• How to determine where a Mailitem is being opened from in Outlook 2007 using VSTO 2005 SE

  I have an Outlook 2007 Add-in in VSTO 2005 SE that allows users to save e-mails into our document management system. From within our system users are able to open e-mails they have previously saved. However, when doing so I need to try and prevent them from saving them again. I am trying to figure out how to determine if the Mailitem being opened is coming from the Outlook e-mail client or from an external source. I know that normally the EntryId Property of the Mailitem is null or empty string when a Mailitem has not been previously saved in Outlook, however, it seems like when a Mailitem is being opened from within our system the EntryID is not null.

• Block all other input to an application and control it from a wrapper in Java

  I have a windows application which has a complex GUI that I would like to hide from users. In order to do this, I would like to create a wrapper with an extremely simple interface that overlays this application and automates a number of actions when a user clicks a single button on the wrapper. (I hope "wrapper" is the proper term.) Is it possible to use Java to block input to the underlying application so that users cannot inadvertently mess up the automation? How would I go about this? Also, how can I automate key presses and clicks to the application without hijacking the mouse? Is this possible in Java? I have looked at java.awt.Robot, but it appears to hijack the mouse. I have also looked at AutoIT, but it too hijacks the mouse and does not integrate with Java. Neither of these options seem powerful enough for what I need, but I do not know how else to proceed.

• how do i set up a load balanced Rails web server using mongrel, lighttpd and iis on windows 2003

  I understand that this is not the perfect environment for doing this but please stick with me and help if you can... The set up I want to achieve is to have my rails application running on a windows 2003 server, using a pack of mongrels with lighttpd acting as the load balancer and IIS in front of it all passing client requests to lighttpd. first of all i've followed these instructions: deploying to iis on windows And I've managed to get the application to run, BUT if the client clicks on a link button the app bombs out with a 500 server error. If I just run against one of the mongrel servers, the the app behaves ok, so I think its lightpd. Its almost as if the lighttpd gets confused with multiple GET requests (i.e. multiple clicks) and bombs out. Any help on why i'm getting 500 errors would be helpful, thanks.

  I'm writing code like: class Game { int getMouseX() { return inputManager.getMouseX() ; } } ; I remember seeing code like this and hating it. One function passes off to another? What is this "pattern" (or, possibly, anti-pattern) called? I don't like it! On the other hand, it saves exposing the InputManager to the user of the class... would that be a better choice? Or should Game simply not contain InputManager?   I am on the latest version of VMWare Workstation. In my VMWareTools I have configrued an individual script file (start.bat) to be started when the (guest) OS is booted. Unfortuantely it does not run when starting the guest system as intended. When pressing "run now" it works Running the script from CMD works as well I have changed the service (VMWareTools service) to run under different users - no success All Users (of the service) have had Administrator privileges I have no idea what is going wrong. Maybe someone is having an idea ....

• Vim: multi-file editing - having different makes in different splits

  I'm a recent vim convert (from fancy IDEs like eclipse.) I love the :make command in vim and use it extensively; however I also like to edit multiple projects (with separate makefiles.) So usually to edit more than one project I will do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp [suspend signal] pushd ../project2 vim project2.cpp and now I can switch between the two projects with ctrl+z i.e. suspend signal, and fg. When this becomes an issue is when I want to open one project in the context of another so I can do copy/pasting. So if instead in the above I do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp :vsp ../project2/project2.cpp I can edit both concurrently in the same vim process, however I can't effectively build one or the other with the :make command, it will only build project 1. Does anyone have some kind of scheme that gives them the best of both worlds: being able to edit concurrently while still being able to build multiple projects with the :make command all from the same vim process?

• How do I implement .net plugins without using AppDomains?

  Problem statement: Implement a plug-in system that allows the associated assemblies to be overwritten (avoid file locking). In .Net, specific assemblies may not be unloaded, only entire AppDomains may be unloaded. I'm posting this because when I was trying to solve the problem, every solution made reference to using multiple AppDomains. Multiple AppDomains are very hard to implement correctly, even when architected at the start of a project. Also, AppDomains didn't work for me because I needed to transfer Type across domains as a setting for Speech Server worfklow's InvokeWorkflow activity. Unfortunately, sending a type across domains causes the assembly to be injected into the local AppDomain. Also, this is relevant to IIS. IIS has a Shadow Copy setting that allows an executing assembly to be overwritten while its loaded into memory. The problem is that (at least under XP, didnt test on production 2003 servers) when you programmatically load an assembly, the shadow copy doesnt work (because you are loading the DLL, not IIS).

  Hi, I am building an app on top of Google Reader. Since users have to enter their Google Account data, I'd like to use this data to assign personal settings to each user. However, if I do so and a user would change his email adress or password(for the whole Google Account), I wouldn't be able to identify him anymore. Thus, I need to know if there's a Google Account ID or something that I can use to identify users regardless of an email adress or password. Thanks for your help!

• How to find what element mouse is over in Prototype

  I have a situation where an element is shown using ajax. I have attached mouseenter and mouseleave events to it to show a menu connected to the element using prototype. This works fine, but the problem I am having is that if a user has his/her mouse in the place where the element is shown before it is shown, the mouseenter does not get triggered and the attached menu does not get shown. I already have an afterFinish function that is called after a SlideDown effect, so I was thinking I could put another function in there to check if the users mouse is over the element or not. How would I go about checking what element the users mouse is over in prototype?

• Xcodebuild failing to pick up environment values from project file?

  I'm using Xcode 3.2.6, MacOSX. I have a globally visible environment setting: ICU_SRC=~/Documents/icu/source This really is an environment setting, it's set at login time. When I open up Terminal, it's there. In my project, under Header Search Paths I've added this: $(ICU_SRC)/i18n $(ICU_SRC)/common These expand correctly when I compile inside the IDE. When I look at the build results, I see this: -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/i18n -I/Users/eric.grunin/Documents/icu/source/common When I build from the command line, however, it fails. What I see is this: -I/i18n -I/common Here's the command I'm using to compile: /usr/bin/env -i xcodebuild -project my_project.xcodeproj -target "my_program" -configuration Release -sdk macosx10.6 build What am I doing wrong? • How do I make the Drupal-Core Forum display only to members, and ask for login details otherwise

  I'm trying to create a website, that has a menu based on Primary Links on the top of the site. The one menu item is for a 'Members Forum'. I want this menu item visible to all users (Anonymous/Authorized), but if an Anonymous user clicks on the item, instead of displaying "Access Denied", I'd prefer to show a custom message "such as please login to access the forum". If an Authorized user clicks it, obviously I want them to go straight to the page. In the Forum module, I've set up a container for the forum that is only viewable for Authorized users, so that when an Anonymous user clicks the menu item, they get the Access Denied error. • git: rename remote branch

  I have the branch master which tracks the remote branch origin/master. I want to rename them to "master-old" both locally and remote. Is that possible? For other users who tracked origin/master (and who updated their local master branch always just via 'git pull'), what whould happen after I renamed the renamed the remote branch. Would their 'git pull' still work or would it throw an error that it coudln't find origin/master anymore? Then, further on, I want to create a new master branch (both locally and remote). Again, after I did this, what would happen now if the other users do the 'git pull' now? I guess all this would result in a lot of trouble. Is there a clean way to get what I want? Or should I just leave master as it is and create a new branch master-new and just work there further on?

• Downloading HTTP URLs asynchronously in C++

  What's a good way to download HTTP URLs (e.g. such as http://0.0.0.0/foo.htm ) in C++ on Linux ? I strongly prefer something asynchronous. My program will have an event loop that repeatedly initiates multiple (very small) downloads and acts on them when they finish (either by polling or being notified somehow). I would rather not have to spawn multiple threads/processes to accomplish this. That shouldn't be necessary. Should I look into libraries like libcurl? I suppose I could implement it manually with non-blocking TCP sockets and select() calls, but that would likely be less convenient.

• Have a doubt on uritemplates in WCF Services

  I have a webservice with following operation contract and my service is hosted at //localhost:9002/Service.svc/ (I did not put http: before the localhost, as new user can post only one hyperlink) [OperationContract] [WebGet ( UriTemplate = "/Files/{Filepath}" ) ] Stream DownloadFile(string Filepath); This webservice would let users download file, if the proper filepath is provided (assuming, i somehow findout proper filepath). Now, I can access this service from a browser by typing, //localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/(Filepath} If {filepath} is some simple string, its not a problem, but i want to send the location of the file. Lets us say users want to download file "C:\Test.mp3" on the server. But how can I pass "C:\Test.mp3" as {Filepath}. I get an error when i type http://localhost:9002/Service.svc/Files/C:\Test.mp3 in the browser. I am new to webservices and find that quickest way to clear doubts is in this community.

But if i have to distribute it through apple store, how should I make the users of this Iphone Application first create an account with my website. There could be a few options like : 1) Ask the user to create an account when he/she tries to run the application on iphone. 2) Provide a 'Sign-Up' page in the Iphone application itself. • Usability: Save changes using "Apply" button or after every single change?

  I am interested in hearing opinions and experiences of fellow developers on topic of designing user interface, usability AND maintainability-wise. Common approach is to allow users to tweak options and after form gets "dirty", enable "Apply" button, and user has possibility to back out by pressing cancel. This is most common approach on Windows platform (I believe MS usability guidelines say to do so as well). Another way is to apply changes after every single change has been made to options. Example, user checks some checkbox, and change is applied. User changes value of some text box, and change is applied after box looses focus, etc. You get the point. This approach is most common on Mac OSX. Regardless of my personal opinion (which is that Apple is better at usability, but software I usually write targets Windows users), what do you people think?
