• Eclipse -vm option trouble

  I'm having trouble setting up a new eclipse installation with the -vm option. I'm using the eclipse.ini file below (which has worked in the past). I need this for the m2eclipse plugin. Currently, if I include the -vm option eclipse fails to start. • What is the point of JComboBox's getSelectedItem()?

  I just read the JavaDoc for JComboBox (I promise I have a life... I wasn't reading through for fun. =P), and I think the problems I'm having with my program can be attributed to the getSelectedItem() method. The documentation says: Returns the current selected item. If the combo box is editable, then this value may not have been added to the combo box with addItem, insertItemAt or the data constructors. If you can't get values that were added with those methods or with the constructor, of what use is the method? And how can I get the value from an "editable" JComboBox? • Frequent Netbeans freezes

  I'm using Netbeans 6.8 for PHP projects located on network drives in a Windows network. Frequently, the IDE gets really slow (like a temporary freeze) to a point where it's totally unusable. At first it seems like a total crash, but after some time (might be sevaral minutes) the IDE works again as before. This happens with Netbeans 6.7 as well as 6.8 on my Windows XP 32-bit installation. I'm using Java 1.6.0_13. This is a fresh Netbeans installation, so it can't have to do with too many temp files. I assume it has to do with the frequent code checks that Netbeans does. It's probably not very fast when doing this over the network connection. But it can't be that this feature renders the IDE useless... When I try to run this code, System.out.println("STRING TOKENIZER CLASS".contains(" ")); It printed funny result, FALSE It sound not logical right? I've no idea what went wrong. I found out the reason, the space was not recognized as valid space by Java somehow. But, I don't know how it turned up to be like that from the front processing up to the code that I've posted.

• Is it possible to have a JPanel over JTable

  Hello, I have a JTable whose associated TableModel could be initially empty. Therefore, it currently shows a JTable with its columns and no rows. In order to fill this JTable, I want the user to drag and drop elements from another component. The problem is that I would like to hint the user that he/she should drag elements to this table, with some message like "Drag xxx here to add a row". I thought that I could achieve this by putting a panel over the JTable , but I don't think it is possible with any java layout. Does anyone know how to do this? Or should I stick to a CardLayout to switch to/from the hint and the JTable? Thanks a lot

• How to transfer Netbeans Project into Eclipse?

  I have been using Netbeans for my java desktop application since few months. Now in the middle of the project, I want to switch over to Eclipse as the Netbeans once corrupted my GUI and I had to re-create several parts of the GUI and now it is displaying a compiler error as code too large private void initComponents() { 1 error "code too large" is a strange error. My code which it is saying too large is just 10,000 lines long. I came to know first time that we couldn't develop long code in Netbeans :) So instead of going into detail, I want to switch to Eclipse. I have never used it before. So could please tell me how to import my incompleted Netbeans project into eclipse.

• How do I fix this JBoss EJB client authentication issue?

  I have an EJB deployed under JBoss (we're moving a project to it from Weblogic), I can get an EJBHome reference to the EJB via a JNDI lookup. The login-config.xml is set to use the module org.jboss.security.auth.spi.BaseCertLoginModule. When my client code tries to invoke the create method via reflection, calling invoke, I get an InvocationException which wraps an AccessException, which wraps a final exception of javax.security.auth.login.FailedLoginException: Password Incorrect/Password Required at org.jboss.security.auth.spi.UsernamePasswordLoginModule.login(UsernamePasswordLoginModule.java:213).... Am I missing some client code to use BaseCertLoginModule instead of UsernamePasswordLoginModule? Thanks in advance, any suggestions appreciated, apologies for not posting the entire stacktrace but it's on a secured network without internet access.

• Use of serialization in JMX calls on Websphere Appserver to avoid ClasscastException

  We are using JMX for communication between different EARs on the same Websphere application server (6.1). All works well if we only use Java types as arguments, but if we use or own the problem is that we get ClassCastExceptions on the receiver side. This is obviously a classloader problem: if the jar with the argument types is put into the JRE endorsed directory, such that all classloaders use exactly the same class, the Exception disappear. But we would much prefer to put the library that defines the argument types in the EAR itself. Now my question: is there a trick to persuade WAS to serialize and deserialize the arguments during the JMX call? I guess in this case the ClassCastException would dissappear.

• Using Glassfish libraries in proprietary software

  I would like to use some parts of Glassfish in a proprietary software that are under a CDDL + GPLv2 license. Am I allowed to do that? I haven't modified anything in the code of these libraries, so is this OK, or my software, because it uses these libraries, is still considered derivative work, and thus a big no-no? I mean, according to https://jaxb.dev.java.net/, JAXB is also under CDDL + GPLv2, but I know I can freely use that in proprietary software. Is this because CDDL + GPLv2 actually allows that, or is it distributed under a different license when bundled with the JRE?

  I'm building a Java IDE and am trying to implement autocompletion or intellisense. After looking around for something that will do most of the work for me (not reinventing the wheel etc) I've pulled the code for Eclipse JDT core and am trying to figure out how to implement it in my own IDE. I'm obviously working under the assumption that this is possible. If anyone knows a lot about Eclipse JDT Core, implementing intellisense, or other fun things that would help me accomplish my goal and would like to weigh in, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

• How to implement List, Set, and Map in null free design?

  Its great when you can return a null/empty object in most cases to avoid nulls, but what about Collection like objects? In Java, Map returns null if key in get(key) is not found in the map. The best way I can think of to avoid nulls in this situation is to return an Entry<T> object, which is either the EmptyEntry<T>, or contains the value T. Sure we avoid the null, but now you can have a class cast exception if you don't check if its an EmptyEntry<T>. Is there a better way to avoid nulls in Map's get(K)? And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null, so don't say just use nulls.

• Tomcat 5.5, Is there a max upload speed per request?

  I am having an issue when uploading files to tomcat. It seems that tomcat (or something else?) will not handle the upload as fast as I can send it. When uploading multiple files concurrently I can max out my local connection upload speed (2.1MB/s). However, when uploading only one file at a time, no matter how small or large the file, the upload will max out around 400KB/s. I have tried setting the appReadBufSize higher but it makes no difference. Is there something else that would be limiting the upload speed per request? Proxy Server: CentOS 4 Apache 2 SSL Tomcat Server: CentOS 4 Tomcat 5.5.25 (Tomcat Native Library Is Installed) Java 6 Thanks! Matt

• YouTube API Get all videos uploaded feed

  Hi Guys, I can't seem to retrieve ALL videos from a particular channel on YouTube, despite the API giving example code that should perform just that. I'm using Java. http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads The above rss feed is the URL they suggest using along with the following sample code.. /*init the list*/ String feedUrl = "http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/GoogleDevelopers/uploads"; VideoFeed videoFeeder = null; videoFeeder = serviceobject.getFeed(new URL(feedUrl), VideoFeed.class); Looping this with a for loop suggests 25 entries (as per the RSS). However - the actual number of videos uploaded is significantly larger. (662 at time of writing). My query is how on earth you retrieve everything with the API, not just a subset of the data. • Code Formatter: cleaning up horribly formatted jsp code

  So I am working on a jsp/servlet that came to me and I'm looking at the jsp file and it is just a jungle of jstl tags, java code and html thrown together. At first it looked like someone ran the standard eclipse formatter on it and had the page width set to 40 so alot of stuff is broken up, I tried to format it with a larger page width but that seemed to make it worse to the point of not being able to tell what is going on without formatting parts of it first. Anyone have any luck with any jsp/code formatter?

• How to profile the execution of an OSGi deployment?

  I'm starting the development of an OSGi bundle for an application that will be deployed in a device with some hardware limitations. I'd like to know how could I profile the execution of that bundle to be always sure that it's going to fit with its dependencies in the final device. It would be nice to have a profiler to know how much memory is each bundle using, to localize bottle necks and to compare different implementations of the same service. Is there any profiler for OSGi deployments or should I use a general Java profiler? For developing I'm using Pax runner with Apache felix to run the bundle and maven to manage project dependencies and building.

• FileNotFound exception when trying to write to a file

  OK, I'm feeling like this should be easy but am obviously missing something fundamental to file writing in Java. I have this: File someFile = new File("someDirA/someDirB/someDirC/filename.txt"); and I just want to write to the file. However, while someDirA exists, someDirB (and therefore someDirC and filename.txt) do not exist. Doing this: BufferedWriter writer = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(someFile)); throws a FileNotFoundException. Well, er, no kidding. I'm trying to create it after all. Do I need to break up the file path into components, create the directories and then create the file before instantiating the FileWriter object?

  I was looking for a platform where widgets developed using various technologies like Java can communicate with each other. In other words When I add widgets to an interface I need them to talk to each other. For example A Click event in one widget should trigger an event in some other widget. • Glassfish v3 Domain Output Log is not ending after the netbeans debug is stopped

  I would like to know if anybody is experiencing the problem on endless if log that is too long when Netbeans Debugging session is stopped? We use java logging in our web application but if I stop the debug, suddenly in the Output Glassfish v3 Domain window, there are a lot of log that is being dump. The log would last so long, that I need to click the Stop the Server because if I don't the Netbeans logger would consume too much memory that makes it too slugish later. I am not sure how long until the log stop but it last for minutes. Any ideas here?

  I have a running dynamic web project in Eclipse (Java EE + Maven + Spring). I am at the point where I need to integrate a persistence layer and want to use Hibernate with a mySql database. I am wonder what plugins would be useful for me at this point? For Hibernate should I install hibernate tools or is it not necessary? Are then any plugins that are most widely use for connecting / exploring database connections that would be appropriate for the type of project I am working on? Thanks.

• Get MAC address from Jetty HTTPServletRequest

  Hi all, Does anybody know if there is a way to get the sender's MAC address from an HTTPServletRequest in Jetty? (Note: by sender, I mean immediate sender aka the last hop before my server). If there isn't a direct way, does anybody know a way to translate an IP address to a MAC address in Java? Other note: I completely realize that MAC addresses do not leave the local subnet, and that's the intended functionality. I know this seems like an odd question, but trust me, I know what I'm doing :-) If you're curious, I'd be happy to explain why I want this. Thanks, Chris

• Using Active Objects and BLOBs

  I am in a group of people who are creating a Defect Tracking program as a project. We have been using Active Objects and have run into some issues. Currently maximum file size for the blob is approx. 2Mb but we want to be able to increase it up to 2Gb. We currently have been looking at many sites and have not been able to find out how to increase the size. We are currently storing the blob as an array of bytes. Our current error says, Packet for Query is too large? We don't know how to set the variable, and we don't know how to set it using AO. We are programming this in Java, too. We are wondering if anyone has a solution to this problem. Thanks for the Help.

  We're parsing an XML document using JAXB and get this error: [org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Invalid byte 1 of 1-byte UTF-8 sequence.] at javax.xml.bind.helpers.AbstractUnmarshallerImpl.createUnmarshalException(AbstractUnmarshallerImpl.java:315) What exactly does this mean and how can we resolve this?? We are executing the code as: jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance(Results.class); Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller(); unmarshaller.setSchema(getSchema()); results = (Results) unmarshaller.unmarshal(new FileInputStream(inputFile)); Update Issue appears to be due to this "funny" character in the XML file: ¿ Why would this cause such a problem??

I am plan to use above room types and meal types as a fuzzy sets and compare the words in webpage with above fuzzy sets using a suitable membership function. any one experienced with this??? or have an Idea for my problem??
