  It has been a while since I've had a blog, but I'm back into the open source dev and decided to get back into things.  I had a blog a few years back when NHibernate was infant (0.8 or something) and I was working with the Wilson ORMapper (www.ormapper.net) at the time.  Anyhow, I'm still working with NHibernate (particularily the exciting v3 alpha 1) and Castle framework. I've also written a .NET ExtDirect stack for which I'll be writing a few articles around due to its flexibility.  I decided to write yet another communication stack because all the implementations I found on the Ext forums were lacking any sort of flexibility.  So stay tuned... I'll be presenting a bunch of the extension points.

• Beat detection, weird detection

  I made this soundanalyzer class to detect beats in songs : // put it on pastebin for the big size, will put it here if people rather want that. pastebin.com/8PdgZPP3 but for some reason its only detecting beats from 637 sec to around 641(sec) and I have no idea why. I know the beats are being inserted from multiple bands since I am finding duplicates and it seems as its assigning a beat to each instant energy value in between those values. Its modeled after this : http://www.flipcode.com/misc/BeatDetectionAlgorithms.pdf So why won't the beats properly register ?

This post is interesting from a few fronts; firstly this is the out of the box experience, no specialized KMs so just basic integration from getting the software installed to running a mapping. • Resolving a cname using different DNS

  I have a domain name (e.g. abc.com) registered in GoDaddy and I have a few subdomains (mail, blog) correctly setup to a different hosts. Now I want to park my domain with a parking host (seohosting.com) which asked me to change my nameserver to their DNS. What I want is to only redirect dns queries for (www or @) cname to seohosting.com while still being able to use my other cname for my own purpose. Is there a way to do this? I dont have the host IP address for parking host.

• Black Screen on boot on a Lenovo IdeaPad Z575

  So I tried to install Wubi. On boot, when I select Ubuntu it starts then I get a purple screen then black screen. My monitor is like completely off. So then I have to hold down my power button and shut it off. I boot it up then held shift and typed in "nomodeset" after the second to last line, but then when it boot it went into the command prompt thing and just stopped after "checking battery" or something. This is my first time installing any linux distro. I want to install it alongside windows and dual boot it with wubi because that is easy and simple.   For the following website: Noaoomah Q&A I have two different Alexa rankings as follows: 1) The public ranking on Alexa siteinfo page of the website, that is the usual ranking page and it indicates a rank of 318,254 which they claim it is updated daily: http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/noaoomah.com 2) Another public and daily ranking of the same website but it is viewable using either the freely avaliable list for Top 1,000,000 Sites in this page at the almost top right or using StatsCrop website and this ranking indicates a rank of 253,753. Which one is more accurate? Why different daily rankings?

• How do I ask google not to index certain parts of my page?

  I was searching for an old review on my site today and I noticed that Google is indexing the headline text in my latest article list on every page that it appears, obviously I guess. The problem is if I search for my Dragon's Lair review specifically to my site like this http://www.google.co.za/search?sugexp=chrome,mod=9&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=site%3Alazygamer.net+dragons+lair+review Then it returns a ton of pages that aren't appropriate as they aren't related to the review at all. The reason why I care is that I have a second Dragon's Lair review that was posted years ago and now I can't find it. Is there a way to hint to google that certain text isn't relevant to the actual content on the page? is it a terrible idea?

• What did Stallman mean in this quote about implementing other languages in Lisp?

  I just read the following quote from Stallman as part of a speech he gave many years ago. He's talking about how it is feasible to implement other programming languages in Lisp, but not feasible to implement Lisp in those other programming languages. He seems to take for granted that the listeners/readers understand why. But I don't see why. I think the answer will explain something about Lisp to me, and I'd like to understand it. Can someone explain it? Here's the quote: "There's an interesting benefit you can get from using such a powerful language as a version of Lisp as your primary extensibility language. You can implement other languages by translating them into your primary language. If your primary language is TCL, you can't very easily implement Lisp by translating it into TCL. An example http://www.londonofficespace.com/ofdj17062004934429t.htm Title tag is: Unfurnished Office Space Wimbledon – Serviced Office on Lombard Road SW19 But is indexed as: Lombard Road – SW19 - London Office Space If you look in the source code and search for this portion ‘Lombard Road – SW19’ You then find that it's next to an office image alt=’Lombard Road – SW19’. The only thing I could think of is that the spider somehow ‘skips’ our title tag and grabs this bit, and then inserts the name of the site (but WHY?) Is there anything I can do with this? or is this a Google behaviour?

• Price comparison sites and its effect on Google ranking

  I am the webmaster of a website that contains roughly 10,000 products. I would be possibly interested to index those products in a price comparison site like PriceGrabber, Nextag, Shopbot, etc. The principle of price comparison sites is great for an actual user that want to compare prices but my main concern is the effect it could have on my actual ranking on Google... Since a site like Shopbot uses a CPC model (Cost-per-click), all the links on the website are builted to track clicks (IE: http://www.shopbot.ca/r.html?i=3&catc=2&refshop=5706&refshopcodeid=42587349), it uses redirection, no direct links (So no direct backlinking). In your opinion and/or experience, is this a smart, business wise, seo wise move or not? THANKS!

I could not play Silkroad online, so i asked Google and I found that there's application named Wine, and I found some commands to run in the Terminal, to install it. I did all that successfully. Then I tried to start the game, via wine, and I got this error. Now I don't know what I should do. On Youtube I saw players that can play Silkroad on Ubuntu without problems.   In Part 1 of this article series you developed a wizard in an ASP.NET MVC application. Although the wizard developed in Part 1 works as expected it has one shortcoming. It causes full page postback whenever you click on Previous or Next button. This behavior may not pose much problem if a wizard has only a few steps. However, if a wizard has many steps and each step accepts many entries then full page postback can deteriorate the user experience. To overcome this shortcoming you can add Ajax to the wizard so that only the form is posted to the server.
