• New MOS Community: Oracle Endeca Information Discovery

  Effective November 22, the Oracle Endeca Community has been split into separate communities representing individual Oracle Endeca products. The Oracle Endeca Information Discovery Community will fall under the Business Intelligence (BI) category, and can be found here: https://communities.oracle.com/portal/server.pt/community/oracle_endeca_information_discovery/551. This community will focus on the Oracle Endeca Information Discovery (OEID) product, formerly known as Endeca Latitude and Endeca Discovery Framework. The previous Oracle Endeca Community has been renamed to Oracle Endeca Guided Search Community and will focus on discussions around the Oracle Endeca Guided Search product, formerly known as Endeca Infront and Endeca IAP. The Guided Search Community will continue to be located under the Oracle Commerce Category. Forum threads in the previous Oracle Endeca Community related to Oracle Endeca Information Discovery product have been moved to the new Oracle Endeca Information Discovery Community. • Java EE@Princeton Java Meetup

• KCDC 2011

  Well, Saturday was my presentation on Programming with Windows Azure, and it went well. Everything worked as I had wanted and I got to everything that I had planned. I did not even need my emergency backup filler. I only hope that the folks who attended got something from it. As for the whole conference, I think it was a resounding success. There were a LOT of good sessions to attend and people to meet. I had a great time, and I look forward to next year with great anticipation. Kudos to all (Lee, Jonathan, Boon(?)) and all (Jasmine, Nathan) who put this on. Great job, everyone!

• Why use string.Empty over "" when assigning to a string object

  I've been running StyleCop over my code and one of the recommendations SA1122 is to use string.Empty rather than "" when assigning an empty string to a value. My question is why is this considered best practice. Or, is this considered best practice? I assume there is no compiler difference between the two statements so I can only think that it's a readability thing?   Possible Duplicate: Mods for Minecraft Server - how does it work? I have made some minecraft client mods, but i've started a server a mounth ago and i want to make a mod for it, but i cant find any tutorial on the internet. How can then the other guys making those mods for minecraft server know how they are going to do? Do they try forward as i tryed or are they doing something else. I would be glad if someone could tell me how to do or find tutorials for me, couse I have tryed to find them in nearly a week of searching. • I cannot login into any TTYs

  My system is Ubuntu 11.10. When I enter into any tty (1, 2, 3..) it ask me my login name and password but I can not move forward. It say that the info isn't correct. I have a user without password called world, so I enter world but it show me this Module invalid (or similar) The problems is that I must enter a command and I can't. There isn't any way to fix or an alternative way to enter the command?

• Where can I find the supported way to deploy hadoop on precise?

  I want to set up a small (6 node) hadoop/hive/pig cluster. I see the work in the juju space on charms; however, the current status of deploying a single charm per node will not work for me. I see ServerTeam Hadoop which talks about re-packaging the bigtop packages. The cloudera CDH3 installation guide talks about Maverick and Lucid, but not precise. What am I missing? Is there a straight forward way to deploy hadoop/hive/pig on 6 nodes that does not involve building from tarballs?

• Iptables Issue can't SSH Remote Machines

  I want to SSH to 192.168.1.15 Server from my machine, my ip was 192.168.1.99 Source Destination was UP, with IP 192.168.1.15. This is LAN Network there are 30 Machine's Connected to the network and working fine, I'm Playing around the local machine's cos i need to apply the same rules in Production VPS I have applied the below iptables in my machine 192.168.1.99, Now i can't receive any packets from Outside and i can't send any packets Outside, While applying the Below Chain iptables -P INPUT DROP iptables -P OUTPUT DROP iptables -P FORWARD DROP After the above CHAIN i have added the Below rules and it want to allow ssh from machine to 192.168.1.15 to access the 192.164.1.15 but still i can't access 192.168.1.15 iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 22 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -o eth0 --sport 22 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A OUTPUT -o eth0 -p tcp --dport 22 -m state --state NEW,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp --sport 22 -m state --state ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT Any one Please Check Weather my Rules are Wrigt.   Possible Duplicate: Is there such a thing as Programmer's block? Has anyone had writers block? Currently, I am trying to get back in to a development role but am struggling to develop any apps. I have a good understanding of VB and OOP. I developed last in the first version of .net studio and also foxpro 9. At the moment I have tried building a customer order app, the form and database have been straight forward but I'm struggling with the nuts and bolts of the application. Should it be a Web or Windows application? Should I use classes/modules? All advice is welcome.

• Switching windows behavior in Ubuntu

  Ubuntu supports a shortcut to switch windows Ctrl+Tab, but it allows you to move through apps in one direction only. Direction depends on whether initially Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Shift+Tab was pressed. Ctrl+Tab will move forwards, but pressing Shift while moving forward doesn't change the direction, it still goes forwards unlike Windows default behaviour. Ctrl+Shift+Tab will move backwards, but if Shift is released while moving backwards the menu will disappear. Is there a way to configure Ubuntu so that you could go backwards and forwards without running the menu twice?

  I am trying to implement a web page recommendation wherein registered users will be given a recommendation of which page to visit depending upon the previous data.So with initial study I decided to go on with clustering the data with rough sets and then will move forward to find out the sequential patters with the use of prefix span algorithm.So now I want to have a better prediction model in place which can predict the access frequency of pages.I have figured out with Markov model but still some more suggestions will be valuable.Also please help me with some references of the models too.Is it possible to directly predict the next page access with the result of PrefixSpan.If so how?

• What are the correct settings for a subdomain in ZoneEdit?

  I want to create a subdomain for a site hosted by Jimdo (a DIY website builder). Jimdo does not allow subdomains however. I am trying to find a workaround where a subdomain is hosted elsewhere but everything else remains as it is. E.g. I use their email service and I want to keep it. The domain is not hosted by Jimdo, but by a host that allows me to edit my zones. It points to the Jimdo NS. I have independent hosting where I have NS information. This is where I want to host my subdomain. My thinking was that I could use ZoneEdit as a "fork" that allows me to keep using my Jimdo page like before and, at the same time, directs a subdomain to another host. Provided this is possible: Question: How do I configure ZoneEdit CNAME or NS records to forward visitors to my website and my email to my Jimdo mail account while pointing a subdomain to another host?

• SSL Certificate is Untrusted... sometimes

  Web Designer I'm working with signed up a new client that needed an SSL certificate. We went to namecheap.com and purchased on from Comodo. Got all the needed files and set it up in ISPConfig. To test we used Windows 7 running IE8, Firefox 3.6, and Chrome 12, and then on OSX with Firefox 4, Safari 5, and Chrome 13. All of them worked fine. The client is getting 'This connection is untrusted' in Firefox 4 and 5. Safari works fine on their machine. On my machines and the designer's machines all works with no errors. I had the client forward me the info for the certificate that Firefox has and the fingerprints match up. I have an old Windows 2000 VM with IE6 and Chrome and those work just fine as well. Any ideas on what else to check or do? The server is running Debian 5.0, up-to-date, with Apache 2 and ISPConfig 3.3

• Group method parameter or individual parameter?

  I would like to ask on method parameters design consideration. I am usually deciding between using individual variables as parameters versus grouping them to a class or dictionary as one parameter. Is there such a rule when you should use individual parameter against using a class or a dictionary to group the parameter? Individual parameter - Straight forward, strongly typed Dictionary parameter - Very extensible, like HTTP request but cannot be strongly typed. Class parameter - Extensible by adding member to the class parameter, strongly typed. I am looking for a design reference on when to use which? Note: I am not sure if this question is valid in programmers but I definitely think it would be closed in stackoverflow, If it is still not valid, please point me to the proper page.

• Can Win32 message loops survive being ported to native linux?

  I would like to port a large Win32 DLL to native linux in C++. I don't think I can use Wine for a DLL like mine, because users of the DLL would then also have to be in Wine, and then they would all whine... As a Windows C++ programmer, I don't (yet) have any familiarity with the GUI front-end services in linux, but if it logically runs on anything like win32 message loops, fonts, bitmaps, invalidation regions, getmessage( ) calls and so forth, it should be a fairly straight forward remapping of my existing code. So what am I looking at here, a remap or a rewrite? The path for such things must be well worn by now.

• 'Situations gone wrong' for web apps...

  Hi all I know there's some decent material floating around relating to more specific areas, but wanted to get some opinions from people who have had bad experiences in the past. I have a project where I can have a say on the design of a B2C web app, which has some external API interfaces. UX is crucial as is speed. Not sure what technology will be used at this stage. In designing this application, I want to make sure obvious features are not left out (i.e. ones that make maintenance/development easier). So can you guys tell me about 'situations gone wrong' that could have been avoided had more consideration taken place? Am looking to gather feedback in general, so don't worry if your example is industry/technology specific - so long as it pertains to web. Thanks for reading, I look forward to your responses!
