    I receive Date and time from CSV file The received Date format is YYYMMDD (string) (there is no ":" ,"-","/" to separate Year month and date). The received time format is HH:MM (24 Hour clock). I have to validate both so that (example) (i) 000011990 could be invalidated for date (ii) 77:90 could be invalidated for time. The question is , Regular expression is the right candidate for do so (or) is there any other way to achieve it?

    Hi, I have a table with custom cells, that I built in IB. When entering editing mode, content of all cells is moved to show delete edit control. My question is where can I adjust the cell appearance before entering editing mode? I saw that willBeginEditingRowAtIndexPath function is supposed to let adjust the UI, but seems I don't get there at all. Please help, TIA

    Afternoon, Bit of a tricky question this one, I have a website and need to translate the pages into french, I am using google translate API to do the translation. What I am doing is loading in the HTML templates into a string using PHP and then need to translate the text copy on the pages and then save as for example: fr_master_header.html de_master_header.html The problem I have is identifying the text copy on the page ignoring the HTML, replacing the copy in the extact place and then saving the file with the HTML tags and trasnlated text copy.     Some sites, like here at SO, allow 'bogus' slugs in the URL. Before implementing URL slugs on my site, I have a question of 'best practices'... Given a structure like example.com/123/article-slug-here/, if my site allows bogus slugs by querying on the ID - Should I ... just do a redirect to the appropriate/canonical URL (verifying the slug, and redirecting in case of a mismatch)? -or- return a 404, since technically example.com/123/this-article-s-u-x doesn't exist?

    Hi everyone, I was wondering if converting POST input from an HTML form into html entities, (via the PHP function htmlentities() or using the FILTER_SANITIZE_SPECIAL_CHARS constant in tandem with the filter_input() PHP function ), will help defend against any attacks where a user attempts to insert any JavaScript code inside the form field or if there's any other PHP based function or tactic I should employ to create a safe HTML form experience?   • How do I retrieve program output in Python?

    I'm not a Perl user, but from this question deduced that it's exceedingly easy to retrieve the standard output of a program executed through a Perl script using something akin to: $version = `java -version`; How would I go about getting the same end result in Python? Does the above line retrieve standard error (equivalent to C++ std::cerr) and standard log (std::clog) output as well? If not, how can I retrieve those output streams as well? Thanks, Geoff

    This question is about dealing with unmanaged resources (COM interop) and making sure there won't be any resource leaks. I'd appreciate feedback on whether I seem to do things the right way. Background: Let's say I've got two classes: A class LimitedComResource which is a wrapper around a COM object (received via some API). There can only be a limited number of those COM objects, therefore my class implements the IDisposable interface which will be responsible for releasing a COM object when it's no longer needed. Objects of another type ManagedObject are temporarily created to perform some work on a LimitedComResource. They are not IDisposable. To summarize the above in a diagram, my classes might look like this: +---------------+ +--------------------+ | ManagedObject | <>------> | LimitedComResource | +---------------+ +--------------------+ | o IDisposable (I'll provide example code for these two classes in just a moment.) Question: Since my temporary ManagedObject objects are not disposable, I obviously have no control over how long they'll be around. However, in the meantime I might have Disposed the LimitedComObject that a ManagedObject is referring to. How can I make sure that a ManagedObject won't access a LimitedComResource that's no longer there? +---------------+ +--------------------+ | managedObject | <>------> | (dead object) | +---------------+ +--------------------+ I've currently implemented this with a mix of weak references and a flag in LimitedResource which signals whether an object has already been disposed. Is there any better way?   • Use a subclass object to modify a protected propety within its superclass object

    Sorry for the crappy title I failed to think of a better version for my Java question. I am right now using Java version: 1.6.0_18 and Netbeans version: 6.8 Now for the question. What I've done is created a class with only one protected int property and next I made a public method to Set the int property to a given value. Then I made an object of that class and used said public method to set the int property to 5. Now I need your help to create another class that will take said object and expose it's protected int property. The way I could think of doing this was to create a sub class to inherit said class and then create a method to Get the int property of the super class. I kind of succeeded to create the code to Get the int property but now I can't figure out how to use this new sub class to reference the object of the super class. Here are the 2 classes I have thus far: public class A { protected int iNumber; public void setNumber ( int aNumber ) { iNumber = aNumber; } } public class B extends A { public int getNumber() { return super.iNumber; } } I created an object of 'A' and used its method to set its property to 5, like this: A objA = new A(); objA.setNumber ( 5 ); Now I want to create an object of 'B' to output the int stored within the property of 'objA'. I've tried to run this code: B objB = (B) objA; String aNumber_String = String.valueOf( objB.getNumber() ); System.out.println( aNumber_String ); but I got the error: "java.lang.ClassCastException" on the first line B objB = (B) objA; Please is there anyway of doing what I am trying to do? P.S. I am hoping to make this idea work because I do not want to edit class A (unless I have no choice) by giving it a getter method. P.P.S Also I know it's a 'bad' idea to expose the property instead of making it private and use public setter / getter methods but I like it this way :). Edit: Added code tags

    This is a very very basic question and I know one way is to do the following: char buffer[33]; itoa(aq_width, buffer,10); where aq_width is the int, but then I can't guarantee what size of buffer I would need in order to do this... I can always allocate a very large buffer size, but that wouldn't be very nice... any other pretty and simple way to do this?

    If you open a dialog in Swing, for example a JFileChooser, it goes somewhat like this pseudocode: swing event thread { create dialog add listener to dialog close event { returnValue = somethingFromDialog } show dialog (wait until it is closed) return returnValue } My question is: how can this possibly work? As you can see the thread waits to return until the dialog is closed. This means the Swing event thread is blocked. Yet, one can interact with the dialog, which AFAIK requires this thread to run. So how does that work?
