• Internet access using Edimax BR-6204WG as NIC

  My internet access at home is provided by Virgin Media via their superhub. I have a laptop with no NIC - however I do have a spare wireless router, the Edimax BR-6204WG, which I have been led to believe can be used to bridge wireless connections. Only problem is, I'm not sure how to go about doing this. The manual for the device is here:- http://www.edimax.co.uk/images/Image/manual/Wireless/BR-6204Wg/BR-6204Wg_Manual.pdf Basically, I want to be able to connect the Edimax wireless router to my laptop using ethernet cable and to use it to pick up the wireless connection from my Virgin superhub.   I keep getting an IP conflict on my home network and can't figure out why. I'm running a Belkin-N wireless router that has an Ethernet connection to my 360 and a wireless connection running to my laptop. It's WPA2 encryption and I have a nice password on my router consisting of letters , numbers and special characters. But for some reason I keep getting IP conflicts at night time...By the time I look into the problem I don't see anyone else on the network. Is my router giving me false positives?

• Need advice to choose correct wi-fi drivers for Dell Vostro 3560

  I'm having problems with my Dell notebook's Wi-Fi, it can't see some of the available access points, despite they are close and I used to be connected to them yesterday. Other notebooks and my phone can see them. I believe it's a driver issue, since after installing system I haven't downloaded any network drivers. • How to prevent dial up networking connection window from coming up on Windows 7?

  I have PPP over Ethernet connection at home, so I have a dial up connection set up which comes up every time when I log in, so I can connect to the net by clicking on it. This works fine, but now I got a router which does the connection automatically, so there is no need for the dial up networking connecting window to come up. Nevertheless it comes up everytime when I log in regardless of the living net connection already established by the router. It does not cause any error I only have to cancel the dialog, but it's a nuisance and I can't find any setting to make it stop. Of course, I could remove the networking connection altogether, but I'd rather keep it, so I don't have to create it again if sometimes I need to connect to the net directly without the router. Is there a way to stop the connection dialog from coming up without removing the networking connection?

• Methodologies for performance-testing a WAN link

  We have a pair of new diversely-routed 1Gbps Ethernet links between locations about 200 miles apart. The 'client' is a new reasonably-powerful machine (HP DL380 G6, dual E56xx Xeons, 48GB DDR3, R1 pair of 300GB 10krpm SAS disks, W2K8R2-x64) and the 'server' is a decent enough machine too (HP BL460c G6, dual E55xx Xeons, 72GB, R1 pair of 146GB 10krpm SAS disks, dual-port Emulex 4Gbps FC HBA linked to dual Cisco MDS9509s then onto dedicated HP EVA 8400 with 128 x 450GB 15krpm FC disks, RHEL 5.3-x64). Using SFTP from the client we're only seeing about 40Kbps of throughput using large (2GB) files. We've performed server to 'other local server' tests and see around 500Mbps through the local switches (Cat 6509s), we're going to do the same on the client side but that's a day or so away. What other testing methods would you use to prove to the link providers that the problem is theirs?

By example, a user is at home with his laptop, connected to his home wifi connection. He leaves and comes to the office but the Wifi is still enabled. • Detect an IP address of a Wireless Access Point device

  I have a Wireless Access Point device (http://www.szedup.com/show.aspx?id=1706), which I am planning to put into BeagleBoard-xM, in order to achieve wireless communication (LAN). However, I can't find it's IP address. I mean, I have to know it's IP address in order to connect with BeagleBoard-xM via a terminal emulator. For the moment, I have this device connected via Ethernet on my router. My router's setting page shows I have this device connected, but no further information. Is there any way to find the IP address of the Wireless Access Point? I hope of being understood. Any help would be really appreciated.

  a friend of mine asked me to re-install his Asus F5Z notebook with Windows XP. I installed succcessfully all drivers from assus driver download site. Everything is working fine but ethernet driver. The installation of Lan Driver for WIN XP finishes with strange message "Please shutdown & plug Realtech PCI-e card to complete the installation. Not sure if it matters but OnChip SATA is in 'Native IDE' mode . The original one with Vista was 'IDE - AHCI mode'. Any idea how I can make the LAN adapter to work under Windows XP?

• Routing table change to access Internet over mifi

  I have two networks at home. One uses a Verizon mifi wireless on 192.168.1.1. The other uses a dlink router on 192.168.0.1. I have one laptop with two nics, one wireless and one not. The wireless nic connects to the mifi. The Ethernet nic connects to the dlink router. It's ip is 192.168.0.2. I also have a laptop with only one nic connected to the dlink on 192.168.0.3. I want to connect laptop 2 to the Internet. Can I do that by adding an entry to the routing table so that destination 0.0.0.0 routes to 192.168.0.2? If I do that, will laptop 1 "know" that it should route traffic from 192.168.0.3 to 192.168.1.1? Thanks for any assistance.

• Disconnected from WiFi, Windows claims otherwise [closed]

  I'm connected via wifi to my ISP's router/modem. While Windows says that I'm always connected, I keep getting messages from Netgear Genie that I've lost contact to the Internet, and I cannot access webpages until it comes back. There are two other computers in the house, one connected to the router via ethernet, the other via wifi, both seem to have no such problems. I've wondered if Netgear genie itself was the problem, but I am regularly disconnected even if I uninstall it. And I'd rather have it since it accurently tells me if I'm connected or not. Why does windows says I'm online if I can't access any online game, or website ? I've removed the connection, recreated it, I've even copied the settings to a usb key from the computer that has wifi access. Is there a tool that can tell me which program, if any, is disconecting me ?

• Significant OS X Finder lag when listing directories/files

  I'm experiencing some significant OS X finder lag, that seems to be purely an issue with Finder itself, and not the HD or any other part of OS X (I'll explain below). The lag only appears to be when listing directories/files, where I'm seeing up to twelve or so seconds of lag (the folder opens with a blank list and the spinner going in the bottom right). This happens with both the local SSD and network drives (connected via ethernet or wifi) Browsing both local and network drives in terminal and listing directories is instant I can actually browse files on my NAS from my phone over a 3G connection from the other side of the country faster than Finder can when connected to the local network (madness!) • What's the fastest way to store/access large files?

  I do a lot of video editing on my Mac and need a way to store very large (30 GB) files, and don't have room on my HD. A USB/Firewire external hard drive would work, but it seems way too slow for consistently working with such large files. I've also considered buying another computer, with a large hard drive, and putting it on the same network with a shared folder. What's the fastest / most efficient way to do this?   Hi We are getting a new internet connection installed and will need to unplug the old one and connect this to our ISA Server 2000. Will this be a simple swap out job? We will be given a new ip, which i know i will have to enter into the external network card TCP/IP page. I will also be given the default gateway to enter. The ISP engineer said we may have to reset the ARP? cache, if we dont know how we will have to reset the ISA server? Has anyone any experience? I would like to make my own subnet, with a box in-between my subnet and the shared wireless router, so that I can learn about IDS, traffic analysis, etc. I was also given a cisco PIX firewall to play around with, and it'd be an added bonus if I could incorporate that into my network.   I need to save data to a Coraid SR2421. I am no expert and I'm trying to understand how this costy piece of hardware works. All I have is a Ethernet cable connecting my laptop and the coraid to a switch and the coraid's console with cursor blinking. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. edit and further explanation: I've tried using software on the coraid website but It's not working. So I've contacted the support and they sent me a file to upload on the coraid. It looks like if I upgrade coraid's firmware then I'll be able to use the coraid software on the windows side. That's why I'd need SCP/FTP or any kind of solution to copy a file in the partition that can be read from coraid console command line so I can launch the update command as requested. • Cannot assign port 4 to WAN on TP-Link WR740N by DD-WRT wiki

  I'm following the DD-WRT instruction to get TP-Link WR740N v3's Port 4 on a different VLAN, but this doesn't happen. First, I have no "Setup VLANs" settinngs tab in DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/20/12) std r19519. I can get Internet on Wi-Fi if assigning eth1 to "WAN Port", but then all Ethernet ports get on the same VLAN and any wired connection grabs the DHCP address and Internet connection from router. When following the "old" instruction, if I run, say, nvram set vlan2ports="2 5*", should there appear a new interface, vlan2, in ifconfig, after ifconfig vlan2 up? It doesn't - does it mean there is no support for different VLANs in my software/hardware? What am I missing? Is it impossible to create more VLANs on TP-Link740?

• One NIC going to sleep on Centos system

  I have two Dell boxes with two ethernet ports a piece. I have a cable directly connecting two of these ports, creating a tiny LAN with 10.3.3.x addresses. The other port on each box is hooked up to a switch and has a DHCP-supplied address to talk to the outside world. I've noticed that when scp'ing large files from one box to the other over the private LAN, the transfers sometimes stall. It appears that any other network activity on either box will cause the transfer to resume. Wake-on-LAN is disabled on all interfaces according to ethtool. What else could be causing these stalled transfers?
