  • second monitor wont display [closed]

    hi all my problem is this: i have one video card (radeon hd 4350) and 2 monitors (dell). the first monitor works using dvi-to-dvi. the second does not, using hdmi-to-dvi. the monitor does not register any input. however when i use vga-to-vga, the second monitor does work, with a typically low vga resolution. we have tested the hdmi-to-dvi cable, so why does the monitor not register any input? using windows vista. i have installed all the lastest drivers, done all the basic stuff etc. any help at all would be appreciated. thanks

  • Laptop forgets second monitor when it goes to sleep

    I recently updated my nvidia driver... now I have to re-establish the connection to my second monitor everytime the laptop goes to sleep. When I open the NVIDIA control panel, the second monitor is listed there but the checkbox beside it has been cleared. Oddly my laptop screen is identified as display #3 and the external screen as display #4. Is there a registry key that I can clear to get them set back to #1 & #2? Will that fix the problem? Or is there a simpler solution. (It's a Dell Studio XPS laptop with GeForce 9500M running Windows Vista 64-bit) TIA Al

  • 1K incoming http post requests per second, each with a 10-50K file

    I'm trying to figure out what kind of server setup I will need to support: 1K http post requests per second each post will contain a xml file between 5-50K (average of 25 kilobytes) Even if I get a 100 Mb/s connection with my dedicated box (they usually give 10 Mb/s but you can upgrade), from my calculations that is about 12K kb/s which means about 480 25kb files per second. So this means I need around 3 servers then, each with 100 Mb/s connection. Would a single server running HAProxy be able to redirect the requests to other servers or does this mean I need to get something else that can handle more than 100 Mb/s to proxy things out to the other servers? If my math is off I'd appreciate any corrections you may have.

  • Second vm not connecting to internet KVM

    I cannot connect a second VM to the internet. I have two VM's set up and running, the first vm can connect to the Internet fine, the second does not even get a ping through. They are both set up in the same way with the same base packages but different secondary packages. Different sized disks etc. I am a noob with VM and perhaps I am missing something very simple. Like maybe that they have the same mac address or something. They are both using a bridged connection. Any help would be appreciated, and if you need logs please let me know which ones.

  • Windows 7 won't recognize my second hard drive after reinstall

    I recently suffered a total hardware crash on my windows C: drive. Fortunately, I had a spare disk on hand and set about reinstalling. For some reason, during the install it decided to declare my second windows drive as the booting drive, but once the installation was completed it completely and utterly refuses to acknowledge the filesystem -- I'm not even seeing a drive letter, while it /does/ find the linux partitions on the other two drives (even if it can't read any of them). My first (and most important) question: How can I get windows to re-acknowledge the drive, preferably without losing all the data on it? My second question: How can I tell windows to set up its boot loader on the new C: drive?

    I am using s#arp which is built against NHibernate 2.1.1.4000, However I would like to use NHibernate.Caches.SysCache as my second level cache. However the Nhibernate contrib caches are built against NHibernate 2.1.2.4000 which obviously gives me a problem. Can anyone point me to a URL that I can download NHibernate.Caches.SysCache.dll that is built against NHibernate 2.1.1.4000 Or is there another 2nd level cache provider that is easy to implement and is built against NHibernate 2.1.1.4000 Thanks

    I tried to add a second LAN addresses in CentOS 6.3 on a brand new install and it's not working. I installed a new copy of CentOS 5.7 and tried the same and it worked right away.   • Second monitor stopped being recognized by Windows

    One of the developer PC's running Windows Vista Ultimate had the second monitor stop being recognized in Windows overnight. There were no hardware or driver changes at the time, though I have subsequently updated to the latest nVidia drivers (card is NVIDIA GeForce 210). The non-recognized monitor IS recognized during the boot sequence. In fact, only the "bad" one shows the POST or the Windows loading screen. At some point during Windows initialization after the loading screen disappears and before the logon screen appears, the active monitor switches. Any thoughts? UPDATE: When I open the Vista monitor properties window, I see my primary display and secondary display depicted. The primary one is portrayed as the regular blue box, but the secondary one is portrayed greyed-out. I have the option to "Extend desktop to this monitor", the only resolution is 800x600, and all of the advanced monitor properties are greyed out as well. If I opt to extend the desktop, the greyed-out box turns blue, when I then select Apply the screens flash as usual and I'm given the 15 second countdown to accept the new settings and when I do, everything returns to the previously broken state... secondary monitor is portrayed greyed-out again. At no point is the desktop shown on the secondary monitor.

  • Using keyboard disables touchpad left button for a second on Acer laptop in Windows 8.1

    The problem is present in the whole system not only in games: desktop, chrome, games, everywhere. When I press any "input key" on a keyboard for example in desktop I can't select the file by left mouse button OR by tapping the touchpad for about one second(right button works immediately). Later on the LMB works well. There is NO delay, button is just deactivated for a second. In games that means that when I run I cannot shoot for example. When I switched LMB and RMB functions in windows control panel still the LMB is getting disabled and RMB works fine. By "input key" I mean letter or a number, keys like Alt, CapsLock, Ctrl does not affect touchpad. I do not remember that problem when I used Windows 7. USB mouse works like it should. The problem existed when I was using Elantech touchpad driver and after I uninstalled it and used Windows 8.1 generic driver. EDIT I installed the Elantech drivers and set values to 0 at every disable... key. But the problem is still present. EDIT 2 THE LAPTOP IS Acer V3-571G I have turned off disabling function in touchpad but it did not fix it. I know that touchpad is NOT broken down. Turned on the animated touchpad icon of elantech drivers and put it on the task bar(on a picture) When I type the letter and press the LMB the dynamic icon displays the click but it is ignored.

    My Lenovo T61 has a dual core CPU. I just noticed that under Ubuntu 10.10 only one CPU is recognized. I know that once both CPUs worked. Not sure since when the second CPU is missing. Maybe since the last kernel update. Currently I am using linux-image-2.6.35-23-generic (for x86_64). What can I do to enable the second CPU again?   • Servers - Buying New vs Buying Second-hand

    We're currently in the process of adding additional servers to our website. We have a pretty simple topology planned: A Firewall/Router Server infront of a Web Application Server and Database Server. Here's a simple (and technically incorrect) diagram that I used in a previous question to illustrate what I mean: We're now wondering about the specs of our two new machines (the Web App and Firewall servers) and whether we can get away with buying a couple of old servers. (Note: Both machines will be running Windows Server 2008 R2.) We're not too concerned about our Firewall/Router server as we're pretty sure it won't be taxed too heavily, but we are interested in our Web App server. I realise that answering this type of question is really difficult without a ton of specifics on users, bandwidth, concurrent sessions, etc, etc., so I just want to focus on the general wisdom on buying old versus new. I had originally specced a new Dell PowerEdge R300 (1U Rack) for our company. In short, because we're going to be caching as much data as possible, I focussed on Processor Speed and Memory: Quad-Core Intel Xeon X3323 2.5Ghz (2x3M Cache) 1333Mhz FSB 16GB DDR2 667Mhz But when I was looking for a cheap second-hand machine for our Firewall/Router, I came across several machines that made our engineer ask a very reasonable question: If we stuck a boat load of RAM in this thing, wouldn't it do for the Web App Server and save us a ton of money in the process? For example, what about a second-hand machine with the following specs: 2x Dual-Core AMD Opteron 2218 2.6Ghz (2MB Cache) 1000Mhz HT 16GB DDR2 667Mhz Would it really be comparable with the more expensive (new) server above? Our engineer postulated that the reason companies upgrade their servers to newer processors is often because they want to reduce their power costs, and that a 2.6Ghz processor was still a 2.6Ghz processor, no matter when it was made. Benchmarks on various sites don't really support this theory, but I was wondering what server admin thought. Thanks for any advice.

  • Hibernate database integrity with multiple java applications

    We have 2 java web apps both are read/write and 3 standalone java read/write applications (one loads questions via email, one processes an xml feed, one sends email to subscribers) all use hibernate and share a common code base. The problem we have recently come across is that questions loaded via email sometimes overwrite questions created in one of the web apps. We originally thought this to be a caching issue. We've tried turning off the second level cache, but this doesn't make a difference. We are not explicitly opening and closing sessions, but rather let hibernate manage them via Util.getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession(), which thinking about it, may actually be the issue. We'd rather not setup a clustered 2nd level cache at this stage as this creates another layer of complexity and we're more than happy with the level of performance we get from the app as a whole. So does implementing a open-session-in-view pattern in the web apps and manually managing the sessions in the standalone apps sound like it would fix this?   • Windows Question: RunOnce/Second Boot Issues [closed]

    Moved to Super User: Windows Question: RunOnce/Second Boot Issues I am attempting to create a Windows XP SP3 image that will run my application on Second Boot. Here is the intended workflow. 1) Run Image Prep Utility (I wrote) on windows to add my runonce entries and clean a few things up. 2) Reboot to ghost, make image file. 3) Package into my ISO and distribute. 4) System will be imaged by user. 5) On first boot, I have about 5 things that run, one of which includes a driver updater (I wrote) for my own specific devices. 6) One of the entries inside of HKCU/../runonce is a reg file, which adds another key to HKLM/../runonce. This is how second boot is acquired. 7) As a result of the driver updater, user is prompted to reboot. 8) My application is then launched from HKLM/../runonce on second boot. This workflow works perfectly, except for a select few legacy systems that contain devices that cause the add hardware wizard to pop up. When the add hardware wizard pops up is when I begin to see problems. It's important to note, that if I manually inspect the registry after the add hardware wizard pops up, it appears as I would expect, with all the first boot scripts having run, and it's sitting in a state I would correctly expect it to be in for a second boot scenario. The problem comes when I click next on the add hardware wizard, it seems to re-run the single entry I've added, and re-executes the runonce scripts. (only one script now as it's already executed and cleared out the initial entries). This causes my application to open as if it were a second boot, only when next is clicked on the add hardware wizard. If I click cancel, and reboot, then it also works as expected. I don't care as much about other solutions, because I could design a system that doesn't fully rely on Microsoft's registry. I simply can't find any information as to WHY this is happening. I believe this is some type of Microsoft issue that's presenting itself as a result of an overstretched image that's expected to support too many legacy platforms, but any help that can be provided would be appreciated.     Hi, since Teamspeak version 3 sends lots of packets per user and our provider is getting problems with his infrastructure above 20.000 packets per second we have to limit it that our servers are not going to be shut down. Red a lot about iptables but was not able to find the right rules. Could you give me an advise how to manage that the server is not going to send more than 19k packets per seconds?     I have two servers running BIND, the first is setup as the master of two zones and the second as a slave for those zones. The zones are example.com and ddns.example.com. I have DDNS running and thousands of device entries are dynamically created in ddns.example.com. I wanted to keep DDNS separate from the main example.com, so I created a separate zone that the DHCP servers update. Considering these zones are hosted on the same server, is it possible to have delegation working from example.com to ddns.example.com? For example if my workstation's search domain is example.com and pointed towards 10.1.10.1 for its DNS provider, I would like to be able to resolve hostname.ddns. As it is, I can resolve hostname.ddns.example.com, but would like to be able to resolve just hostname.ddns. Alternatively, if the workstation's search domain is ddns.example.com, what settings do I need to be able to change to be able to resolve web, ftp, etc, which are all hosts in the parent, example.com zone? Does the ddns.example.com zone need to forward to the example.com zone?   • windows 7 second monitor switch off after UAC prompt

    I have a laptop with a second monitor connected in extended mode. Every time a UAC prompt comes up, both monitors dim, then about 1 or 2 seconds after the prompt goes away, the extended configuration disappears, leaving me with only the laptop monitor on. I can re-enable the extended monitor manually, but this is a pain. Any ideas?

  • Mac Pro updated to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) doesn't recognize second SuperDrive

    This Mac Pro has dual SuperDrives both upper/lower drivebays, which could be independently ejected via the menubar under 10.5. After upgrading to 10.6, the upper drive no longer responds to the menu command. The eject button has to be hand-pressed with a paperclip to open (but a loaded disc can still be ejected via dragging to the trash). Sounds like a simple setting somewhere, except I can't find it to re-enable the second drive.
