  • RubyCocoa, what's the point?

    - by totocaster
I was wondering what's the point of using Ruby (or even Python) in Cocoa application development other that not learning Objective-C (which is pretty simple language and will not take to more than few days to learn). I'm new to this and I'm interested why people do this? What are Pros and Cons.

  • GUI to include a `.props` file to a VS 2010 project?

    - by jwfearn
Visual Studio 2010 has no longer uses .vsprops files and instead uses .props files. To add a .vsprops file to a Visual Studio 2008 project, one could right-click the project icon in the Solution Explorer panel, choose Properties, go to the Configuration Properties | General section, and modify the Inherited Project Property Sheets property to contain a list of .vsprops paths. One could also modify the Visual Studio 2008 project file directly. Is there a way in the Visual Studio 2010 GUI to add .props files to a project? The Inherited Project Property Sheets property seems to have been removed. If manual editing of the project file is the only way to include .props files, where can one find documentation on doing it?

  • 'javadoc' look-a-like, using parser generator?

    - by wvd
Hello all, I'm going to create a javadoc look-a-like for the language I'm mainly using, but I was wondering - is it worth to use a parser generator for this? The main idea to use a parser generator was because I could use templates for the HTML code which could be exported then. Also I could also use PDF templates if I need it. Thanks, William v. Doorn

  • Silverlight RIA Services - how to do Windows Authentication?

    - by Gustavo Cavalcanti
I am building my first Silverlight 3 + RI Services application and need some help. It will be deployed in an controlled corporate intranet, 100% windows clients. I have started from the Silverlight Business Application template. These are my requirements: Upon launch the application needs to recognize the currently logged-in user. The application needs to have access to other properties of the user in AD, such as email, full name, and group membership. Group membership is used to grand certain features in the application. A "login as a different user" link is to be always available - Some machines are available throughout the enterprise, logged-in as a certain generic user (verified by the absence of certain membership groups). In this case one can enter credentials and log in (impersonate) to the application as a user different from the one already logged-into the machine. This user is to be used in service calls I have modified the following in the default Business Application template: App.xaml: appsvc:WindowsAuthentication instead of the default FormsAuthentication Web.config: authentication mode="Windows" With these modifications I resolve requirement #1 (get the currently logged-in user). But when I examine RiaContext.Current.User, I don't have access to other properties from AD, such as group memberships. How can I achieve my other requirements? Thanks for your help.

  • How do I relate tables with different foreign key names in Kohana ORM?

    - by Matt H
    I'm building a Kohaha application to manage sip lines in asterisk. I'm wanting to use ORM but I'm wondering how do relate certain tables that are already well established. e.g. the table sip_lines looks like this. +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+-------------------+-----------------------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+-------------------+-----------------------------+ | id | int(10) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | sip_name | varchar(80) | NO | UNI | NULL | | | displayname | varchar(48) | NO | | NULL | | | line_num | varchar(10) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | model | varchar(12) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | mac | varchar(16) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | areacode | varchar(6) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | per_line_astpp_acc | tinyint(1) | NO | | 0 | | | play_warning | tinyint(1) | NO | | 0 | | | callout_disabled | tinyint(1) | NO | | 0 | | | notes | varchar(80) | NO | | NULL | | | last_update | timestamp | NO | | CURRENT_TIMESTAMP | on update CURRENT_TIMESTAMP | +--------------------+------------------+------+-----+-------------------+-----------------------------+ sip_buddies is this: +----------------+------------------------------+------+-----+-----------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------------+------------------------------+------+-----+-----------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(80) | NO | UNI | | | | host | varchar(31) | NO | | | | | | | lastms | int(11) | NO | | 0 *** snip *** +----------------+------------------------------+------+-----+-----------+----------------+ The two tables are actually related as sip_lines.sip_name = sip_buddies.name How do I relate them in Kohana ORM as this wouldn't be quite right would it? <?php defined('SYSPATH') or die('No direct script access.'); /* A model for all the account information */ class Sip_Line_Model extends ORM { protected $has_one = array("sip_buddies"); } ?> EDIT: Actually, it'd be fair to say that these tables are not properly related with foreign keys! doh. EDIT: Looks like Kohana ORM is not that flexible. ORM is probably not the way to go and works best for completely new projects where the data model can be altered. The reason being that the key names must follow a specific naming convention or else they won't relate in Kohana.

  • Multithreaded Haskell

    - by Ingdas
Hi I'm learning Haskell and I'd like to write some multithreaded programs now to see the performance gains from that in a functional language. I can find some references to it on the internet but never a proper introduction to it. Can anyone point me to a guide which is understandable for someone who knows the syntax fairly well, but is not a wizard in Haskell?

  • IE6 PNG-transparency CSS hack not working

    - by John
I looked around and decided to use a CSS approach rather than rely on JS... I figure the kind of corporate users stuck with IE6 might also have JS disabled by IT departments. So In my HTML I have: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> <title>My Page</title> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="default.css" /> <!--[if IE 6]><link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="ie6.css"><![endif]--> </head> <body> <img src="media/logo.png"/> </body> Then my ie6.css consists simply of: img { filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(...); } However none of this makes the slightest difference, no transparency. I commented out all the rest of the page so it is literally that one and still no luck. I removed the default.css stylesheet and still no difference.

  • How can ported code be detected?

    - by NiallJG
If you port code over from one language to another, how can this be detected? Say you were porting code from c++ to Java, how could you tell? What would be the difference between a program designed and implemented in Java, and a near identical program ported over to Java?

  • Can I write for .Net 4 using VS2008?

    - by chillitom
Can I write code against .Net 4 and its libraries using VS2008? If so how should I configure it? I realise that VS2008 will probably struggle with language changes such as the dynamic keyword but can I install the version 4 and target it anyway? My only real interest is in being able to use some of the new libraries, in particular I'm interested in the TPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_Extensions)

  • Corporate Wiki Organization - Technical Documentation

    - by Dave Jarvis
Corporations have documents describing various aspects of their technical systems, including: Custom Applications Custom Development Frameworks Third Party Applications Accounting Bug Tracking Network Management How To Guides User Manuals Software Tools Web Browsers Development IDEs Graphics GIMP xv Text Editing File Transfer ncFTP WinSCP Hardware Servers Web Database Exchange File Network Devices Printers What other items are missing from the list, and how would you organize it? (For example, would Software Tools make more sense under Third Party Applications?) Try to think about where you, a software developer, would expect to find the information by browsing (not searching). A few constraints: The structure should not go beyond three levels deep. Avoid the word "and" in favour of two different categories. Keep the structure general: it should appy as broadly as possible. Target audience is primarily technical.

  • Retactoring advanced has_many example

    - by atmorell
Hello, My user model has three relations for the same message model, and is using raw SQL :/ Is there a better more rails way to achieve the same result? Could the foreign key be changed dynamically? e.g User.messages.sent (foreign key = author_id) and User.messages.received (foreign key = recipient ) I have been trying to move some of the logic into scopes in the message model, but the user.id is not available from the message model... Any thoughts? Table layout: create_table "messages", :force => true do |t| t.string "subject" t.text "body" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" t.integer "author_id" t.integer "recipient_id" t.boolean "author_deleted", :default => false t.boolean "recipient_deleted", :default => false end This is my relations for my user model: has_many :messages_received, :foreign_key => "recipient_id", :class_name => "Message", :conditions => ['recipient_deleted = ?', false] has_many :messages_sent, :foreign_key => "author_id", :class_name => "Message", :conditions => ['author_deleted = ?', false] has_many :messages_deleted, :class_name => "Message", :finder_sql => 'SELECT * FROM Messages WHERE author_id = #{self.id} AND author_deleted = true OR recipient_id = #{self.id} AND recipient_deleted = true' Best regards. • Windows 7 DWM weirdness

    - by Max
I'm looking to write a FOSS "Alt+Tab" replacement (window switcher) for Windows, since there are a few features I feel it's (still) lacking; but I'm noticing two quirks I can't seem to fix: #1. (Somewhat Unrelated) In the default Windows 7 window switcher, one computer allows left clicking on a thumbnail to focus the window; however on another, similarly specced computer, I have to use a right click. The only difference between these two fresh installs is the theme. Any ideas? #2. (Directly Related) In both the default Windows 7 window switcher and the DWM API output, minimized windows often have no thumbnail, and instead show only the taskbar. This has been a long running problem with the Windows API, and in the past I've seen the popular recommendation being "restore (un-minimize) the window, take a screenshot, then re-minimize" - but this is sloppy and causes flickering, etc. Has anyone done this successfully using the newer DWM API? If sharing code, I'd prefer C# syntax, but VB.NET will do as well. Thanks!

  • Using Mod-Rewrite in XAMPP

    - by rrrfusco
I've followed some tutorials on how to use Mod_Rewrite, but it's not working out. I have a php index page that takes a page parameter like so: call: index?page=name1, name2, name3 etc. <?php if (isset($_GET['page'])) { switch($_GET['page']) { case 'front': include "front.php"; break; default: break; } } ? I'd like to run mod-rewrite so that the urls display as site.com/name1. Is this possible with the code i'm using above? Below is what I've been trying in the apache config files to no avail. apache/conf/http.conf line 122: LoadModule rewrite_module modules/mod_rewrite.so line 188: DocumentRoot "G:/xampp/htdocs" line 198: #default <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order deny, allow Deny from all </Directory> line 215: <Directory "G:/xampp/htdocs"> line 228: Options Indexes FollowSymLinks Includes ExecCGI line 235: AllowOverride All # cgi line 355: <Directory "G:/xampp/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> G:\xampp\apache\conf\extra\http.v-hosts.conf <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot G:/xampp/htdocs/ ServerName localhost ServerAdmin admin@localhost <Directory "G:/xampp/htdocs/localhost/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride FileInfo Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot G:/xampp/htdocs/site2/ ServerName site2.localhost ServerAdmin [email protected] <Directory "G:/xampp/htdocs/site2.localhost/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride FileInfo Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> .htaccess file IndexIgnore * RewriteEngine on RewriteRule ^([^/\.]+)/?$ /index.php?page=$1 [L]

  • T-SQL Table Joins - Unique Situation

    - by Dimitri
Hello Everyone. This is my first time encountering the case like this and don't quite know how to handle. Situation: I have one table tblSettingsDefinition, with fields: ID, GroupID, Name, typeID, DefaultValue. Then I have tblSettingtypes with fields TypeID, Name. And I have final table, tblUserSettings with fields SettingID, SettingDefinitionID, UserID, Value. The whole point of this is to have customizable settings. Setting can be defined for a Group or as global setting (if GroupID is NULL). It will have a default value, but if user modifies the setting, an entry is added to tblUserSettings that stores new value. I want to have a query that grabs user settings by first looking at the tblUserSettings, and if it has records for the given user, grabs them, if not retrieves default settings. But the trick is that no matter if user has settings or not, I need to have fields from other two table retrieved to know the setting's Type, Name etc... (which are stored in those other tables). I'm writing query something like this: SELECT * FROM tblSettingDefinition SD LEFT JOIN tblUserSettings US ON SD.SettingID = US.SettingDefinitionID JOIN tblSettingTypes ST ON SD.TypeID=ST.ID WHERE US.UserID=@UserID OR ((SD.GroupID IS NULL) OR (SD.GroupID=(SELECT GroupID FROM tblUser WHERE ID=@UserID))) but it retrieves settings for all users from tblUserSettings instead of just ones that match current @UserID. And if @UserID has no records in tblUserSettings, still, all user settings are retrieved instead of the defaults from tblSettingDefinition. Hope I made myself clear. Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Naming Suggestions For A Function Providing Method Chaining In A Different Way

    - by sid3k
I've coded an experimental function which makes passed objects chainable by using high order functions. It's name is "chain" for now, and here is a usage example; chain("Hello World") (print) // evaluates print function by passing "Hello World" object. (console.log,"Optional","Parameters") (returnfrom) // returns "Hello World" It looks lispy but behaves very different since it's coded in a C based language, I don't know if there is a name for this idiom and I couldn't any name more suitable than "chain". Any ideas, suggestions?

  • Why does using ASP.NET OutputCache keep returning a 200 OK, not a 304 Not Modified?

    - by Pure.Krome
    Hi folks, i have a simple aspx page. Here's the top of it:- <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="Foo.aspx.cs" Inherits="Foo" %> <%@ OutputCache Duration="3600" VaryByParam="none" Location="Any" %> Now, every time I hit the page in FireFox (either hit F5 or hit enter in the url bar) I keep getting a 200 OK response. Here's a sample reply from FireBug :- Request Headers:- GET /sitemap.xml HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost.foo.com.au User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6 Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-au,en-gb;q=0.7,en;q=0.3 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 115 Connection: keep-alive Cookie: <snipped> If-Modified-Since: Tue, 01 Jun 2010 07:35:17 GMT If-None-Match: "" Cache-Control: max-age=0 Response Headers:- HTTP/1.1 200 OK Cache-Control: public Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 Expires: Tue, 01 Jun 2010 08:35:17 GMT Last-Modified: Tue, 01 Jun 2010 07:35:17 GMT Etag: "" Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.5 X-Powered-By: UrlRewriter.NET 2.0.0 X-AspNet-Version: 4.0.30319 Date: Tue, 01 Jun 2010 07:35:20 GMT Content-Length: 775 Firebug Cache tab:- Last Modified Tue Jun 01 2010 17:35:20 GMT+1000 (AUS Eastern Standard Time) Last Fetched Tue Jun 01 2010 17:35:20 GMT+1000 (AUS Eastern Standard Time) Expires Tue Jun 01 2010 18:35:17 GMT+1000 (AUS Eastern Standard Time) Data Size 775 Fetch Count 105 Device disk Now, if i try it in Fiddler using the Request Builder (and no extra data) I also keep getting the same 200 OK reply. • Is there any working implementation of reverse mode automatic differentiation for Haskell?

    - by Ian Fiske
The closest-related implementation in Haskell I have seen is the forward mode at http://hackage.haskell.org/packages/archive/fad/1.0/doc/html/Numeric-FAD.html. The closest related related research appears to be reverse mode for another functional language related to Scheme at http://www.bcl.hamilton.ie/~qobi/stalingrad/. I see reverse mode in Haskell as kind of a holy grail for a lot of tasks, with the hopes that it could use Haskell's nested data parallelism to gain a nice speedup in heavy numerical optimization.

  • Getting the median of 3 values using scheme's

    - by kristian Roger
The problem this time is to get the median of three values (easy) I did this: (define (med x y z) (car(cdr(x y z))) and it was accepted but when testing it: (med 3 4 5) I get this error: Error: attempt to call a non-procedure (2 3 4) And when entering letters instead of number i get: (md x y z) Error: undefined varia y (package user) Using something besides x y z I get: (md d l m) Error: undefined variable d (package user) the question was deleted dont know how anyway write a function that return the median of 3 values Sorry for editing the question I got that I should put the values in order first not just a sill car and cdr thing so I did so 33> (define (med x y z) (if(and( (<x y) (<y z) y if(and( (<y x) (<x z) x z))))) Warning: invalid expression (if (and< (<x y) (<y z) y if (and ((<y x) (<x z) x z)))) but as u see Im getting a warning so what is wronge ?

  • what is the difference between declarative and imperative programming

    - by Brad
I have been searching the web looking for a definition for declarative and imperative programming that would shed some light for me. However the language used at some of the resources that I have found is daunting - for instance at wikipedia. Does any one have a real world example that they could show me that might bring some perspective to this subject...perhaps in c# thanks

  • Need help to create database schema for wholesale online tee store

    - by techiepark
Hi, I'm currently working on wholesale online t-shirt shop. I have done this for fixed quantity and price, and its working fine. Now i need to do this for variable quantity and price. Here is the reference link, like what i have to do. Basic tables i have created are - CREATE TABLE attribute ( attribute_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, name varchar(100) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (attribute_id) ); CREATE TABLE attribute_value ( attribute_value_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, attribute_id int(11) NOT NULL, value varchar(100) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (attribute_value_id), KEY idx_attribute_value_attribute_id (attribute_id) ); CREATE TABLE product ( product_id int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, name varchar(100) NOT NULL, description varchar(1000) NOT NULL, price decimal(10,2) NOT NULL, image varchar(150) default NULL, thumbnail varchar(150) default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (product_id), FULLTEXT KEY idx_ft_product_name_description (name, description) ); CREATE TABLE product_attribute ( product_id int(11) NOT NULL, attribute_value_id int(11) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (product_id,attribute_value_id) ); I'm not getting how to store the price based on variable quantity. Please help me to create product and its related tables. my requirement is same as above reference link.
