• Android: Touch seriously slowing my application

  Hi all, I've been raking my brains on this one for a while. when I'm running my application (opengl game) eveyrthing goes fine but when I touch the screen my application slows down quite seriously (not noticeable on powerful phones like the nexus one, but on the htc magic it gets quite annoying). I did a trace and found out that the touch events seem to be handled in a different thread and even if it doesn't take so much processing time I think androids ability to switch between threads is not so good... What is the best way to handle touch when speed is an issue ? Currently I'm using : in the GLSurfaceView @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { GameHandler.onTouchEvent(event); return true; } Any ideas are welcome

• Hibernate Many-To-One Foreign Key Default 0

  I have a table where the the parent object has an optional many-to-one relationship. The problem is that the table is setup to default the fkey column to 0. When selecting, using fetch="join", etc-- the default of 0 on the fkey is being used to try over and over to select from another table for the ID 0. Of course this doesn't exist, but how can I tell Hibernate to treat a value of 0 to be the same as NULL-- to not cycle through 20+ times in fetching a relationship which doesn't exist? <many-to-one name="device" lazy="false" class="Device" not-null="true" access="field" cascade="none" not-found="ignore"> <column name="DEVICEID" default="0" not-null="false"/>

• How to use the boost lexical_cast library for just for checking input

  I use the boost lexical_cast library for parsing text data into numeric values quite often. In several situations however, I only need to check if values are numeric; I don't actually need or use the conversion. So, I was thinking about writing a simple function to test if a string is a double: template<typename T> bool is_double(const T& s) { try { boost::lexical_cast<double>(s); return true; } catch (...) { return false; } } My question is, are there any optimizing compilers that would drop out the lexical_cast here since I never actually use the value? Is there a better technique to use the lexical_cast library to perform input checking?

• How to stop a Timer-X timer (jQuery)

  I'm using Timer-X's timerDelayCall function in order to have a repeating rotator on my page, which starts automatically as the page loads: jQuery.timerDelayCall({ interval: 2000, repeat: true, callback: function(timer) { ... (my rotator logic here) } } }); The problem is that I'm trying to make a function that includes stopping that timer: function signUp() { ... (timer stop code here) } The documentation stats that timer.stop() does that, but however I format it, I get errors about it not being declared. I have tried every variation I can think of, such as: timer.stop(); jQuery.timer.stop(); $(document).timer.stop(); jQuery.timerDelayCall({ callback: function(timer) { timer.stop() } }); I'm sure I'm missing something simple - I come from a PHP background yet I'm new to javascript - but can't see what it is exactly. Help is much appreciated!

• Is it faster to count down than it is to count up?

  Our computer science teacher once said that for some reason it is more efficient to count down that count up. For example if you need to use a FOR loop and the loop index is not used somewhere (like printing a line of N * to the screen) I mean that code like this : for (i=N; i>=0; i--) putchar('*'); is better than: for (i=0; i<N; i++) putchar('*'); Is it really true? and if so does anyone know why?

• Return no records if FIndKey results in False?

  Using TDataSet.FindKey you can locate records. When it results in True the datasets cursor will be positioned on the found record. When it results in False the cursor is not moved. This results in the record data prior to FindKey being issued being displayed in data aware components. • Maven release prepare without prompts?

  I want to automate the execution of Maven release:prepare with Perl so that the user doesn't have to answer the prompts for version names etc. Are there a -D arguments that can be supplied so that no prompting is done? I tried the obvious solution which is to feed the prompt answers to mvn via perl code like this: my $cmd = qq(mvn release:prepare -DautoVersionSubmodules=true-DpreparationGoals="clean install"); open MVN, "| $cmd"; print MVN "\n"; # default print MVN "$cur_version"; print MVN "\n"; print MVN "$next_version"; print MVN "\n"; close MVN; but mvn ignores such input and winds up using the defaults (and doesn't prompt either). When user clicks it - it instances MyClass (its implementation is in AppCode directory) and turns invisible (button2 becomes visible). When I click button2 it raises "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" Exception. • jQuery - now: Creating an object and storing values in it to pass to an AJAX call

  I have an array: myarr = []; I'm filling it with some values: myarray['name'] = "Me!"; Now I want to transform that array into a set of Key = Value pairs. I though jQuery would do it automatically, but it doesn't seem to. $.ajax ({ type: "POST", dataType: "text", url: "myurl", data: myarr }); Is there a way to do this or something I'm doing wrong? I get no javascript errors, and no serverside errors other then no POST information at all. I need the request to be sent as a true POST request. I need to keep the php code simple because sometimes the login won't be an AJAX call. I'm now trying the following with an error unexepected token ':' myarr: { 'name':'me' } The question has now become: How do I initialize a new javascript object as "blank", how do I set up mappings, and how do I pass it in an AJAX call?

• How to access radioButton individual items?

  Hello, I've got 2 radio button groups showed differently depending on the value selected on another radio button. The thing is that I would like to set the default value of the group to the first element in the radiobutton group, but when I change from the other radio button it preserves the value previously selected, when I want it to be reset to the default value. I've been searching in the javascript repository but apparently I cannot access like it says with radio[1].checked = true... It says that radio[1] is undefined, but radio is an HTML Input element object. I'm accessing it from a different file, but var radio = document.getElementById("radio") works, but I can't access the individual radiobuttons. Thank you in advance

• efficiently compare two BitArrays of the same length

  How would I do this? I am trying to count when both arrays have the same value of TRUE/1 at the same index. As you can see, my code has multiple bitarrays and is looping through each one and comparing them with a comparisonArray with another loop. It doesn't seem to be very efficient and I need it to be. foreach (bitArrayTuple in bitarryList) { for (int i = 0; i < arrayLength; i++) if (bArrayTuple.Item2[i] && comparisonArray[i]) bitArrayTuple.Item1++; } where Item1 is the count and Item2 is a bitarray.

• What action is my Symfony/Doctrine generated form actually going to?

  In my Symfony 1.4 project I am using the doctrine:generate-admin task to create the modules that compose my backend system. One such module is "journeys". When I view the source of the "journeys/new" page (which displays the form to create a new journey entity) the action of the form is simply "journeys" (I expected it to be "journeys/create"). The "journeys" route on its own would call the executeIndex method - however I put a log call in there and upon form submission, the log is not made. So this leads me to believe that executeIndex is NOT being called, and another piece of code is being fired upon form submission that then (depending on a hidden input in the form) calls either executeCreate() or executeUpdate(). Problem is, I don't know where that would be happening. Any insight would be much appreciated.   The following validation code in the model: validates :formatted_address, :zip, :city, :state, :country, :presence => true, :message => "is incomplete. Please enter full address." is displayed when either of the fields are empty. Let's say now :address and country are empty, 2 errors are displayed: Formatted Address is incomplete. • Logical xor operator in c++?

  Is there such a thing? First time I encountered a practical need for it, but I don't see one listed in stroustrup. I intend to write: // Detect when exactly one of A,B is equal to five. return (A==5) ^^ (B==5); But there is no ^^ operator. Can I use bitwise ^ here and get the right answer (regardless of machine representation of true and false)? I never mix & and &&, or | and ||, so I hesitate to do that with ^ and ^^. I'd be more comfortable writing my own "bool XOR(bool,bool)" function instead.

  I have some folders with special characters in their names. I run currently at a test-computer with Windows OS, but later I will use LINUX. My problem is that the folders with special chars in their names cannot be recognized somehow. ex: file_exists('../Bilar/27733691_1.jpg') // TRUE file_exists('../Båtar/27733691_1.jpg') // FALSE because of the special char in folder name... How should I solve this? I plan to run LINUX in the future when website is online... would that matter? Please explain thoroughly because I am a newb at this Thanks

• JavaScript apparently waits for each AJAX call before sending another in a loop

  Hello. Straight to the point: I have this javascript: for(item=1;item<5;item++) { xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("GET",'zzz.php', true); xmlhttp.send(); } And in PHP file something like this: usleep(5);die('ok'); Now the problem is javascript seems to be waiting for each ajax call to be completed before sending another one. So the first response gets back after approx. 5 seconds, next after 10 seconds and so on. That's a very simplified version of what I do, since the real script involves using cURL in PHP and jQuery as JS lib. But the problem remains the same. Why do responses come back in 5 second intervals?
