• AIIM Best Practice Awards to Two Oracle Customers

  On Tuesday night at the AIIM Awards Banquet, two Oracle customers and their implementation partners won awards for their Oracle Enterprise 2.0 implementations. The Bureau of Indian Affairs, a division of the Department of Interior, won a Carl E. Nelson Best Practices Award for their implementation of Oracle WebCenter and Oracle Content Management to provide an interactive social media environment to engage and inform their constituent communities. The BIA Citizen Portal provides all the services of the Bureau of Indian Affairs to the community of 564 federally recognized tribes that include over 1.9 million American Indians and Alaska Natives. This integration was achieved with the support of Oracle partner Mythics. The Charles Town Police Department integrated Oracle Content Management to integrate with and support their police evidence system. This integration was created in partnership with Oracle partner EDAC Systems Inc. Diane Hoppe of EDAC Systems Inc. was on hand to receive the award for Charles Town Police Department.   Currently I am drawing a cube for a game that I am making and the cube draw method is below. My question is, what is the best way to draw a cube and to be able to easily find the face that the cursor is over?   This list is in no particular order. Just the 10 best programming podcast that I have found so far. Stack Overflow Podcast -  Jeff Atwood (of codinghorror.com) and Joel Spolsky (of joelonsoftware.com) discuss the development of their new programming community, StackOverflow.com. [This Podcast hasn’t been updated in a while, but its always great to hear more from Jeff Atwood] Hanselminutes - Hanselminutes is a weekly audio talk show with noted web developer and technologist Scott Hanselman and hosted by Carl Franklin. Scott discusses utilities and tools, gives practical how-to advice, and discusses ASP.NET or Windows issues and workarounds. [This Podcast has recently started talking about random topics like diabetes, plane travel and geek relationship tips.  I am not sure if Scott is trying to move to a more mainstream audience or not] Herding Code - A weekly discussion featuring K. Scott Allen (odetocode.com), Kevin Dente, Scott Koon (lazycoder.com), and Jon Galloway. [Great all all-around podcast that I would recommend to all] Deep Fried Bytes - Deep Fried Bytes is an audio talk show with a Southern flavor hosted by technologists and developers Keith Elder and Chris Woodruff. The show discusses a wide range of topics including application development, operating systems and technology in general. Anything is fair game if it plugs into the wall or takes a battery. [This is one that just keeps getting better] Dot Net Rocks - .NET Rocks! is an Internet Audio Talk Show for Microsoft .NET Developers. [One of the first and usually very high quality content] Connected Show - Connected Show Podcast! A podcast covering new Microsoft technology for the developer community. The show is hosted by Dmitry Lyalin and Peter Laudati. [This and Polymorphic are one of my favorite podcast – Dmitry is a great host and would recommend this to all] Polymorphic Podcast - Object oriented development, architecture and best practices in .NET [Craig is a ASP.NET MVP and a great presenter. His podcast is great and it could only be better if he recorded it more often] ASP.NET Podcast - Wallace B. (Wally) McClure presents interviews and short technical talks on .NET Technologies. [Has great information on ASP.NET of course as well as iPhone Dev] Ruby on Rails Podcast - News and interviews about the Ruby language and the Rails website framework. [Even though I am not a Ruby programmer, I’ve found this podcast very interesting] Software Engineering Radio - Software Engineering Radio is a podcast targeted at the professional software developer. The goal is to be a lasting educational resource, not a newscast. Every ten days, a new episode is published that covers all topics software engineering. Episodes are either tutorials on a specific topic, or an interview with a well-known character from the software engineering world. All SE Radio episodes are original content ? we do not record conferences or talks given in other venues. Each episode comprises two speakers to ensure a lively listening experience. SE Radio is an independent and non-commercial organization. • The Best Data Integration for Exadata Comes from Oracle

  Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle GoldenGate offer unique and optimized data integration solutions for Oracle Exadata. • Best industry to work for as a developer.

  Hi guys, Hmmm, StackOverflow now warns me of: "The question you're asking appears subjective and is likely to be closed." I've been an avid java (J2SE, JEE) developer for over 5 years now (and I'm not complaining, even though I want to go back to Delphi & C++). My contract has just ended and I'm wondering of possible job to further tackle. I've done banking and insurance industry for all my career (with 1 year on a Fortuner 500 company) and pretty much, banking is the slowest (and boring) industry to work for (IMHO) since they're strict in their business practices (fair enough). The upside is that they pay. My question is: What is the best industry for a developer, who tends to get bored relatively quickly, to work for? Is it also worthwhile for me to do consultancy (and if so, what type of consultancy)? PS There's no gaming industry in South Africa, so suggesting it requires that I have to travel to a country where gaming is alive! I don't see the Community Wiki checkbox, so I don't know how to make this a wiki.

  I just wanted to get some opinions on the best "web site copying" software out there (free or commercial is fine). I have a site that I've recently become responsible for managing, and the previous consultant has not provided operating system access. As such, the plan is to re-host the web site. I realize there are a lot of different issues to consider in doing this. However, I don't have much choice in the matter now. The plan is to use web site copying software (ala HTTrack) to "rip" the web site, and then modify what is downloaded back in to a maintainable site. This, of course, involves HTML, css, javascript, etc on the front-end. I'd like to recover as much of the site as possible to make re-creating it as easy as possible. Your input is appreciated. I need advice in choosing the right FS, what are the diferences between ext 2/3/4 and what is the best software to do that.

• Best hardware for a Ubuntu Computer?

  Hey all. I'll be needing a new PC soon, but I've decided to build my own, so my question is...what's the best hardware for Ubuntu? Specifically, in terms of graphics cards; I'm looking for something that will run smoothly (for Compiz's effects and Unity) but will be quite modern (IE: have a HDMI output) The machine itself is just a generic computer, nothing special; I just want to future-proof it. I'm looking at quad-core chips and 3-4 gig of RAM. I want something that will play nice with Ubuntu; now, and in the future... I used to build machines years ago, but I've fallen behind (that was in the Windows 98 era...so yeah, quite a while ago!) My main problem is the graphics card; I'd prefer to stick with NVIDIA, but only a tiny amount of computers I've seen play nice with Nouveau.

• Derive a algorithm to match best position

  I have pieces in my game which have stats and cost assigned to them and they can only be placed at a certain location. Lets say I have 50 pieces. e.g. Piece1 = 100 stats, 10 cost, Position A. Piece2 = 120 stats, 5 cost, Position B. Piece3 = 500 stats, 50 cost, Position C. Piece4 = 200 stats, 25 cost, Position A. and so on.. I have a board on which 12 pieces have to be allocated and have to remain inside the board cost. e.g. A board has A,B,C ... J,K,L positions and X Cost assigned to it. I have to figure out a way to place best possible piece in the correct position and should remain within the cost specified by the board. Any help would be appreciated.

  I may be asking an odd question, but webmasters seem like a decent place to post this. I'm in the search for an accurate, easy API (such as using JSON or XML) so I can use my web application. I've been trying Google's secret API, but it's dependency isn't that good because of parsing the string (weird JSON format that PHP sometimes return incorrect data or truncates the string due to parsing error, but Google's API is fair but can be improved. • Best way to deal with a system without a user acceptance / testing phase

  Historically I've been able to get away with making small changes to an in-house helpdesk system riding on a LAMP stack and just making a backup prior to editing. This has no user acceptance / testing phase and I work on the live .php files directly. However now the requirement has arisen that will require a bit more coding done, and I'm obviously not particularly happy about making these changes without a framework to support me. What would the best way forward be? I could just make another backup I suppose.

  We build a webapp that allows users to run the app under their own subdomain. So we run the app under search.domainX.com, search.domainY.com and so on. They each have their own Google Analytics to track individual stats. But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views."   I just wanted to get some opinions on the best "web site copying" software out there (free or commercial is fine). I have a site that I've recently become responsible for managing, and the previous consultant has not provided operating system access. As such, the plan is to re-host the web site. I realize there are a lot of different issues to consider in doing this. However, I don't have much choice in the matter now. The plan is to use web site copying software (ala HTTrack) to "rip" the web site, and then modify what is downloaded back in to a maintainable site. This, of course, involves HTML, css, javascript, etc on the front-end. I'd like to recover as much of the site as possible to make re-creating it as easy as possible.

• Best way to address this Magento issue

  I am in need of some advice/pointers on how best to attack a problem I am faced with in Magento 1.4.0.1. Here is the scenario: Consider a product catalog of multiple thousands of products in which there are many and various retail markup percentages. There is a need to sell some of those products to other retailers, and I need a way to easily categorise them into percentrage markup groups, so that the other traders can easily purchase items from us without needing to call and confirm pricing. All products prices are added to the magento database including VAT - so the actual retail value is the starting point. I think this needs to be done by adding an attribute on the products that determines the maximum discount level that can be applied to any given product. Obviously, this would entail a massive amount of work to update every product. Is there a way to achieve what we need that I don't yet know about (within Magento)? Can single attribute values be mass-populated somehow, without affecting other attributes such as name/description/etc?
