• Building a complete online payment gateway like Paypal

  So this question isn't about integrating an existing payment gateway into my site. This is more of a architectural question. I want to build a system similar to Paypal. Now I understand that Paypal offers a lot of features under the roof and I can't implement all of them at once. I want to implement the core functionality of Paypal and other such services. So my question is (rather discussion is) around how would one go about building such a system. Some points to discuss: Handle payments through existing banks. I am guessing that I would need access to local bank protocols to get this. Allow users to securely store and process their payments How does Paypal handle the transactions? Thoughts?

• Artificial Intelligence in online game using Google App Engine

  I am currently in the planning stages of a game for google app engine, but cannot wrap my head around how I am going to handle AI. I intend to have persistant NPCs that will move about the map, but short of writing a program that generates the same XML requests I use to control player actions, than run it on another server I am stuck on how to do it. I have looked at the Task Queue feature, but due to long running processes not being an option on the App engine, I am a little stuck. I intend to run multiple server instances with 200+ persistant NPC entities that I will need to update. Most action is slowly roaming around based on player movements/concentrations, and attacking close range players...(you can probably guess the type of game im developing)

  Ive been toying with this problem for more than a week now, I have optimized it a lot, I seem to be getting the right answer, since it's the same as when I compare it to other's answers that got accepted, but I keep getting wrong answer.   It recently emerged on a large poker site that some players were possibly able to see all opponents cards as they played through exploiting a security vulnerability that was discovered. A naïve cheater would win at an incredibly fast rate, and these cheats are caught very quickly usually, and if not caught quickly they are easy to detect through a quick scan through their hand histories. The more difficult problem occurs when the cheater exhibits intelligence, bluffing in spots they are bound to be called in, calling river bets with the worst hands, the basic premise is that they lose pots on purpose to disguise their ability to see other players cards, and they win at a reasonably realistic rate. Given: A data set of millions of verified and complete information hand histories Theoretical unlimited computer power Assume the game No Limit Hold'em, although suggestions on Omaha or limit poker may be beneficial How could we reasonably accurately classify these cheaters? The original 2+2 thread appeals for ideas, and I thought that the SO community might have some useful suggestions. It's an interesting problem also because it is current, and has real application in bettering the world if someone finds a creative solution, as there is a good chance genuine players will have funds refunded to them when identified cheaters are discovered.

Points to be considered: 1) Simplest way would be to use Application or Cache object to have the counts on Session start or end. However this would fail if there is a worker process recycle. Wouldn't it? 2) Should't make a difference whether the session is inproc/state server managed/ or SQL server managed. 3) Should preferably be seamless to a web-farm architecture.

  I'm trying to grade a quiz application I would like to make. I have a questions model with and ask(the actual question), 4 choices(a-d), and a correct answer(string).   I have downloaded MySQL ODBC Connector 5.1. Now am trying to setup the DSN. But am getting the error: Connection Failed : [HY000] [MySQL] [ODBC 5.1 Driver]Host '117.x.x.x' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server My server url is server.myweb.com - this name am entering in the TCP/IP Server and Port =3306. I have also entered the userid and password , which is the one which i enter when i open www.myweb.com/cpanel Is this a version problem? Should the version of MySQL on my server also be 5.1, i.e. the one of the ODBC? Please help.

  I am building a whiteboard, which would have a server(teacher) and clients(students). Teacher would draw something on his side, which will be shown exactly same to the students. I want to know which component i should use to do the drawing? i am currently drawing on JPanel . I want the screen of Server gets copied on the clients, so for that what could be the right method to do this? option1: i save the JPanel as image, and send thru socket, and loads it on the screen of client, also it always saves the background image only, not what the user has drawn onto it. OR option2: both server and client JPanel dimensions are same, so i just send the new coordinates drawn everytime thru socket, with some protocol to understand whether it is rubber or pencil.. Any help would be appreciated.

  Hello, I have some PDF documents which are being displayed in the browser, with some fields already being pre-populated from the database using iTextSharp (we are running Windows Server 2008, IIS 7, SQL Server 2008, and ASP.NET 2.0/2.5 with C#). Our clients need to be able to fill in the remaining fields and save the PDF to the server. I have considered the following possibilities: 1.) Somehow using iTextSharp to parse the form fields, grab all the form data and save it to the database on submit. 2.) Adding a submit button to the PDF itself using LiveCycle with some sort of JS click event to save the FDF/XFDF/XDP/XML data either to the database or to a flat file on the server. I am currently unsure as to what the best approach would be, what would work, or how to implement any of these possible solutions, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have a PageController witch go see if the page exist in the DB and if it don't I return to a 404 view with the status code 404 (Response.StatusCode = 404;) How can I reproduce the same behavior live? Do I need to setup something on IIS? I'm on winserver 2008 using c# and MVC 1.0. Thanks for the help!
