• How do I properly host a WCF Data Service in IIS? Why am I getting errors?

  I'm playing around with WCF Data Services (ADO.NET Data Services). I have an entity framework model pointed at the AdventureWorks database. When I debug my svc file from within Visual Studio, it works great. I can say /awservice.svc/Customers and get back the ATOM feed I expect. If I publish the service (hosted in an ASP.NET web application) to IIS7, the same query string returns a 500 fault. The root svc page itself works as expected and successfully returns ATOM. The /Customers path fails. • Getting data from UITableView

• ASP.NET MVC in a subfolder (only) on godaddy

  Okay, I have read many of the routing posts concerning putting asp.net mvc on godaddy. However, I have not come to a solution to my current problem. I am trying to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a subfolder on godaddy. I have upgraded the account to use IIS 7 and I have included the MVC dlls in \bin\ deployment method. However, I suspect that my route is not correct. Currently, my routes are set up with the standard out of the box route: public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}"); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); } I have a subdomain set up so that it looks like office.domain.com. The subdomain is pointing at a folder "/office/" which is right off the root folder. (There is not an MVC application installed in the root folder). All of my application has been placed in this 'office' folder. When I hover over the links however, the 'office' portion shows up in the link as well. e.g. Hovering over a link to the customer controller, index action yields "office.domain.com/office/Customer" as the target. This link then gets a 404 when I attempt to go to it. What should my route be to fix this? Is there something I have neglected in setting up the subdomain in godaddy? Is this something I just can't do in godaddy's domain management "tool". Do I need to set up a virtual directory for this instead of just a directory? Update: I changed the IIS settings in godaddy to use integrated pipeline mode, per this discussion and I am no longer getting 404 errors. The application worked just fine as suggested it would.

• How to use Android's CacheManager?

  I'm currently developing an Android application that fetches images using http requests. It would be quite swell if I could cache those images in order to improve to performance and bandwidth use. I came across the CacheManager class in the Android reference, but I don't really know how to use it, or what it really does. I already scoped through this example, but I need some help understanding it: /core/java/android/webkit/gears/ApacheHttpRequestAndroid.java Also, the reference states: "Network requests are provided to this component and if they can not be resolved by the cache, the HTTP headers are attached, as appropriate, to the request for revalidation of content." I'm not sure what this means or how it would work for me, since CacheManager's getCacheFile accepts only a String URL and a Map containing the headers. Not sure what the attachment mentioned means. An explanation or a simple code example would really do my day. Thanks! Update Here's what I have right now. • ASP.NET MVC jquery.UI dialog - How to validate the dialog's input on server and return error?

  I am using jQuery1.4.2, ASP.NET MVC 2 and jQuery.UI-1.8. I am creating a data input dialog which works OK when all the data is valid, but I want to validate the input data on the server and return an error to the dialog describing the error and I am not quite sure how to do that and keep the dialog open. The dialog is opened when a link is clicked. The solution may be to try to bypass more of the MVC framework's default binding that handles the submit button clicks and creates the expected ProfilePermission object and calls the Controller's AddPermission POST Action method, but I was hoping there may be an easier way without have to write more jquery/javascript code to handle the button clicks and pass the data to the server. • jQuery autocomplete - update options on dynamically created elements

  Background The user enters values into multiple inputs on the page. Think of entering a list of widgets for sale. The user would select the type of a widget from a drop down. Then enter the name of the Widget vendor, and then the actual name of the widget. These UI elements would all appear as one row. The user is able to click an "add another widget" link and a new row is created. The two input elements have autocomplete functionality attached to them using the DevBridge jQuery plugin. It suggests the name of the vendor and the name of the widget. I have recently wired up the logic to filter the name of the widget based on the name of the vendor you entered. This means setting the (custom) vendorName parameter when attaching the autocomplete plugin so it can be passed to the server side to retrieve the widget names for that vendor that match the name the user entered. To achieve this functionality I'm dynamically attaching the autocomplete functionality to the second element (the widget name text box) when it receives focus. Here is an example: $('.autocomplete-widget').live('focus', function () { $(this).autocomplete({ serviceUrl: '/something.ashx', params: { type: 'widget', vendorName: $(this).parent().prev().find('.autocomplete-vendor').val()} }); }); Problem At first glance, this looks to function quite well. However I started noticing some inconsistencies, and upon inspection, I found out that the call to the server is actually happening several times in some cases. Each time the widget name input element receives focus the autocomplete functionality is attached. And what I'm seeing is that the call to the server is made in proportion to how many times the input element has gained focus. I'd like to avoid making the call more than once, but retain the ability to attach (or update) the autocomplete functionality "on focus". I've tried to use the autocomplete 'setOptions' method but have only been able to get it to work with the static elements, not the dynamically created elements. Question Is there a way I can clear out the autocomplete functionality before I attach another one?

  Hi, I am trying to setup James mail server on a linux machine. The linux machine has public static ip address assigned. I installed James and added in the config.xml added the servername as mydomain.com. In the DNS for mydomain.com, I have created a A-record, say mx.mydomain.com, which corresponds to the ipaddress of the above mail server machine. Then added mx.mydomain.com as MX record for mydomain.com. In James, I have created a new user test. Then from gmail, I sent a mail to [email protected]. The mail is not received back and it didn't even bounce back. The linux machine is behind a firewall with only 22, 80, 8080 ports open for external network. My question here is, Do I require do open any other ports on the firewall so that the mail I send from gmail arrives to James? If it's not the port problem, any views on solving this issue? I don't want to send mails from this server. It's only for receiving the mails.

A while ago I created a webservice to be consumed by Blackberry Apps that we're built using the plug in for Visual Studio. Now the project I am working on, I want to consume the same webservice for Android devices. For the most part I have the base code for the Android app done and working. Here's my problem: I can successfully call the webservice and get a response. I know from creating the webservice that it sends a JSON response. My problem is trying to parse through the JSON response. I have found a few examples that I have been suiting to my needs however I am hung up on one thing. I found that the MVCContrib project has a custom action filter that will auto persist the parameters in TempData In an action I have the following return this.RedirectToAction(c => c.Requested(accountAnalysis)); however this is adding a querystring param to the request e.g http://mysite.com/account/add?model=MyProject.Models.AccountAnalysisViewModel Can anyone explain how I can use the PassParametersDuringRedirect filter attribute from MVCContrib to not pass the ViewModel type in the querystring. I'm migrating an existing WebForms app to MVC, so I need to keep the root of the site pointing to my existing aspx pages for now and only apply routing to named routes. Bottom line -- I'd like to simply redirect the root url path to an aspx of my choosing -- can anyone shed some light?

I have very simple user control called "TestModal" that contains a PlaceHolder control which I use to instantiate a template in. When I put an UpdatePanel inside this UserControl on the page the updatepanel only does full postbacks and not partial postbacks. What gives? • Linking to MSVC DLL from MinGW

  I'm trying to link the LizardTech GeoExpress DSDK into my own application. I use gcc so that we can compile on for platforms. On Linux and Mac this works easily: they provide a static library (libltidsdk.a) and headers and all that we have to do is use them. Compiling for windows isn't so easy. They've built the library using Microsoft Visual Studio, and we use MinGW. I've read the MinGW FAQ, and I'm running into the problems below. The library is all C++, so my first question: is this even possible? Just linking against the dll as provided yields "undefined reference" errors for all of the C++ calls (constructors, desctructors, methods, etc). Based on the MinGW Wiki: http://www.mingw.org/wiki/MSVC%5Fand%5FMinGW%5FDLLs I should be able to use the utility reimp to convert a .lib into something useable. I've tried all of the .lib files provided by LizardTech, and they all give "invalid or corrupt import library". I've tried both version 0.4 and 0.3 of the reimp utility. Using the second method described in the wiki, I've run pexport and dlltool over the dll to get a .a archive, but that produces the same undefined references. BTW: I have read the discussion below. It left some ambiguity as to whether this is possible, and given the MinGW Wiki page it seems like this should be doable. If it is impossible, that's all I need to know. • Edit and render RichText

  We have an application (a custom network management tool for building automation) that supports printing labels that you can cut out and insert into the devices' front displays. In earlier versions of the tool (not developed in my company), the application just pushed the strings into an Excel file that the field technician could then manipulate (like formatting text). We didn't do this in the new version because it was hard (impossible) to keep the Excel file in sync, and to avoid a binding to an external application (let alone different versions of Excel). We're using PDFSharp for rendering the labels. It has a System.Drawing-like interface, but can output to a System.Drawing.Graphics (screen / printer) as well as to a PDF file, which is a requirement. Later, basic formatting was introduced like Font Family, Style, Size, Color which would apply to one label (i.e. to exactly one string). Now the customer wants to be able to apply these formats to single characters in a string. I think the easiest way would be to support a subset of RichText. It's not as easy as I thought though. Currently the editor just displays a TextBox for the label you want to edit, with the font set to the label's font. I thought I'd just replace it with RichTextBox, and update the formatting buttons to use the RichTextBox formatting properties. Fairly easy. However, I need to draw the text. I know you can get the RichTextBox to draw to a HDC or System.Drawing.Graphics - but as already said, I need it to use PDFSharp. Rendering to bitmaps is not an option, since the PDF must not be huge, and it's a lot of labels. Unfortunately I couldn't get the RichTextBox to tell me the layout of the text - I'm fine with doing the actual rendering by hand, as long as I know where to draw what. This is the first question: How can I get the properly layouted metrics of the rich text out of a RichTextBox? Or is there any way to convert the rich text to a vector graphics format that can be easily drawn manually? I know about NRTFTree which can be used to parse and manipulate RichText. The documentation is bad (actually I don't know, it's Spanish), but I think I can get it to work. As far as I understood, it won't provide layouting as well. Because of this, I think I'll have to write a custom edit control (remember, it's basically just one or two line labels with basic RTF formatting, not a full-fledged edit control - more like editing a textbox in PowerPoint) and write custom text layout logic that used PDFSharp rather than System.Drawing for drawing. Is there any existing, even if partial, solution available, either for the editing or for doing the layout manually (or both)? Or is there an entirely different approach I'm just not seeing? Bonus points if exporting the label texts as RTF into a CSV file, and then importing in Excel retains the formatting. For the editing part, I need it to work in Windows Forms. Other than that it's not Windows-Forms-related, I think.

  Hello, I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Any ideas? • How to achieve "Blendability" when using DataServiceCollection in my ViewModel

  I'm looking at using oData endpoints in my Silverlight client. Naturally, I'm doing MVVM and I want the project to be nice and "Blendable" (i.e. I must be able to cleanly use static data instead of the oData endpoints when in design mode.) Now to the problem. I'd like to use the DataServiceCollection in my ViewModels, since it allows for nice bindable collections without having to worry too much with BeginExecute/EndExecute etc. Now, let's look at some code.   Given the code below, how do I compare a List of objects's values with a test value? I'm building a geolocation application. I'll be passing in longitude and latitude and would like to have the service answer back with the location closest to those values. I started down the path of converting to a string, and formatting the values down to two decimal places, but that seemed a bit too ghetto, and I'm looking for a more elegant solution. Any help would be great. • HTML Agility Pack Screen Scraping XPATH isn't returning data

  I'm attempting to write a screen scraper for Digikey that will allow our company to keep accurate track of pricing, part availability and product replacements when a part is discontinued. There seems to be a discrepancy between the XPATH that I'm seeing in Chrome Devtools as well as Firebug on Firefox and what my C# program is seeing. • VS2010 Ultimate - Unable to launch ASP.NET Development Server

  I've worked with ASP.NET once before and had a project where it was potentially useful, so I started creating an ASP.NET website as part of a solution that contained several C# class libraries. I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate Edition and Windows 7 Professional x64. The issue is that when I try to debug my website project, I get the following error message: Unable to launch the ASP.NET Development Server There's no other information (it seems a popular variant is the "port in use" error). Interestingly, I can run single pages on the application by right-clicking on the ASPX and selecting "View in Browser". This does not allow me to debug into my breakpoints, though. I have no clue what the problem could be. I'm running VS2010 in Administrator mode. One of the questions that popped up here suggested I uncomment the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line from my HOSTS file, which I did, and restarted VS with no luck. I also tried both setting a static port for the web server to run on as well as let it dynamically generate one. Both do not help the situation. Any help? Thanks.
