• File.Copy with opened stream not crashing. Know why?

  I have this code, I open a stream (without closing or disposing it), then I copy the file used by the stream, I thought I should get a "Process can't access file somefile.xml because it's being used by another process" exception, but I don't. Any idea why? Thanks! • Avoid stuck calling callback

  Hello all, This is a question about generic c++ event driven applications design. Lets assume that we have two threads, a "Dispatcher" (or "Engine"...) and a "Listener" (or "Client"...). Let's assume that I write the Dispatcher code, and release it as a library. I also write the Listener interface, of course. When the Dispatcher executes (after Listener registration) listenerInstance.onSomeEvent(); the event handling code will actually be executed by the Dispatcher thread, so if the person that implements the Listener writes something like void Listener::onSomeEvent() { while(true) ; } The Dispatcher will stuck forever. Is there a "plain old c++" (I mean no boost or libsigc++) way to "decouple" the two classes, so I can be sure that my Dispatcher will work fine whatever the Listeners does in the callbacks? bye and thanks in advance, Andrea

• Accessing children of loaded swf in Flex Image component

  I am loading an external swf into an component. It loads everything fine and I can see buttons working in the swf, but I can't seem to figure out how to add children to this swf from the core mxml file. I have tried tracing out all the children of the image component but can't find where or how to do this. This is the image component: <Image id="image" mask="{ maskCanvas }" source="{ _source }" mouseDown="image.startDrag()" visible="{ _source != null &amp;&amp; image.percentLoaded == 100 }" showEffect="{ fadeInEffect }" complete="imageComplete()" doubleClickEnabled="true" doubleClick="onDoubleClick()" /> And in my AS, I am trying to do something like this: myComponent.image.addChild("myMC"); But i either don;t see the clip or there I get an error about not being able to add the child to a ui component.

• Do I really have to call Focus in OnMouseDown of my custom Control?

  I'm implementing a custom control that inherits from Control. I want it to be focusable (it's a kind of list box). In the constructor, I do SetStyle(ControlStyles.Selectable, true); I can now use Tab to navigate to the control. However, when the control receives a mouse click, it does not automatically claim focus. I can work around this, of course: protected override void OnMouseDown(MouseEventArgs e) { Focus(); base.OnMouseDown(e); } But this feels like a kludge that should not be necessary. Is this really the way to go? Or is there some way to tell Control to claim focus automatically when it receives a mouse click?

  I was wondering if it would be possible to have a define which changes values at some point in the code be used in a conditional. Basically something like this: //////////////////////////////////////////// SomeFile.cpp #define SHUTDOWN false while(window->isOpen()) { if(SHUTDOWN) window->close(); // Rest of the main loop } //////////////////////////////////////////// SomeOtherFile.cpp if(Escape.isPressed()) { #undef SHUTDOWN #define SHUTDOWN true } Thus causing the app to close. If it's not, would having a function like RenderWindow* getWindow() { return window; } and then calling if(Escape.isPressed()) getWindow()->close(); The best way to do it? I'd rather not go that route because the classes that are calling the key event are members of the class controlling the main loop and the window, so I'd have to set pointers to the containing class in the smaller classes to call getWindow() and it just seems like a more complicated method. But if I can't do it with preprocessor directives I'll just have to use pointers to the parent class.

  I need to test a logical expression held in a string to see if it evaluate to TRUE or FALSE.(the strig is built dynamically) For example the resulting string may contain "'dog'<'cat' OR (14 AND 4<6)". There are no variables in the string, it will logically evaluate. It will only contain simple operators = < < = <= and AND , OR and Open and Close Brackets, string constants and numbers. (converted to correct syntax && || etc.) I currently acheive this by creating a jscipt function and compiling it into a .dll. I then reference the .dll in my VB.NET project. class ExpressionEvaluator { function Evaluate(Expression : String) { return eval(Expression); } } Is there a simpler method using built in .NET functions or Lamdba expressions.

  I'm having some trouble understanding the IF clause at the end of this function from Pro JavaScript Design Patterns: function extend(subClass, superClass) { var F = function() {}; F.prototype = superClass.prototype; subClass.prototype = new F(); subClass.prototype.constructor = subClass; subClass.superclass = superClass.prototype; if(superClass.prototype.constructor == Object.prototype.constructor) { superClass.prototype.constructor = superClass; } } The book explains that these lines ensure that the superclass's constructor attribute is correctly set, even if the superclass is the Object class itself. Yet, if I omit those three lines and do the following: function SubClass() {}; extend(SubClass, Object); alert(Object.prototype.constructor == Object); The alert says 'true', which means the superclass's constructor is set correctly even without those last three lines. Under what conditions, then, does this IF statement do something useful? Thanks.

  Hi all, I have Article model and a Comment model. Comment is created in admin.py as admin.StackedInline, and it has several fields, notably content and lastUpdate. For lastUpdate, i have specified as follows: lastUpdate = models.DateTimeField('last update', auto_now=True). Understandably, lastUpdate is not displayed when i try to add new comment (or edit old ones). However, i would like it to display for older comments if possible, as a read only thing.   I have an aggregated attribute which I want to be able ask about its _changed? ness, etc. composed_of :range, :class_name => 'Range', :mapping => [ %w(range_begin begin), %w(range_end end)], :allow_nil => true If I use the aggregation: foo.range = 1..10 This is what I get: foo.range # => 1..10 foo.range_changed? # NoMethodError foo.range_was # ditto foo.changed # ['range_begin', 'range_end'] So basically, I'm not getting ActiveRecord::Dirty semanitcs on aggregated attributes. Is there any way to do that? I'm not having a lot of luck with alias_attribute_with_dirty, etc.

  I found this thread which basically has the same issue I have. But their solution is not working for me. The dialog appears the first time I click the submit button, but not the 2nd time. I'm opening the dialog box after a form submission. UPDATE I finally got it working.   Let's suppose you have this class: class A { public: A () {} A (double val) : m_val(val) {} ~A () {} private: double m_val; }; Once I create an instance of A, how can I check if m_val has been initialized/defined? Put it in other words, is there a way to know if m_val has been initialized/defined or not? Something along the lines of the defined operator in Python, I suppose. (But correct me if I'm wrong.)   I am loading an external SWF using the Loader class, and adding it to the stage with addChild. When trying to add a mouse click event listener to the MovieClip, using addEventListener, nothing happens, the event never fires. Is there a specific way to add listeners to externally loaded movie clips? My code looks somewhat like this: var target:MovieClip = assets["screensaver"] as MovieClip; target.root.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickScreenSaver, true); addChild(target); The target shows up on the display, but the CLICK event is completely ignored.

Firefox throws an error that simply says "$(" for that line. Anyone know what might be causing this?

  I have a post controller that has many comments. The post model has a field called has_comments which is a boolean (so I can quickly select from the database only posts that have comments). To create a new comment for a post, I use the create action of my comments controller. After I create the comment I need to update my post's has_comments field and set it to true. I can update this field from the create action of my comments controller, but that doesn't seem right - I feel that I should really be using the post's update action, but I'm not sure if it's right to call it (via send?) from the create action of the comments controller. Where should the code for updating the post be? Thank you!

  In my application I am trying to save an arbitrary part of a rendered HTML canvas to an image file. In my Javascript I call ctx.getImageData(x, y, w, h) and pass the resulting object to my macruby code (though if you know a solution in objc I am also very interested). There I'm trying to create a NSBitmapImageRep object so that I can then save to an image format the user desires. • XMLHttpRequest cross site scripting on same server but differnt port

  hello, using XMLHttpRequest it is not possible to open a connection to a document on a different domain than where the page itself is hosted. but what about different ports? for example i have a webserver running on my machine listening on port 80 so the webaddress would look like this: http://localhost:80/mypage.html and i have another webserver running on localhost which is meant to process the ajax requests but listens on a different port. so the javascript in mypage.html would look like this: var xmlhttprequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("GET", "http://localhost:1234/?parameters", true); xmlhttp.send(); would this work? or will it give a security exception as well?
