However, I want to upgrade this to 4 monitors. My question is, what is the best way to do this? I remember in the past reading I need the same type of video card, however would any GeForce GTX work, or do i need that very specific model (EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE)? Are there any issues I should be aware of before I order 2 new monitors and a video card? Are there video cards better setup for this? I know NVidia offers SLI, however I do not know if my mobo is compliant. My mobo also offers CrossFireX configuration, though from what it says only Radeon are compliant. Any suggestions / feedbacks on my best route with my current setup is appreciated. Even if you suggest buying 2 new identical video cards, as long as you can mention which and why that is better I really appreciate it. Note: I really do not do any gaming. I sometimes do some 3D work in Unity and very rarely in Maya. Besides that I mostly do all my computer work in Visual Studios and Photoshop. I however need the 2 extra monitors because I monitor sometimes 5 remote desktops at once and switching on only 2 is becoming a very big pain. Also seeing 3 side by side while I work on the 4th will be very helpful. Again, I appreciate any feedback, as I have googled a bunch and just want to make sure what I buy will work.

• Slow boot for OS and external devices

  I have been having this problem intermittently but as of yesterday, it has become more consistent. It originally started when I rebooted my PC at home and the OS (Windows 8) sat in a loop appearing to do nothing while loading. I figured since this was a new installation, that something may have just become corrupted and I decided to reinstall. So I tried to boot off of the thumb drive which had the installation iso and encountered pretty much the same issue. Same with the DVD drive. So, I rebooted once again and left it to load the entire night just to see if it ever would and sure enough this morning, Windows had finally loaded. Authentication had the same roblem albeit not quite as long (took about 5 minutes to authenticate). However, once I was in, everything appeared to be working fine and as quick as normal with the exception of when I tried to scan the C drive for any errors, which ran unbearably slow (45 minutes and before I left for work and was not finished scanning a 64GB SSD drive). I mention that I have had this issue but never when loading the OS. Before it occurred when trying to install windows 7 from a different DVD drive than the one I have now. It took me about 3 hours to do it since I had to wait sometimes 30+ min for each step to finish processing. Does anyone have an idea as to what can cause this? I am assuming it is the motherboard since it is responsible for communication with all the devices I'm having issues with but I cannot find anyone else who has had a problem like this and don't want to drop more money on a MB if it isn't the problem. • Media Center setup won't complete for watching TV

  I have a problem watching TV in Media Center. The TV constantly pauses 1/2 second then plays 1 second, pauses 1/2 second, plays 1 second - it is constant and does not vary. This problem occurs on all channels, live or recorded. The bottom 5th of the screen is solid green. I know the problem is Media Center because I can use Pinnacle's TVCenterPro to watch TV and there is no skipping/pausing (and not green on bottom). I was using cable, and switched to DirecTV (satellite). Trying to do "Set up TV signal" in Media Center seems to be what broke it. I get an error "IR Hardware not detected." I can use the remote to "try again" - so the IR hardware works fine (Media Center's remote/sensor). I tried plugging the IR Blaster into both ports, and I tried a different USB port for the IR receiver. I can't complete the setup. Media Center was playing TV okay (with the new DirecTV) before I tried to run setup. (I ran setup to try to do recording with Media Center.) Hardware/Software: Pinnacle PCTV 800i HD PCI card (coax cable from DirecTV tuner), ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics, Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition, AMD Athlon Dual Core 2.5 GHz, 1.75 GB RAM.

• Asus MyCinema U3100mini Choppy

  I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that: Works with the MyCinema. Is lightweight and not horribly bloated with features I'll never use like Windows Media Center is. Edits: This is a dual boot system. I've discovered that the tuner actually works fine on XP. It also works fine on my other computer, which has slower hardware and also runs Windows 7 64-bit. The problem actually seems to be with playback at large screen sizes, not with hard drive buffering. Everything works fine below a certain window size and fails for large windows or full screens. Also, the same thing seems to happen whether playing live or recorded TV. As far as the obvious stuff goes, I have the latest video drivers from ATI for my Radeon x1050.

• Windows 7 - svchost high cpu usage.

  Hey guys! I'm having a problem with windows 7 x64 i though it was slow and all then i saw that the cpu usage was always around 80% and started digging through google. there's two svchost consuming around 30% each and in the resources monitor there's a system interrupts consuming 45% all the time, i trid closing the aplications and makes no diference. so i tried some other things that i've found on gloogle like disable system update but didn't work. i'd love some help here. i don't know if it will help but here's my specs: Core 2 duo 4400 ATI radeon 4850 4gb ram DDR2 thanks anyway for your attention :) EDIT So i run the program and i got this info, did i get it right? EDIT As you asked here it is, did i get it right now? the other tcp/ip there's nothing. thanks again! :D EDIT I tried somthing here, i run msconfig and took the services that one of the svchost was using out of the startup and now my cpu is around 50%, but i still would like to make this better, i can't lose that much cpu power just because windows... thanks. EDIT yeah there's nothing i can do here, going to install xp for a while, it's really weird...

• FreeBSD ZFS RAID-Z2 performance issues

  I'm trying to build my own network attached storage based on FreeBSD+ZFS+standard components, but there are strange performance issues. The hardware specs are: AMD Athlon II X2 240e processor ASUS M4A78LT-M LE mainboard 2GiB Kingston ECC DDR3 (two sticks) Intel Pro/1000 CT PCIe network adapter 5x Western Digital Caviar Green 1.5TB I created a RAID-Z2 zpool from all disks. I installed FreeBSD 8.1 on that zpool following the tutorial. The SATA controllers are running in AHCI mode. It seems like writing is fine until the ZFS ark cache is full and then ZFS stalls the entire system I/O till it's finished writing that data. Also I'm getting kmem_malloc to small kernel panics. I've already tried to put vm.kmem_size="1500M" vm.kmem_size_max="1500M" into /boot/loader.conf, but it doesn't help. Does anyone know what's going on here? Am I really not having enough memory for ZFS to handle this RAID-Z2?

• What would cause my Windows machine to seize?

  I run Windows XP SP2 on a Desktop I built (I know that doesn't provide much, but I can't say "on a Dell X103938R" or something). It has 'seized' about 7 times in its year and a half life. Everything freezes. I can't move the mouse cursor and the keyboard seems unresponsive. I can turn the monitor on and off and it will hold the last image. The light for the mouse is responsive if I move it. The keyboard lights change when pressed (cap locks, etc). I've waited upto ten minutes for a change, nothing. I haven't connected any activity to the seizing. It's happened when all I was "running" were fullscreen programs (games), just checking email, or once when I was sitting at my desktop (I was reading a book and when I tried to use the mouse, nothing). I've never been able to figure it out. I have to hard reset, and then its fine. It doesn't file system check or anything (not sure if Windows does that). No error when I load up the computer, nothing. If I had uTorrent open, it will have to recheck the torrent files to make sure they weren't corrupted though. (It's not always open when it seizes either). I'm using an AMD Athlon 5400+ with a NVidia GeForce 8600 GT, if that helps. I'm using two hard drives, 500Gb Wester Digital with a 1Tb Hitachi.

• No headphone or speakers plugged in - Windows 7 issue

  I am facing a wierd issue between my sound card driver and Windows7(any edition). I have a sony vaio notebook (VPCEB24EN). Two days ago, on start I got diabled wifi, charging and speakers. Then I restart the PC and everthing worked fine. Later on I again restarted my machine, and then I found the my speakers were not working. I thought, restart will work. I restarted many more times but it did'nt work. I searched google and found that , it might be due to : 1. Hardware is not switched on from bios. 2. No hardware. 3. overriding 64-bit drivers with 32-bit drivers. To make it working, I restored my laptop from scratched, but while restoring pc, the realtek HD drivers, it gave me an error 505. I then formatted the drive and installed Win7 Ultimate 32bit (With PC was, Win7 64-bit Home Basic). I got lots of yellow exclamation in device manager, thinking now this will resolve my issue. But Even after the installing all drivers on a fresh installation, I was still with the same position. A red cross on speaker- No Speakers or Headphone plugged in. Please Note: My Laptop is Vaio , E Series, VPCEB24EN. Audio : Intel® High Definition Audio compatible but accepts Realted Audio. While using BIOS Agent, I got Intel Chipset 5 Series Audio Adapter and ATI RV370 Audio adapter found on my board. • Windows Remote Desktop: "configuring remote session" closes without error

  I have a desktop/laptop pair at home operating x64 Windows 7 (the desktop was upgraded from Windows Vista, works just fine). I remote desktop to them on a daily basis when outside. In recent weeks, I would occasionally fail to connect to my desktop. It can connect and authenticate fine, but the "configuring remote session" dialog would simply close and not show me the desktop window or any error message. There is no error event log relating to this on the desktop computer. Some suggestions call for disabling remote audio, which mine already is, but trying different audio modes did not yield any different result. I am not too sure if this is related to video card drivers (they do get auto-updated), since remote desktop video is supposed to steer via a virtual device driver? Nonetheless the desktop operates three monitors via an ATI Radeon HD5770 (1 Displayport, 2 DVI). I do not see a real problem with that since I can mostly connect and operate it remotely. I try to "remote tunnel" via my home laptop but obviously won't work either as the problem lies in the desktop. What other conditions can cause remote desktop to break without error? UPDATE I came home and still couldn't connect to the desktop until I restarted the entire system.

• HP G61 Laptop wont boot- display stays off, caps and num lock indicators blink repeatedly

  I had my HP G61 laptop running in sleep for a while. When I came back to it about a half-hour later, it was no longer in sleep mode - the power light and the Wi-Fi indicator light were on (I keep Wi-Fi off becuase I use a wired connection) - but nothing was showing on screen. In fact, the display wasn't even turned on. So I let it sit for about 10 minutes but nothing happened. I did a force shut down and rebooted. Instead of a normal boot, the display didnt turn on, the Wi-Fi indicator was off, and the Caps Lock and Num Lock lights just blinked repeatedly. On the external keyboard i use, none of the light indicators were blinking or even on. I tried force shut-down again 10 times, then unplugged all connections except for the power cable (my laptop battery dosent hold a charge for more than 2 minutes, so I always must have a wall connection) and tried to boot again but still nothing happened. I unplugged the battery and even then nothing happened. I also tried booting with the disk drive open, and then with it closed again. On the time it was closed, I was able to successfully boot into Windows, but recieved a "Windows did not shut-down sucessfully" notice. Does anybody know why this may have happened? My PC's specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit 4GB of physical RAM, 8GB of vRAM (on a flash drive) AMD Vision x64 processor (don't know any other specs about it) ATI Radeon graphics card, 392 MB DVD-R/W lightscribe drive 2 External hard-disks (first one is 1.5TB, second one is 1TB) custom boot-screen and boot-annimation Standard BIOS apps running before sleep: firefox 10.4 itunes 10.6 adobe photoshop extended CS5.1 rockstar games social club (running in background) microsoft powerpoint 2010 professional edition google chrome I was NOT running Aero or any fancy themes - I was using the normal windows classic theme. • My Computer hangs for a few minutes just after startup, and then is fine.

  So I just built myself a reasonably beefy computer, and I installed Windows 7 on it. However, I start the machine up each morning and within a few minutes, the computer will semi hang. That is the mouse is responsive, and most of the time I can open task manager, or a new tab in Chrome. Occasionally windows will be labelled as 'Not responding'. Then, the machine will get over it's problem, and will be nice and quick until I turn it off. Here's my specs: CPU: AMD Phenom-II X4 955 Black (Quad Core, 3.2ghz) RAM: 4GB of DDR3 1300 MOBO: ASUS M4A785T-M (Latest BIOS) HARD DRIVES: 2x1TB Western Digital Caviar Blacks in RAID-0. OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64. GPU: ASUS GT240 1GB. I believe this issue relates to the RAID array, as I didn't have the lockup problem before I created the array. I purchased a second drive and reformatted after creating a RAID array, since the single drive was a little on the pokey side (compared to the rest of the computer). What I have tried: Updated Raid Drivers Malware checks Windows Updates Unecessary Services CPU and Disk activity appears to be low (via Resource Monitor) No strange errors in the error log. Any thoughts?

• OC'ing a Sapphire 7950, problems with memory clock

  I bought a new rig with sapphire radeon 7950 flex w/ boost. Good scores initially in 3dmark 11, around 7300 stock. Problem is, as soon as i start overclocking, issues arise. the core clock is at 860, but rises to 925 with boost applied in pressured situations. So all the OC tools are showing 925 as base clock for some reason. Ocing the core clock has been no problem though, got up to 1200 pretty stable, but only an incremental increase in 3dmark 11, to 7600 from 7300, which is worrying. The real trouble starts when i start touching the memory clock. As soon as i touch it even by 1 point up to 1251mhz, the performance goes way down. suddenly i score under 5000 graphics in 3dmark11, no matter if its 1251hz or 1500hz. Ive tried adjusting every other parameter, different tools (sapphiretrixx, catalyst, afterburner) all still the same. Tried upping the power, still same. Where is the issue here?

• Loss of network connectivity when playing video on Optoma HD180 projector

  Hi Folks - New to Super User, so I hope this question fits in with the guidelines. Very strange problem I am having, and I am at a loss as to how to continue troubleshooting this one. The basic problem is that when I attempt to watch streamed video on a particular display device (an Optoma HD180 projector), my network connectivity drops like a stone to barely measurable levels. This is my setup: I have a Dell H2C 730x running Windows 7 64bit. This particular computer has two ATI Radeon HD 4800 video cards. I have two Samsung 22" monitors connected to one card, and an Optoma HD180 digital projector connected to the other card via an HDMI cable. My internet connection is normally a reliable 6Mbps. The problem I am having occurs when I stream video (or even just browse the web) on the Optoma Projector. When I do this, my internet connection drops to practically zero (just a few kilobits per second). When I move the browser away from the projector, and over to one of my Samsung monitors, the internet connection comes right back. Note that the Optoma projector is on and enabled as a third monitor all this time. I can move the mouse around on the projector without triggering the problem. I tried pinging my router when I was playing a movie on one of the monitors, and I get a 1 millisecond response. However, when I have the movie playing on the Optoma projecter, pinging the router gives me response times in the hundreds of milliseconds, or times out completely. So, it clearly is something local to my machine - and not some sort of throttling occurring down the line. I would think that it is possibly something to do with the HDMI driver conflicting somehow with my network driver (which is a USB-based wireless connection). This one has me really stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

• How come my Intel 520 180GB SSD performs extremely poorly?

  I recently installed a new Intel 520 series 180GB SSD in my brand new MacBook Pro. The system is as follows: Model: MacBook Pro 15-inch, Late 2011 (MacBookPro8,2) Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 Main Drive Bay: Intel 520-series 180GB SATA-3 (6GB/s negotiated link) SSD (Firmware: 400i) [80GB free] Optical Bay: Toshiba 5400 RPM 750GB SATA-2 HDD Trim: Enabled (according to Trim Enabler App) And here are the speeds I'm getting: Read: 412 MB/s Write: 186 MB/s What have I done wrong? Results expected: Read/write both 500MB/s I have seen benchmarks with lesser SSD:s (SATA-2 even) outperform my write-speeds by far. Also, Intel 520 SSD:s are supposed to be the top class of SSD:s. Trim Enabler report: This looks a bit odd compared to screenshots from their site: These is the defined S.M.A.R.T attributes (taken from Intel): And here are my S.M.A.R.T attributes read using smartctl tool from smartmontools: They don't seem very compatible. I'm going to try and look for a S.M.A.R.T attributes reader tool for OS X which might support Intel 520 series.

• Stop the constant random reboots of my GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3V

  I've got some issues with a new system. It's rebooting constantly. The system consists of a: brand new: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3V with F9 BIOS (latest) Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge 2x 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws 1600MHz memory (mem-tested x-86) coming from a stable system: Creative Soundcard X-FI Titanium Asus Radeon HD4850 OCZ Vertex 3 120G SSD Sata 3 Hard disk 1TB Sata 2 ASUS Blu-ray Drive PSU 400w Connected peripherals : Toshiba tv (displayport on dvi of MB or HD4850) Wired mouse, wireless keyboard (logitech) Bluetooth usb key Azio main problem : it's not possible to read the errors from the MB. nothing on the manual neither on internet. At the beginning, I received a MB with graphic problems and the problem of rebooting. I RMA'd it. The new one doesn't have any graphic problems. but it's still constantly rebooting. I removed everything except the HD, the sound-card, the blu-ray drive and the wireless keyboard. It's still unexpectdly rebooting. I'm running a test with just the motherboard and the HD. I will update this text after the test. I've got some questions : Somebody have an idea of a test? The PSU could cause that problem? I used it a lot of years with the stable system. Update 1: BTW, if anyone has the same problem, the manual won't say it but you'll need to reset the bios between two tests (the screwdriver on the two pins) if you suspect a problem of compatibility .

• Desktop PC does not power up on power button

  When I press the power button on my desktop, it does not power up completely. Before I press the power button, I see lights on the motherboard. Everything is normal. On power button press, the fans on the cpu, graphics card and motherboard start to spin a little for a second or two and then they stop. No beeps during this process. It has been doing this for a while now but it used to start up after some trials. Once it starts up, I have NO issues at all like random shutdowns so it is not an issue with OS. I'm just guessing here but it seems as if the PSU (Antec TP2-550ATX) is dying out and does not have enough power now - just a guess. It's an old desktop assembled in 2005 but I have maintained it well. Any ideas? Please help. Thanks. Below is the complete configuration. • DXVA and ATI.... what am I missing?

  ATI Radeon HD3650 ffdshow (the one comes with CCCP 2010-10 AND the latest from Free-codecs site) Catalyst 10.12 Latest DirectX, Windows 7 HP x64 If I try to play it simply, the player (mpc-hc) won't use the acceleration. If I disable checks, I get artifacts. Back then it worked perfectly with my Intel and ATI too (Lenovo ThinkPad T500, switchable graphics). This only appeared recently. What should I do? What am I missing? If possible, I don't really want to downgrade drivers (waaa ATI drivers s.ck ... sorry but.. honestly), because the older one got a buggy DP driver so my external display gets a totally wrong resolution. • picking a linux compatable motherboard

  Last time I bought a new computer (I build them myself) I got a motherboard that had really poor linux support for a long time. Specifically the audio. I had to wait months before the kernel supported the on board audio chipset. That is exactly the situation I'm trying to avoid this time around. I have some specific questions about "server motherboards" actually. I looked at a few models of server motherboards by intel, and some random models on newegg. I wasn't able to see much of a difference from regular desktop motherboard other than most had two sockets, and support for much more ram. These boards seem more popular with Linux users. Why? AMD and Intel both have server CPUs as well. Some question, what's the difference? To make this question more concrete, I was looking at this this motherboard. The main questions about it that I can't answer are: Can I get a motherboard without on board raid and audio? I wanted to get a hardware raid controller and a PCI audio card. I thought a server motherboard would be cheaper and not have these "extras", since who wants an audio card on a server? Where can I found out about Linux support for the components on this board? "Intel ICH10R", "Realtek ALC889", "Marvell 88E8056" I'm buying this computer to work as a Linux desktop for a lot of compiling, coding and audio/video work, but I don't want to rule out the possibility of installing windows and playing some games at one point. (even if the last game I got has been sitting in its box unopened for almost a year). Is it a good idea to buy a "server motherboard" and play games on it, or are desktop boards better value for this? The ultimate solution for me would be a motherboard that had GPL divers for onboard LAN, a single CPU socket, lots of PCI express and PCI. USB 3.0, and no fancy hard disk controllers since I'll be getting a separate one.

• Ubuntu purple splash screen with blinking pixels?

  I had ubuntu 9.10 I upgraded to 10.04 after solving some problems (freeze at boot). Since then, I don't have the ubuntu's logo showing up when I boot, but a purple screen with some blinking pixels. I didn't care much about it... but today my computer took too long at that screen (normally it was just 1/4 second, but today it was like a minute..). And it happened like 4 or 5 times in a row (Only at the 5th time I realised that it was not freezing up, but it simply would took more time) After a reboot, it is again 1/4 second of purple screen but I don't want this problem to return.. so I want to get rid of the purple screen (I think it is an indicator of the problem) Well, I already installed the graphic drivers (going to system admnistration hardware drivers). But it didn't solve anything. (I don't know if it is even related) I searched in google, found something old (2006) and I think it maybe has some relation with my problems .. http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-294692.html But couldn't understand the conversation (i'm a linux novice) Sorry for my horrible english.. • When machine is turned on, only the fan runs

  Hi, I have an issue slightly similar to this one posted here, http://superuser.com/questions/127016/troubleshooting-monitor-never-turns-on-system-fans-running-dvd-rom-does-not-op My configuration is as follows: EPOX 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard AMD Athlon 64 CPU Corsair 2 x 1GB PC3200 DDR RAM 1 DVD RW drive and 1 CD ROM Drive SATA 250 GB Hard drive 400W Power supply EVGA 256MB graphics card I have had this configuration for about four years. Last month, I started having issues in starting the machine. It wouldn't start when I press the ON button in the front of the case. So I used to pull out the power cord and plug it back in and then switch on in the front, and it used to work fine. And then one fine day, when I plugged in the power cord at the back, even without switching on the power-on button at the front, I saw that the fan at the back was running. So I opened the system. Then I could see that all the fans inside were running. I replaced the power supply. No luck there. Then I replaced the CMOS battery. Again nothing improved. Even when I removed all the cards and memory, I still get one short beep. That's it. Any idea how to proceed on this? Anything else could be checked? I want to confirm if this is a motherboard failure, before proceeding to replace it.

• Using my old PC as a web/file server?

  I have an old desktop computer that I've been trying to sell for AGES. I guess nobody is looking for computers because it was advertised at a dirt cheap price on craigslist, local papers, etc. Anyways, I was wondering if it would be worth it to set it up as a home file server, a web dev server (I have a web host for actual production use), and maybe host a few server applications (ex: ventrillo). The computer is actually an old Dell that I cannibalized after the motherboard being destroyed by lightning, so it has fairly new parts in it. The specs are: P4 3.4GHz w/ HT and Artic Cooling Freezer 7 3GB DDR2 533 RAM 80GB hdd (will upgrade the hard drive if it's even worth using as a server) basic dvd rom 430 Watt Thermaltake PSU (it might be important to note that it is only 60% efficiency) ATI Radeon x600 256MB Antec 300 case It's not a really beefy machine, I just can't see giving it away or putting it in the corner to just collect dust. I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and I am confident in my skills in operating most Linux operating systems. I'd also be using it to tinker with when I learn new things in my server admin classes (I'm finishing my 2nd year in college at the moment so I'm still learning) Also, my house is quite old and the electrical wiring is pretty poor (it MIGHT be up to code, then again, where I live most people don't even know what regulations are or let alone know how to spell it...) Would it be safe to leave it running all day and is it going to run up my electric bill because of the PSU efficiency? I only have 5mbit cable internet, but I won't be running very bandwidth intense services on it so it should be ok. I should elaborate on why I am concerned about the power. The circuits should be fine, but I'm more concerned about fire hazard. What is the likelihood that the server could cause an electrical fire? Again, thank you all for the feedback!

• Windows: How to make programs think they're not running in a terminal server session?

  I am using the program "SoftXPand 2011 Duo" by Miniframe on my Windows 7 PC. It makes two workstations out of one computer. It uses the terminal services built into Windows to create the additional session. I use two screens, two keyboards and two mice to create this "illusion" of two computers. It works quite well and I can even play two different 3D games on the two screens attached to this single machine (using a Radeon HD5770 and a Core i5 2500k with 8 Gbytes RAM). There are a few downsides to this. I just found about one that is hidden on the first look. The sessions you are in (even on the first workstation) will identify as a terminal server session! Now some programs will run with limited effects (graphical), and some won't run at all. This also resulted in some games not running at all. They just say "Cannot be run in a terminal server session" and exit. I have already proven that top modern games (DirectX 10, 11) run just as good as on the same machine without SoftXPand, so this is a pretty artificial limitation! So, can I somehow hack my current session so it doesn't look like a terminal server session anymore? I. E. #include <windows.h> #pragma comment(lib, "user32.lib") BOOL IsRemoteSession(void) { return GetSystemMetrics( SM_REMOTESESSION ); } Will return FALSE? (Not a programming question! • AGP 4x slot running at 2x

  Hi all, Here are the specs of the machine related to this question: AMD Athlon XP 2400+ @ 2 GHz / 2x 512MB PC3200 DDR RAM / 3D Fuzion 128MB GeForce 6200 AGP / WD 160GB IDE HDD / FIC AM37 (mobo) / Codegen 350W PSU / Windows XP Pro SP3 So, for some odd reason, the GeForce 6200 that is in the AGP 4x slot is not running at 4x, but 2x. The card itself supports AGP 4x and even 8x. When I enter the BIOS, the options for the AGP slot only allow 2x as the max. Before, the max option for the AGP slot in the BIOS was 4x. (I do get the 4x option after I reset CMOS, but it does not stick after a restart.) I don't exactly know what the problem could be, but a few weeks ago, this machine's hard drive was reformatted and got a fresh install of XP. Also, I did install Rivatuner, but I never overclocked it at all. (I uninstalled it after thinking that it had done something.) Otherwise, I cannot figure out the cause of the problem. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening? (Would I have to do another reformat?) Thanks in advance. PS: the other options for the AGP slot are aperture size (which I tried changing, but it did nothing) and FastWrite (enabled by default).

• SUSE Linux and Xen on Mac Pro - How best to prepare and configure?

  This is a longwinded question, so bear with me please. I have a 2009 Mac Pro with two CPUs and 8 GB of memory which is totally overpowered for Mac OS X. I am also in the process of slowly moving away from Mac OS X as my main platform. Since the Mac Pro is really new and nice I have finally decided to use it for another platform. I am familiar with Linux and SUSE Linux. Ultimately I want to run some version of SUSE Linux (recommend one, doesn't have to be free as in no money) and Xen. Here are the individual questions: Which version of SUSE Linux should I use and how do I install it on a Mac Pro? Note that the distribution must come with usable Xen. I am willing to pay. I assume Xen will work on my computer (it has VT support etc.). Is my assumption correct? I want to run Windows 7 and another instance of SUSE Linux under Xen. Is it possible to run Mac OS X Server under Xen (on a Mac Pro)? Which email client under Linux supports imap is is best-suited for integrating with MobileMe? Does SUSE Linux support the ATI Radeon HD 4870 and the Apple Cinema Display 1920 x 1200 resolution? What else should I take into account?
