• Announcing SharePoint Saturday Columbus 2010

• Video lags/freezes in SMPlayer and VLC

  When I try to play my video files in SMPlayer it works fine but as soon as I switch to fullscreen mode(16:9) following thing happens: 1) Video starts lagging. 2) Audio and video goes out of sync. 3) CPU usage rises to ~50%. 4) SMPlayer starts to hang. My current SMPlayer configuration: 1)Video Output Driver = x11(slow) 2)Audio Output Driver = alsa(0.0-HDA Intel) 3)Cache = 8192 KB 4)Threads for decoding(MPEG-1/2 and H.264 only = 2 Things I tried solve this problem: 1) Tried changing video o/p driver to xv,gl. 2) Tried changing audio o/p driver to pulse. 3) Tried increasing cache size and also tried using nocache. Everything works fine on windows but I don't want to switch to windows just to play video files. My system config: Acer Aspire One D270 Atom N2600(Cedar Trail) 1.6GHz 2GB Memory Intel GMA 3600 graphics. Ubuntu 12.04 Kernel Release: 3.2.0-23-generic-pae Rest all things are working fine I have no resolution issue, bluetooth, wireless also working fine.   Got an alert on my adsense account which says You have rejected ad requests, which will result in lost revenue. The following ad units have made ad requests with incorrect site information. This occurs when the URL of the server from which the ad unit has been served differs from the URL of the actual page where the ad will be displayed. Learn how to fix these errors. So the solution is that I'll have to use "google_page_url = "http://myurl.com/fullpath";" I'm using wordpress, what should be the URL for google_page_url? For example my website is www.technostall.com. Should I put www.technostall.com there or should I give the path of each post? That is not good because I'm using a sidebar widget for sidebar ad unit. I can't change google_page_url for each page. What should I do? This error is appearing only on my sidebar/navigation ad units. Is using google_page_url = document.location; fine?

• Re-downloading Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard because of license issues?

  I have many clients who have purchased Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard. Unlike other Microsoft software, there is not a serial number provided for each customer to install the software. Futhermore, Microsoft's TechNet website lists this information about SQL Server instead of providing a key: "This product is pre-pidded." This means that the configuration file for SQL server contains your serial number instead of manually entering it. My question is then: does this serial change for each customer? The reason I ask: I'd rather not download a 3.2GB disc image over and over again for each of my customers individually. But, I don't want to risk using the same image over and over again resulting in Microsoft banning the serial for over use (as opposed to each customer using their copy with THEIR serial number.) • How to use second volume devide of amazon EC2

  I have two volumes of amazon EC2 where by default 1 GiB volume using which has fulled. Now I want to use my second volume which is 9 Gim. I used command cat /proc/partitions I got major minor #blocks name 202 1 1048576 xvda1 202 80 9437184 xvdf Then I hit mkfs.ext3 -F /dev/sdf its showing mkfs.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to determine filesystem size then I hit command df and I got Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda1 1032088 1031280 0 100% / tmpfs 313160 8 313152 1% /lib/init/rw udev 297800 24 297776 1% /dev tmpfs 313160 4 313156 1% /dev/shm overflow 1024 32 992 4% /tmp means still I am unable to use my 9 GiB space Volume. I am conform I have two volume where attachment information is i-7e4fb41c:/dev/sda1 (attached) and i-7e4fb41c:/dev/sdf (attached) where only sda1 is using. Any one know how may I use my second volume(sdf). Thx

• "Viral" license that only blocks legal actions of user and developer against each other

  I was thinking a lot about software licensing lately, because I would like to do some coding. I'm not an expert in all those licenses, so I came up with my own idea, and before I will put in on paper, I would like to make sure that I didn't reinvent a wheel, so maybe I would be able to use something that exists. Main idea behind my license is to guarantee freedom of use the software, but not "freedom to" (positive) (e.g. freedom to having source code), but "freedom from" (negative) (strictly from legal actions against you). It would be "viral" copyleft license. You would be able to without fear do everything you want with the software (and binaries e.g. reverse engineering), as long as You will include information about author and/or authors, and all derivative works will be distributed with the same license. I'm not interested in anything that would restrict a freedom of company to do something like "tivoization". I'm just trying to accomplish something that would block any legal actions of user and developer, targeted against each other, with the exception of basic attribution. Does exist something like that?

• Colored Vertical Lines upon boot and nomodeset DOES NOT fix it

  I have installed Lubuntu 13.04 on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, rebooted the machine and encountered this problem. I edited the GRUB configuration to remove "quite splash" and enter "nomodeset", updated grub, and everything was fine. I could reboot the machine without any trouble. However, if I unplug the machine, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in, the problem with the colored lines comes back and nomodeset no longer helps to solve the problem. I tried using radeon.modeset=0 instead of nomodeset and that also works on multiple reboots until I unplug the machine and plug it back in. I was finally able to get around the problem by entering "radeon.exapixmaps=0" instead of radeon.modeset=0. I suppose I kind of made up that boot option using some information from an Arch Wiki page. This would work throughout reboots and even if I unplugged the laptop. It was working fine for quite a while. A few weeks later, I had some unrelated issues with the Java iced-tea plugin, and since 13.10 had just come out, I thought I would try upgrading. So upgrading didn't fix the problem with Java, and after unplugging the machine and trying to use it later, I was back to this problem with the black screen and colored vertical lines. I am completely out of ideas on what to try. It took me a week to figure out how to get it working the first time, but the solution I had isn't working anymore.

  I installed Apache Tomcat-7.0.32 on Linux Mandriva and I want to make it accessible. for this I need to open ports in iptables. I added the following rules- iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8081 --syn -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8010 --syn -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8444 --syn -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m tcp --dport 8006 --syn -j ACCEPT then save and restart iptables - /etc/init.d/iptables save /etc/init.d/iptables restart verify, that ports is open - netstat -tulpn | less I am running command - netstat-ntpl | grep java and see - When I disable the firewall, I see the start page of the server on request - http://server_ip:8081/ When enable - server not accessible from outside. In what may be the cause? I would be most grateful for the information! Thank you!

• Use C2WTS to get a classic windows identity from a claims identity

  SharePoint, WCF and Azure Trainings: more information I know you’re going to find this useful at some point. A lot of backend systems still demand classic windows identities, but everything we do now has moved to claims. So sometimes (albeit rare), we have to translate a claims identity into a classic windows identity. This is where the “Claims to Windows Token Service” comes into play. SharePoint 2010 and 2013 make use of this but you can use this in any .NET application. First of all, there are some basic requirements for this to work, First, you will need the string value of a UPN claim. Just a string value, really! This means you can also use FBA or anything else. The “proper” way to do this of course is that you must originate this from a AD backed claim. So a user authenticated using ADFS or similar would be perfect. • Microeconomical simulation: coordination/planning between self-interested trading agents

  In a typical perfect-information strategy game like Chess, an agent can calculate its best move by searching the state tree for the best possible move, while assuming that the opponent will also make the best possible move (i.e. Mini-max). I would like to use this approach in a "game" modeling economic activity, where the possible "moves" would be to buy or sell for a given price, and the goal, rather than a specific class of states (e.g. Checkmate), would be to maximize some function F of the agent's state (e.g. F(money, widget) = 10*money + widget). How to handle buy/sell actions that require coordination between both parties, at the very least agreement upon a price? The cheap way out would be to set the price beforehand, maybe based upon the current supply -- but the idea of this simulation is to examine how prices emerge when freely determined by "perfectly rational" agents. A great example of what I do not want is the trading algorithm in SugarScape -- paraphrasing from Growing Artificial Societies p101-102: when a pair of agents interact to trade, they each compute their internal valuations of the goods, then a bargaining process is conducted and a price is agreed to. If this price makes both agents better off, they complete the transaction The protocol itself is beautiful, but what it cannot capture (as far as I can tell) is the ability for an agent to pay more than it might otherwise for a good, because it knows that it can sell it for even more at a later date -- what appears to be called "strategic thinking" in this pape at Google Books Multi-Agent-Based Simulation III: 4th International Workshop, MABS 2003... to get realistic behavior like that, it seems one would either (1) have to build an outrageously-complex internal valuation system which could at best only cover situations that were planned for at compile-time, or otherwise (2) have some mechanism to search the state tree... which would require some way of planning future trades. Note: The chess analogy only works as far as the state-space search goes; the simulation isn't intended to be "zero sum", so a literal mini-max search wouldn't be appropriate -- and ideally, it should work with more than two agents.

• Sorting objects before rendering

  I'm trying to implement a scene graph and in all the articles i've come across there is talk about object sorting. So you'd sort your objects by "material" for example. Now untill i sat down and started implementing it, i kind of took this for granted, because it made sense. But now i'm wondering what does sorting actually change? In my engine, i have a manager for UBOs, i use those to store data that'll be shared between programs, at the moment that only involves time, camera and projection matrices and lights (i'm not worrying about managing which lights affect which objects ATM). Now for each model i have to change the model to world matrix uniform, no sorting is going to change that. So is the jump from changing this matrix to also setting a material for each object that bad? I vaguely remember reading somewhere that each time you change something in the pipeline, it has to get flushed and that can cause performance issues. But for each drawing call i'm setting up a model to world matrix anyway, so what sense does it make to ever be concerned about this? BTW is there any information about whether changing a uniform and calling glBufferSubData is more (or less) expensive.

• How to tell which physical disks have bootable MBR?

  The computer I am using right now has 6 physical disks attached. Using the BIOS's "select boot device" functionality I have discovered that I can boot off 3 of these disks into the exact same bootloader. This means that all of these disks have the bootable flag set on their MBR, even though I had been under the impression that only 2 of them are in fact bootable. My question is: is there an easy way to check which disks have a bootable MBR with a command line tool or some OS utility? I am aware of the DISKPART tool and its basic functionality, but I haven't found how to view the information I need. The OS is Windows 7 x64 Ultimate with SP1.

• Dealing with bad/incomplete/unclear specifications?

  I'm working on a project where our dev team gets the specifications from the business part of the company. Both the business management and the IT management require estimates and deadline projections, as they should. The good thing is that estimates are mostly made by the actual developers who get to do the required features. The bad thing is that the specifications are usually either too simple (it turns out you're left with a lot of question marks over your head because a lot of information seems to be missing) or too complex(up to the point that you can't even visualize where everything would "fit" in the app). More often than not, the business part of the specs are either incomplete or unaware of what can and can't be done (given the previously implemented business logic). Dev team is given about a day per new spec to give an estimate and we do try to clear uncertainties, usually by meeting up with whoever did the spec. Most of the times it turns out that spec writers haven't really thought everything through, and it's usually only when we start designing and developing that we end up in trouble, as a lot of the spec seems to have holes. How do you deal with this? Are you generous on estimates in advance?

  In this blog I will explain how to create a custom KFF.I am using XXCUST_KFF_DEMO table to capture the KFF code combinations. Following steps needs to perform. 1) Register the XXCUST_KFF_DEMO table.Click here to see the code. Verify the table has created successfully. Navigation: Application Developer > Application > Database > Table 2) Register the Key Flexfield. Navigation : Application Developer > Flexfield > Key Flexfields 3) Define the structure and segments.  Navigation:  Application Developer > Flexfield > Key Flexfield Segments Click on Segments button. Save the created Information.Check the Allow Dynamic Inserts check box if you want to create the combination from the KFF display window. Once you complete all the changes check the Freeze Flexfield Definition check box. 4) Create a sequence XXCUST_KFF_DEMO_S. 5) Try to create KFF item through OAF or Forms. • Why is the network speed on my Mac Pro (early 2009) so slow?

  I have a really weird networking issue on my Mac Pro (Early 2009). I can’t get higher network speeds than about 2MBit/s. It doesn’t matter if this is over AirPort or one of the Ethernet ports. An iMac and a Mac mini in the same network with almost the same configuration get about 25-30 MBit/s. I’ve read a couple of things about this on the official Apple forums, but there is no helpful information. Anyone else with Mac Pro network speed issues and who knows how to solve them?

What good is an immediate stock-out notification if the supply chain can’t react until tomorrow? Since being formed in 2006, Oracle Retail has been not only adding more integrations between systems, but also modernizing integrations for appropriate speed. Notice I tossed in the word “appropriate.” Not everything needs to be real-time – again, we’re talking about Right-Time Retail. The speed of data capture, analysis, and execution must be synchronized or you’re wasting effort. Unfortunately, there isn’t an enterprise-wide dial that you can crank-up for your estate. You’ll need to improve things piecemeal, with people and processes as limiting factors while choosing the appropriate types of integrations. There are three integration styles we see in the retail industry. First is batch. I know, the word “batch” just sounds slow, but this pattern is less about velocity and more about volume. When there are large amounts of data to be moved, you’ll want to use batch processes. Our technology of choice here is Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), which provides a fast version of Extract-Transform-Load (ETL). Instead of the three-step process, the load and transform steps are combined to save time. ODI is a key technology for moving data into Retail Analytics where we can apply science. Performing analytics on each sale as it occurs doesn’t make any sense, so we batch up a statistically significant amount and submit all at once. The second style is fire-and-forget. For some types of data, we want the data to arrive ASAP but immediacy is not necessary. Speed is less important than guaranteed delivery, so we use message-oriented middleware available in both Weblogic and the Oracle database. For example, Point-of-Service transactions are queued for delivery to Central Office at corporate. If the network is offline, those transactions remain in the queue and will be delivered when the network returns. Transactions cannot be lost and they must be delivered in order. (Ever tried processing a return before the sale?) To enhance the standard queues, we offer the Retail Integration Bus (RIB) to help the management and monitoring of fire-and-forget messaging in the enterprise. The third style is request-response and is most commonly implemented as Web services. This is a synchronous message where the sender waits for a response. In this situation, the volume of data is small, guaranteed delivery is not necessary, but speed is very important. Examples include the website checking inventory, a price lookup, or processing a credit card authorization. The Oracle Service Bus (OSB) typically handles the routing of such messages, and we’ve enhanced its abilities with the Retail Service Backbone (RSB). To better understand these integration patterns and where they apply within the retail enterprise, we’re providing the Retail Reference Library (RRL) at no charge to Oracle Retail customers. The library is composed of a large number of industry business processes, including those necessary to support Commerce Anywhere, as well as detailed architectural diagrams. These diagrams allow implementers to understand the systems involved in integrations and the specific data payloads. Furthermore, with our upcoming release we’ll be providing a new tool called the Retail Integration Console (RIC) that allows IT to monitor and manage integrations from a single point. Using RIC, retailers can quickly discern where integration activity is occurring, volume statistics, average response times, and errors. The dashboards provide the ability to dive down into the architecture documentation to gather information all the way down to the specific payload. Retailers that want real-time integrations will also need real-time monitoring of those integrations to ensure service-level agreements are maintained. Part 3 looks at marketing.

• XP Mode under Win 7 Professional: Windows Activation Update failure despite activated Windows

  I am trying to install Windows XP Mode from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx (the Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool has given me the green for proceeding) Even though my Windows has been activated a year or so ago, the download button leads me to a splash screen saying "Windows validation required". I am next forced to download a WindowsActivationUpdate.exe which, after downloading some mysterious "update", fails with the error message "Update installation failed, error information 0x80070002" (rough translation from German). I've tried running it both normally and as Administrator. What could be the problem?
