• IE8 blocking JavaScript Cookies

  Hey there folks, Here is one that is throwing me for a loop. I am trying to set a simple cookie that has one name:value pair on IE8. Tested on FF and it works fine. IE8 keeps blocking it. I have read about the P3P stuff and created a basic P3P doc, no errors reported by the IBM tool, and added the following on all pages: <meta http-equiv="P3P" CP="CAO DSP COR PSDa CONi TELi OUR STP COM NAV"><link rel="P3Pv1" href="/w3c/p3p.xml"></link> The code I use to set the cookie is as follows: function setCompatibilityCookie(c_name, value, expiredays) { var exdate = new Date(); exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + expiredays); document.cookie= c_name + "=" + escape(value) + ((expiredays==null) ? • jquery sortable problem with ie

  i am using jquery to sort my lists and i have run into a dead end. First, I checked the jquery site if theirs work on ie7, thats great, it does. next, i checked mine without the styles(so there possibly wont be anything that's intercepting or affecting jquery stuff). but i still get this weird error in ie7 when you sort items in the inner list(i have nested lists) they overlap each other, destroying the layout. if you sort the contianer lists, they work fine! here's a jsfiddle of what i mean: http://jsfiddle.net/GDUpa/ note that if you drag demonstration one or two spots(in ie), it will overlap with the other links. BUT if you drag POC (it will select the whole thing including the links under it), it works fine! is something wrong with my markup?

• Css3 Transition on background transparent not working in Chrome 5

  I`m trying to create an animation using CSS3 transition. The animation is a gradient background that should change his color (rgba). I used the webkit tag for the gradient and it`s working in Chrome 5.0.375.55. Looking into w3c site I see that "background-image - only gradients" is supported for the transition. (http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-transitions/) But I can only animate the background-color property with this version of chrome. With gradient the transition does not work. Does anyone managed to create an animation with background gradients?

• Regular expression to remove all text except...

  There may be an easier way, and if there is I'm all for it. However - my ASP.NET page has a TON of controls on it, and I've given them all ID's that start with underscore. I copied all the markup into Notepad++ and I'm trying to find a regular expression that will find everything but the controls and replace it with whitespace. that way I'll have a text file that has all my control names which I'll probably throw into Excel and do some string manipulation to add ".Text = " etc. Any suggestions?

  I am looking for the best solution to allow text to wrap in the middle of a word if necessary. By best, I mean most browser-compatible, and will favor word breaks before it breaks inside a word. It would also help if the markup looked nicer than mine (see my answer). Edit: Note this is specifically for user-generated content. Edit 2: About 25% of Firefox users on the site in question are still using v3.0 or below, so it is critical to support them. This is based on the last month worth of data (about 121,000 visits).

I want to provide good Intellisense information, but I am not sure how to document thrown exceptions. How do I make it such that when I click on the anchor tag, the event on the parent will not be triggered? I've tried using the Jquery method stopPropagation() but still no luck. Any thoughts?   Here's my tooltips markup and CSS: <div class="tooltip">Click here to like it</div> .tooltip { position: absolute; display: none; background: url('images/tooltip.gif') no-repeat; width: 100%; height: 40px; font-size: 0.8em; line-height: 40px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 8px; } Now, I have a div on my page called #button_container. I would like to place this .tooltip div 150px to the right of that div via JQuery. I understand I need to set this tooltips top and left attributes, but not sure how. Idealy the tooltips top attribute should be the same as #button_container (although #button_container isn't positioned absolutely) and 150 less than #button_container's left attribute. I don't really know where to get started on this so any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

• Django admin output extra HTML in ModelSite

  Ultimately, I want to add an <iframe> to the display of a particular model on Django's admin page. Django is already rendering the form for this model correctly, but I want to add this <iframe> in addition to Django's form. The src attribute needs to involve the primary key for the currently-displayed record. I've learned how to properly override the change_form.html template through Django's documentation, and I can add markup to the right block, but I can't figure out how to access the primary key value. (No amount of determined Googling has helped at all.) Alternatively, is there a direct way to specify that I want to produce extra output in my ModelSite definition?

  I have 12 errors, but some are just pure non existent. Doctype: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> Here's the error report, but the "duplicate specification of attribute "value"" simply isn't true according to my .tpl: {textfield class="quetext" value="Epost*" onblur="if(this.value=='') this.value='Epost*';" onfocus="if(this.value=='Epost*') this.value='';"} Also, does a textarea require the attribute "rows" and "cols"? I thought that was only for tables? And I don't understand what the two errors at the end mean: Line 586, Column 80: Attribute value redefined... Please help! Thanks :) (Sorry if things chop and change, I'm working on the valdiation now, to tidy up as many errors as possible.)

  What is the 'best' way to handle the html markup for partial views? (which are also refreshed using AJAX) The biggest issue I run into is where to place the 'container' div... Consider having a masterpage and a partial view. (class="" could be interchanged with id="" depending if the partial is guaranteed to be unique, however this isn't really important to the issue i think) Masterpage: <div id="place1" class="placeholder"> <!-- render partial --> </div> Partial: <div id="partial1" class="partial"> <!-- content --> </div> I feel that something isn't being done right. However I cannot remove the div in the masterpage, because I need that to 'encapsulate' the response from AJAX partial updates. And also I cannot move the div in the partial to the masterpage, because that would require to move 'partial' info to the masterpage... How do you handle this?

  Hi I have the following markup .NET 1.1 app. I want the grid lines of the table to be darkgray this is the goal here. <asp:table id="tbl" Runat="server" CellSpacing="0" BorderColor="darkgray" GridLines="Both"></asp:table> I have the app in IIS set as ver 1.1 in my dev box and 2.0 in production for various reasons. The page source in 1.1 renders this <table id="ctlTimesheetMonthly_tbl" cellspacing="0" rules="all" bordercolor="DarkGray" border="1" style="border-color:DarkGray;border-collapse:collapse;">` 2.0 renders this <table id="ctlTimesheetMonthly_tbl" cellspacing="0" rules="all" border="1" style="border-color:DarkGray;border-collapse:collapse;"> Which is wrong as it produces a white border for some reason.   Hi, Just starting with ASP.Net MVC and have hit a bit of a snag regarding validation messages. I've a custom validation attribute assigned to my class validate several properties on my model. When this validation fails, we'd like the error message to contain XHTML mark-up, including a link to help page, (this was done in the original WebForms project as a ASP:Panel). At the moment the XHTML tags such as "< a ", in the ErrorMessage are being rendered to the screen. Is there any way to get the ValidationSummary to render the XHTML markup correctly? Or is there a better way to handle this kind of validation? Thanks

• Webpage layout order for my webapp - does it matter if the Sidebar is programmatically displayed bef

  OK that's the worst title I could ever possibly think up. But I'm not too sure how to phrase it! What I mean is, is it inefficient for the browser, search engine optimisation, or any other important factors, if programmatically my float:righted sidebar appears in the markup before the main content div, which is set to float:left? To the user, the main content appears on the left, and the sidebar on the right. In the source code it appears like so: <div id="sidebar">This is where my sidebar goes </div> <div id="content">This is where my content goes </div> Will this affect SEO or other factors in my page?

  I just came up with this, it seems to work in all modern browsers, I just tested it then on (IE8/compatibility, Chrome, Safari, Moz) HTML <img id="my_image" alt="my text" src="images/small_transparent.gif" /> CSS #my_image{ background-image:url('images/my_image.png'); width:100px; height:100px;} Pro's: image alt text is best-practice for accessibility/seo no extra HTML markup, and the css is pretty minimal too gets around the css on/images off issue where "text-indent" techniques hide text from low bandwidth users The biggest disadvantage that I can think of is the css off/images on situation, because you'll only send a transparent gif. I'd like to know, who uses images without stylesheets? some kind of mobile phone or something? I'm making some sites for clients in regional Australia (hundreds of km from the nearest city), where many users will be suffering from dial-up connections, and often outdated browsers too, so the "images off" issue is an important consideration. are there any other side effects with this technique that I haven't considered?

• Element Positioning affected by Browser Screen Resolution Change

  Hello, newbie developer here. There's this small problem I always encounter. Every time I try to change browser resolution (or what do you call the event when you scroll the mouse wheel while pressing ctrl), some elements (Mostly form elements) get to be shifted down or somewhere else, which does not conform with the original positioning. Im not sure if the problem is with the CSS or the markup itself and Im not really sure if this is much of a problem. Should I ignore it? (It doesn't feel very comfortable though, thinking that it might become problematic in the near future) Otherwise, any solution on how to avoid this? Simple explanations are very much appreciated, Thanks. (Perhaps the used term newbie should be replaced with noob?. Haha.)

• Inject Html Into a View Programmatically

  Hi, I have a tricky problem and I'm not sure where in the view rendering process to attempt this. I am building a simple blog/CMS in MVC and I would like to inject a some html (preferably a partial view) into the page if the user is logged in as an admin (and therefore has edit privileges). I obviously could add render partials to master pages etc. But in my system master pages/views are the "templates" of the CMS and therefore should not contain CMS specific <% % markup. I would like to hook in to some part of the rendering process and inject the html myself. Does anyone have any idea how to do this in MVC? Where would be the best point, ViewPage, ViewEngine? • Set date format in ruby model (sinatra/datamapper)

  Hi, I have a ruby model that contains a date attribue which I'd like to be able to pass in as a parameter in the format dd/MM/yyyy. However, my sqlite3 db stores the data in yyyy-MM-dd format so when a date like 20/10/2010 gets passed in, it will not be read to the database. I am using the Sinatra framework and using haml for the markup creation. Do I need to write a helper that takes the date string and converts it to the correct format for the db? Or can I set a format type on the models attribute? Thanks.
