  • Iterate over defined elements of a JS array

    - by sibidiba
    I'm using a JS array to Map IDs to actual elements, i.e. a key-value store. I would like to iterate over all elements. I tried several methods, but all have its caveats: for (var item in map) {...} Does iterates over all properties of the array, therefore it will include also functions and extensions to Array.prototype. For example someone dropping in the Prototype library in the future will brake existing code. var length = map.lenth; for (var i = 0; i < length; i++) { var item = map[i]; ... } does work but just like $.each(map, function(index, item) {...}); They iterate over the whole range of indexes 0..max(id) which has horrible drawbacks: var x = []; x[1]=1; x[10]=10; $.each(x, function(i,v) {console.log(i+": "+v);}); 0: undefined 1: 1 2: undefined 3: undefined 4: undefined 5: undefined 6: undefined 7: undefined 8: undefined 9: undefined 10: 10 Of course my IDs wont resemble a continuous sequence either. Moreover there can be huge gaps between them so skipping undefined in the latter case is unacceptable for performance reasons. How is it possible to safely iterate over only the defined elements of an array (in a way that works in all browsers and IE)?

  • JQuery Facebook like Tag feature

    - by Tech
    Hi, Does anyone know of a very basic tag JQuery script? (Facebook like tag feature) All I want to do is when I type @ in a text box for it to search an AJAX search, it then brings back a display name i.e. "Bob Johnson" and an associated Id and stores the Id in a comma delimited list. So an example would be the following .... [TextArea] [Name 1] [Name 2] [Name 3] The thing is it also needs to remove this entry (Id) once the tag gets removed, also it needs to load into a DIV which has a scrollbar so that the list doesn't get to big. If anyone know's how/if this is possible that would be great. Thanks.

  • Uncaught syntax error: Adding <li> elements to an <ul>

    - by ThePagan
    I keep getting an uncaught syntex error which I know usually means your code has a missing closing something. I keep failing to see what it is that I am missing. The idea of the function is that it extracts the a links ID and Text content and add's it to an un-ordered list. The links have a class of 'ingredient_add' and the unordered list has an ID of 'ingredientsAdded'. I can't see what I've missed here. $(document).ready(function() { $('.ingredient_add').click(function() { event.preventDefault(); var id = this.id; var value = this.text(); $('#ingredientsAdded').append("<li id='"+id+"'>"+value+"</li>"); }); //end add to list }); // end document ready()

  • JSON Response {"d":"128.00"} but displaying "128"

    - by TGuimond
    Hi all, I have been working on a shopping cart that the user can add/remove order items as they please and am returning an updated sub-total via a webservice using jQuery $.ajax Here is how I am calling the webservice and setting the sub-total with the response. //perform the ajax call $.ajax({ url: p, data: '{' + s + '}', success: function(sTotal) { //order was updated: set span to new sub-total $("#cartRow" + orderID).find(".subTotal").text(sTotal); }, failure: function() { //if the orer was not saved //console.log('Error: Order not deleted'); } }); The response I am getting seems perfectly fine: {"d":"128.00"} When I display the total on the page it displays as 128 rather than 128.00 I am fully sure it is something very simple and silly but I am so deep into it now I need someone with a fresh brain to help me out!! Cheers :)

  • mootools: $ not defined

    - by eaigner
    I've strange error i don't understand. I'm just moving my code from jQuery over to Mootools because it's much cleaner than the jQuery mess. Now when i use the $$('div.canvas') in mootools i get the correct element. When i try $(document).getElement('div.canvas') it tells me that $ is not defined. How can $$ and all helper functions like $lambda etc. be defined but not $? Has something changed there from 1.1 to 1.2 and the docs are not updated yet?

But my problem is that when the image is replaced, it does not disable the on click event. My question is that when the image is replaced, how do I disable the onclick event onclick="return plusbutton();?

  • jquery "this" binding issue on event handler

    - by clyfe
    In jquery an event hadler's binding is the event generating DOM element (this points to the dom element). In prototype to change the binding of an event handler one can use the bindAsEventListener function; How can I access both the instance and the DOM element from a event handler? Similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/117361/how-can-i-bind-an-event-handler-to-an-instance-in-jquery function Car(){ this.km = 0; $("#sprint").click(this.drive); //setup event handler } // event handler // in it I need to access both the clicked element // and the binding object (instance of car) Car.prototype.drive = function(){ this.km += 10; // i'd like to access the binding (but jq changes it) this.css({ left: this.km }); // also the element // NOTE that is inside this function I want to access them not elsewhere } var car = new Car();

  • an array of strings as a jQuery selector?

    - by dalbaeb
    I have an array of strings that are valid jQuery selectors (i.e. IDs of elements on the page): ["#p1", "#p2", "#p3", "#p4", "#p5"] I want to select elements with those IDs into a jQuery array. This is probably elementary, but I can't find anything online. I could have a for-loop which creates a string "#p1,#p2,#p3,#p4,#p5" which could then be passed to jQuery as a single selector, but isn't there another way? Isn't there a way to pass an array of strings as a selector? EDIT: Actually, there is an answer out there already.

  • jQuery Swap Image on Click and if/else

    - by jrutter
    Im stuck, Im setting a variable when someone clicks, then testing with if to see if the variable exists and doing something else. Its a simple script which Im probably overthinking, would love someone's thoughts. $('.view-alternatives-btn').live('click', function() { //$("#nc-alternate-wines").scrollTo(); //$('.nc-remove').toggle(); var showBtn = null; if (showBtn == null) { $('.view-alternatives-btn img').attr("src","../images/wsj_hide_alternatives_btn.gif"); $('#nc-alternate-wines').show(); showBtn = 1; console.log(showBtn); } else if (showBtn == 1) { $('.view-alternatives-btn img').attr("src","../images/wsj_view_alternatives_btn.gif"); $('#nc-alternate-wines').hide(); console.log("this " + showBtn); } return false; });

    - by John Isaacks
    I have a thumb nail inside another div, when the thumbnail is hovered I want the parent div to fade/transition to the background of the thumbnail, then fade back to the original image after hover. I have this so far which changes the parent background to that of the thumbnail and back but with no transition. $(document).ready(function() { var originalBG; var hoverBG; $(".alt-img").hover( function () { originalBG = $(this).parent().css('backgroundImage'); hoverBG = $(this).css('backgroundImage'); $(this).parent().css('backgroundImage',hoverBG); }, function () { $(this).parent().css('backgroundImage',originalBG); } ); });

  • Why does setting document.domain require me to set it in all popups and iframes too?

    - by Chris
    I'm using a long-polling iframe solution for a chat script. Unfortunately, this requires me to set document.domain='yourdomain.com' in the iframe and main document, because the iframe is a subdomain call. The huge problem is...now all my other scripts that use popups and iframes are broken. They now require me to put document.domain in them too. It does fix it, but this is not an ideal solution at all. Is there another way around this problem?
