• WPF Datagrid zoom issue

  I'm working with the WPF DataGrid from the WPFToolkit and I'm having issues with trying to zoom the entire datagrid. My initial thought was that it was going to be really easy and I would just apply a scale transform to the grid and animate the ScaleX, ScaleY properties when the used clicked a button. This did not work however because the scrollbar was zoomed in making it larger. I need fixed headers and fixed columns on the datagrid so I can't simple use a scrollviewer outside of the datagrid to handle the scrolling. The second thing I tried was to just scale the font size in the grid, but this failed because on shrinking the font size the columns stay at the original width and do not shrink. Finally I thought I had it working by using the below code which goes into the view tree for the datagrid and adds a scale transform to the Scroll Content Presenter. (Also not shown in this code, I apply a transform to the visual tree item for the headers in the same manner so that it scales as well). I thought this was working great until I tested out the horizontal scrolling after zooming. (Vertical scrolling works perfectly.) Before zooming at all the horizontal scrolling is fine, but after zooming, when I scroll horzonitally the display freaks out. It is hard to tell exactly what it is doing, but it sort of looks like the content that is scrolling off the left of the screen is "folding over" and coming back in on the left. Maybe it is just all smashing up on the left side. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this working, hopefully without throwing out my whole datagrid that is already working quite well otherwise. I'm not really a perl user beyond enjoying it for massive directory-recursive find/replace operations within text files, so I haven't much of an idea what the permissions here are supposed to look like, and I'm not really sure how to go about determining how macports has gone and installed perl this way when it's otherwise worked without failure for years now. Does anyone have any recommendations for the sanest path towards rectifying this issue? Also, is there any interesting reason as to why the macports default for the perl5 port installs 5.12.4, and not 5.16.0, which has to be explicitly installed via the perl5.16 port? Thanks again!

• Launching mysql server: same permissions for root and for user

  Hi folks, have been directed here from stackoverflow here, am reposting the question and adding my.cnf at the end of a post. so far in my 10+ years experience with linux, all the permission problems I've ever encountered, have been successfully solved with chmod -R 777 /path/where/the/problem/has/occured (every lie has a grain of truth in it :) This time the trick doesn't work, so I'm turning to you for help. I'm compiling mysql server from scratch with zc.buildout (www . buildout . org). I do launch it by executing /home/toinbis/.../parts/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe, this works. The thing is that i'll be launching this from within supervisor (supervisord . org) script, and when used on the deployment server, it'll need it to be launched with root permissions(so that nginx server, launched with the same script, would have access to 80 port). The problem is that sudo /home/toinbis/.../parts/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe, fails, generating the error, posted bellow, in mysql error log (apache and nginx works as expected). http://lists.mysql.com/mysql/216045 suggests, that "there are two errors: A missing table and a file system that mysqld doesn't have access to". Mysqldatadir and all the mysql server binary files has 777 permissions, talbe mysql.plugin does exist and has 777 permissions (why Can't open the mysql.plugin table?), "sudo touch mysql_datadir/tmp/file" does create file (why Can't create/write to file /home/toinbis/.../runtime/mysql_datadir/tmp/ib4e9Huz?). chgrp -R mysql mysql_datadir and adding "root, toinbis, mysql" users to mysql group ( cat /etc/group | grep mysql outputs mysql:x:124:root,toinbis,mysql) has no effect - when i launch it as a casual user, it starts, when as a root - it fails. Does mysql server, even started as root, tries to operate as other, let's say, 'mysql' user? but even in that case, adding mysql user to mysql group and making all the mysql_datadirs files belong to mysql group should make things work smoothly. • Can I create a custom roleprovider through a WCF service?

  I have a web application that accesses a database through a wcf service. The idea is to abstract the data from the web application using the wcf service. All that works fine but I am also using the built in roleprovider using the SqlRoleManager which does access the aspnetdb database directly. I would like to abstract the roleprovider by creating a custom roleprovider in a wcf service and then accessing it through the wcf service. I have created the custom role provider and it works fine but now I need to place it in a wcf service. So before I jump headlong into trying to get this to work through the WCF service, I created a second class in the web application that accessed the roleprovider class and changed my web config roleprovider parameters to use that class. So my roleprovider class is called, "UcfCstRoleProvider" and my web.config looks like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="UcfCstRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.UcfCstRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> My class starts like this: public class UcfCstRoleProvider : RoleProvider { private readonly WindowsTokenRoleProvider _roleProxy = new WindowsTokenRoleProvider(); public override string ApplicationName { get { return _roleProxy.ApplicationName; } set { _roleProxy.ApplicationName = value; } } As I said, this works fine. So the second class is called BlRoleProvider that has identical properties and parameters as the roleprovide but does not implement RoleProvider. I changed the web.config to point to this class like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="BlRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.BlRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> But I get this error. "Provider must implement the class 'System.Web.Security.RoleProvider'." I hope I have explained well enough to show what I am trying to do. If I can get the roleprovider to work through another class in the same application, I am sure it will work through the WCF service but how do I get past this error? Or maybe I took a wrong turn and there is a better way to do what I want to do??

  One of my most favorite websites is that of the Oxford Hotel in Romania. I like the simplicity of the site and how it flows. I am trying to create a similar scrolling effect using jquery and I've been somewhat successful to a point. My trouble is with css... I am not a wizard in that department. Anyway,...my questions! 1. How can I first make sure that the ".box" class will be in the center of the page when the corresponding link is clicked? Right now it positions itself on the left. 2. Then, how can I tweak this code so that the user only can see the width of the screen and not the browser scroller/the rest of my ".box" divs?   I'm trying, as an exhibition, to use a DoubleAnimation on the ScaleX and ScaleY properties of a ScaleTransform. I have a rectangle (144x144) which I want to make rectangular over five seconds. Also, I enabled the trace on the driver, which gives you some nice autotrace (ala Oracle) info as long as the query succeeds. But in this case, the driver blows a NoHostAvailableException and no ExecutionInfo is available, so tracing has not provided any benefit in this case. I also find it interesting that this does not seem to be recorded as a timeout (my JMX consoles tell me no timeouts have occurred). So, I am left not understanding WHERE the failure is actually occurring. I am left with the idea that it is the driver that is having a problem, but I don't know how to debug it (and I would really like to). I have read several posts from folks that state that query'g for resultSets 10000 rows is probably not a good idea, and I am willing to accept this, but I would like to understand what is causing the exception and where the exception is happening. FWIW, I also tried bumping the timeout properties in the cassandra.yaml, but this made no difference whatsoever. I welcome any suggestions, anecdotes, insults, or monetary contributions for my registration in the house of moron-developers. Regards!!

  I'm trying to get NHProf reports on my integration tests as a report in TeamCity I'm not sure how to get this set up correctly and my first attempts are unsuccessful. Let me know if there is any more information that would be helpful... The mail system recieves a xml with elements defined in xsd file and we need to drop this elements info to wsdlc generated classes. With this objects we can use this common bean. Is not possible to redirect the mail request to the webservice. We've looking for the code to do this with WL9.2 resources but we don't found anything. At the moment we've tried to use JAXB for this unmarshalling: JAXBContext c = JAXBContext.newInstance(new Class[]{WasteDCSType.class}); Unmarshaller u = c.createUnmarshaller(); WasteDCSType w = u.unmarshal(waste, WasteDCSType.class).getValue(); waste variable is an DOM Element object. It isn't the root element 'cause the root isn't included in XSD First we needed to add no-arg constructor in some autogenerated classes. No problem, we solved this and finally we unmarshalled the xml without error Exceptions. But we had problems with the attributes. The unmarshalling didn't set attributes; none of them in any class, not simple attributes, not large or short enumeration attributes. No problem with xml elements of any type. We can't create the unmarshaller from "context string" (the package name) 'cause not ObjectFactory has been create by wsldc. If we set the schema no element descriptions are founded and unmarshall crashes. • PHP framework question

  I'm currently working on a browser-based MMO and have chosen the LAMP stack because of the extremely low cost to start with in production (versus Windows + IIS + ASP.NET/C# + SQL Server, even though I have MSDN Universal). However I will need a PHP framework for this as it's no easy task. I am not restricted by anything other than the ability to run on Linux, as I will use a dedicated cloud hosting solution (and a VMWare image for development) and can configure it as needed. In no specific order: It has to be easily scalable; this is crucial. If the game becomes a steady success it will eventually outgrow the server beyond what the host provides and would have to be moved to several load-balanced servers. It is crucial that this can be done with minimum effort. I do know this might require following strict conventions, so if you know of any for your suggested framework please explain what would be needed. It has to provide modules for all the core tasks: authentication, ACL, database access, MVC, and so on. One or two missing modules are fine, as long as they can easily be written and integrated. It should support internationalization. I think there is no excuse for any web framework not to provide means of translating the application and switching between languages without a lot of effort from the programmer. Must have very good community support and preferably commercial support as well. Yes, I do know QCodo/QCubed is so nice, but it is not mature enough for this task. Smooth AJAX support is required. Whether the framework comes with AJAX-capable widgets or has an easy way of adding AJAX is not relevant, as long as AJAX is easily doable. I plan to use jQuery + Dojo or one of them alone - not exactly sure. Auto-magically doing stuff when it improves readability and relieves a lot of effort would be especially nice if it is generally reliable and does not interfere with other requirements. This seems to be the case of CakePHP. I have read a lot of comparisons and I know it's a really hot debate. The general answer is "try and see for yourself what suits you". However, I can't say it is easy for this task and I'm calling for your experience with building applications with similar requirements. So far I'm tied up between Zend and CakePHP by the general criteria, however, all well-known frameworks offer the same functionality in some way or another with different approaches each with it's own advantages and disadvantages. Edits: I am kinda new to MVC, however, I am willing to learn it and I don't care if a framework is easier for those new to MVC. I have lots of time to learn MVC and any other architectures (or whatever they're called) you recommend. I will use Zend as a utility "framework", even though it's just a collection of libraries (some good ones though, as I have been told). Current PHP contenders are: CakePHP, Kohana, Zend alone.

• "Wrapping" a BindingList<T> propertry with a List<T> property for serialization.

  I'm writing an app that allows users search and browse catalogs of widgets. My WidgetCatalog class is serialized and deserialized to and from XML files using DataContractSerializer. My app is working now but I think I can make the code a lot more efficient if I started taking advantage of data binding rather then doing everything manually. Here's a stripped down version of my current WidgetCatalog class. [DataContract(Name = "WidgetCatalog")] class WidgetCatalog { [DataContract(Name = "Name")] public string Name { get; set; } [DataContract(Name = "Widgets")] public List<Widget> Widgets { get; set; } } I had to write a lot of extra code to keep my UI in sync when widgets are added or removed from a catalog, or their internal properties change. I'm pretty inexperienced with data-binding, but I think I want a BindingList<Widget> rather than a plain old List<Widget>. Is this right? In the past when I had similar needs I found that BindingList<T> does not serialize very well. Or at least the Event Handers between the items and the list are not serialized. I was using XmlSerializer though, and DataContractSerializer may work better. So I'm thinking of doing something like the code below. • Calling "Base-Getter" in Overriding Getter of Property

I now use the "Child" class by instantiating it, assigning a value (let's say 4) to its VirtualProperty and then reading the property again. Child c = new Child(); c.VirtualProperty = 4; Console.Out.WriteLine("Child.VirtualProperty: " + c.VirtualProperty); When I run this, I obviously get an ApplicationException saying "Dummy Ex". But if I set a breakpoint on the line if(base.VirtualProperty > 0) in Child and check the value of base.VirtualProperty (by hovering the mouse over it) before the exception can be thrown (I assume(d)), I already get the Exception. From this I convey that the statement base.VirtualProperty in the "Child-Getter calls itself"; kind of. What I would like to achieve is the same behavior I get when I change the definition of parentVirutalInt (in Parent) to protected and use base.parentVirtualInt in the Getter of Child instead of base.VirtualProperty. And I don't yet see why this is not working. Can anybody shed some light on this? I feel that overridden properties behave differently than overridden methods? By the way: I am doing something very similar with subclassing a class I do not have any control over (this is the main reason why my "workaround" is not an option). Kind regards

• Problem with socket communication between C# and Flex

  Hi all, I am implementing a simulated b/s stock data system. I am using flex and c# for client and server sides. I found flash has a security policy and I handled the policy-file-request in my server code. But seems it doesn't work, because the code jumped out at "socket.Receive(b)" after connection. I've tried sending message on client in the connection handler, in that case the server can receive correct message. But the auto-generated "policy-file-request" can never be received, and the client can get no data sending from server. • $.noConflict() not working with mootools slide show. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem.   I want to hide columns in asp.net in GridView then access the values in GridViewSelectIndexChanged using vb.net. I am using hidden fields in the GridView. • Qwt plot not working , simple plot curve not appeat

  I followed the example of simple plot in qwt examples to plot a curve. The axis and the graph appear in the Qt main window user interface but the curve not. I assigned values to fit the curve but the curve not appear. Any suggestions and help how to solve the problem? • OSGI classcast exception on felix

  Hi, i'm fairly new to osgi and am trying to get a functional proof of concept together. The setup is that my common api is created in a bundle creatively named common-api.jar with no bundle activator, but it exports all it's interfaces. the one of interest in this situation is DatabaseService.java. I then have a Second bundle called systemx-database-service. That implements the database service interface. this works fine as in the activator of the implementation bundle i test the connection to the database and select some arbitraty values. I also register the service i want to be available to the other bundle's like so: context.registerService(DatabaseService.class.getName(), new SystemDatabaseServiceImpl(context), new Properties()); The basic idea being when you look for a service reference for a Database service you'll get back the SystemDatabaseService implementation. When i do a inspect service the output it this: -> inspect s c 69 System Database Service (69) provides services: ---------------------------------------------- objectClass = za.co.xxx.xxx.common.api.DatabaseService service.id = 39 which would lead me to believe that if i do this in a test bundle: context.getService(context.getServiceReference(DatabaseService.class)); i should get back an instance of DatabaseService.class, but alas no such luck. it simply seems like it cannot find the service. stick with me here my story gets stranger. figuring there is no where to go but up i wrote this monstrosity: for (Bundle bundle : bundles) { if (bundle.getSymbolicName().equals("za.co.xxx.xxx.database-service")) { ServiceReference[] registeredServices = bundle.getRegisteredServices(); for (ServiceReference ref : registeredServices) { DatabaseService service = (DatabaseService) context.getService(ref); // use service here. } } } } now i can actually see the service reference, but i get this error java.lang.ClassCastException: za.co.xxx.xxx.database.service.impl.SystemDatabaseServiceImpl cannot be cast to za.co.xxx.xx.common.api.DatabaseService which is crazy since the implementation clearly implements the interface! Any help would be appreciated. Please keep in mind i'm very new at the osgi way of thinking so my whole approach here might be flawed. oh. if anyone wants the manifests i can post them. and i'm using the maven-bnd-plugin to build and executing on felix. thanks Nico
