• Triple monitor setup in linux

  I'm hoping there are some xorg gurus out there. I'm trying to get a three monitor setup working in linux. I have 2 lcd monitors and a tv, all different resolutions. I'm using 2 video cards; a 9800 GTX and 7900Gt. I've seen a lot of different posts about people trying to make this work, and in every case, they either gave up, or Xinerama magically solved all their problems. Basically, my main problem is that I cannot get Xinerama to work. Every time I turn it on in the options, my machine gets stuck in a neverending boot cycle. If I disable Xinerama, I just have three Xorg screens, but I can't drag windows from one to the other. I can get the 2 lcds on Twinview, and the tv on a separate Xorg screen no problem. But I don't really like this solution. I'd rather have them all on separate screens and stitch them together with Xinerama. Has anyone done this? Here's my xorg.conf for reference. p.s. This took me all of 30 seconds to set up in Windows XP! p.s.s. I've seen somewhere that maybe randr can solve my problems? But I'm not quite sure how? • Uninstall php and nginx or fix setup

  First off, I'm a huge linux noob - sorry... I'm trying to setup nginx with php-fpm on debian and I'm pretty sure that I've completely screwed it up. nginx seems to be running fine because I can it it from a web browser and it load the stock "Welcome to nginx!" page. I'm not so sure about php-fpm though. When I try something like # restart php-fpm I get: bash: restart: command not found First off php-fpm some how got installed as php5-fpm when I do root@server:/etc/init.d# ls, which seems to contradict every tutorial and help doc I've read (supposed to be 'php-fpm'). I would like this folder to be in my user's home directory ie: /home/administrator/www or /home/nginx/www. I know in order to do this I need to modify nginx.conf, but I find that configuration file difficult to understand. I suppose the fact that my .php scripts aren't being handled is my bigger problem anyways. When I try to see what running on port 9000 (php-fpm default port) with lsof -i :9000 it returns nothing - I guess indicating that it isn't listening. then I head over to vim /etc/php5/fpm/php-fpm.conf and there is no where to designate a port number. So should I just uninstall everything and start from scratch? If so, how do I clean it all up? Any suggestions for a tutorial once I'm ready to try again? Should I attempt to troubleshoot this mess? If so where should I start? Sorry guys, I'm feeling pretty stupid and lost right now. I'm not sure what my next steps are in trying to resolve this issue are. I realize that this is a horrible question for this type of Q&A site, but I'd really appreciate any guidance.

I'm trying to achieve this the 'css-way' - setting the left and right margin to 'auto'. But this doesn' work, it seems the margins are just ignored. • Uiscrollview displayed with focus at its center iphone sdk

  Hi all, I'm having a scrollview and a view over it both of which I'm creating through interface builder. But whenever I run the program the scrollview displays the part of the view which is almost at its center. It is scrollable, so when I pull it down, I can see the text in the view above but when I leave it's again positioned the earlier way i.e. somewhat down the actual (0,0) position. Can anybody hint me at the property which should be set in order to fix this?

  Hi, I have a little problem which I could not solve. I really hope someone can help me with that. I wanted to resize the live camera view and place it in the center, using the following code below: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformScale(picker.cameraViewTransform, 0.5, 0.56206); picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformTranslate(picker.cameraViewTransform, 80, 120); But all I got was a scaled 1/2 sized view on the top left of the screen. It seems as though "CGAffineTransformTranslate" does nothing at all. The translation didn't work even when I used: picker.cameraViewTransform = CGAffineTransformMake(1, 0, 0, 1, 80, 120); The translation portion seems to have no effect on the live camera view. Hope someone can enlighten me. Thanks.

• Kernel panic when altering system_call in entry.S

  I'm trying to implement a system call counter, and as a result I included an int value in task_struct, and a function that increments it in a separate file. This function is supposed to be called from system_call right before it actually calls the required sys_call (I have my reasons to call it before and not after). However, if I place it before the sys_call then after compiling and booting there's a kernel panic ("tried to kill init_idle"), and if I place it right after the sys_call, it works. What's the difference and how do I overcome this? • Linux Fiber Channel Host Setup Basic

  I've been googling for about 4 hours now with no luck. I am trying to setup a Linux server running Oracle Server 6.3 as a Fiber Channel host. And then connect it to a Dell Compellent Fibre Channel Host contain a 500GB Volume. The Oracle server itself contains two Brocade 815 FC HBAs. I've discovered their WWN(I think) via cat /sys/class/fc_host/host1/port_name 0x100000051efc3d85 cat /sys/class/fc_host/host2/port_name 0x100000051efc3d9f The next part is where I am at a loss. I've used iSCSI before...is FC the same deal where you have an initiator and a target? If so where do I specific that in linux? I'm also new to Fiber Channel as a protocol, so i am unsure what is needed to make a transaction? WWN and port ID? Similar to IP:Port combination in the Ethernet world. I've read alot regarding using systool, multipath, fc_transport commands, however none of these is recognized as a valid command from Oracle Server 6.3 Appreciate the guidance and assistance. • "Hostile" network in the company - please comment on a security setup

  I have a little specific problem here that I want (need) to solve in a satisfactory way. My company has multiple (IPv4) networks that are controlled by our router sitting in the middle. Typical smaller shop setup. There is now one additional network that has an IP Range OUTSIDE of our control, connected to the internet with another router OUTSIDE of our control. Call it a project network that is part of another companies network and combined via VPN they set up. This means: They control the router that is used for this network and They can reconfigure things so that they can access the machines in this network. The network is physically split on our end through some VLAN capable switches as it covers three locations. At one end there is the router the other company controls. I Need / want to give the machines used in this network access to my company network. In fact, it may be good to make them part of my active directory domain. The people working on those machines are part of my company. BUT - I need to do so without compromising the security of my company network from outside influence. Any sort of router integration using the externally controlled router is out by this idea So, my idea is this: We accept the IPv4 address space and network topology in this network is not under our control. We seek alternatives to integrate those machines into our company network. The 2 concepts I came up with are: Use some sort of VPN - have the machines log into VPN. Thanks to them using modern windows, this could be transparent DirectAccess. This essentially treats the other IP space not different than any restaurant network a laptop of the company goes in. Alternatively - establish IPv6 routing to this ethernet segment. But - and this is a trick - block all IPv6 packets in the switch before they hit the third party controlled router, so that even IF they turn on IPv6 on that thing (not used now, but they could do it) they would get not a single packet. The switch can nicely do that by pulling all IPv6 traffic coming to that port into a separate VLAN (based on ethernet protocol type). Anyone sees a problem with using he switch to isolate the outer from IPv6? Any security hole? It is sad we have to treat this network as hostile - would be a lot easier - but the support personnel there is of "known dubious quality" and the legal side is clear - we can not fulfill our obligations when we integrate them into our company while they are under a jurisdiction we don't have a say in.

• How to center an R plot

  I'm working on visualizing a matrix in R (almost exactly like http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/MatrixPlot.html), and I've been using image(<matrix>,axes=FALSE) to draw the picture. However, I noticed that with the y-axis turned off, the plot isn't centered--the space is still there for the axis ticks + label. I can finagle some centering with par(oma=c(0,0,0,2.5)) but this seems inefficient and error-prone (if my matrix were to change dimensions/become non-square). Is there a better way to force the graphic to center? The right hand margin is significantly smaller than the left.

• graphviz dot: how to insert arrows from a node to center of an arrow

  Hi everyone, I try to create diagrams for MPLUS analyses with dot from the graphviz package. Does anybody have experience with using dot to visualize structural equation models/latent class mixture models? There is especially one feature that I can't figure out how to do beautifully: I need arrows from nodes to the center of another arrow like C | | V A ------------> B I tried to insert an invisible node at the intersection of the arrows. This, however, results in a "cracked" A---B arrow because dot does represent it as two independent arrows. Is this even possible with dot? Thanks for suggestions and help! Gregor

  Hi, I just installed Help Center Live which works fine, but I would like to make just one minor adjustment and after looking almost everywhere I couldn't find the file where the text was listen in. At the end of each chat the user can request a copy of the transcript. I tested it and it got into the spam folder of my email client. Why, I don't know, but the point here is I would lik to add some text. After a user finishes a chat session, he or she gets a page hcl/live/chat/end.php with the following text displayed somewhere: "To e-mail yourself a copy of the transcript, please enter your e-mail address below." After entering the address and pressing submit there is a confirmation message: "A copy of the transcript has been sent to your e-mail address." And I would like to add: "Please check your spam folder if you haven't received your transcript" How can this be done? Thanks.

• Best RAID setup for multimedia fileserver?

  I'm building a fileserver for my small office. We do film and multimedia design. Only 3 clients connected. The server is primarily for local access to graphic assets and video files. I'm looking for advice on hardware and software required. Particularly for the RAID. I have the following objectives: A) merged capacity I'd like all other systems to access the data as a single mapped network drive that has an initial capacity of 10 TB. So perhaps 5x 2TB drives (plus mirror drives for redundancy). B) easy way to increase capacity Thinking long term, I'd like to 'easily' add more drives to the array for a potential two or three fold increase in capacity. So theoretically it could get upto a 30 TB raid array consisting of maybe 15x 2 TB drives of capacity (plus mirror drives for redundancy). C) maximum fault tolerance I want at least 1 mirror drive per capacity drive (in laymen's terms). So if I start with 10 TB / 5x 2TB of capacity, I suppose I would need another another 5x 2TB drives to be mirrors. So 10 drives total. But I'd also like potential for even more redundancy; with upto 2 additional mirrors per 'capacity drive' (and to be able to add them to the array anytime with ease). D) easy way to monitor drive health I'd like an intuitive interface for managing the raid and monitoring drive health The other systems accessing this network drive will be running Windows, but also the odd Ubuntu and MacOS system as well. Are these objectives attainable? What type of RAID setup do you recommend? What hardware will be required? Also what OS do you think this system should be running? Does it really matter? I'm no network admin - just a long time Windoze user, without much Linux experience. That said, I'm not opposed to a Linux solution if it's easy enough and more practical than a Windows OS for this server. Or maybe something such as Openfiler. Budget should hit the sweet spot for value and performance (hence my preference to use 2TB drives). The biggest focus is storage; aside from that the system just needs to keep the drives running optimally with perhaps 2 or 3 clients accessing / writing files at any given time. • ruby on rails gitorious setup on ubuntu

  Ive been trying to install gitorious for a while now which required ruby and rails etc. Ive finally got rails pages serving but cant finish the installation of gitorious because the gem version is too new. the error logs say please run 'rake ultrasphinx:configure' and that gives rake ultrasphinx:configure (in /var/www/apps/gitorious) rake aborted! uninitialized constant ActiveSupport::Dependencies::Mutex /var/www/apps/gitorious/Rakefile:10:in `require' (See full trace by running task with --trace) From searching google this is beacuse of the wrong gem verison. Cant find a way to down grade it. apparently sudo gem update --system 1.4.2 should do the trick but ubuntu 10.10 does not like this. ERROR: While executing gem ... (RuntimeError) gem update --system is disabled on Debian, because it will overwrite the content of the rubygems Debian package, and might break your Debian system in subtle ways. The Debian-supported way to update rubygems is through apt-get, using Debian official repositories. If you really know what you are doing, you can still update rubygems by setting the REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM environment variable, but please remember that this is completely unsupported by Debian. So i added export REALLY_GEM_UPDATE_SYSTEM=1 to .bashrc and reloaded it with . ~/.bashrc and still the same. ive tried various forms of setting this environmental variable with no luck. Ive also been told on #gitorious irc channel to add the file config/initializers/rubygems.rb with the line require "thread" to it. This has done nothing. EDIT: Just found another way which was rvm install rubygems 1.4.2 and it gave: Removing old Rubygems files... Installing rubygems dedicated to ruby-1.8.7-p334...   I'm using Google Map APIv2. On my webpage I've a sidebar containing a list of markers with onclick event executing showDetails method, that looks like: GMarker.prototype.showDetails=function() { map.panTo(this.getLatLng()); this.openInfoWindowHtml(this.details); }; The problem is that i cannot both panTo and openInfoWindowHtml in one method, it pans but won't open tooltip and when i change method to: GMarker.prototype.showDetails=function() { this.openInfoWindowHtml(this.details); map.panTo(this.getLatLng()); }; it opens tooltip but won't center map to the marker's anchor coordinates. Even using wait function doesn't solve my problem. What am I doing wrong?

• How to calculate unbound column value based on value of bound colum in DatagGridView?

  Hi. I have few columns in my DataGridView, one of them is an unbound column and the DataGridVIew is in VirtualMode. When CellValueNeeded event is called, I want to calculate value of Cells[0] basing on the value of Cells[2] which is in bounded column to the underlaying DataSource. This is how I try to do this: private void dgvItems_CellValueNeeded(object sender, DataGridViewCellValueEventArgs e) { e.Value = dgvItems.CurrentRow.Cells[2].Value * 5; //simplified example } However, I am getting System.StackOverflowException because it seams that call to dgvItems.CurrentRow.Cells[2].Value results in call to another CellValueNeeded event. And so on and so on... However Cells[2] is not an unbound column, so on common sense it should not result in recursive call unless getting value of any column(bound or unbound) firest that event... I can not use here SQL Expression and I can not precalculate e.Value in any SQL call. In real example Cells[2].Value is a key used in HashTable which will return a correct value for the Cells[0] (e.Value). What can I do?

  Currently we are using Innosetup as a bootstrapper to install the MSI prerequisites. It makes bit complex to maintain the setup. I found that burn tool which may help us to resolve this issue by having a single setup to install whatever we need. I could not find either documentation or sample for this tool. Is anyone have idea about this? or you can give me the alternate solution if you have. Looking for the alternate soltuion for the actions that we do with ISS bootstrapper now: Extract the files (Main setup, Prerequisite setup) Need to ensure prerequisites status and install on demand. • how can I make pip/setuptools understand that my package is in ./src?

  I have a library with a layout like this in Github: README setup.py src/ somelibrary.py Note: I cannot change the layout, but I can change setup.py. I want to be able to reference this library from requirements.txt, so that people can do pip install -r requirements.txt and have it installed automagically. So I add a line like this into requirements: -e git+http://blablabla/blabla#egg=somelibrary This will clone the repository under ./src/somelibrary and then run setup.py develop on it, which will just add a link to ./src/somelibrary under site-packages. Unfortunately, because the library is actually under ./src/somelibrary/src, it seems like python can't see the library correctly. What am I missing? I guess it must be a setup.py option I'm not using correctly.

• How to center an R plot after removing axis labels

  I'm working on visualizing a matrix in R (almost exactly like http://reference.wolfram.com/mathematica/ref/MatrixPlot.html), and I've been using image(<matrix>,axes=FALSE) to draw the picture. However, I noticed that with the y-axis turned off, the plot isn't centered--the space is still there for the axis ticks + label. I can finagle some centering with par(oma=c(0,0,0,2.5)) but this seems inefficient and error-prone (if my matrix were to change dimensions/become non-square). Is there a better way to force the graphic to center? The right hand margin is significantly smaller than the left.

I am trying to include few data files along with the package.. here is my code.. from distutils.core import setup setup(name='Scrapper', version='1.0', description='Scrapper', packages=['app', 'db', 'model', 'util'], data_files=[('app', ['app/scrapper.db'])] ) The zip file created after executing python setup.py sdist does not include the scrapper.db file. I have scrapper.db file in the app directory.. thanks for the help.
