    Hello How can I measure programicaly (not query the OS, but measure) the size and order of associativity of L1 and L2 caches (data caches)? Assumtions about system: It has L1 and L2 cache (may be L3 too, may be cache sharing), It may have a hardware prefetch unit (just like P4+), it has a stable clocksource (tickcounter or good HPET for gettimeofday). There are no assumtions about OS (it can be Linux, Windows, smth non-standart), and we can't use posix queries. Language is C. And Compiler optimizations may be disabled.

  • How to submit the form using JQuery UI?

    I have a form in html with a default submit button. After the form is submitted, a php file is run (with action = homelocation). I decided to use JQuery UI dialog to display the form. I have 2 default buttons there - one to save and one to close the dialog. Can anyone tell me how to assign the form submit button action to the JQuery dialog button(i.e. replace the submit button from the form with the one in the dialog)?   • SharePoint Designer Workflow: Unruly 'Collect User Data' Action

    I'm a student in a SharePoint class online. This problem has riddled everyone I've discussed it with, including the teacher. There seems to be some sort of problem when I create a workflow with the collect data action. I can create workflows that send e-mails and use the other actions just fine. What could be causing this problem? My reproduction steps are simple: Create a new Site Collection with the Blank Site template. Create a new Custom List. In SharePoint Designer, start a new workflow on the Custom List. Add the collect data action to the workflow. Set the user to the one that created the task. Set the data to anything. A single check box, a string, Choice, doesn't matter. Leave the output variable as default. Mystery error appears! When the Check Workflow button is pressed, nothing happens. No message box appears at all. The warning icon in the Steps panel merely points out that there are some errors, it isn't specific as to what they are. Additionally, when I click on the data object again after it's been created, it doesn't populate the form with the old values. It goes back to the default name with no fields. So there's definitely something going wrong here. I've narrowed the problem down to the data object, but I don't know what to do about it. The workflow acts like normal for other activities. For example, delete the Collect Data action and add a Send Email one instead and it compiles and runs successfully.

  • ASP.NET MVC Page - Dropdown control doesn't function with Keyboard Arrow Keys

    Hi I have a page that has a Dropdown control (ddlDeliveryMethod). So that when the user selects particular option from the Dropdown(using MOUSE), the respective Div ID's are loaded. But instead of Mouse, if we simply use the arrow keys from Keyboard, the respective DIV ID's are not showing. Is there any workaround for this. Appreciate your responses.   • Eclipselink update existing tables

    Maybe I got it wrong but i though that JPA was able to update an existing table (model changed adding a column) but is not working in my case. I can see in the logs eclipselink attempting to create it but failing because it already exists. Instead of trying an update to add the column it keeps going. I've tried it with a function and it corresponds in crazy ways. The language is PHP by the way. Does anyone know what the definition of this operator is, I can't even find it in the declaration of php operators.

  • OO Design / Patterns - Fat Model Vs Transaction Script?

    Ok, 'Fat' Model and Transaction Script both solve design problems associated with where to keep business logic. I've done some research and popular thought says having all business logic encapsulated within the model is the way to go (mainly since Transaction Script can become really complex and often results in code duplication). However, how does this work if I want to use the TDG of a second Model in my business logic? Surely Transaction Script presents a neater, less coupled solution than using one Model inside the business logic of another? A practical example... I have two classes: User & Alert. When pushing User instances to the database (eg, creating new user accounts), there is a business rule that requires inserting some default Alerts records too (eg, a default 'welcome to the system' message etc). I see two options here: 1) Add this rule as a User method, and in the process create a dependency between User and Alert (or, at least, Alert's Table Data Gateway). 2) Use a Transaction Script, which avoids the dependency between models. (Also, means the business logic is kept in a 'neutral' class & easily accessible by Alert. That probably isn't too important here, though). User takes responsibility for it's own validation etc, however, but because we're talking about a business rule involving two Models, Transaction Script seems like a better choice to me. Anyone spot flaws with this approach?

  • Is there a faster alternative to using textures in XNA?

    I am writing a map editing program for a 2D game using XNA. To create a Texture2D for all of the tiles that a map requires takes too long. Are there any alternatives to using textures for drawing with XNA? I attempted to create just one texture per tile set instead of a texture for every tile in a tile set, but there is a limit to the size of textures and I could not fit all the tiles of a tile set into one texture. Currently the program contains all the would-be textures in memory as Bitmap objects. Is there a way to simply draw a Bitmap object to the screen in XNA? I have searched but I cannot find any information on this. This approach would avoid having to create textures altogether, however any tinting or effects I would have to do to the bitmap directly. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

  • How do I implement page authorizaton in ASP.NET using a SQL store instead of web.config?

    For instance, the way we're doing it now is like thus: (in the web.config) <location path="somePath"> <system.web> <authorization> <allow roles="approvedRoles"/> <deny users="*"/> </authorization> </system.web> </location> And what I would like to do instead is to store this information in SQL somewhere so that we can manipulate the information more easily. But we want to keep the same functionality that having the information in web.config provides, just like we can use a SqlRoleProvider instead of hardcoding roles in the app. So in other words, if a user currently tries to goto "somePath" and they're not a member of "approvedRoles" then they get redirected back to default.aspx, and if they are a member of "approvedRoles" then they get the page. I want to do the same thing, but without using web.config as the authorization mechanism. So what I'm NOT asking is how do I go about defining roles, or how do I handle logging in to the database, but specifically how do I store the above information in SQL instead of web.config. Actually, I'll take "anywhere but web.config" for now. Any ideas? Is this possible using a "Provider" class? I'm just looking for pointers on what to inherit and maybe some technet documentation. In this regard my googlefoo is lacking since I don't really know where to point. Am I really only looking for AzMan? Is this location-authorization-via-SQL already defined in the default aspnetdb somewhere and I'm missing it? For that matter, has this question already been asked on SO and I've missed it? What would you google?

  • Best practice for installing python modules from an arbitrary VCS repository

    I'm newish to the python ecosystem, and have a question about module editing. I use a bunch of third-party modules, distributed on PyPi. Coming from a C and Java background, I love the ease of easy_install <whatever>. This is a new, wonderful world, but the model breaks down when I want to edit the newly installed module for two reasons: The egg files may be stored in a folder or archive somewhere crazy on the file system. Using an egg seems to preclude using the version control system of the originating project, just as using a debian package precludes development from an originating VCS repository. What is the best practice for installing modules from an arbitrary VCS repository? I want to be able to continue to import foomodule in other scripts.

  • How can I change the text in a <span></span> element using jQuery?

    I have a span element as follows: <span id="download">Download</span>. This element is controlled by a few radio buttons. Basically, what I want to do is have 1 button to download the item selected by the radio buttons, but am looking to make it a little more "flashy" by changing the text inside the <span> to say more specifically what they are downloading.     I have a Visual C++ application that communicates with an ASP.NET web service via ATL Soap. The client application uses an sproxy-generated proxy class for the communication. Looking at the generated proxy class, I noticed that the url for the web service is hard-coded in numerous places. It would be preferable for the url to be configurable at run-time (e.g. stored in a config file). Could anyone recommend a method for doing this? It doesn't look like the class generated by sproxy is amenable to hand-editing.

    We need to be able to create a dBase database (.dbf file) containing numeric columns with specific width and precision. I seem to be able to set the precision but not the width. The following code shows my connection string and my command text. using (OleDbConnection oConnection = new OleDbConnection(String.Format("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source = {0};Extended Properties=dBase 5.0", msPath))) { .... oCommand.CommandText = "CREATE TABLE [Field] ([Id] Numeric (15, 3))"; oCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); } This gives me a column Id,20,3 in the file. There must be a way to set the field width without resorting to editing the .dbf file manually? Has nobody else come across this before when creating shapefiles?
