  • Error displaying a WinForm in Design mode with a custom control on it.

    I have a UserControl that is part of a Class library. I reference this project from my solution. This adds a control from the referenced project to my toolbox. I add tghe control to a form. Everything looks good, I compile all and run. Perfect... But when I close the .frm with the control on it and re-open it, I get this error. The code continues to run. It may have something to do with namespaces. The original namespace was simply "Design" and this was ambiguous and conflicting so i decided to rename it. I think that's when my problems began. To prevent possible data loss before loading the designer, the following errors must be resolved: 2 Errors Ignore and Continue Why am I seeing this page? Could not find type 'Besi.Winforms.HtmlEditor.Editor'. Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced.   • HTML: Place an image on top of another one

    Inside a div, there is a picture that should have 10px margin in all directions from the DIV's border. On the left bottom corner of the picture there is an about-image. The picture is only displayed when its loaded in the DOM through jquery. The problem is that the existence of the about-image dislocates the picture downwards as many pixels as the height of the about-image. I am looking for the cleanest possible alternative to keep the picture inside the DIV and still display the about-image on top of it. Setting the picture as background will not work since i need the picture to load at once. Any improvement on the #about css would be greatly appreciated.   • Cloud-aware programming and help choosing a good framework

    How can i write a cloud-aware application? e.g. an application that takes benefit of being deployed on cloud. Is it same as an application that runs or a vps/dedicated server? if not then what are the differences? are there any design changes? What are the procedures that i need to take if i am to migrate an application to cloud-aware? Also i am about to implement a web application idea which would need features like security, performance, caching, and more importantly free. I have been comparing some frameworks and found that django has least RAM/CPU usage and works great in prefork+threaded mode, but i have also read that django based sites stop to respond with huge load of connections. Other frameworks that i have seen/know are Zend, CakePHP, Lithium/Cake3, CodeIgnitor, Symfony, Ruby on Rails.... So i would leave this to your opinion as well, suggest me a good free framework based on my needs. Finally thanks for reading the essay ;)

  • How do I compress a Json result from ASP.NET MVC with IIS 7.5

    I'm having difficulty making IIS 7 correctly compress a Json result from ASP.NET MVC. I've enabled static and dynamic compression in IIS. I can verify with Fiddler that normal text/html and similar records are compressed. Viewing the request, the accept-encoding gzip header is present. The response has the mimetype "application/json", but is not compressed. I've identified that the issue appears to relate to the MimeType. When I include mimeType="*/*", I can see that the response is correctly gzipped. How can I get IIS to compress WITHOUT using a wildcard mimeType? I assume that this issue has something to do with the way that ASP.NET MVC generates content type headers. The CPU usage is well below the dynamic throttling threshold.   • when long polling, Why are my other requests taking so long?

    The client makes 2 concurrent requests. (1 which takes 60 seconds - long polling) and another which is NOT long polling - supposed to return right away. It does return right away when I'm not doing long polling. But as soon as I start doing long polling with the other thread, the other one takes forever to execute. Firebug shows that the request is waiting for 10-50 seconds. On the server, I profiled ALL requests from the moment the php script starts to the time it goes back to the client, and it shows that each one only took 300ms or less. This problem started about the same time I started doing long polling (with the other XHR requests). I'm using jquery for both requests. The server shows that it is under very light load. CPU and memory less then 2%. 8 processes running out of a pool of 15. (it doesn't seem to deviate much from that number 8, even when I run more ajax requests). I guess each process can run multiple ajax threads concurrently. I made sure to EXIT from all processes as soon as their done executing. I don't see how the process pool has run out, if there are still 7 unused processes listed under prstat -J. Also, the problem happens somewhat intermittently. Firefox should be able to handle 2 concurrent ajax requests. i dont get what the problem is.

  • Better why of looping to detect change.

    As of now I'm using a while(true) method to detect changes in memory. The problem with this is it's kill the applications performance. I have a list of 30 pointers that need checked as rapidly as possible for changes, without sacrificing a huge performance loss.   • Is possible to make mt.exe embed manifest files correctly in Visual Studio 2008?

    I found that mt.exe fails to correctly create and embed manifest files into executables when run inside a VCPROJ. For example the same executable load well on Windows 7 but failed to load on Windows XP. The manifest was embedded and correct. After I spend lots of hours searching for possible reasons and solution I modified the project settings to generate the manifest outside the exe file. Now it works on both systems. Granted, the objects are different but neither of them contain the key @"type" and they both should throw errors, yet the Osirix code Tests for both conditions: if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Series"]) { ... } if ([[item valueForKey:@"type"] isEqualToString:@"Study"]) { ... } And throws no errors. Yet when I load an NSManagedObject of the same exact model and entity @"Series" it throws the 'no key value' when passed into the conditions above. Am I missing something? Both the superentity and subentities of itemSeries and itemStudy are nil so they don't inherit from something that has KVC @"type". I'm totally at a loss as to explain what is going on. --- EDIT --- I know no one can explain what is going on... but maybe where to start looking? If simply pass objects 'as is' that boost throws exception about duplicated pointers. But I'm confused of creating pointers to save objects. The second (2) is a real trouble. If comment out string after (2.1) then boost will corectly load a first Key object (and init internal Door pointer pDoor), but will not init a second Door (d_in) object. After this I have an inited *k_in* object with valid pointer to Door and empty *d_in* object. If use string (2.2) then boost will create two Key and Door objects somewhere in memory and save addresses in pointers. But I want to have two objects *k_in* and *d_in*. So, if I copy a values of memory objects to local variables then I store only addresses, for example, I can write code after (2.2): d_in.id = pD->id; d_in.pKey = pD->pKey; But in this case I store only a pointer and memory object remains in memory and I cannot delete it, because *d_in.pKey* will be unvalid. And I cannot perform a deep copy with operator=(), because if I write code like this: Key &operator==(const Key &k) { if (this != &k) { id = k.id; // call to Door::operator=() that calls *pKey = *d.pKey and so on *pDoor = *k.pDoor; } return *this; } then I will get a something like recursion of operator=()s of Key and Door. How to implement proper serialization of such pointers?

I am able to get url to invoke my associated controller, but not able to foward the request from which to my jsp resource as indicated by the output on the browser: The requested resource (/Spring30HelloWorld/helloworldcontroller) is not available. A word of suggestion on fixing the issue would be appreciated!! Please refer below for my code set up.     Hello, My purpose is to match this kind of different urls: url.com my.url.com my.extended.url.com a.super.extended.url.com and so on... So, I decided to build the regex to have a letter or a number at start and end of the url, and to have a infinite number of "subdomains" with alphanumeric characters and a dot. For example, in "my.extended.url.com", "m" from "my" is the first class of the regex, "m" from "com" is the last class of the regex, and "y.", "extended." and "url." are the second class of the regex. Using the pattern and subject in the code below, I want the find method to return me a false because this url must not match, but it uses 100% of CPU and seems to stay in an infinite loop.   • Figuring out the performance limitation of an ADC on a PIC microcontroller

    I'm spec-ing the suitability of a microcontroller like PIC for an analog-to-digital application. This would be preferable to using external A/D chips. To do that, I've had to run through some computations, pulling the relevant parameters from the datasheets. I'm not sure I've got it right -- would appreciate a check! Here's the simplest example: PIC10F220 is the simplest possible PIC with an ADC. Runs at clock speed of 8MHz. Has an instruction cycle of 0.5us (4 clock steps per instruction) So: Taking Tacq = 6.06 us (acquisition time for ADC, assume chip temp. = 50*C) [datasheet p34] Taking Fosc = 8MHz (? clock speed) Taking divisor = 4 (4 clock steps per CPU instruction) This gives TAD = 0.5us (TAD = 1/(Fosc/divisor) ) Conversion time is 13*TAD [datasheet p31] This gives conversion time 6.5us ADC duration is then 12.56 us [? Tacq + 13*TAD] Assuming at least 2 instructions for load/store: This is another 1 us [0.5 us per instruction] Which would give max sampling rate of 73.7 ksps (1/13.56) Supposing 8 more instructions for real-time processing: This is another 4 us Thus, total ADC/handling time = 17.56us (12.56us + 1us + 4us) So expected upper sampling rate is 56.9 ksps. Nyquist frequency for this sampling rate is therefore 28 kHz. If this is right, it suggests the (theoretical) performance suitability of this chip's A/D is for signals that are bandlimited to 28 kHz.   • Ad Server does not serve ads in Firefox, but works fine in Chrome, IE, & Safari!?

    I'm having a strange (likely JavaScript) related issue. I'm running Open X Ad Server ( http://www.openx.org ) which serves ads to the website http://upsidedowndogs.com . The ads load fine every time when visiting the site via Chrome, IE, or Safari, but sometimes don't load at all in FireFox - Hence, it is a client side issue, which leads me to believe its something up with the javascript. The fact that the problem is intermittent, and does not through any error codes to FireBug, also doesn't make it any easier to diagnose and address. Any ideas how to diagnose / address this issue?     I just successfully installed WysiHat in my rails blog. Seems that the 'add a picture' feature is not working. It successfully allows me to find and select a picture from my desktop but upon clicking save, it does nothing. I also have Paperclip successfully installed and can attach images to records outside the WYSIHAT form field. Any ideas? (let me know if I need to post any code). Also, WysiHat-engine uses facebox, not sure if that is relevant. UPDATE: Added Server Log, looks like paperclip is saving it so not sure what else is going wrong.   • How to speed up marching cubes?

    I'm using this marching cube algorithm to draw 3D isosurfaces (ported into C#, outputting MeshGeomtry3Ds, but otherwise the same). The resulting surfaces look great, but are taking a long time to calculate. Are there any ways to speed up marching cubes? The most obvious one is to simply reduce the spatial sampling rate, but this reduces the quality of the resulting mesh. I'd like to avoid this. I'm considering a two-pass system, where the first pass samples space much more coarsely, eliminating volumes where the field strength is well below my isolevel. Is this wise? What are the pitfalls? Edit: the code has been profiled, and the bulk of CPU time is split between the marching cubes routine itself and the field strength calculation for each grid cell corner. The field calculations are beyond my control, so speeding up the cubes routine is my only option... I'm still drawn to the idea of trying to eliminate dead space, since this would reduce the number of calls to both systems considerably.

    I have a business requirement that I filter a boolean value in my ngGrid. The filter has three states: only true, only false and both. Filtering like this seems to be a common enough use case that I should refactor that functionality out of my code for re use (possibly in a directive/filter?). I'd like to know how I can go about pulling out the customFilter function in my controller and make it so that I can pass the filter a property name on which to filter, and a value for selectedFilterOption. The code currently works, but I feel like this is a good chance to get better at angular :).   • SDL side-scroller scrolls inconsistantly

    So I'm working on an upgrade from my previous project (that I posted here for code review) this time implementing a repeating background (like what is used on cartoons) so that SDL doesn't have to load really big images for a level. There's a strange inconsistency in the program, however: the first time the user scrolls all the way to the right 2 less panels are shown than is specified. Going backwards (left) the correct number of panels is shown (that is the panels repeat the number of times specified in the code). After that it appears that going right again (once all the way at the left) the correct number of panels is shown and same going backwards.     I've tried to develop a simple winform utility which is using xml file as its database. I've used VS 2008 express edition, C#. When this utility tries to write into the xml file then this error is displayed on other computer. I've tried to provide System.Xml.dll & System.Xml.Linq.dll in the same folder on the other computer but no use. What does it means? Any solution?     The bib.style part may be the problem. If I do not reference to references, do they show up? I have listed all errors below, the file compiles so I don't know whether they are related to partially-showing-up-references. For example, work with many authors gets only one author listed.   • Figuring out the Nyquist performance limitation of an ADC on an example PIC microcontroller

    I'm spec-ing the suitability of a dsPIC microcontroller for an analog-to-digital application. This would be preferable to using dedicated A/D chips and a separate dedicated DSP chip. To do that, I've had to run through some computations, pulling the relevant parameters from the datasheets. I'm not sure I've got it right -- would appreciate a check! (EDITED NOTE: The PIC10F220 in the example below was selected ONLY to walk through a simple example to check that I'm interpreting Tacq, Fosc, TAD, and divisor correctly in working through this sort of Nyquist analysis. The actual chips I'm considering for the design are the dsPIC33FJ128MC804 (with 16b A/D) or dsPIC30F3014 (with 12b A/D).) A simple example: PIC10F220 is the simplest possible PIC with an ADC Runs at clock speed of 8MHz. Has an instruction cycle of 0.5us (4 clock steps per instruction) So: Taking Tacq = 6.06 us (acquisition time for ADC, assume chip temp. = 50*C) [datasheet p34] Taking Fosc = 8MHz (? clock speed) Taking divisor = 4 (4 clock steps per CPU instruction) This gives TAD = 0.5us (TAD = 1/(Fosc/divisor) ) Conversion time is 13*TAD [datasheet p31] This gives conversion time 6.5us ADC duration is then 12.56 us [? Tacq + 13*TAD] Assuming at least 2 instructions for load/store: This is another 1 us [0.5 us per instruction] Which would give max sampling rate of 73.7 ksps (1/13.56) Supposing 8 more instructions for real-time processing: This is another 4 us Thus, total ADC/handling time = 17.56us (12.56us + 1us + 4us) So expected upper sampling rate is 56.9 ksps. Nyquist frequency for this sampling rate is therefore 28 kHz. If this is right, it suggests the (theoretical) performance suitability of this chip's A/D is for signals that are bandlimited to 28 kHz. Is this a correct interpretation of the information given in the data sheet in obtaining the Nyquist performance limit? Any opinions on the noise susceptibility of ADCs in PIC / dsPIC chips would be much appreciated! AKE

  • Locating memory leak in Apache httpd process, PHP/Doctrine-based application

    I have a PHP application using these components: Apache 2.2.3-31 on Centos 5.4 PHP 5.2.10 Xdebug 2.0.5 with Remote Debugging enabled APC 3.0.19 Doctrine ORM for PHP 1.2.1 using Query Caching and Results Caching via APC MySQL 5.0.77 using Query Caching I've noticed that when I start up Apache, I eventually end up 10 child processes. As time goes on, each process will grow in memory until each one approaches 10% of available memory, which begins to slow the server to a crawl since together they grow to take up 100% of memory. How can I track down which part of my app is causing the memory leak? What tools can I use to see how the memory usage is growing inside the httpd process and what is contributing to it?

  • Does anyone know of a good Commercial WPF Web Browser Control?

    I have an MDI WPF app that I need to add web content too. At first, great it looks like I have 2 options built into the framework the Frame control and the WebBrowser control. Given that this is an MDI app it doesn't take long to discover that neither of these will work. The WebBrowser control wraps up the IE WebBrowser ActiveX Control which uses the Win32 graphics pipeline. The "Airspace" issue pretty much sums this up as "Sorry, the layouts will not play nice together". Yes, I have thought about taking snapshots of the web content rendering these and mapping the mouse and keyboard events back to the browser control, but I can't afford the performance penalty and I really don't have time to write and thoroughly test it. I have looked for third party controls, but so far I have only found Chris Cavanagh's WPF Chromium Web Browser control. Which wraps up Awesomium 1.5. Together these are very cool, they play nice with the WPF layouts. But they do not meet my performance requirements. They are VERY HEAVY on memory consumption and not to friendly with CPU usage either. Not to mention still quite buggy. I'll elaborate if you are interested. So, do any of you know of a stable performant WPF web browser control? Thanks.
