• Advice on embedding video content via CMS - what format?

  Hi, if I set up the facility for people to embed video content on their site via their CMS (using TinyMCE editor), is there any reliable cross platform video format that should be used? From what I can find online, the only reliable way to embed and stream video is using FLV. Other formats seem to have caveats, e.g codecs required or quicktime updates required. Ideally I'd like to avoid this type of situation. If it is the case that FLV is the preferred option, then that involves asking people to encode their video content to FLV before uploading, so there is an extra step required here (unless I can set up the encoding in the back end, but this might take a while to process depending on the size of the video). Does anyone have any additional advice on this? The types of video i'd imagine people will be working with is raw camera footage, so i need to figure out the easiest and most reliable way of getting the footage on to a web page.

• How do Apple code level support requests work?

  I'm having an issue with a build that I can't figure out, and I'm considering filing a support request. It says I'll get contacted in about 3 days usually. Can anyone explain the process this takes, because I don't want to burn one of these by screwing up! Should I include a zip file of my entire project, or will the source file I'm having issues with be enough? Do I have to be at my computer when they contact me? Thanks for your help, generous ones!

• A consistent and simple group of IDE and tools for embedded code and unit test in C++ ?

  I’m starting a new firmware project in C++ for Texas Instrument C283xx and C6xxx targets. The unit tests will not run on the target, but will be compiled with gcc/gcov on a PC with windows (and run as well on PC) with simple metrics for tested code coverage. The whole project will be part of Cruise Control.NET for continuous integrations. My question is: what are the consistent IDE / framework / tools to work together? A/ One of the developers says CodeComposerStudio V3.1 for application and CodeBlocks + CxxUnit for the Unit tests. B/ I’m more attracted with CodeComposerStudio V4 for application, Eclipse CDT (well, as CCS V4) and CppUnit for unit test + MockCpp for mocks. I don’t want the best in class tools for each process, but a global, consistent and easy solution (or group of tools if you prefer).

  Hi, I`m making an online engine for item-to-item recommending movies. I have made some researches and I think that the best way to implement that is using pearson correlation and make a table with item1, item2 and correlation fields, but the problem is that after each rate of item I have to regenerate the correlation for in the worst case N records (where N is the number of items). Another think that I read is the following article, but I haven`t thought a way to implement it. So what is your suggestion to optimize this process? Or any other suggestions? Thanks.

• Whats the best method for queuing time-sensitive messages with PHP/MySQL?

  I'm building an SMS call and response system in a new app that receives a message via an aggregator gateway, checks it for functional keywords (run, stop, ask, etc), then processes it appropriately (save to the database, return an answer, or execute a task based on the users authorization). It's running fine at the moment as there are only a few users, but I figure its going to have more issues as we scale it up. We're currently running it on a single DV machine (mediatemple base dv). My question is this: does it make more sense to set something up like Memcached to run a queue, or a simple database with a daemon running to process each message one by one? I don't have much experience with either, so any advice would be helpful. Since the messaging is somewhat time-sensitive, what would be the fastest and most reliable way to handle this? Also, since we're sending responses, I'll probably need to set up and outbound message queue as well. Would it make sense to use the same concept for both?

• Processing an n-ary ANTLR AST one child at a time

  I currently have a compiler that uses an AST where all children of a code block are on the same level (ie, block.children == {stm1, stm2, stm3, etc...}). I am trying to do liveness analysis on this tree, which means that I need to take the value returned from the processing of stm1 and then pass it to stm2, then take the value returned by stm2 and pass it to stm3, and so on. I do not see a way of executing the child rules in this fashion when the AST is structured this way. Is there a way to allow me to chain the execution of the child grammar items with my given AST, or am I going to have to go through the painful process of refactoring the parser to generate a nested structure and updating the rest of the compiler to work with the new AST?   Hi all, I having trouble with passing http get parameters to jsf 2.0 backing bean. User will invoke URl with some params containing id of some entity, which is later used to persist some other entity in db. whole process can be summarized by fallowing: 1. user open page http://www.somhost.com/JsfApp/step-one.xhtml?sid=1 2. user fills some data and goes to next page 3. user fills some more data and then entity is saved to db with sid param from step one. I have session scoped backing bean that hold data from all the pages (steps), but I cant pass param to bean property.. any ideas?

• Running PHP 5.1 and 5.2 on debian squeeze

  I know that Debian Squeeze won't let me compile a PHP version (prior to 5.3.0). But I need them for migrating some tools: Joomla (1.0.10) and SugarCRM (4.2.1b). Actually, Joomla 1.0.10 can run on PHP 5.2, and SugarCRM on PHP 5.1. But both will complain running under PHP 5.3. So, I want to execute their upgrade process under their working PHP version, so after the upgrade, they may not complain anymore under PHP 5.3. FYI, Apache is not the only option I have as WebServer. Maybe I am wrong thinking this way, if so, please explain the differents steps I need. So the question is: How can I have these PHP versions running on Squeeze?

  We're in the process of replacing an old (5+ years) Windows service application built with VS2005 that makes an HTTP GET call. There are several things that make this difficult (such as the web server is on the customer's network and we can't connect directly to it) and, unfortunately, we'd prefer not to take down the running system to replace it with a WinForm version that can be monitored by Fiddler. The new code appears to be doing everything correctly, but, alas, it is failing to authenticate. Is there a way to configure Fiddler (2.2.9.1) to intercept HTTP calls from a Windows service?

  The INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE error is the bane of every Android developer's life. It happens regardless of app size, or how much storage is available. Rebooting the target device fixes the problem briefly, but it soon comes back. There are hundreds (if not thousands) of message board posts from people asking why the problem occurs, but the folks at Google are frustratingly silent on the issue. There is a simple workaround. If your test device is running Android 2.2 or later then add the android:installLocation attribute to your application's manifest file, with the value "preferExternal". This will force the app to be installed on the device's external storage, such as a phone's SD card. For example: <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="com.andrewsmith.android.darkness" android:installLocation="preferExternal" This is more of a band-aid than a fix, and it may not be ideal if you want your finished app to install on the device's internal memory. But it will at least make the development process a lot less frustrating.

  Hi everyone, A friend of mine is a Java developer, who's using *NIX for ages. He claims that *NIX is for real Java geeks, whereas WIN is for dummies (and I'm one of them, according to him) and girls. When I ask him to argue his position, and explain, what's so good for Java developer on *NIX, he starts talking about console, wget, curl and grep. But sorry, wget and curl analogues exist for the WIN platform as well. As for the console - I'm using FAR Commander, and have access to the command line when I need. Moreover, even if I decide moving to *NIX, I will certainly use Netbeans or Eclipse on it, so there will be no big difference. Guys, who use Java on *NIX, could you please give me some real killer examples, when *NIX (any util or technique) dramatically increases Java development productivity (in the way the hints are given in "The Pragmatic Programmer"), or, which is also important, gives more fun from the process. Now is mydesign.com available for sale by some domain broker sales bastards. And those bastards don't accept a first bid lower than 1000$ which is a about ten times of the budget I'm willing to pay. So far so good, it's a sick business model but it's there. Now lets imagine that mydesign.nl is a huge success in the Netherlands and I'm makin tons of profits out of advertisements and other things I'm not yet aware of (I know entering the lotery gives a better chance of earning money, but lets just imagine). Is there a way (licence, legal or otherwise) to prevent the sick owners of mydesign.com to download and steal my javascript app and deploy it on their own site and take the profits of my app?

• Using Durable Services for saving wcf instances

  I am currently creating a service which connects to a DAL and that can run a few stored procedures, one of the issues I am facing is that for certain times of the month, we can't update the database, (at the moment this is done manually. This is done via the user adding a note to their calendar) But I would like to automate this process, one of the possible solutions I can think of using is a durable service. When the date is lets say the 1st of the month, the Update/Insert/Delete instances can get saved to a database, and then ran after that date in a batch. Is this the intended use of durable services ? Is there a better route I could possibly take ?

My CSS file currently has classes like .size1, .size2 etc., and I have a CSS resource that looks like - class MyResource extends CSSResource { @ClassName("size1") String size1(); @ClassName("size2") String size2(); // And so on } However what I really want, is to have a single function like the following - String size(int size); which will generate the appropriate class when passed the size as an integer at runtime. This is needed as I perform some calculations to determine the actual space available/needed for a widget in javascript and then attach the appropriate class name.   Hi, First thing I would say is that I am a Drupal newbie. So, I would appreciate your answer in a detailed step by step process. I am using Drupal 6 and location module. There are two main content types - user profile (using content profile module) and event content type. Both have one field for location. Now, lets suppose in his profile, user is selecting city as Toronto and province as Ontario. And some events have been added for Toronto city. I need one Views, which will display events from user city. So, if user is from Vancouver, and they click on "my city events", they will see list of events from their city. Someone told me that I can achieve this using arguments/ relationships, but I don't know how to do that. Can someone please help me out? I am not good at PHP either :(

• Executing commands on a Unix box from ASP .NET

For example I'm creating a ASP .NET page to display the output of TOP. Also plan to be able to restart processes with the KILL -15 command. Now I wonder if there is any nice modules out the do the work for me or am I better off just going ahead with my own SSH communication? • Possible to map a new file extension to an existing handler in ASP.NET?

  I have a scenario where my application is going to be publishing services that are consumed by both PC's and mobile devices, and I have a HTTPModule that I want to only perform work on only the mobile requests. So I thought the best way of doing this was to point the mobile requests to a different file extension and have the HTTPModule decide to process only if the request targets this new extension. I don't need a custom HTTPHandler for the new extension; I want to program the services like a normal .ASMX service, just with a different extension. First, can I do this? If so, how do I do it so that requests to my new extension are handled just like .ASMX requests? Second, is this the right approach? • Any way to animate new elements in a GridView being added?

  My app polls a server every 15 seconds to see if there are any new items to display, then downloads the new items and disposes of the old items so that there are always exactly 100 items in the GridView. Unfortunately, this process can be confusing to the user if they see a page of images change without knowing where the items went. My idea is that there could be some kind of animation (such as the new items being inserted at the top and pushing the older ones down the list) to show what action is happening. Unfortunately, I have no clue how to make this animation happen. Is my idea even possible? How would I accomplish this?
