  • Remote Desktop app can't connect through VPN or through RDP load balancer

    Using the regular Remote Desktop Client (in the desktop environment) I can connect just fine to remote servers when connected through Cisco VPN or when accessing a server behind a load balancer. When using the Remote Desktop app in the Modern UI, I can't do either of these things. Trying to connect to a remote server that's on a private network fails with: Can't find server, make sure the name and domain are correct and try again And connecting to a server that's behind an RDP load balancer fails with the following error, after accepting credentials: Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote PC again Is there some way to use the Remote Desktop app in these situations, or am I just out of luck?

  • Firefox: Load local html file when opening new tab

    A couple of months ago, I configured Firefox to load a local html file containing my commonly-used links whenever I open a new tab This week I've been trying to find where I set this up. I cannot find this setting anywhere in the Firefox options. Somewhere there is (or was) a dialog box with an item that said something like 'Page to load in new tab'. Where was it? Could Mozilla have removed it in the latest upgrade? I'm not using any extensions but LastPass, so it's not controlled by an extension.

  • Windows 8 will not load color profiles - why?

    I have a Spyder3Express color calibration device. Under Windows 7 the utility that came with it would happily load the custom profile I created with it without any hassles. Under Windows 8 (have just upgraded) there is no visible color shift when it says it has loaded the profile. I have gone into the Windows color management settings and when I select any profile and hit 'Set as Default' nothing happens. They all look the same. So Windows doesn't throw an error, but none of the profiles cause any color shifts at all. I have tried a large number of things, such as changing the global color settings for all user accounts and installing other color management software to see if it will load the profiles. The only way I can get a color shift is if I create a profile using Windows built in utility. Profiles created this way change the appearance of the screen, but any downloaded or created profiles make no difference. I am out of ideas. Please help :)

    I have a large table that I am updating. Is it possible to disable index updates on the destination table until the load is complete? It seems like a waste for it to be constantly updating the index with each commit. I can just drop and recreate the index before and after the load, I just want to know if there is a quick way to configure that in the OLEDB or SQL Server destination. Server is Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition, running SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition with SSIS.

    Every time I try to load viper-mode in Emacs24 using M-x viper-mode, I get error Wrong type argument: symbolp, (quote 3) I have observed it happens when I try to load viper-mode for the after opening Emacs or after I have issued M-x viper-go-away So once I get this error and run the same command again, viper-mode loads successfully. When I use toggle-viper-mode to turn it off, viper-mode goes away successfully. But when I try to turn it back on using toggle-viper-mode again, I get the above stated error. I have to use viper-go-away and then M-x viper-mode twice to get it back working. How can I get rid of this error?

  • VMware Server guest systems are extremely slow with IO load on host (Ubuntu 8.04)

    We are experiencing performance issues with a VMware Server 2.x installation on an Ubuntu 8.04 host. When the host system is generating IO load (for example, copying large files as part of a backup operation), the guests (also Ubuntu 8.04) become extremely unresponsive and slow (simple Apache HTTP requests taking 5 seconds instead of the usual 200ms). We tried optimizing various aspects of the VMs, but the issue remains. Is there a known bug with VMware performance under linux if host IO load is high? Is there a way to fix this? Is this only an issue with Ubuntu systems, or have you seen it on other systems before? Thanks!

  • Google Chrome can't load too many tabs together!

    This is an annoying problem that I face and friends of mine agree to this too. When using a site like Digg I tend to browse the page and open a lot of tabs simultaneously before reading each tab individually. Now what happens is, when there are 4-5 or more tabs loading up, all of them just stop loading.I can still see that annoying circle rotating (which means it is trying to load) but nothing happens. I have to stop the load and then refresh one tab at a time to see these pages. I never faced these problems on firefox or opera. What can the possible reasons for this be and how do I overcome this issue ? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my Chrome Version is 5.0.375.55. PS: I use the internet from behind a proxy server at my college. I wonder if that could cause these problems. My friends in college also face the same problem.

    I'm interesting in monitoring our EC2 instances to ensure we scale up when necessary. Right now we are monitoring idle CPU time as our metric. We aren't measuring disk IO as we are not a very disk intensive application. When running on our own hardware in a datacenter I also usually monitor "load" from the top command. My question is: Does it make sense to monitor "load" on a shared env such as EC2? If so, how do you interpret the results?

  • Troubleshooting a slow database server with no load

    I'm getting ready to soft launch my website and I've run into some problems with what I think is being caused by my MySQL database running on Fedora. All websites run fine, just as I'd expect, but any pages that establish a database connection hang until the connection is established, and then bang, the site loads as it should. Ex. My landing page (http://www.thrusong.com) doesn't make a database connection and loads quickly. User profile pages (http://www.thrusong.com/john) make a database connection and load slowly, even though most of the data comes from memcached and the database currently has no load on it. This problem just came up yesterday when my router died and I began using my Pace 2Wire modem with built-in router. Before, my old router was set to handle everything. My ISP says the settings in the modem are correct. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Pre-load MS Windows right-click menus and Start menu at startup

    Hello brainy people. On my WinXP SP3 laptop (1.4Ghz 1.2GB ram), after I first log in, when I right-click in Windows Explorer and choose New, the submenu can take up to 15 seconds to load, which is a pain in the ass when you want to do a quick easy operation. After the submenu has loaded the first time, subsequent loads perform instantly, obviously as the menu has been cached. My question is: can these right-click menus (and the Start menu, which also takes some time to load the first time) be pre-loaded at Windows startup? Thanks.

    I have a wireless internet connection through BSNL. I have a windows 7 ultimate, and using latest Google chrome. During night time ie from 12:30 am onwards till around 5:30 am, I have the following problem: Only the following webpages load: Google Search Google images and all related to google product pages like you see them on the google home page. Blogspot webpages as supported through Google. Any other site loading gets stuck with the status message:- Waiting for www.thaturl.com .... And it goes on and on. Why does this happen? I checked around googling for this but no solution at all. By the way I tried changing my dns addresses too sometimes from automatically to opendns and then Google public dns. I need some solution which might help me to load other websites also. Thanks in advance.

  • Website ocasionally does not load on first click

    Today I noticed that my website hosted on a virtual server ocasionally does not load on first click. I click on some link, browser starts loading page but nothing loads and does not not appear any error message (like "connection reset by peer etc). Nothing. When I click the same link again, page loads immediately. The same situation on 2 computers in different browsers. It happends not always, maybe on each 20... or 30 click. Sites from other servers load without this problem. Any ideas what can cause this problem?

    We've developing a database driven (70%/30% read/write load) website using C#.NET, IIS and MS SQL Server 2008 to be hosted on Windows 2008. Due to contractual reasons our setup has to be hosted on our own physical/virtual servers instead of a cloud solution at this stage. Could someone outline or link to some best practices that would provide both high availability (priority at the moment) and eventually load balancing for our site. We're probably looking at some sort of 2 SQL server mirrored system and 2 ISS web servers to start with. Thanks in advance.

  • Forward name server for faster load times.

    I have a website hosted in China, which must be hosted there for various reasons. I also cannot change hosting companies for various reasons. It is a website that is accessed worldwide, however it has atrocious ping rates from everywhere but China. This is just an idea, so this may be impossible and/or not make any sense, but here it goes. A friend of mine has used proxies which helped his ping and load times from servers in Korea. Is there any way I can do this with my server? Perhaps a service which forwards my name servers to somewhere with much better global ping rates? Any other ideas which will make pings/load times fester other than this are greatly appreciated as well. Please keep in mind when answering: I cannot change servers I do not have access to configure the server itself.

    I have a Mac, which runs Mac OS X 10.6 or Ubuntu 9.10 or Windows XP (Multiboot). Solution can be for any of the systems, whatever works better. I have two ISPs, one can be accessed via Wi-Fi, one can be accessed via LAN. In Mac OS X I can define the priority, which network to choose first. But what I wish to do is to load-balance with both networks. I don't want to buy extra hardware. I have some unused Wi-Fi routers if this would help. This was because a couple of "widgets" on my website needed the Google Ajax API loader so I chose to be consistent and used the AJAX APIs to load Google Maps as well: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/jsapi?key=abcdef"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> google.load("maps", "2", {"other_params": "sensor=true"}); </script> Now that I have finally decided to use Google Maps API v3, this page does not list API v3 in the available version list. None of the examples on API v3 documentation show the use of AJAX APIs as well. Is is possible (and supported) to load Google Maps API v3 via AJAX API loader?

    Late last week I upgraded CC.NET locally and on the build server. The build server is still fine, but locally I am now getting the following error: Exception Details: Exortech.NetReflector.NetReflectorTypeLoadException: Unable to load types from assembly System.ServiceModel, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089: Failed to load 1 of the 3612 types defined in the assembly. I'm afraid this started after a batch of Windows updates this morning. I had another two updates that won't run, 979909 and 982168 (I had an update that wouldn't run last month).     I'm trying to compile a Flex application in Ant (no problems here, I can do it fine). When I try to publish the contents of the project to a Windows network drive (known as "Z:\" on my system), I get the following LAME exception thrown by Java/Ant: BUILD FAILED C:\workspace\bkeller\build.xml:42: Failed to copy C:\workspace\bkeller\web\assets\text\biography.html to Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html due to java.io.FileNotFoundException Z:\web\bkeller\assets\text\biography.html (The system cannot find the file specified) Which kind of sucks. I can't find any way to get rid of this problem and it's pretty crucial to my project that I get this working. I know for sure that I have read/write/execute permissions on the network drive, I can create/edit/delete files on the drive just fine through Windows explorer. Drive Z is a network mount to virtualbox, allowing me to get access to my host OS, Ubuntu. I've double checked that it has write permissions. Any ideas?

BUILD FAILED (total time: 1 second) And then in the command prompt when I run asant run in the appropriate directory, I get: C:\Users\Derek\Documents\NetBeansProjects\EJBProject\nbproject\build-impl.xml:19: Class org.apache.tools.ant.taskdefs.condition.Not doesn't support the nested "antversion" element. Do you know why this would be? Why won't netbeans deploy my application so I can run and test it?
