• iPhone: What is the best approach to changing the sound of a rolling ball based on speed?

  I need to play a sound of a ball rolling and change the sound based on the ball's speed. I was using AVFoundation and just playing different samples but that didn't sound natural enough. I tried OpenAL and something like: alSourcef(sourceID, AL_PITCH, thePitch); and passing in thePitch, but didn't like the results. Does anyone have any suggestions or examples / tutorials? Thanks.

  according to some tutorials i read a while back, the "const" declaration makes a variable "constant" ie it cannot change later. But i find this const declaration abit inconveniencing since the compiler sometimes gives errors like "cannot convert const int to int" or something like that. and i find myself cheating by removing it anyway. question: assuming that i am careful about not changing a variable in my source code, can i happily forget about this const stuff? But on a server used for online gaming, you might have 10k concurrent users - 10k threads isn't probably a wonderful idea. I came across a tool (SmartFox) which claims to use a single thread for monitoring all socket connections, potentially thousands of them. This app happens to be in Java, but I figure C++ or C# could do the same... how would you achieve this?
