• Can't find a wireless access point's IP address after changing router IP/LAN settings

  I have a modem/router, Netgear DG834, and a wireless access point (AP), Netgear WG602. The AP is directly connected to the router. My old working configuration was: Router IP address : 192.168.0.1 Access point IP address: 192.168.0.10 My new configuration is: Router IP address : 192.168.1.1 Access point IP address: ???.???.???.??? I changed my router's IP address/LAN settings to set up a VPN with another Netgear router that had the same LAN configuration. The wireless network is still up and perfectly working, but I can't find the AP's IP address. I've tried broadcast ping but the AP won't respond. I looked at the router "attached devices", but it's not there. I've played around with Nmap and arp request but the AP is totally invisible. I can fix it by resetting it to factory settings, but I'm very interested in learning more about this problem. I'm also interested in network security and this fact of having an invisible AP well, it's something I'd like to understand.

Once this VM is golden, I plan on migrating this VM over to the E2160 machine. The question is, while creating/preparing this VM on the Q9550, should I disable all the following settings below to make sure the E2160 can start this VM without errors? • DotNetNuke - Module settings disapear on new user control.

  Hi, I have a DNN module which renders a user control (view.ascx) All is ok ( I am logged in ) and I get the DNN settings menu. however when I add another control and load it like so: string url = Globals.NavigateURL(PortalSettings.ActiveTab.TabID, "View_Details", "mid=" + ModuleId.ToString()); Response.Redirect(url); I lose the settings link when the new control loads. Any ideas? Is there a property somewhere to turn on settings for the loaded user control?

• Both nginx and php5-fpm init.d startup scripts are non-functional and returning no errors..? But they used to work perfectly

  I have been using nginx and php5-fpm on my Ubuntu box for a while now. Everything has been configured and setup correctly, and it ran like a charm. I have been keeping the packages updated & upgraded as usual, but haven't touched the nginx OR php5-fpm config files at all (thus I'm pretty sure this isn't my fault... ) Basically, I noticed nginx wasn't running as it should be. I ran the command sudo service nginx start, and the script did nothing. The same thing happens when trying to do anything - start, stop, restart or reload. This also happens for the "php5-fpm" init script - although all other init scripts seem to be functioning correctly. When trying to start nginx OR php5-fpm, this is what happens: root@HAL:/etc# service php5-fpm start root@HAL:/etc# I can't understand what is going wrong. The script isn't returning errors, but similarly it isn't starting the daemon or reporting success as usual. For reference, both installations are from the official nginx and php5-fpm PPAs. The fact that both started doing this at the same time has thrown me - since they are both unrelated packages. I have since purged both sets of packages from my system with apt-get purge ... and also apt-get remove --purge ... both of which have successfully removed the packages, their config files, and their init.d startup scripts. After having reinstalled nginx, I now have a functioning startup script again - I can start the web server as usual. However, php5-fpm is still experiencing the strange premature exiting of the startup script.. and I really can't figure out what's causing it. I have no idea what caused this to occur initially, but have managed to fix nginx. I now need to fix the php5-fpm startup script. If anybody could shed some light on this situation, I would be very grateful! The chances are both these issues are related - and they were caused by me doing something stupid. But now I need to fix it. This time I was lucky - because these problems are just on my development server. But I have 2 other live servers which are configured in a similar way, and I am worried the same thing will happen to these two as well! Has anybody else come across this? Do you have any words of advice? Thank you

• Rails: Settingslogic accessible to users?

  I have my app configured with Settingslogic, which I love. My question is how to I make a page on my Rails app where Administrators can make changes to the settings specified in config/settings.yml?? I assume said page would have to read and display appropriate form fields for all the values in the YAML file, then save those values back to config/settings.yml? • Is there anyway to set values in the settings.bundle from within the APP

  Is there any way to set/update values in the settings.bundle from within your app. I am fine reading in values from the preferences into NSUserDefaults but was wondering whether you can set values from within the app. I have a web-app which I am making a iPhone client for and was thinking to include the users account details in the settings.bundle. This is fine if the user only updates the values through the Apple Application Preferences screens, but what if the user updated those values in the web app. I wanted to pull down the values from the web and then "update" the values in the settings.bundle from within the App. I am guessing that this is not possible and that maybe I need to create my own "in-app" settings screen? But thought I would check with you all first ...

• Ubuntu Volume overriding settings set in Alsamixer

  Problem: How do I "lock in" the volume I set through alsamixer? I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I adjusted the bass/treble columns in alsamixer but changing the system volume resets them all back to 100% I did save the settings by running alsactl store but everything is reset once I touch Ubuntu's volume icon in the top menu bar. This is rather painful because the computer is hooked up to a 650watt system with a massive subwoofer. As much as I enjoy my music, there's no need to have the walls vibrate :) What can I do to prevent Ubuntu from overriding the settings?

• APC PHP cache size does not exceed 32MB, even though settings allow for more

  I am setting up APC (v 3.1.9) on a high-traffic WordPress installation on CentOS 6.0 64 bit. I have figured out many of the quirks with APC, but something is still not quite right. No matter what settings I change, APC never actually caches more than 32MB. I'm trying to bump it up to 256 MB. 32MB is a default amount for apc.shm_size, so I am wondering if it's stuck there somehow. I have run the following echo '2147483648' > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax to increase my system's shared memory to 2G (half of my 4G box). Then ran ipcs -lm which returns ------ Shared Memory Limits -------- max number of segments = 4096 max seg size (kbytes) = 2097152 max total shared memory (kbytes) = 8388608 min seg size (bytes) = 1 Also made a change in /etc/sysctl.conf then ran sysctl -p to make the settings stick on the server. Rebooted, too, for good measure. This is confirmed as refreshing the apc.php page shows cached file counts that move up and down (implying that the cache is not holding onto all of its files). Does anyone have an idea of how to get APC to use more than 32 MB for its cache size?? **Note that the identical behavior occurs for eaccelerator, xcache, and APC.   Hi. While I found this question being answered here on SW several times, I didn't find a concluding answer what is the best approach. I'm not looking to use any external wrapper, as I found them launching the java process under a nice level lower then themselves which potentially lowers the performance, so it seems only the shell methods are left. I so far found 3 different shell methods: start-stop-daemon RedHat daemon init.d function nohup on start / disown after start What you people are using, and can recommend as the most reliable method? • Can't change picture import settings in Windows 7

  I have foolishly set the picture import settings wrongly for when a camera card is put in my computer. It correctly asks me whether I would like to import the pictures using Windows picture import, and when I click on this option it flashes up the "import pictures" dialog very briefly, and then immediately gets on with importing the pictures to the wrong place. I simply want to click on the "import settings" link on the dialog - but it's too quick for me, and even if I do manage it it just ignores me. Windows Help, useful as ever, tells me to click on the link :) Any ideas? Thanks!

  Im having some serious trouble making CoovaAP-powered router get network settings from modem. Wireless router works in captive portal mode (so it handles user login on the same device). But DNS settings and connection ip (for router) are not set as they supposed to via DHCP on modem. It makes installation in other location really complicated, because you have to go and set everything manually. For now i use google`s dns servers. What`s the way to make router self-configurable via modem's dhcp ?

  I would like to define a key & value in Settings.settings and bind the value by declaration in the XAML (not in the code behind by command). Here's what I've been trying in vain: Create a WPF project "Exp1" with Visual Studio Express 2010. Set one key named "TextFromSettings" to the value "Some Text from Setting". Add the attribute xmlns:p="clr-namespace:Exp1.Properties;assembly=Exp1" to the tag. Add Text="{Binding Path=TextFromSettings, Mode=TwoWay, Source={x:Static p:Settings.Default}}" to the tag Now, the preview window shows the text, however, the compiler fails: "Error 1 Cannot find the type 'Settings'. Note that type names are case sensitive." Where am I going wrong?

The accept() function always fail to accept connections, the pid returned is -1 I have no idea what causing this, since in RedHat & CentOS it works well. When i remove the call to daemonize(), everything works well on Debian, when i add it back, same accept() error reproduce. I've been monitring the /proc//fd, everything looks good. Something in the daemonize() and the Debian release just doesn't seem to work. (Debian GNU/Linux 5.0, Linux 2.6.26-2-286 #1 SMP) Any idea what causing this? Thank you

• Multiple Graphics Cards on Fedora 15 (Gnome 3)

  I have the (delightful) misfortune of having 3 graphics cards. They are XFX Radeon 5750s. Each drives 2 monitors via dvi. I am having a really hard time getting these running on fedora 15 (gnome 3). So my setup is 3 columns of 2 monitors (the upper monitor is mounted upside down in each column to reduce the bezel between monitors). When the (graphical) login screen comes up all 6 have the blue stripey background that must be the default, but then when I login, things get interesting. In the xorg.conf below, you will see only 2 of the screens in the serverlayout while the other 4 are commented out. Logging in with only 2 of the screens active works well (and it even remembers that the top one is upside down, and should be considered above the lower, i am not sure where it stores this info, but i set it using the graphical "Displays" settings) However, as soon as I uncomment a third screen, or more, it gives me an error message when I login. It's one of those friendly, less helpful messages (Oh no! Something has gone wrong. A problem has occurred and the system can't recover. Please log out and try again). If i do not use an xorg.conf, then the "Displays" prefs pane shows only the two monitors on one of my graphics cards Thanks to anyone who can help me get going! • PHP.ini Settings Are Ignored By PHP5.3.5 Running With Windows 7 And Apache 2.2.15

  I did an install of PHP5.3.5 on Windows 7 Home Premium using the MSI installer download. I got it to overwrite a previous version of PHP5 in C:\php5\ When first testing it, the server failed to start. I fixed this by adding the path to PHP in the Apache2.2 httpd file where the installer had inserted 2 lines of coded pointing to the ini file directory and the PHP DLL but had left out the directory path. After doing this, the server starts ok and I can run phpinfo to view the PHP settings in my web browser on local host. In the phpinfo it states that the loaded configuration file is C:\php5\php.ini as expected. But if I make any changes to the settings, and reboot the server, none of the changes are reflected in phpinfo. Yes, I do refresh the browser window. If I rename the php.ini to something else to make it invisible phpinfo then correctly identifies that there is no php.ini file loaded. So the settings in php.ini are being ignored and some default settings are being used (but I have no idea where these are derived from). As far as I can tell, there are no other php.ini files on my computer. In phpinfo it states that the Configuration File (php.ini) Path is C:\Windows but this is the same as on a Windows XP computer that I work on. And in the windows folder I don't see any php.ini file. In the windows registry, there is no mention of PHP5, and the PATH environment variable starts with C:\php5\; So hopefully someone can suggest how I can get PHP5 to take notice of the C:\php5\php.ini settings. :)

  I have an ec2 instance running Ubuntu 14.04 and I want to host two sites from it. On my first site I have two settings file, production_settings.py and settings.py (for local development). I import the local settings into the production settings and override any settings with the production settings file. Since my production settings file is not the default settings.py name, I have to create an environment variable DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE='site1.production_settings' However because of this whenever I try to start my second site it says No module named site1.production_settings I am assuming that this is due to me setting the environment variable. Another problem is that I won't be able to use different settings file for different sites. How do I start use two different settings file for two different websites?

  I've had two 1280x1024 monitors running for years on an nVidia 8800GT card with no problems. I've now replaced one monitor with a new 2560x1440 one. The card seems to support both fine, however every time I reboot the resolutions and monitor positions revert to the old settings. I've tried upgrading, downgrading, stripping out and reinstalling many versions of the nvidia drivers to no avail. Logging in as another user doesn't help - same problem. Booting into another another OS (Win7 64) works OK, so it is just this OS installation. During boot up everything looks fine (ie native 2450x1440 res) until the nVidia control panel or something is loaded which flips it back into the old mode. I have no old saved nvidia profiles. I can't find anything in the registry relating to these old settings. Its driving me crazy having to set resolutions and realign monitors on every reboot! Can anybody help?

• Possible to alert server to iphone settings change?

  I'm working on giving our users context-specific PUSH notification settings, similar to what Facebook has in their settings menu. As far as I can tell though, there's no way to actually notify our server of these changes until the user actually launches the app. Is this correct? Is there any mechanism provided for immediately alerting our servers to a settings change?

• Mono/C#: A good GUI toolkit ? looks good on KDE?

  Hi there, i am trying to get into developing for linux and i am a .net developer so i decided to give Mono a try. THe problem is that i am having problems trying to find a good gui toolkit. I have chosen KDE over GNOME because its a little bit more pleasing on the eye. I have looked here http://www.mono-project.com/Gui_Toolkits I get the sense GTK# is a good toolkit but its for GNOME. I know you can still run GNOME apps on KDE - but do they look nice ? probably not?? I would really appreciated any feedbakc from anyone who is doing the same or has done the same. I don't want to end up choosing the wrong toolkit and then have to change half way trhough. Also i was hoping to do all my development on my Windows PC and then just pass it to linux when i am ready... I presume this is possible? Thanks in advance

• Ubuntu Volume overriding settings set in Alsamixer

  Problem: How do I "lock in" the volume I set through alsamixer? I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I adjusted the bass/treble columns in alsamixer but changing the system volume resets them all back to 100% I did save the settings by running alsactl store but everything is reset once I touch Ubuntu's volume icon in the top menu bar. This is rather painful because the computer is hooked up to a 650watt system with a massive subwoofer. As much as I enjoy my music, there's no need to have the walls vibrate :) What can I do to prevent Ubuntu from overriding the settings?

• NSUserDefaults with in-app Settings bundle

  I'm in the process of building an app and would prefer to have an in-app specific Settings bundle rather than make it available in the Settings application. I'm using NSUserDefaults class to save and retrieve them but would like to have the same Settings app look and feel. I wanted to use InAppSettingsKit or the llamasettings but don't know how to use the NSUserDefaults class. Those kits tell me how to create a .plist file and use their kits. All I need is use the Settings app look and feel while at the same time use NSUserDefaults class to save and retrieve values. Please help.

  In my app Settings.Default.test is a StringCollection. I don't understand why this code StringCollection col = new StringCollection(); col.Add("1\r\n2\r\n"); Settings.Default.test = col; Settings.Default.Save(); Settings.Default.Reload(); Changes my text 1\r\n2\r\n to 1\n2\n on Reload. Is it default behavior or what? How to restore multiline text in my textbox on restart of my application?
