I need free index/fund/stock end of day quotes in CSV

Hello, I need (free or cheap) source for end of day stock/mutual funds/index values. Major world indexes & European stocks are primary intrest. I keep seeing that yahoo/ google/ MS offer this data, yet I cant find HOWTO doc (or similar) on getting the data. Reuters is an option - ~$300/month puts it out of my range. Sample of what I am looking for: WMX.IDX,20100326,54.49,54.6,54.17,54.41,0 XAH.IDX,20100326,52.39,52.77,52.33,52.54,0 XAL.IDX,20100326,37.34,38.4,37.34,37.59,0 XAO.IDX,20100326,4896.2998,4905.2002,4848.2998,4905.2002,0 I wish to get this data into txt file in an automated manner. Objective PHP and key value coding

Hi Guys. In some part of my code I need something like this: $product_type = $product->type; $price_field = 'field_'.$product_type.'_price'; $price = $product->$$price_field; In other words I need kind of KVC - means get object field by field name produced at the runtime. I simply need to extend some existing system and keep field naming convention so do not advice me to change field names instead. I know something like this works for arrays, when you could easily do that by: $price = $product[$price_field_key]. So I can produce key for array dynamically. But how to do that for objects? Please help me as google gives me river of results for arrays, etc... Thank you

dynamic array pointer to binary file

Hi guys, Know this might be rather basic, but I been trying to figure out how to one after create a dynamic array such as double* data = new double[size]; be used as a source of data to be kept in to a binary file such as ofstream fs("data.bin",ios:binary"); fs.write(reinterpret_cast<const char *> (data),size*sizeof(double)); When I finish writing, I attempt to read the file through double* data = new double[size]; ifstream fs("data.bin",ios:binary"); fs.read(reinterpret_cast<char*> (data),size*sizeof(double)); However I seem to encounter a run time error when reading the data. Do you guys have any advice how i should attempt to write a dynamic array using pointers passed from other methods to be stored in binary files?

Power Law distribution for a given exponent in C# using MathNet

Hello! I am currently working on a project where I need to generate multiple values (floats or doubles preferably) that follow a power law distribution with a given exponent! I was advised to use the MathNet.Iridium library to help me. The problem I have is that the documentation is not as explicit as it should be if there is any! I see multiple distributions that fit the general idea of the power law distribution but I cannot pinpoint a good distribution to use with a certain exponent as a parameter. Does anybody have more experience in that matter and could give me some hints or advice?

Crossfading audio with PyQT4 and Phonon

I'm trying to get audio files to crossfade with phonon. I'm using PyQT4. I have tracks queuing properly, but I'm stuck with the fade effect. I think I need to be using the KVolumeFader effect. Funny thing, it worked on another SharePoint Server but not on the one i am working on now, so i know my code is fine, it must be something ells on the SharePoint Server maybe? PHPMailer safe practices - Send escaped / sanitized variables or not ?

I'm using the PHPMailer-Lite class to build an email sending script and I'm not sure if I should use addslashses() on the $name variable when adding it to the constructor. If somebody's last name would be O'Riley (or any other name that contains characters which should normally be sanitized before handling) and I would send it unescaped, wouldn't it mess with the script/email sending ? Is it safe to send it unescaped ? As a side note, I would also like to avoid having my message body say "Hello, O\'Riley". Looking at the source, I saw that it only trims the whitespace and line ending (\r\n) characters from the received $name variable, so any advice on this would be more than welcome. Can I use Win32 FreeType without the .dll file?

Hello. I'm teaching myself OpenGL and I'm implementing ttf text rendering using FreeType 2. I downloaded the library from http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/freetype.htm and after a couple of minor issues I got it running properly. The thing that's bothering me is that I have to place a copy of freetype6.dll in the directory with my executable in order for the thing to run. I generally try to avoid a bunch of unnecessary dll files floating around. I'm sort of new to windows programming, but from what I understand most libraries can be built to run fully from a lib rather than requiring a dll at runtime. Looking through the documentation from FT is making my brain melt, so I thought I would ask here to see if there were any devs that have worked with FT before and if so, do they know how to build the library such that no dll is required at runtime. Setting a VCProject property to default

I'm trying some VS2005 IDE macros to modify a large amount of projects (~80) within a solution. Some of the properties I wish to set do expose a programmatic interface to 'default', but many others do not. Is there a generic way to set such properties to their default? What open source database platform is most easily transferred from my personal machine into a window

I would like eventual interaction with MS Dynamics SL and/or MindTouch Core (running on WMware) for eventual intranet and/or internet display. I guess I am asking for front and back end recommendations for a database I am constructing, but since this is my first major project I would greatly appreciate any help and advice. I would also love an opportunity to learn a new language so the code base could be in any language. I do have a few more related questions for discussion; What is the viability of using Google hosting to provide the service to the public for free? Should I implement plone or another CMS if I have a large amount of output? Is there a structuring questionnaire or standards publication I could reference? Does UML diagramming provide additional options for portability? Thank you.

ASP.NET - Display Message While Page Is Loading

I have a page that performs a long-running task (10 to 15 seconds) in the page_load method. I have client-side javascript code that will display a decent "page loading" animated gif to the user. I am able to invoke the JavaScript method from the code-behind, to display the "page loading" animated gif, however, the long-running task is hanging up the UI such that the animated gif doesn't actually display until after the long-running task is complete, which is the exact opposite of what I want. To test this out, in my page_load method I make a call to the JavaScript method to display the animated gif. Then, I use Thread.Sleep(10000). What happens is that the animated gif doesn't display until after Thread.Sleep is complete. Obviously I am doing something incorrect. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Chris

using macro defined in header files

I have a macro definition in header file like this: // header.h ARRAY_SZ(a) = ((int) sizeof(a)/sizeof(a[0])); This is defined in some header file, which includes some more header files. Now, i need to use this macro in some source file that has no other reason to include header.h or any other header files included in header.h, so should i redefine the macro in my source file or simply include the header file header.h. Will the latter approach affect the code size/compile time (I think yes), or runtime (i think no)? Your advice on this!

Looking for some thoughts on an image printing app

Hey All, Im looking for thoughts/advice. I have an upcoming project (all .net) that will require the following: pulls data once a day from an online service provider based on certain criteria. saves data locally for reference and reporting the data thats pulled will be used to create gift cards. So after the data is loaded, a process will run to generate "virtual cards" and send them to a network printer. Once printed, the system will updated the local data recording a successful or failed print. My initial thought was to create a windows service to pull the data...but then I couldnt decide how I was going to put a "virtual card" together and get it to print. Then I considered doing it as a WPF app. I figure that will give me access to the graphics and printing ability. Maybe neither of these are the right direction....Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Alex

Django DecimalField returns "None" instead of empty value

Is there a way to force django to display nothing instead of "None" for a Decimal Field that's been left blank? In my template, I show a list of all the values for a particular field. Each value is hyperlinked to a page that displays the results of a query filtered on that value. But because there are some entries with null value, my list includes actual DecimalField entries and "None" for all those that are empty. When a user clicks on None, django throws a validation error because you cannot query a DecimalField using a string. I could write if statements checking all instances of decimal fields for Nones and skipping them, but that is far from an elegant solution. Any advice? This is one part of the code, though there are other templates that derive the None value in slightly different manners: {% for item in choices %} <a href={% url app_views.field_choice item %}>{{ item }}</a><br> {% endfor %}

Is Matlab faster than Python?

I want to compute magnetic fields of some conductors using the biot-savart-law and I want to use a 1000x1000x1000 matrix. Before I use Matlab, but now I want to use Python. Is Python slower than Matlab? How can I make Python faster? EDIT: Maybe the best way is to compute the big array with c/c++ and then transfering them to python. I want to visualise then with VPython. EDIT2: Could somebody give an advice for which is better in my case: C or C++?

Is it possible to set properties on a Mock Object in Simpletest

I normally use getter and setter methods on my objects and I am fine with testing them as mock objects in SimpleTest by manipulating them with code like: Mock::generate('MyObj'); $MockMyObj->setReturnValue('getPropName', 'value') However, I have recently started to use magic interceptors (__set() __get()) and access properties like so: $MyObj->propName = 'blah'; But I am having difficulty making a mock object have a particular property accessed by using that technique. So is there some special way of setting properties on MockObjects. I have tried doing: $MockMyObj->propName = 'test Value'; but this does not seem to work. Not sure if it is my test Subject, Mock, magic Interceptors, or SimpleTest that is causing the property to be unaccessable. Any advice welcome.

What considerations need to be made when transitioning an application to support?

I will be taking on the role of support for a complex application that is transitioning from the development team. This application is a sharepoint solution that connects to several (7) web services. The development team is rolling off almost immediately and will be available only for small questions. I'm new to this role so I'm wondering what suggestions you have for me as I take on this large project. What are some considerations that should be made so that the transition to support is smooth and uninterupted? I've been reading the documentation but I can already see some gaps that need to be filled. The applicaiton is very (perhaps overly) configurable and there is lots of injected code. Stepping through the code is about the only way I can gain an understanding of what is actually happening. At this point I'm a little over whelmed and appreciate any suggestions or advice. Thanks!

XML databinding to TreeView (or Tab control), bind attribute based on different attribute

Hello, I have some xml: <Test> <thing location="home" status="good"/> <thing location=work" status="bad"/> <thing location="mountains" status="good"/> </Test> The leaves on the TreeView are the values of the status attribute; the nodes will be the value of the location attribute. +--bad ¦.....+--work +--good .......+--home .......+--mountains Currently, I populate the TreeView (or Tab control) manually, iterating through the xml, adding the nodes to the appropriate leaf. Can this be done via databinding? I'm guessing a Converter will be involved... Thanks for any advice.

Subversion Repository Layout

Most subversion tools create a default repository layout with /trunk, /branches and /tags. The documentation also recommends not using separate repositories for each project, so that code can be more easily shared. Following that advice has led to me having a repository with the following layout: /trunk /Project1 /Project2 /branches /Project1 /Project2 /tags /Project1 /Project2 and so on, you get the idea. Over time, I've found this structure a bit clumsy and it occurred to me that there's an alternative interpretation of the recommendations, such as: /Project1 /trunk /branches /tags /Project2 /trunk /branches /tags So, which layout do people use, and why? Or - is there another way to do things that I've completely missed?

testing database application remotely

With advice from users here I was able to deploy an application that connects with sql server 2008 database on to a server. I have the connection string with data source pointing to my machine since the database is stored on my machine temporarily. I do not have access to another machine and wanted to test the application so I remotely connected to the server to test the application and it does not connect to the server. I have TCP/IP enables, port to defaul 1433, and remote connections checked. Is there something I am missing? Please help

I am using C# and I know what are the interfaces and how syntatically use them,etc. but what I have not learned yet is that when I am tasked to write a project, create a component,... How should I learn better about interfaces so when I want to do something I be able to Think about using them in my design...or for example I want to learn about dependency injection or even using mocking objects for testing, these are all related to good understanding of interfaces and know when and how to use them ... Can you plase provide me some good advice, reading,... then can help me with that?
