  • Java interface design

    - by Nayn
    Hi, I had an interface initially as below. public interface testMe { public Set<String> doSomething(); } public class A implements testMe { public Set<String> doSomething() { return // Set<String> } } I had similar classes implementing testMe. Now I have to add one more class which returns Set<Some Object> public class X implements testMe() { public Set<Some OBject> doSomething() { } } How could i add this mehtod in the interface without breaking existing classes? Thanks Nayn

  • C++ Passing `this` into method by reference

    - by David
    I have a class constructor that expects a reference to another class object to be passed in as an argument. I understand that references are preferable to pointers when no pointer arithmetic will be performed or when a null value will not exist. This is the header declaration of the constructor: class MixerLine { private: MIXERLINE _mixerLine; public: MixerLine(const MixerDevice& const parentMixer, DWORD destinationIndex); ~MixerLine(); } This is the code that calls the constructor (MixerDevice.cpp): void MixerDevice::enumerateLines() { DWORD numLines = getDestinationCount(); for(DWORD i=0;i<numLines;i++) { MixerLine mixerLine( this, i ); // other code here removed } } Compilation of MixerDevice.cpp fails with this error: Error 3 error C2664: 'MixerLine::MixerLine(const MixerDevice &,DWORD)' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'MixerDevice *const ' to 'const MixerDevice &' But I thought pointer values could be assigned to pointers, e.g. Foo* foo = new Foo(); Foo& bar = foo;

  • Override .Net Resource file in Calling Application

    - by Blatfrig
    I have an asp.net 2.0 web application that is calling class library. A fairly common scenario to be sure. The class library is making use of a number of resource files and a ResourceManager object to set localised strings. This works absolutely fine in most circumstances based on the user's browser settings. However there are some circumstances under which I wish to overrride the resource string in the class library from within the web application. Is this possible? if so how?

  • customise jQuery totemticker plugin

    - by Don
    I'm using the totemticker jQuery plugin, but need to be able to stop it programatically. It doesn't seem to provide this feature, so I had a look at the source code to see if I could add it myself. It seems that all I need to do is figure out how to call base.stop_interval() However, I can't seem to make the object that is stored in base accessible to callers. I've made a couple of unsuccesful atttempts, but hopefully someone who knows a bit more about how jQuery plugins work can point me in the right direction.

  • Approach for altering Primary Key from GUID to BigInt in SQL Server related tables

    - by Tom
    I have two tables with 10-20 million rows that have GUID primary keys and at leat 12 tables related via foreign key. The base tables have 10-20 indexes each. We are moving from GUID to BigInt primary keys. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an approach. Right now this is the approach I'm pondering: Drop all indexes and fkeys on all the tables involved. Add 'NewPrimaryKey' column to each table Make the key identity on the two base tables Script the data change "update table x, set NewPrimaryKey = y where OldPrimaryKey = z Rename the original primarykey to 'oldprimarykey' Rename the 'NewPrimaryKey' column 'PrimaryKey' Script back all the indexes and fkeys Does this seem like a good approach? Does anyone know of a tool or script that would help with this? TD: Edited per additional information. See this blog post that addresses an approach when the GUID is the Primary: http://www.sqlmag.com/blogs/sql-server-questions-answered/sql-server-questions-answered/tabid/1977/entryid/12749/Default.aspx

  • ASP.NET Thread Safety in aspx.cs code behind file

    - by Tim Michalski
    I am thinking of adding a DataContext as a member variable to my aspx.cs code-behind class for executing LinqToSql queries. Is this thread safe? I am not sure if a new instance of this code-behind class is created for each HTTP request, or if the instance is shared amongst all request threads? My fear is that I will get 10 simultaneous concurrent http requests that will be using the same database session. public partial class MyPage : System.Web.UI.Page { private DataContext myDB = new DataContext(); protected void MyAction_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { myDB.DoWork(); } }

  • What's the straightforward way to implement one to many editing in list_editable in django admin?

    - by Nate Pinchot
    Given the following models: class Store(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=150) class ItemGroup(models.Model): group = models.CharField(max_length=100) code = models.CharField(max_length=20) class ItemType(models.Model): store = models.ForeignKey(Store, on_delete=models.CASCADE, related_name="item_types") item_group = models.ForeignKey(ItemGroup) type = models.CharField(max_length=100) Inline's handle adding multiple item_types to a Store nicely when viewing a single Store. The content admin team would like to be able to edit stores and their types in bulk. Is there a simple way to implement Store.item_types in list_editable which also allows adding new records, similar to horizontal_filter? If not, is there a straightforward guide that shows how to implement a custom list_editable template? I've been Googling but haven't been able to come up with anything. Also, if there is a simpler or better way to set up these models that would make this easier to implement, feel free to comment.

  • Rails belongs_to issue in the views

    - by Jacobo Tibaquira

  • how to open many files simultaneously for reading in c

    - by monkeyking
    I'm trying to port some of my c++ code into c. I have the following construct class reader{ private: FILE *fp; alot_of_data data;//updated by read_until() method public: reader(const char*filename) read_until(some conditional dependent on the contents of the file, and the arg supplied) } Im then instantiating hundreds of these object and iterate over them using several 'read_until()' for each file until allfiles is at eof. I'm failing to see any clever way to do this in c, the only solution I can come up with is making an array of FILE pointers, and do the same with all the private member data from my class. But this seems very messy, can I implement the functionality of my class as a function pointer, or anything better, I think I'm missing a fundamental design pattern? The files are way to big to have all in memory, so reading everything from every file is not feasible Thanks

  • Operator Overloading with C# Extension Methods

    - by Blinky
    I'm attempting to use extension methods to add an operater overload to the C# StringBuilder class. Specifically, given StringBuilder sb, I'd like sb += "text" to become equivalent to sb.Append("text"); Here's the syntax for creating an extension method for StringBuilder: public static class sbExtensions { public static StringBuilder blah(this StringBuilder sb) { return sb; } } It successfully adds the "blah" extension method to the StringBuilder. Unfortunately, operator overloading does not seem to work: public static class sbExtensions { public static StringBuilder operator +(this StringBuilder sb, string s) { return sb.Append(s); } } Among other issues, the keyword 'this' is not allowed in this context. Are adding operator overloads via extension methods possible? If so, what's the proper way to go about it?

  • How to tell a method has a varargs argument using reflection?

    - by Anthony Kong
    Here is a sample code package org.example; import java.lang.reflect.Method; class TestRef { public void testA(String ... a) { for (String i : a) { System.out.println(i); } } public static void main(String[] args){ Class testRefClass = TestRef.class; for (Method m: testRefClass.getMethods()) { if (m.getName() == "testA") { System.out.println(m); } } } } The output is public void org.example.TestRef.testA(java.lang.String[]) So the signature of the method is reported to take a array of String. Is there any mean in the reflection library I can tell that the method is originally declared to take a varargs?

  • Confused by this PHP Exception try..catch nesting

    - by Domenic
    Hello. I'm confused by the following code: class MyException extends Exception {} class AnotherException extends MyException {} class Foo { public function something() { print "throwing AnotherException\n"; throw new AnotherException(); } public function somethingElse() { print "throwing MyException\n"; throw new MyException(); } } $a = new Foo(); try { try { $a->something(); } catch(AnotherException $e) { print "caught AnotherException\n"; $a->somethingElse(); } catch(MyException $e) { print "caught MyException\n"; } } catch(Exception $e) { print "caught Exception\n"; } I would expect this to output: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught MyException But instead it outputs: throwing AnotherException caught AnotherException throwing MyException caught Exception Could anyone explain why it "skips over" catch(MyException $e) ? Thanks.

  • java/Swing issue with paintComponent

    - by user310254
    The issue I'm having is issue with is I'm trying to get the paintComponent to draw the circle only when the mouse is clicked, dragged, then let go. However inside my paintPanel class I have to initialize the object I've created (ex. movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0);) just creating the object movedCircle myCircle; gives an error until I actually fully initialize the object with a value. What I'm looking for: What's considered the best practice for this issue. I don't want to draw anything unnecessary before it is needed. The way I know how to fix it: boolean values inside of paintComponent so that way it doesn't draw until somethings actually there. import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class drawCircle extends JFrame{ private JPanel myPanel = new paintPanel(); public drawCircle(){ add(myPanel); } private class paintPanel extends JPanel{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; movedText myText = new movedText(0,0,0,0); movedCircle myCircle = new movedCircle(0,0,0,0); public paintPanel(){ addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter(){ public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, 0, 0); repaint(); } public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); addMouseMotionListener(new MouseMotionAdapter(){ public void mouseDragged(MouseEvent e){ x2 = e.getX(); y2 = e.getY(); myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); myCircle = new movedCircle(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } public void mouseMoved(MouseEvent e){ x1 = e.getX(); y1 = e.getY(); x2 = 0; y2 = 0; myText = new movedText(x1, y1, x2, y2); repaint(); } }); } protected void paintComponent(Graphics g){ super.paintComponent(g); //draw oval after mouse released myText.paintText(g); myCircle.paintCircle(g); } } class movedCircle{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedCircle(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintCircle(Graphics g){ g.drawOval(x1, y1, x2 - x1, y2 - y1); } } class movedText{ private int x1, y1, x2, y2; public movedText(int x1, int y1, int x2, int y2){ this.x1 = x1; this.y1 = y1; this.x2 = x2; this.y2 = y2; } public void paintText(Graphics g){ g.drawString("x1: "+x1+" y1: "+y1+" x2: "+x2+" y2: "+y2, x1, y1); } } class RedSquare{ private int xPos = 50; private int yPos = 50; private int width = 20; private int height = 20; public void setX(int xPos){ this.xPos = xPos; } public int getX(){ return xPos; } public void setY(int yPos){ this.yPos = yPos; } public int getY(){ return yPos; } public int getWidth(){ return width; } public int getHeight(){ return height; } public void paintSquare(Graphics g){ g.setColor(Color.RED); g.fillRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); g.setColor(Color.BLACK); g.drawRect(xPos,yPos,width,height); } } public static void main(String[] args){ JFrame frame = new drawCircle(); frame.setTitle("Is in ellipse?   • Ruby on Rails: how to render a string as HTML?

    - by Tim
    I have @str = "<b>Hi</b>" and in my erb view: <%= @str > What will display on the page is: <b>Hi</b> when what I really want is Hi. What's the ruby way to "interpret" a string as HTML markup? Edit: the case where @str = "<span class=\"classname\">hello</span>" If in my view I do <%raw @str %> The HTML source code is <span class=\"classname\">hello</span where what I really want is <span class="classname">hello</span> (without the backslashes that were escaping the double quotes). What's the best way to "unescape" those double quotes?

  • Access &lt;body element from content page via a nested master page

    - by danwellman
    All I want to do is access the <body element from the code-behind of a content page and add a class name to it. I have a top-level master page with the <body element in it. Then I have a nested master page which is the master page for the content page. From the code behind of the content page I want to add a class name to the body element. That's all. I have this in the top-level master: <body id="bodyNode" runat="server"> I added this to the code-behind for the content page: Master.bodyNode.Attributes.add("class", "home-page"); And I get a message that: System.Web.UI.MasterPage' does not contain a definition for 'bodyNode If I add this to the aspx content page: <% @ MasterType VirtualPath="~/MasterPage.master"%> The message then changes to: bodyNode is inaccessible due to its protection level Please advise, I've wasted like 2 hours on what feels like something that should be really simple to do :(

  • Filter across three tables using Django

    - by Vanessa MacDougal
    I have 3 django models, where the first has a foreign key to the second, and the second has a foreign key to the third. Like this: class Book(models.Model): year_published = models.IntField() author = models.ForeignKey(Author) class Author(models.Model): author_id = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) name = models.CharField(max_length=50) agent = models.ForeignKey(LitAgent) class LitAgent(models.Model): agent_id = models.AutoField(primary_key=True) name = models.CharField(max_length=50) I want to ask for all the literary agents whose authors had books published in 2006, for example. How can I do this in Django? I have looked at the documentation about filters and QuerySets, and don't see an obvious way. Thanks.

  • JS / JQuery character problem

    - by Jimmy Farax
    I have a code which has a character that JS is not handling properly. $(document).ready(function(){ $.getJSON("http://sjama.tumblr.com/api/read/json?callback=?", function (data){ for (var i=0; i<data.posts.length; i++){ var blog = data.posts[i]; var id = blog.id; var type = blog.type; var photo = blog.photo-url-250; if (type == "photo"){ $("#blog_holder").append('<div class="blog_item_holder"><div class="blog_item_top"><img src='+photo+'/></div><div class="blog_item_bottom">caption will go here</div></div>'); } } }); <!-- end $.getJSON }); The problem is with this line: var photo = blog.photo-url-250; after "blog." it reads the "url" part weirdly because of the dash (-) in between. What can I do to sort this problem out?

  • Unittest and mock

  • PHP is not returning me a number type

  • Caching result of setUp() using Python unittest

    - by dbr
    I currently have a unittest.TestCase that looks like.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): def setup(self): self.all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) def test_has_trailers(self): self.failUnless(len(self.all_trailers) > 1) # ..more tests.. This works fine, but the Trailers() call takes about 2 seconds to run.. Given that setUp() is called before each test is run, the tests now take almost 10 seconds to run (with only 3 test functions) What is the correct way of caching the self.all_trailers variable between tests? Removing the setUp function, and doing.. class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) ..works, but then it claims "Ran 3 tests in 0.000s" which is incorrect.. The only other way I could think of is to have a cache_trailers global variable (which works correctly, but is rather horrible): cache_trailers = None class test_appletrailer(unittest.TestCase): def setUp(self): global cache_trailers if cache_trailers is None: cache_trailers = self.all_trailers = all_trailers = Trailers(res = "720", verbose = True) else: self.all_trailers = cache_trailers

  • Any reason why NGEN should hang and never complete for a particular assembly?

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
    I have a class library project for .NET 3.5 built with Visual Studio 2008. If I try to NGEN the core assembly in this solution file, NGEN never completes, or at least not in the time I've bothered to let it run (like overnight). Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, did you solve it? And if you did, how? What steps did you take? If this is a bug in NGEN, how do I post this to Microsoft? I have a connect account, but where do I post a bug-report for this particular product, instead of a .NET class (which I know where to go for.) The class library in question can be found here: http://svn.vkarlsen.no:81/svn/LVK/LVK_3_5/trunk (subversion 1.6 repository) The problematic assembly is the LVK.Core assembly.

  • How to set a __str__ method for all ctype Structure classes?

    - by Reuben Thomas
    [Since asking this question, I've found: http://www.cs.unc.edu/~gb/blog/2007/02/11/ctypes-tricks/ which gives a good answer.] I just wrote a __str__ method for a ctype-generated Structure class 'foo' thus: def foo_to_str(self): s = [] for i in foo._fields_: s.append('{}: {}'.format(i[0], foo.\_\_getattribute__(self, i[0]))) return '\n'.join(s) foo.\_\_str__ = foo_to_str But this is a fairly natural way to produce a __str__ method for any Structure class. How can I add this method directly to the Structure class, so that all Structure classes generated by ctypes get it? (I am using the h2xml and xml2py scripts to auto-generate ctypes code, and this offers no obvious way to change the names of the classes output, so simply subclassing Structure, Union &c. and adding my __str__ method there would involve post-processing the output of xml2py.)
