  • Is an editable select box the right way?

    - by Neil Middleton
I have a scenario where a user is emailing another user in an HTML based web app. For the To: field, the user may select one of a pre-defined list of emails OR enter their own ignoring the pre-defined options. What would be the best way of doing this from a UI point of view? I've looked at editable select boxes using jQuery but none seem to let you enter your own option. Is there some other UI mechanism that would work here?

  • Returning modified data to a template

    - by Duncan
I need to amend QuerySet data when i return it to a template. for example, model.objects.all() returns a date (with other fields), but i also want to return the number of days since that date has passed. This is so that in the template, i can say "you last logged in 4 days ago". What is the best way to do this?

  • Good MVC framework for AS3

    - by webwise
Do you know a decent MVC framework for AS3? I am currently looking into PureMVC but I need some reassurance that it's the best choice. Do I really need to use a framework? or would it be better for me to implement MVC myself?

  • What's the smallest DirectX installer I can distribute in my Software?

    - by John
My application uses DirectX 9.0c. There are many installers for the end-user run-times, ranging from 400Kb to 100Mb+ and obviously I don't want to bloat my installer file. However, I believe there are potentially legal restrictions which mean I can't just distribute whichever MS installers I might choose. This is the one I'd ideally like to include, is it the best /correct one?

  • Sharing DefaultHttpClient in Android. To synchronize or not to synchronize?

    - by johnrock
In an Android app, I am using one static instance of org.apache.http.impl.client.DefaultHttpClient and sharing that instance in all activities and services of the app, so that this client may be used to log in once to a remote server and all subsequent user requests to that remote server will remain authenticated. Every activity or Service that makes a GET or POST to this remote server calls the same method : MyUtilityClass.gettHttpClient() Do I need to worry about synchronization of this httpclient? If so, what is the best way to handle this?

  • Implementing In App purchases in Android?

    - by hgpc
It looks like Android won't natively support in-app purchases for a while, and when it does there might be a huge user base with devices that don't support them. What's the best way to implement iPhone-like (additional content or services) in-app purchases in Android using the Android Market if possible? The solution should consider in particular: For all kinds of in-app purchases: Android Market's 24-hour cancellation policy For consumables/non-consumables: storage of additional content (ie: use precious application memory to avoid piracy, or use SD card to avoid bloating application memory) Thanks!

  • How to initiate JavaScript Callback with MVC2 using RenderAction

    - by Zacho
I am building a dashboard where I am iterating through a list of controls to render, and I need to initiate a general callback both after each control and after they are all completed. I was curious what the best way to handle this is. I can get the control specific callback fired off by placing myUserControlCallback(); in the user control itself. I'm just not sure how to run something like allControlsRendered();. Any ideas?

  • Why does Eclipse crash with Xmx, XX:MaxPermSize above certain values?

    - by alex
Running Eclipse 3.5.1, JDK 1.6.0_17 on WinXP SP3 32Bit with 3.5 gigs of RAM. I'm aware of the known Eclipse best practices, still trying to figure out eclipse.ini. This will launch: -Xmx588m and this won't: -Xmx589m. Same with -XX:MaxPermSize. Anything above -XX:MaxPermSize=140m won't launch. The screen of death is simlar to this (taken from here). Any ideas on why might this be happening?

  • Is It Possible To Cast A Range

    - by Brad Rhoads
    I'd like to do something like this: def results = Item.findAll("from Item c, Tag b, ItemTag a where c = a.item and b = a.tag and (b.tag like :q or c.uri like :q) " + ob,[q:q]) def items = (Item) results[0..1][0] but I get Cannot cast object '[Ljava.lang.Object;@1e224a5' with class '[Ljava.lang.Object;' to class 'org.maflt.ibidem.Item' I can get what I need with this, but it doesn't seem like it's the best solution: def items = [] as Set def cnt = results.size() for (i=0;i<cnt-1;i++) { items << results[i][0] } items = items as List

  • Accessing Subversion commit data externally

    - by gaoshan88
I have need to access subversion data (commit messages, files updated, revision numbers, dates modified, author, etc.) externally. Is this something for some sort of subversion hook or is there a decent third party package for this or some other "best practice" way to approach accessing subversion data externally (and by external I mean from a php/ruby or python script... external to subversion itself)?

  • Implementing long running search in ASP.NET

    - by Gursharn Singh
I am building a search page in asp.net 3.5. Search takes a bit of time (few seconds to few minutes). Current I use AsyncMethodCaller to call Search method. AsyncMethodCaller method stores search results in Session. I user Ajax timer to check if Search method finished and then display results. What would be the best way to implement this scenario?

  • Read file as its being uploaded

    - by zaf
By default you cannot access a file that is uploaded until it has been fully transferred to the server. What is the best way to get round this and be able to access the 'byte stream' as the file upload is in progress?

  • Make dialogs compatible with "large fonts".

    - by Narcís Calvet
Which do you think are best practices for making a windows dialog compatible both with standard fonts (96 dpi) and "large fonts" setting (120 dpi) so that objects don't overlap or get cut off? BTW: Just in case it's relevant, I'm interested in doing this for Delphi dialogs. Thanks in advance!
