  • iphone dev - loading table content asynchronously

    - by Brian
My app has a navigation controller which push and pop a series of views. One of the tableViews loads .xml file from URL and it takes 4-5 seconds. If I click the back button on the navigation bar, it will only respond after the content of the table finish loading. Is there an easy way to load the content asynchronously so that the app will still respond to my gesture on the navigation bar? p.s. I search this on the Internet and people are talking about multithreading. I don't know a lot about threads so please be more specific. Thanks in advanced =)

  • 3D Mesh Joining

    - by morlst
I have 2 (or more) intersecting meshes, which require joining into 1 mesh object. I want to have some control over the resulting seam vertex insertion, so looking to write myself rather than use a library. Has anyone come across some open source code to base the algorithm on / ideas on the process? Initial impressions are: 1. Present in every 3D modelling program - mostly reinventing existing process (hence search for examples) 2. Potential for fiddly-ness around the polygon face direction and just touching conditions. (see above point)

  • Python code, extracting extensions

    - by user1434001
import os path = '/Users/Marjan/Documents/Nothing/Costco' print path names = os.listdir(path) print len(names) for name in names: print name Here is the code I've been using, it lists all the names in this category in terminal. There are a few filenames in this file (Costco) that don't have .html and _files. I need to pick them out, the only issue is that it has over 2,500 filenames. Need help on a code that will search through this path and pick out all the filenames that don't end with .html or _files. Thanks guys

  • acts_as_ferret with multiple hosts

    - by Nick
I've got everything working with ferret and acts_as_ferret for development (or localhost DRb), but I can't get my multiple host deployment working. All of the remote systems get ECONNREFUSED when accessing the port. On the ferret server, the daemon is listening on localhost only despite the configuration listing the FQDN as the host. I also tried switching to a UNIX socket to share data between the ferret DRb daemon and the app code but it too gets ECONNREFUSED. (The socket is available to all of the machines via an NFS mount). Is there a better way to do this or should I be looking for another search indexer? Thanks.

  • Recover a deleted webpage

    - by rc
Suppose, a blog or a nice article was hosted on a website and it got deleted or worse the website was brought down. How do you view that web page? I tried searching for the cached version in Google. But, looks like the content was deleted long ago and is not listed in the search results directly. There are annotations to the link from many other sites, but still the actual content is not fully available. Now, can anybody help me see this page... I am actually looking for http://effectize.com/become-coolest-programmer :) And, moreover, in addition to bookmarking a favorite link, is it possible to cache the content of the link as well for later reference in case it gets deleted? EDIT: Looks like a URL can be cached for future reference. Try: http://backupurl.com/

  • Wildcard in query for ASP.NET GridView

    - by cinu
I am using GridView in ASP.NET 2.0. I am want to show the details from 3 tables (SQL2005) in the GridView per my search crieteria (Name of Visitor,Passport Number,Name of Company). It is working, but I want to use a wildcard for searching by first letter of "Name of Visitor". I have my code in the QueryBuilder in GridView (using Configure Datasource). The query is as follows: SELECT FormMaster.NameofCompany, VisitorMaster.NameofVisitor, VisitorMaster.PassportNumber, FormMaster.FormID, VisitorMaster.VisitorID FROM VisitorMaster INNER JOIN VisitorDetails ON VisitorMaster.VisitorID = VisitorDetails.VisitorID INNER JOIN FormMaster ON VisitorDetails.FormID = FormMaster.FormID WHERE (FormMaster.FormStatusID = 1) AND (VisitorMaster.PassportNumber = @PassportNumber ) OR (VisitorMaster.NameofVisitor = @NameofVisitor) OR (FormMaster.NameofCompany = @NameofCompany )

  • JavaScript eval() with `this`

    - by mojuba
If I define a JavaScript code snippet in my HTML, like so: <div id=myElem onMyUpdate="alert('Update called for ' + this.id)">... then what is the most elegant way of evaluating it from within JavaScript with this properly assigned? What I came up with so far is something like this: if (elem.hasAttribute('onMyUpdate')) (function () { eval(elem.getAttribute('onMyUpdate')) }).call(elem); which looks terrible (to me), but works. Any better/more elegant alternatives? MDN says there used to be the second argument to eval() for doing just that but it's deprecated now; MDN then suggests to use operator with() instead, which, if you follow the link provided, turns out to be made deprecated by the latest standard. Dead end, in other words. (As a side note, StackOverflow ignores the word this in search terms and thus it may miss relevant answers - is there a way of telling it not to?) Edit: I forgot to mention: no jQuery please, just vanilla JavaScript

  • regular expression not behaving as expected - Python

    - by philippe
I have the following function which is supposed to read a .html file and search for <input> tags, and inject a <input type='hidden' > tag into the string to be shown into the page. However, that condition is never met:( e.g the if statement is never executed. ) What's wrong with my regex? def print_choose( params, name ): filename = path + name f = open( filename, 'r' ) records = f.readlines() print "Content-Type: text/html" print page = "" flag = True for record in records: if re.match( '<input*', str(record) ) != None: print record page += record page += "<input type='hidden' name='pagename' value='psychology' />" else: page += record print page Thank you

  • findBy(x) Using Zend_Navigation with custom route

    - by Stephen
I am creating my navigation from a db generated array and defining which route to use for some of the uris. when I set the route i am no longer able to use findByUri() as the uri seems to be moved under the properties key example array being used: [id] => 7 [label] => Legal [controller] => index [uri] => /legal [route] => cmsPage [visible] => 1 [params] => Array ( [first] => legal ) snippet of the output: [_properties:protected] => Array ( [uri] => /legal [created] => 2012-10-20 10:23:23 ) When I don't define the route I am able to use findByUri() successfully. currently I am looping through each to find the property that matches the request but it seems a long / wrong approach Is there a way to search by the nested param - or am i doing something wrong with the setup (everything else behaves as expected)

  • Using MySQL as a job queue

    - by user237815
I'd like to use MySQL as a job queue. Multiple machines will be producing and consuming jobs. Jobs need to be scheduled; some may run every hour, some every day, etc. It seems fairly straightforward: for each job, have a "nextFireTime" column, and have worker machines search for the job with the nextFireTime, change the status of the record to "inProcess", and then update the nextFireTime when the job ends. The problem comes in when a worker dies silently. It won't be able to update the nextFireTime or set the status back to "idle". Unfortunately, jobs can be long-running, so a reaper thread that looks for jobs that have been inProcess too long isn't an option. There's no timeout value that would work. Can anyone suggest a design pattern that would properly handle unreliable worker machines?

  • Tags php improving database speed and user experience

    - by Doodle
How did stackOverFlow, excuse me if it wasn't the first implementation of this system. Decide what its initial tags where? I want to provide users with the best experience on my site and am implementing a tags system. I don't care about search engines or any of that. I just care about my users. Does any one have any advice about things that have failed or succeeded when they allowed users to tag things? Does any one know some good resources about the methodologies of user tagging? Does any one know some good resources about implementing a tags system from a programming perspective, database structures, theories, etc ? I'll give my check to who ever I feel points me in the best direction on the subject.

  • Dropdown list with a "Select All" option

I have three dropdown boxes, Region, District, and City. I want my District dropdown to have a "Select All" option so the user can get all Cities in the Region, else just display the City based on the selected District. My query looks like this: IF @district =-2 THEN (SELECT DISTINCT city FROM myTable WHERE RIGHT(Region, 3) = ?) ORDER BY city) ELSE (select DISTINCT city FROM myTable WHERE District = ?) Order by city I'm using vb.net/sql I couldn't find any complex case scenarios in my search either. Any sugguestions would be appreciated!

  • Class properties vs NSArray / NSDictionary

    - by Frank Martin
I want a custom class object to hold data and have somehow the feeling that creating about 80 properties is not the best way of doing it. Most of the properties would be bool values, so i'm thinking about creating Arrays (keys / values) or (probably better) a NSDictionary attached to the object for holding the data. Does that make sense or should i stay with the properties? Extra: Are there general pros and cons for the different approaches? And what keywords / concepts do i have to search for to find discussions about that somehow general question? Thanks in advance

  • Python frequency detection

    - by Tsuki
Ok what im trying to do is a kind of audio processing software that can detect a prevalent frequency an if the frequency is played for long enough (few ms) i know i got a positive match. i know i would need to use FFT or something simiral but in this field of math i suck, i did search the internet but didn not find a code that could do only this. the goal im trying to accieve is to make myself a custom protocol to send data trough sound, need very low bitrate per sec but im also very limited on the transmiting end so the recieving software will need to be able custom (cant use an actual hardware/software modem) also i want this to be software only (no additional hardware except soundcard) thanks alot for the help.

  • In Perl, can I limit the length of a line as I read it in from a file (like fgets)

    - by SB
I'm trying to write a piece of code that reads a file line by line and stores each line, up to a certain amount of input data. I want to guard against the end-user being evil and putting something like a gig of data on one line in addition to guarding against sucking in an abnormally large file. Doing $str = <FILE> will still read in a whole line, and that could be very long and blow up my memory. fgets lets me do this by letting me specify a number of bytes to read during each call and essentially letting me split one long line into my max length. Is there a similar way to do this in perl? I saw something about sv_gets but am not sure how to use it (though I only did a cursory Google search). Thanks.

  • I need to count the lines from matching config file entries, preferably with 'grep'.

    - by Chris
I have a configuration file that has entries for various devices, with each entry separated by a blank line. I need to search the file for all instances of a given device type, and count the number of non-blank lines following the occurrence, stopping at the first blank. For example: Server=foo config line 1 config line 2 config line 3 Server=bar config line 1 config line 2 Server=foo config line 1 If I wanted to know how many total "config lines" were associated with server "foo", I should get four. Can you please help?

  • LINQ query for tag system: Matching any of several tags?

    - by David Veeneman
I am just getting started with LINQ. I am creating an Entity Framework app that uses the canonical Post and Tag model. A Post contains an ID, Text, and Tags, and a Tag contains an ID, a Name, and Posts. A previous thread on StackOverflow showed me how to query for a Post that matches all Tag objects (A and B and C) in a search list. But how would I query for a Post that matches any Tag (A or B or C) in the list? Thanks for your help.

  • Quick to develop web app in Java

    - by Mike Q
Hi all, I need to develop a basic web app very quickly (1 week) for a demo. My requirements are Java (I need to make use of existing Java libraries to access the relevant data) 2 screens One for static data view, maybe some search parameters Other for basic form entry No fancy AJAX required Ideally easy for a web designer to come in and tart it up as necessary, without having to rewrite everything My first stop was going to be to checkout Wicket as I've heard good things about it. I don't have the time right now to dive into anything heavy, which probably writes off JSF in my mind (I played with JSF1, steep learning curve which I've now slid back down). I'm happy to treat the result as throwaway so if there's a framework which starts of well but then doesn't scale up to bigger projects, that would be ok. Any suggestions appreciated on frameworks/approach.

  • Importing CSV with line breaks in Excel 2007

    - by ph0enix
I'm working on a feature to export search results to a CSV file to be opened in Excel. One of the fields is a free-text field, which may contain line breaks, commas, quotations, etc. In order to counteract this, I have wrapped the field in double quotes ("). However, when I import the data into Excel 2007, set the appropriate delimiter, and set the text qualifier to double quote, the line breaks are still creating new records at the line breaks, where I would expect to see the entire text field in a single cell. I've also tried replacing CR/LF (\r\n) with just CR (\r), and again with just LF (\n), but no luck. Has anyone else encountered this behavior, and if so, how did you fix it? TIA, -J

  • List.AddRange inline declaration

    - by AJ
Hello, This may seem an easy question, but not to me, also a search has led to nothing. Up until now the only .net programming I have done is with Delphi Prism. With Prism I can do things like: var l := new List<String>(['A','B','C']); or var l := new List<String>; l.AddRange(['A','B','C']; but can I do a similar thing in C#, or do I have to do it like: var a = new String[] {"A","B","C"}; var l = new List<String>(a); Thanks, AJ

  • Excel VBA: Alternate Row Color in Range

    - by Kurt
I spent a VERY long time today looking up a method to alternate row colors within a specified range. There really isn't a lot out there and to be honest what I found just looked over-complicated. So, I decided to stop acting like a shameless 'script-kiddy' and put the below sample together: Sub AlternateRowColors() Dim lastRow as Long lastRow = Range("A1").End(xlDown).Row For Each Cell In Range("A1:A" & lastRow) ''change range accordingly If Cell.Row Mod 2 = 1 Then ''highlights row 2,4,6 etc|= 0 highlights 1,3,5 Cell.Interior.ColorIndex = 15 ''color to preference Else Cell.Interior.ColorIndex = xlNone ''color to preference End If Next Cell End Sub Now I know that works, but I was wondering if there's a simpler method? If so, please do tell because I'm very eager to learn simplification as I have a tendency to write verbose code at present. If not, then may this entry find it's way to page 1 of Google for it's search term(s), because it took me absolutely ages to find anything even remotely useful. Comments left for script-kiddies' benefit.

  • How Can I Implement This In Java?

    - by davit-datuashvili
first of all i am doing programs in java language this code is merely taken from web site i have not question about divide and conqurer algorithms but about function and it's argument here is code of ternary search def ternarySearch(f, left, right, absolutePrecision): #left and right are the current bounds; the maximum is between them if (right - left) < absolutePrecision: return (left + right)/2 leftThird = (2*left + right)/3 rightThird = (left + 2*right)/3 if f(leftThird) < f(rightThird): return ternarySearch(f, leftThird, right, absolutePrecision) return ternarySearch(f, left, rightThird, absolutePrecision) i am not asking once again how implement it in java i am asking for example how define function?for example let y=x^+3 yes we can determine it as public static int y(int x){ return x*x+3; } but here return ternarySearch(f, leftThird, right, absolutePrecision) function f does not have argument and how do such?please help me

  • image map alternative (maybe in javascript?)

    - by squids
Alright, so I was wondering if there was an alternative, lightweight way to creating an image map. Basically, I want to take this image: And have the sections of the diagram light up when they are hovered over, kinda like this (I've mocked it up in photoshop): The other sections (which I haven't named yet) should be able to do the same. Also, I'd like to be able to use javascript later to have sliding links appear from behind those sections (I roughly know how to do that now, so I'm okay that) Does anyone have any suggestions? Just a general direction on what to search for would be great.

  • Cure for puzzle piece programming habbits?

    - by Recursion
Even though I went to a decent CS school, I was still taught with the mentality of programming with puzzle pieces. By puzzle pieces I mean, looking up code segments at each step of the development process and adding them together as needed. Eventually gathering all of the pieces and having a properly working program. So as an example, if in my program the next step is to tokenize a string, I go to google and search "how do I tokenize a string in language". All instead of critically thinking about its implementation. I personally don't think its a very good way to program and I always seem to forget everything that I have searched for. So how can I get out of this puzzle piece mode of programmer that I was taught.

  • Default datetime format in mySQL

    - by Davuz
I'm coding to search data by compare datetime. In web form, user input value '2012-06-04' store in $_REQUEST['dateSearch']. I create datetime object from that: $dateObj = date_create_from_format("Y-m-d",$_REQUEST['dateSearch']); $dateParam = $dateObj->format("Y-m"); Then I use $dateParam in sql query to find data $sql = " SELECT * FROM `temp` as `t` WHERE `t`.`date` LIKE '$dateParam%' "; Everything is ok, but I'm not sure mySQL alway use only one datetime format "Y-m-d H:i:s". At here, $dateParam = $dateObj->format("Y-m"); I set default format is "Y-m". Is the default format never change? I don't want hard set format "Y-m-d H:i:s" in code, instead of, I think get format string from system to use is better. How do I get default datetime format string from mySQL???
