It was the summer of 2011 when I was finishing my Computer Engineering studies as well as my internship at Oracle when I was offered what could possibly be THE dream job for any young European Computer Engineer. Apart from that, it also seemed like the role was particularly tailored to me as I could leverage almost everything I learned at University and during the internship. And all of it in one of the best cities to live in, not only from my home country but arguably from Europe: Malaga! A day at EPC As part of the EPC Technology pillar, and later on completely focused on WebCenter, there was no way to describe a normal day on the job as each day had something unique. Some days I was researching documentation in order to elaborate accurate answers for a customer’s question within a Request for Information or Proposal (RFI/RFP), other days I was doing heavy programming in order to bring a Proof of Concept (PoC) for a customer to life and last not but least, some days I presented to the customer via webconference the demo I built for them the past weeks. So as you can see, the role has research, development and presentation, could you ask for more? Well, don’t worry because there IS more! Internationality As the organization’s name suggests, EMEA Presales Center, it is the Center of Presales within Europe, Middle East and Africa so I got the chance to work with great professionals from all this regions, expanding my network and learning things from one country to apply them to others. In addition to that, the teams based in the Malaga office are comprised of many young professionals hailing mainly from Western and Central European countries (although there are a couple of exceptions!) with very different backgrounds and personalities which guaranteed many laughs and stories during lunch or coffee breaks (or even while working on projects!). Furthermore, having EPC offices in Bucharest and Bangalore and thanks to today’s tele-presence technologies, I was working every day with people from India or Romania as if they were sitting right next to me and the bonding with them got stronger day by day. Career development Apart from the research and self-study I’ve earlier mentioned, one of the EPC’s Key Performance Indicators (KPI) is that 15% of your time is spent on training so you get lots and lots of trainings in order to develop both your technical product knowledge and your presentation, negotiation and other soft skills. Sometimes the training is via webcast, sometimes the trainer comes to the office and sometimes, the best times, you get to travel abroad in order to attend a training, which also helps you to further develop your network by meeting face to face with many people you only know from some email or instant messaging interaction. And as the months go by, your skills improving at a very fast pace, your relevance increasing with each new project you successfully deliver, it’s only a matter of time (and a bit of self-promoting!) that you get the attention of the manager of a more senior team and are offered the opportunity to take a new step in your professional career. For me it took 2 years to move to my current position, Technology Sales Consultant at the Oracle Direct organization. During those 2 years I had built a good relationship with the Oracle Direct Spanish sales and sales managers, who are also based in the Malaga office. I supported their former Sales Consultant in a couple of presentations and demos and were very happy with my overall performance and attitude so even before the position got eventually vacant, I got a heads-up from then in advance that their current Sales Consultant was going to move to a different position. To me it felt like a natural step, same as when I joined EPC, I had at least a 50% of the “homework” already done but wanted to experience that extra 50% to add new product and soft skills to my arsenal. The rest is history, I’ve been in the role for more than half a year as I’m writing this, achieved already some important wins, gained a lot of trust and confidence in front of customers and broadened my view of Oracle’s Fusion Middleware portfolio. • Sprite movement

  Hi everyone. I'm ripping my hair out over this one. For some odd reason I cannot find out / think of how to move a sprite in SFML and or SDL. The tutorials I've looked at for both libraries state nothing about this; so I assume that it's more of a C++ thing than a library thing. So I was wondering; how do you move a sprite? (When I say move, I mean have the sprite "glide" across the window at a set speed)

• tptp/profiling of web-application within eclipse - no data collectors available

  Hi, I have a problem with tptp/profiling within eclipse. Because at first I had some very strange problems, I downloaded the “TPTP all-in-one package” (tptp.runtime.allInOne.win32.win32.x86-TPTP-4.6.2.zip) and added the stuff I need (Jboss-Tools, etc.) I am using Windows XP SP3, Java 6u20, Eclipse 3.5.2.(, jboss-4.2.3.GA-jdk6) In "Profile Configurations"/Tab "Monitor" I got “IWAT0435E An error occurred when connecting to the host” and in the “Profile on Server” Window in the tab Monitor I got only “pre-JRE 1.5“ as choice. After disabling an enabling the IAC in “Preferences”/”Agent Controller” that IWAT...-problem was gone but now I don't get anything in the “Profile on Server”/”Monitor” tab, but it says “[Monitor] The launch requires at least one data collector to be selected.” any ideas?

  I've (along with many others) have noticed that Apple changed the appearance of the popover controller to use a "slider" window rather than the usual "popover" tableview that I've used. While I'm okay with the new appearance, like others I'm having issues with the swipe gesture that is introduced: iOS 5.1 swipe gesture hijacked by UISplitViewController - how to avoid? The fix for this seems to be to set the split view controller method "presentWithGesture" to "NO." UISplitViewController *splitViewController = [[UISplitViewController alloc] init]; splitViewController.presentsWithGesture = NO; This works great if the user is using iOS 5.1, however, if this code is run using iOS 5.0 or below, an exception is thrown since this method is only available for iOS 5.1: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '-[UISplitViewController setPresentsWithGesture:]: unrecognized selector Is it possible to get rid of this gesture without using this method so that it's backwards compatible with iOS' 5.0 and below?

I'm trying to get it to fire either when a user changes windows in Safari, or when they open their bookmarks or when they decide to add the page to their homescreen. But none of these are firing it. • Silverlight tests not working unless RDP connection open

  I have a few Silverlight UI tests that I'm automating with White. These tests are subsequently run by a TFS build agent, which is running interactively so it can access the desktop. The build passes if I have a Remote Desktop connection open to the build agent as the tests are run; I can see the mouse pointer moving around. When the test clicks on a HyperlinkButton navigation takes place, and is subsequently verified by assertions within the test. The build fails if I do not have a Remote Desktop connection open to the build agent as the tests are run. The Internet Explorer window is created and the Silverlight app loads, but no clicks happen; the application remains on the initial page and test assertions subsequently fail. Has anyone out there found a solution to this problem?

  In converting this CONSOLE example to a full windows dialog implementation I have run into a very "simple problem". SendMessage() (line 283) is returning zero, GetLastError reveals 0x578 - Invalid window handle. http://read.pudn.com/downloads51/sourcecode/windows/multimedia/175678/msgapitest.cpp__.htm (https://developer.skype.com/Download/Sample...example_win.zip) C++ 2005 Studio express edition instructions http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=54549 The previous call using HWND_BROADCAST works and Skype replies as expected, so I know Skype is installed and working properly. The handle I use is the wParam value from the Skype Reply message, as in the code. This is non zero, but I am not sure if there is a way to test it other than with SendMessage. The compiled app from this C++ code example (see zip download) does actually work so I am stumped. I do encode the message with UTF8, and I create an instance of the COPYDATASTRUCT in my app, populate it then call SendMessage() with the COPYDATASTRUCT pointer in lparam. Skype does not respond nor does it obey. Am I missing something obvious here?

  Hey. I'm trying to use a UIWebView for displaying content higher than the screen of the iPhone, without needing to scroll in the webView itself. For that, I need a way to get the total document size, including the scrollable area. • Simple way to implement computer-go board in Java

  I want to make a simple Go board to design an Computer Go game. In a go game, you lie a "stone" (white or black) on a position where horizontal and vertical lines intersect. What are some simple ways to restrict users from placing their stones in other locations? Maybe I'm just not seeing a simple solution. EDIT I guess I should rephrase my question better: I want to know how to do the background image of Go board, so that I can lie my stones on the intersection of the horizontal and the vertical lines. I was thinking about getting a just regular Go board image, and when I'm actually rendering stones, I find right position of pixels to lie stones. However, that solution did not seem to be the best solution, since I need to worry about size of stone images and think about proportionality when I either expand or shrink the board window.

• Html.RenderAction Failed when Validation Failed

  RenderAction method had been introduced when ASP.NET MVC 1.0 released in its MvcFuture assembly and then final announced along with the ASP.NET MVC 2.0. Similar as RenderPartial, the RenderAction can display some HTML markups which defined in a partial view in any parent views. But the RenderAction gives us the ability to populate the data from an action which may different from the action which populating the main view. For example, in Home/Index.aspx we can invoke the Html.RenderPartial(“MyPartialView”) but the data of MyPartialView must be populated by the Index action of the Home controller. If we need the MyPartialView to be shown in Product/Create.aspx we have to copy (or invoke) the relevant code from the Index action in Home controller to the Create action in the Product controller which is painful. But if we are using Html.RenderAction we can tell the ASP.NET MVC from which action/controller the data should be populated. in that way in the Home/Index.aspx and Product/Create.aspx views we just need to call Html.RenderAction(“CreateMyPartialView”, “MyPartialView”) so it will invoke the CreateMyPartialView action in MyPartialView controller regardless from which main view. But in my current project we found a bug when I implement a RenderAction method in the master page to show something that need to connect to the backend data center when the validation logic was failed on some pages. I created a sample application below.   Demo application I created an ASP.NET MVC 2 application and here I need to display the current date and time on the master page. I created an action in the Home controller named TimeSlot and stored the current date into ViewDate. This method was marked as HttpGet as it just retrieves some data instead of changing anything. 1: [HttpGet] 2: public ActionResult TimeSlot() 3: { 4: ViewData["timeslot"] = DateTime.Now; 5: return View("TimeSlot"); 6: } Next, I created a partial view under the Shared folder to display the date and time string. 1: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<dynamic>" %> 2:  3: <span>Now: <% 1: : ViewData["timeslot"].ToString() %></span> Then at the master page I used Html.RenderAction to display it in front of the logon link. 1: <div id="logindisplay"> 2: <% 1: Html.RenderAction("TimeSlot", "Home"); %> 3:  4: <% 1: Html.RenderPartial("LogOnUserControl"); %> 5: </div> It’s fairly simple and works well when I navigated to any pages. But when I moved to the logon page and click the LogOn button without input anything in username and password the validation failed and my website crashed with the beautiful yellow page. (I really like its color style and fonts…)   How ASP.NET MVC executes Html.RenderAction In this example all other pages were rendered successful which means the ASP.NET MVC found the TimeSolt action under the Home controller except this situation. The only different is that when I clicked the LogOn button the browser send an HttpPost request to the server. Is that the reason of this bug? I created another action in Home controller with the same action name but for HttpPost. 1: [HttpPost] 2: [ActionName("TimeSlot")] 3: public ActionResult TimeSlot(object dummy) 4: { 5: return TimeSlot(); 6: } Or, I can use the AcceptVerbsAttribute on the TimeSlot action to let it allow both HttpGet and HttpPost. 1: [AcceptVerbs("GET", "POST")] 2: public ActionResult TimeSlot() 3: { 4: ViewData["timeslot"] = DateTime.Now; 5: return View("TimeSlot"); 6: } And then repeat what I did before and this time it worked well. Why we need the action for HttpPost here as it’s just data retrieving? That is because of how ASP.NET MVC executes the RenderAction method. In the source code of ASP.NET MVC we can see when proforming the RenderAction ASP.NET MVC creates a RequestContext instance from the current RequestContext and created a ChildActionMvcHandler instance which inherits from MvcHandler class. Then the ASP.NET MVC processes the handler through the HttpContext.Server.Execute method. That means it performs the action as a stand-alone request asynchronously and flush the result into the  TextWriter which is being used to render the current page. Since when I clicked the LogOn the request was in HttpPost so when ASP.NET MVC processed the ChildActionMvcHandler it would find the action which allow the current request method, which is HttpPost. Then our TimeSlot method in HttpGet would not be matched.   Summary In this post I introduced a bug in my currently developing project regards the new Html.RenderAction method provided within ASP.NET MVC 2 when processing a HttpPost request. In ASP.NET MVC world the underlying Http information became more important than in ASP.NET WebForm world. • Back button loop with IFRAMES

  In my (school) website we use Iframes to display class blogs (on blogger). This works well EXCEPT if the user then clicks on (say) a photo inside the iframe. Blogger (in this case) then displays the photo in the whole browser window and the back button loops; that is if the back button is hit, the browser (IE, FF, Chrome) stays on the same page. The only way out is for the user to jump back two pages (which many of our users don't know how to do). I've read a lot of posts on back buttons and iframes and there doesn't appear to be a simple solution. Bear in mind that I don't have control over the iframe content (so no embedded back buttons in the frame are possible). Ideas anyone?

• adding an existing implementation file to an xcode project won't work

  As I write most of my code using MacVIM, I need to add the new files to the XCode project in order to compile them into the executable. Today however I encoutered an implementation file (.m) wich XCode won't allow to be added. It appears light gray the appropriate finder window as if it were already included in the project, but when I try to build, I get a linker error, stating that the symbol defined this implementation file could not be found. The corresponding header file could be added without problems. Any idea what could have caused this problem? Btw. I deleted a former version of the same file from the "Classes" tree before, as well as many others wich were successfully re-added. Thanks in advance.

• Show underlying applications mouse cursor when hovering over visible section of my application.

  I am writing a WPF application that allows the user to draw over the entire screen when the right mouse button is held down. I use a full screen transparent overlay form to achieve this, however, as I draw lines with the mouse, what's happening is that the portion of my window that contains the line is becoming visible (as expected). The undesired effect of this is that if the line is over a part of another application such as a textbox, or hyperlink, this changes the cursor back to the default cursor my my app (arrow), instead of the other applications desired cursor (IBeam). I want my overlay to be seamless to the user, and just show their drawing path, rather than have any interaction with the mouse cursor. See my example below:

  Hello guys, question on dock panels within gwt So i want the dockpanel to take up the whole size of the browser window dockPanel.setSize("100%", "100%"); if this correct Next Question, i am going to add a north panel , that will be 100px high and take up the whole width of the browser topPanel.setSize("100%", "100px"); dockPanel.add(topPanel, DockPanel.NORTH); is this correct, then i want to add a west panel that is 200px wide and the whole length of the browser up to just under the north panel westSideStackPanel.setSize("200px","100%") mainPanel.add(westSideStackPanel,DockPanel.WEST); i have created all this but when i look at my dockpanel there is a big gap between the west panel and the north panel the whole way accross the screen. why would this be? The north panel stays at 100px, and then there is a gap of about 100px high the whole width of the screen.

• VBA: Read file from clipboard

  I'm trying to load a file in a VBA macro that has been copied from, say, an Explorer window. I can easily get the data from the clipboard using DataObject::GetFromClipboard, but the VBA interface to DataObject doesn't seem to have methods for working with any other formats than plain text. There are only GetText and SetText methods. If I can't get a file stream directly from the DataObject, the filename(s) would also do, so maybe GetText could be forced to return the name of a file placed on the clipboard? There is very little documentation to be found for VBA anywhere. :( Maybe someone could point me to an API wrapper class for VBA that has this sort of functionality?

• VIM: Close file without quiting VIM application?

  I am new to VIM. I use e and w commands to edit and to write a file. It is very convenient. I am not sure if there is "close" command to close the current file without leaving VIM? I know that q command can be used to close a file. But if it is the last file, the VIM is closed as well(actually on Mac the MacVIM does quit. Only the VIM window is closed and I could use Control-N to open a blank VIM again). I would like the VIM to stay with a blank screen.

  Hello, it may pre very simple, but cannot find it: I have three windows in three separate NIBs in my application. One is opened when a new document is opened, the other two can be opened from the program's window menu. The problem is: two windows (in them the one that is opened at the beginning) accepts the normal keystroke as for example command-s for save, and the other one does not and gives a warning sound instead. I cannot figure out the difference between the two windows or their controllers. I know it will have to do with the responder chain, but I am left clueless. Any ideas? Thanks, wackazong

• Trouble with onscreen keyboard orientation in iPhone OpenGL ES application.

  I need to take keyboard input in my OpenGL ES application, so I just created an empty UITextView and added it as a subview to the main window along with the view that presents my content. I use the UITextview to control the keyboard and it works fine in a single orientation. I then changed my code to support all orientations by rotating the OpenGL content myself based on UIDeviceOrientation notifications. To rotate the keyboard, I overrode the shouldAutoRotateInterfaceOrientation method in the UITextView's controller. But I still see that the keyboard does not rotate according to the orientation. Any clues?

  I created a simple tab control that has 2 tabs (each tab is a different dialog). The thing is that i don't have any idea how to switch between tabs (when the user presses Titlu Tab1 to show the dialog i made for the first tab, and when it presses Titlu Tab2 to show my other dialog). I added a handler for changing items, but i don't know how should i acces some kind of index or child for tabs.
