  • Neural Network: Handling unavailable inputs (missing or incomplete data)

    Hopefully the last NN question you'll get from me this weekend, but here goes :) Is there a way to handle an input that you "don't always know"... so it doesn't affect the weightings somehow? Soo... if I ask someone if they are male or female and they would not like to answer, is there a way to disregard this input? Perhaps by placing it squarely in the centre? (assuming 1,0 inputs at 0.5?) Thanks

  • Refcounted pointers on iPhone

    1) Refcounted pointers need stack variables to have constructors / destructors called at predictable places. 2) Objective-C, afaik, does not support the above. 3) The cocoa libraries are bound in Objective-C, not C++. Thus, my question: is there a easy way to use the Cocoa libraries, yet still have most of my app in C++ (and thus use my refcounted pointers)? Thanks! (iPhone in the title since this is mainly targeted at the iPhone)

    Problem String concatenation is slowing down a query: date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||'-1-1') d1, date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||'-1-31') d2 This is realized in code as part of a string, which follows (where the p_ variables are integers): date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||''-'||p_month1||'-'||p_day1||''') d1, date(extract(YEAR FROM m.taken)||''-'||p_month2||'-'||p_day2||''') d2 This part of the query runs in 3.2 seconds with the dates, and 1.5 seconds without, leading me to believe there is ample room for improvement. Question What is a better way to create the date (presumably without concatenation)? Many thanks!

    When writing PHP code for any given project, do you find you can write code off the top of your head? Or do you make multiple round trips to php.net? If it is the later, can you still be considered a good coder. This is a legitimate question as I find I have difficulty always remembering all of the functions that are available to me so I find I use php.net as a crutch. Is there anyway to improve this?

I want to build a native 64 bit version rather than a 32bit capable of running on a 64bit environment.   • Can you configure Spring-Security programmatically?

    I am working to configure Spring-Security with an existing application, for just basic security (i.e. what pages a user can see based on their roles). The question came up wondering if we could set what roles are required for each page in java instead of the ApplicationContext.xml. The idea is to store them in a table in our database, so we can easily change them with out a redeployment. Is this possible? How?

  • How do I reconnect to Memcache when forking in rails?

    I have a rails 3 application, and a script called by rails runner. This script forks and does some stuff in other processes. I do the proper thing with ActiveRecord before forking, where I disconnect-fork-reconnect and all that jazz. My question is I also use memcache for the Rails.cache but should I be disconnecting-reconnecting that too for my forks? If so, how would I go about that in the rails way.

  • Communication protocols in UDP

    After many hours, I have discovered that the given udp server needs the following steps for a successful communication: 1- Send "Start Message" on a given port 2- Wait to receive from server on any port 3- Then the port dedicated to you to send further data to the server equals the port you have received on it + 1 So I am asking if this kind is a known protocol/handshaking, or it is only special to this server??     Hi In some of my own older code, I use the following: Object.prototype.instanceOf = function( iface ) { return iface.prototype.isPrototypeOf( this ); }; Then I do (for example) [].instanceOf( Array ) This works, but it seems the following would do the same: [] instanceof Array Now, surly this is only a very simple example. My question therefor is: Is a instanceof b ALWAYS the same as b.prototype.isPrototypeOf(a) ? Regards, Steffen
