  • Are function arguments stored in a closure?

    - by Nick Lowman
    I was reading this great article about closures here and the example below outputs 'item3 undefined' three times. I understand why it outputs 'item3' three times as the functions inside buildList() all use the same single closure but why can't it access the 'list' argument? Why is it undefined? Is it because the argument is passed in after the closure has been created? function buildList(list) { var result = []; for (var i = 0; i < list.length; i++) { var item = 'item' + list[i]; result.push( function() {console.log(item + ' ' + list[i])} ); } return result; } function testList() { var fnlist = buildList([1,2,3]); // using j only to help prevent confusion - could use i for (var j = 0; j < fnlist.length; j++) { fnlist[j](); } }

  • [Need help]: Issue with submit button and html file input control’s Click() method

    - by somesh
    Scenario: On click of a button, we dynamically create html file input (file upload) control on the page and call that file input controls Click() method. User then selects the file from the disk. There is a “Submit” button to upload the selected file. Problem: The problem is, when clicked on “Submit” button first time, the input value from the file input control is cleared. And the request does not go to the server. When clicked second time, the request goes to server with empty file input value. Why the first click on submit button does not send the request to server. And why it clears the file input control value? Note: The issue is observed only when we call Click() method programmatically. If we let user to click browse, then in that case, the "Submit" does not clear the input value and sends request to server on first click itself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. By the way, server side code is in asp.net and client side in java script, testing on IE. -Somesh

  • Serializing to JSON in jQuery

    - by Herb Caudill
    I know how to serialize an object to JSON in ASP.NET Ajax, but I'm trying to do things on the client in a less Microsoft-specific way. I'm using jQuery. Is there a "standard" way to do this? My specific situation: I have an array defined something like this: var countries = new Array(); countries[0] = 'ga'; countries[1] = 'cd'; ... and I need to turn this into a string to pass to $.ajax() like this: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "Concessions.aspx/GetConcessions", data: "{'countries':['ga','cd']}", ... Edit (clarification) I realize there are a number of JSON libraries out there, but I'd like to avoid introducing a new dependency (if I'm going to do that, I might as well use ASP.NET Ajax's built-in JSON serializer).

  • closure not working

    - by dorelal
    var Dog = function() { var _instance = 'hello world'; return function() { console.log(this._instance); } } (); //note that it is self invoking function var l = new Dog(); //#> undefined In the above case I was expecting output of 'hello world'. Why this._instance is not accessing the the varible which should be accessible by virtue of closure. I tested this in FF and am getting undefined.

  • How to change a table row color when clicked and back to what it was originally when another row clicked?

    - by user1277222
    As the title explains, I wish to change the color of a row when it is clicked then revert the color when another is clicked, however still change the color of the newly clicked row. A resolution in JQuery would be much appreciated. I just can't crack this one. What I have so far but it's not working for me. function loadjob(jobIDincoming, currentID){ $("#joblistingDetail").load('jobview.php' , {jobID: jobIDincoming}).hide().fadeIn('100'); var last = new Array(); last.push(currentID); $(last[last.length-1]).closest('tr').css('background-color', 'white'); $(currentID).closest('tr').css('background-color', 'red');};

  • Fading Element on Scroll

    - by user179846
    I'm curious how I can create a DIV (or anything really) that I can fade (or change opacity of) when a user scrolls down the page. This DIV would sit at the top of the page, but only be clearly visible when at the very top of the page. Additionally, it would be ideal if I I could have this element fade back in onmouseover, regardless of the current scrolled position on the page.

  • How to return function in document ready?

    - by FatDogMark
    I don't know if it is possible to do this, like I have 2 js files. The first Js File: var news_pos, about_pos, services_pos, clients_pos; function define_pos(){ var $top_slides=$('#top_slides'), $mid_nav=$('#mid_nav'), $news_section=$('#section-1'); var fixed_height = $top_slides.height()+$mid_nav.height(); news_pos = fixed_height-20 ; about_pos = fixed_height+$news_section.height(); services_pos = fixed_height+$news_section.height()*2; clients_pos = fixed_height+$news_section.height()*3; } $(document).ready(function(){ var section_news = $('#section-1'), section_about = $('#section-2'), section_services = $('#section-3'), section_clients = $('#section-4'); setheight(); function setheight(){ var section_height=$(window).height()+200; $section_news.height(section_height); $section_about.height(section_height); $section_services.height(section_height); $section_clients.height(section_height); define_pos(); } }); The second JS File: $(document).ready(function(){ var nav = { '$btn1':$('#btn1'), '$btn2':$('#btn2'), '$btn3':$('#btn3'), '$btn4':$('#btn4'), '$btn5':$('#btn5'), myclick : function(){ myclicked(nav.$btn1,0); myclicked(nav.$btn2,news_pos); myclicked(nav.$btn3,about_pos); myclicked(nav.$btn4,services_pos); myclicked(nav.$btn5,clients_pos); function myclicked(j,k){ j.click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: k}, 1000); }); } //Is it right to do return{'myclick':myclick}, how to call? seems not logical } } nav.myclick(); // Here will not work because it say news_pos is undefined //if I use setTimeout(nav.myclick,1000), it will works but I want to run it right the when position is caculated. }); How do I pass the nav.myclick() function to the frist js file and put it in setheight() and under define_pos()? By the way writing codes right in stackoverflow is strange,press tab not really give you any spacing.

  • serializeArray doesn't include submit-button value

    - by guzh
    Hi, I got two submit buttons in a form. One that deletes the post, and one to edit it. I want to display a fancybox with either the edit-form or a message saying that the user deleted the post. It's all decided by which button was pushed, with a "if(isset)"-sentence in edit.php. However I can't figure out how to get the value of the button within the serializeArray.. I tried with .click(function() instead, but that didn't send anything to the fancybox.. $("#form").bind("submit", function() { $.ajax({ type : "POST", cache : false, url : "edit.php", data : $(this).serializeArray(), success: function(data) { $.fancybox(data); } }); return false; }); The form looks like this: <form method='post' action='' id="form"> <input type='submit' value='Edit' name='edit' /> <input type='submit' value='Delete' name='delete' onClick="return slett('<?php echo $oppgave->name; ?>')"/> <input name='oppgaveID' type='hidden' value='<?php echo $oppgave->id; ?>' /> </form> I would really appreciate it if someone could help me! Thanks in advance!

  • jquery next siblings

    - by Contra
    Hi stackoverflow! (first post!) Ive been trying to get this problem solved, but I cant seem to figure it out without some serious workarounds. if I have the following html code: <ul> <li class="parent"> headertext </li> <li> text </li> <li> text </li> <li> text </li> <li class="parent"> headertext </li> <li> text </li> <li> text </li> </ul> Now, how do I now just select the li's following the first parent (or second, for that matter)? Basically selecting an li with class=parent and the following siblings until it reaches another li with the parent class. I could restructure the list with nested lists, but I dont want to do that. Any suggestions?

  • scrollTop issue on constant moving div

    - by joe
    I have a FLASH object that I mouse over which in turn calls the following function to scroll a div. It works but due to the constant high speed scrolling it would throw up NULLS. This in turn caused IE to open a new page through my FLASH ActionScript 2.0 I found that by creating the SC variable and throwing in the condition "if it exists" keeps FLASH from causing IE to open a new page. However, it still creates an error behind the scenes of "Object Required". Although my application works I do not want load up memory with errors. Any thoughts? var SC; function pP(PT){ SC=document.getElementById('P'+PT).offsetTop; if(SC){document.getElementById('CBOX').scrollTop=SC;} }

  • Adding zeros when length is less

    Is there a smart way to convert numbers to string and automatically add zeroes so the length is the same as the maximum? like this: for (var i=0; i<30; i++) { var c = i.toString(); if (c.length == 1) { c = '0'+=c; } } But smarter

  • jQuery Nested Droppables

    - by John
    I have a nested set of jQuery droppables...one outer droppable that encompasses most of the page and an a set of nested inner droppables on the page. The functionality I want is: If a draggable is dropped outside of any of the inner droppables it should be accepted by the outer droppable. If a draggable is dropped onto any of the inner droppables it should NOT be accepted by the outer droppable, regardless of whether the inner droppable accepts the draggable. So that would be easy if I could guarantee 1+ inner droppables would accept the draggable, because the greedy attribute would make sure it would only get triggered once. Unfortunately the majority of the time the inner droppable will also reject the draggable, meaning the greedy option doesn't really help. Summary: The basic functionality is a set of valid/invalid inner droppables to accept the draggable, but when you toss the draggable outside any of the draggables it gets destroyed by the outer droppable. What's the best way of doing this?

  • Iterating Through N Level Children

    - by bobber205
    This seems like something neat that might be "built into" jQuery but I think it's still worth asking. I have a problem where that can easily be solved by iterating through all the children of a element. I've recently discovered I need to account for the cases where I would need to do a level or two deeper than the "1 level" (just calling .children() once) I am currently doing. jQuery.each(divToLookAt.children(), function(index, element) { //do stuff } ); This is what I'm current doing. To go a second layer deep, I run another loop after doing stuff code for each element. jQuery.each(divToLookAt.children(), function(index, element) { //do stuff jQuery.each(jQuery(element).children(), function(indexLevelTwo, elementLevelTwo) { //do stuff } ); } ); If I want to go yet another level deep, I have to do this all over again. This is clearly not good. I'd love to declare a "level" variable and then have it all take care of. Anyone have any ideas for a clean efficient jQueryish solution? Thanks!

  • jQuery reader() on downloaded content.

    - by David
    Hi all! jQuery.ready() allows us to wait for the construction of the webpage. Recently it has been added support to wait until CSS files are loaded. I would like to know if that feature can be used for downloaded content, because I fetch content via $.ajax() that holds CSS references and I would like to retrieve the content of the CSS before working with the retrieved content. Fetch with $.ajax() the html. -- Wait until all CSS is downloaded. Show to fetched content (already css'ed). Thank you very much for your help.
