  • Retrieving the type of a Collection

    So I have something like the following in Java: private List<SomeType>variable; // ....variable is instantiated as so ... variable = new ArrayList<SomeType>(); // there's also a getter public List<SomeType> getVariable() { /* code */ } What I would like to be able to do is figure out that variable is a collection of SomeType programmatically. I read here that I can determine that from the method getVariable() but is there any way to tell directly from variable? I have been able to retrieve SomeType from the getter method based on the information in the link. I have also been successful in retrieving all the fields of the surrounding class via SurroundingClass.getClass().getDeclaredFields() but this doesn't tell me that it is List<SomeType>.

    I need to take all the values in an excel file to a temporary/physical table in SQL Server 2005. I don't need the Import export method. I tried the following linked server method: SELECT * INTO db1.dbo.table1 FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0', 'Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};DBQ=c:\renju.xls', 'SELECT * FROM [sheet1$]') But it is returing an error as: OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Could not find installable ISAM.". I'm using Excel 2003, and I've already added the linked server for "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0."

    I have a scenario. (Windows Forms, C#, .NET) There is a main form which hosts some user control. The user control does some heavy data operation, such that if I directly call the Usercontrol_Load method the UI become nonresponsive for the duration for load method execution. To overcome this I load data on different thread (trying to change existing code as little as I can) I used a background worker thread which will be loading the data and when done will notify the application that it has done its work. Now came a real problem. All the UI (main form and its child usercontrols) was created on the primary main thread. In the LOAD method of the usercontrol I'm fetching data based on the values of some control (like textbox) on userControl. The pseudocode would look like this: //CODE 1 UserContrl1_LOadDataMethod() { if(textbox1.text=="MyName") <<======this gives exception { //Load data corresponding to "MyName". //Populate a globale variable List<string> which will be binded to grid at some later stage. } } The Exception it gave was Cross-thread operation not valid: Control accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on. To know more about this I did some googling and a suggestion came up like using the following code //CODE 2 UserContrl1_LOadDataMethod() { if(InvokeRequired) // Line #1 { this.Invoke(new MethodInvoker(UserContrl1_LOadDataMethod)); return; } if(textbox1.text=="MyName") //<<======Now it wont give exception** { //Load data correspondin to "MyName" //Populate a globale variable List<string> which will be binded to grid at some later stage } } BUT BUT BUT... it seems I'm back to square one. The Application again become nonresponsive. It seems to be due to the execution of line #1 if condition. The loading task is again done by the parent thread and not the third that I spawned. I don't know whether I perceived this right or wrong. I'm new to threading. How do I resolve this and also what is the effect of execution of Line#1 if block? The situation is this: I want to load data into a global variable based on the value of a control. I don't want to change the value of a control from the child thread. I'm not going to do it ever from a child thread. So only accessing the value so that the corresponding data can be fetched from the database.

  • mvc 2.0 updatemodel and my ID Column

    Hello, I have created a create view within my MVC 2.0 Application and by default it included a field for the integer ID Column. This is definitely a field i do not need. If i remove the field and use updatemodel when trying to create the object in code, will something break because it doesnt see my ID column data being passed in, even though it is auto increment? Also, i noticed that in the NerdDinner example, updatemodel was used and after that the repository.save method was called. I thought that updatemodel would save the object to the database..why then call the .save method afterwards? Or have i missed something? Any help with this would be appreciated. Cheers

    I'm trying to build a custom clock view in Android. See image http://twitpic.com/1devk7 So far to draw the time and hour markers I have been using the Canvas.rotate method to get the desired effect. However, notice that it is difficult to interpret the numbers in the lower half of the clock (e.g. 6 or 9?) because of the angle in which they are drawn. When using drawText, is it possible to draw the text at 45/90/180 degrees so that all text appears upright when my onDraw method has finished?

  • How do I pass a reference type to Control.Invoke / display a form centered on the main form

    I'm on a thread other than the UI thread and need to display a modal form that's centered on the application's main form. What I usually do is use the width and height of the main form and the modal form to calculate the location, then use the PointToScreen method of the main form to get the location of the modal form. Since I'm on another thread I need to use Control.Invoke to call this method. I just can't figure out how to pass a parameter of type Point to Control.Invoke (params object[]). Value types and String works fine. Or, if someone can find a better way to display a form centered on the main form regardless of thread, that would be great. MessageBox seems to be able to do this (although not modally).

    I have a DataSet that I have added to my project where I can Insert and Add records using the Add Query function in Visual Studio 2010, however I want to add transactions to this, I have found a few examples but cannot seem to find one that works with these. I know I need to use the SQLClient.SQLTransaction Class somehow. I used the Add New Data Source Wizard and added the Tables/View/Functions I need, I just need an example using this process such as How to get the DataConnection my DataSet has used. Assuming all options have been set in the wizard and I am only using the pre-defined adapters and options asked for in this wizard, how to I add the Transaction logic to my Database. For example I have a DataSet called ProductDataSet with the XSD created for this, I have then added my Stock table as a Datasource and Added an AddStock method with a wizard, this also if a new item calls an AddItem method, if either of these fails I want to rollback the AddItem and AddStock in this case.

    I'm looking for an elegant pattern to solve this problem: I have several user roles in my system, and for many of my controller actions, I need to deal with slightly different data. For example, take /Users/Edit/1 This allows a Moderator to edit a users email address, but Administrators to edit a user's email address and password. I'd like a design for separating the two different bits of action code for the GET and the POST. Solutions I've come up with so far are: Switch inside each method, however this doesn't really help when i want different model arguments on the POST :( Custom controller factory which chooses a UsersController_ForModerators and UsersController_ForAdmins instead of just UsersController from the controller name and current user role Custom action invoker which choose the Edit_ForModerators method in a similar way to above Have an IUsersController and register a different implementation of it in my IoC container as a named instance based on Role Build an implementation of the controller at runtime using Castle DynamicProxy and manipulate the methods to those from role-based implementations Im preferring the named IoC instance route atm as it means all my urls/routing will work seamlessly. Ideas? Suggestions?

  • How to store images without taking up huge amounts of RAM

    I'm working on a silverlight project where users get to create their own Collages. The problem When loading a bunch of images by using the BitmapImage class, Silverlight hogs up huge unreasonable amounts of RAM. 150 pictures where single ones fill up at most 4,5mb takes up about 1,6GB of RAM--thus ending up throwing memory exceptions. I'm loading them through streams, since the user selects their own photos. What I'm looking for A class, method or some process to eliminate the huge amount of RAM being sucked up. I've tried using a WriteableBitmap to render the images into, but I find this method forces me to reinvent the wheel when it comes to drag/drop and other things I want users to be able to do with the images.

  • ASP.net MVC 2.0 using the same form for adding and editing.

    I would like to use the same view for editing a blog post and adding a blog post. However, I'm having an issue with the ID. When adding a blog post, I have no need for an ID value to be posted. When model binding binds the form values to the BlogPost object in the controller, it will auto-generate the ID in entity framework entity. When I am editing a blog post I DO need a hidden form field to store the ID in so that it accompanies the next form post. Here is the view I have right now. <% using (Html.BeginForm("CommitEditBlogPost", "Admin")) { %> <% if (Model != null) { %> <%: Html.HiddenFor(x => x.Id)%> <% } %> Title:<br /> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.Title, new { Style = "Width: 90%;" })%> <br /> <br /> Summary:<br /> <%: Html.TextAreaFor(x => x.Summary, new { Style = "Width: 90%; Height: 50px;" }) %> <br /> <br /> Body:<br /> <%: Html.TextAreaFor(x => x.Body, new { Style = "Height: 250px; Width: 90%;" })%> <br /> <br /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> <% } %> Right now checking if the model is coming in NULL is a great way to know if I'm editing a blog post or adding one, because when I'm adding one it will be null as it hasn't been created yet. The problem comes in when there is an error and the entity is invalid. When the controller renders the form after an invalid model the Model != null evaluates to false, even though we are editing a post and there is clearly a model. If I render the hidden input field for ID when adding a post, I get an error stating that the ID can't be null. Any help is appreciated. EDIT: I went with OJ's answer for this question, however I discovered something that made me feel silly and I wanted to share it just in case anyone was having a similar issue. The page the adds/edits blogs does not even need a hidden field for id, ever. The reason is because when I go to add a blog I do a GET to this relative URL BlogProject/Admin/AddBlogPost This URL does not contain an ID and the action method just renders the page. The page does a POST to the same URL when adding the blog post. The incoming BlogPost entity has a null Id and is generated by EF during save changes. The same thing happens when I edit blog posts. The URL is BlogProject/Admin/EditBlogPost/{Id} This URL contains the id of the blog post and since the page is posting back to the exact same URL the id goes with the POST to the action method that executes the edit. The only problem I encountered with this is that the action methods cannot have identical signatures. [HttpGet] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id) { } [HttpPost] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id) { } The compiler will yell at you if you try to use these two methods above. It is far too convenient that the Id will be posted back when doing a Html.BeginForm() with no arguments for action or controller. So rather than change the name of the POST method I just modified the arguments to include a FormCollection. Like this: [HttpPost] public ViewResult EditBlogPost(int Id, FormCollection formCollection) { // You can then use formCollection as the IValueProvider for UpdateModel() // and TryUpdateModel() if you wish. I mean, you might as well use the // argument since you're taking it. } The formCollection variable is filled via model binding with the same content that Request.Form would be by default. You don't have to use this collection for UpdateModel() or TryUpdateModel() but I did just so I didn't feel like that collection was pointless since it really was just to make the method signature different from its GET counterpart. Any ideas what I could have done wrong here? EDIT: I also tried the EntityFunctions class mentioned here, but that did not work as well. What are your favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings? Mine are motivated by the fact that I'm a touch-typist. Mouse, function keys, arrow keys, Home, End -- bleh. These are commands I do all day every day, so I've remapped them to sequences I can execute without moving my hands from the home row. The command that is remapped in Tools = Customize = [Keyboard] is shown in parentheses. I'm 100% positive that there are better remappings than these, so please post yours! VS will display a list of all the open windows. You can select from the list by typing the file name; the matching file will be selected as you type. Pause for a second and resume typing, and the matching process starts over, so you can select a different file. Nice, VS Team. The key takes you to the tab for the selected file.
