  Hi everyone I'm really hoping someone can help me out with this one. When debugging in Visual Studio, sometimes I add a breakpoint but it's hollow and VS says "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. The source code is different from the original version." Obviously this prevents me being able to debug. What on earth does the message mean? What original version? If I've just opened up the solution and not made any changes whatsoever to the code, how can there be an 'original version'? The appearance of this problem just seems totally arbitrary. It's just Visual Studio going 'Na na na na na, I'm not going to debug for you today'. Can anyone give any advice? Ta David

• Is it possible to cache JSP bytecode to avoid recompiles w/ Tomcat?

  Hi, Is there any way of caching the bytecode for JSP webapps/ In particular, using Tomcat as the Java servlet? I'm getting really fed up of Tomcat taking up all the CPU for 10 minutes while it compiles 4 different webapps every time I restart it.... I'm already using Jikes to "speed up" the compiles, but it's really killing me. The code does not change unless the webapp is upgraded (very rarely), and I cannot believe that there is no way to cache the compiled java bytecode instead of recompiling it each and every time. I'd appreciate any advice on the matter!

• Unpacking Argument Lists and Instantiating WTForms objects from web.py

  After a bit of searching, I've found that it's possible to instantiate a WTForms object in web.py using the following code: form = my_form(**web.input()) web.input() returns a "dictionary-like" web.storage object, but without the double asterisks WTForms will raise an exception: TypeError: formdata should be a multidict-type wrapper that supports the 'getlist' method From the Python documentation I understand that the two asterisks are used to unpack a dictionary of named arguments. That said, I'm still a bit confused about exactly what is going on. What makes the web.storage object returned by web.input() "dictionary-like" enough that it can be unpacked by ** but not "dictionary-like" enough that it can be passed as-is to the WTForms constructor? I know that this is an extremely basic question, but any advice to help a novice programmer would be greatly appreciated!

• iPhone: Infinitely looping content inside UIScrollView

  In my app, I'm designing a custom picker that allows the user to choose an item by scrolling horizontally and touching it. I need the buttons inside that view to loop around infinitely as the user scrolls in a certain direction. What would be the best way to tackle this feature while maintaining the inertial scrolling of UIScrollView when the content loops around out of the view? From my research of others trying to attempt this, they have trouble maintaining the deceleration animation if the scroll position is programatically shifted mid-scroll after the user lifts their finger. How can I work around this limitation? An example of an app that currently has this feature is Apple's MobileMe Gallery app. In the interface, after choosing a gallery, at the top, there is a horizontally scrollable photo picker that loops infinitely as it is dragged one direction. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

• [OpenGL] I'm having an issue to use GLshort for representing Vertex, and Normal.

  As my project gets close to optimization stage, I notice that reducing Vertex Metadata could vastly improve the performance of 3D rendering. Eventually, I've dearly searched around and have found following advices from stackoverflow. Using GL_SHORT instead of GL_FLOAT in an OpenGL ES vertex array How do you represent a normal or texture coordinate using GLshorts? Advice on speeding up OpenGL ES 1.1 on the iPhone Simple experiments show that switching from "FLOAT" to "SHORT" for vertex and normal isn't tough, but what troubles me is when you're to scale back verticies to their original size (with glScalef), normals are multiplied by the reciprocal of the scale. Then how do you use "short" for both vertex and normal at the same time? I've been trying this and that for about a full day, but I could only go for "float vertex w/ byte normal" or "short vertex w/ float normal" so far. Your help would be truly appreciated.

• How to fix rotations in a Rubik's Cube?

  I'm trying to create a Rubik's Cube in Flash & Papervision and i'm really stuck here. I'm up to the point where i can rotate any plane of cubes once, but after that...it's messed up because all local coordinate systems are messy. I dont really know where to go from here, can anybody give any advice on what do do? I'm not looking for 'read about transformation matrices', i know i should (and i am doing that), but i'm not really sure what to look for. My idea is that, after each rotation, i should fix each coordinate system of each cube again, but i have no idea how. • Shared User Session for Multiple ASP.NET Websites

  I have been tasked with developing a single Login and Dashboard page that user can login too, the user will then be shown all the systems (we developed) that they have access based to based on some roles stored in our databases. If they logged in we would like that "User Session" (not sure of correct terminology) to be carried to which ever system they are redirected too. To illustrate a very rough overview of what I want to achieve: Is there a way that a user can login in one site, and then carry over that login to the other sites? • Help with SQL Join on two tables

  I have two tables, one is a table of forum threads. It has a last post date column. Another table has PostID, UserId, and DateViewed. I want to join these tables so I can compare DateViewed and LastPostDate for the current user. However, if they have never viewed the thread, there will not be a row in the 2nd table.   I'm trying to create an add-in for SSMS 2008 and/or 2008 R2 but I've run into a problem straight away. I can get my add-in to work and on SSMS start-up get it to simply show a message box. However, after downloading various code-samples, when trying to reference Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ServiceCache I get a null reference exception: Commands2 commands = (Commands2)ServiceCache.ExtensibilityModel.Commands; I get this problem when using SSMS 2008 or SSMS 2008 R2. I'm working on Visual Studio 2010. It's a bit frustrating because I'm keen to learn more about SSMS add-ins but can't seem to get past the few samples out there. Any advice/tips appreciated. Thanks

  I still see advice about using the LPTSTR/TCHAR types, etc., instead of LPWSTR/WCHAR. I believe the Unicode stuff was well introduced at Win2k, and I frankly don't write code for Windows 98 anymore. (Excepting special cases, of course.) Given that I don't care about Windows 98 (or, even less, ME) as they're decade old OS, is there any reason to use the compatibility TCHAR, etc. types? Why still advise people to use TCHAR - what benefit does it add over using WCHAR directly?

  Dear Experts I am trying to scrape a lot of data from the European Parliament website for a research project. Ther first step is the create a list if all parliamentarians, however due to the many Eastern European names and the accents they use i get a lot of missing entries. • jerky scrolling in NSTableView

  Hello All, I have a NSTableView with around 70 - 80 rows, each row contain a checkbox, title text and a drop down menu to select data. The problem i am facing is that when i scroll the table it does not scroll smooth. When i remove the NSComboBoxCell it works ok. • Can Stopwatch be used in production code?

  Hi, I need an accurate timer, and DateTime.Now seems not accurate enough. From the descriptions I read, System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch seems to be exactly what I want. But I have a phobia. I'm nervous about using anything from System.Diagnostics in actual production code. (I use it extensively for debugging with Asserts and PrintLns etc, but never yet for production stuff.) I'm not merely trying to use a timer to benchmark my functions - my app needs an actual timer. I've read on another forum that System.Diagnostics.StopWatch is only for benchmarking, and shouldn't be used in retail code, though there was no reason given. Is this correct, or am I (and whoever posted that advice) being too closed minded about System.Diagnostics? ie, is it ok to use System.Diagnostics.Stopwatch in production code? Thanks Adrian

• 3ds collada UV mapping problem in Papervision

  Hi everyone, as I briefly explained in the title, my prblem concerns texturing a collada export in papervision. Basically I was exporting collada models from Cinema 4d with its uv map. I was able to see everything, but the texture was not displaying properly (hidden polygons). So I decided to try with 3dsMax. I used the same code to display the texture : var materials:MaterialsList = new MaterialsList(); var torusMaterial:BitmapFileMaterial = new BitmapFileMaterial("model/tex.png"); torusMaterial.precise = true; materials.addMaterial(torusMaterial, "ID1"); Again, I can see every elements, but this time my model uses only one pixel of my texture. So if I use a red texture and if I color only the pixel at the left bottom corner in green, all my model will be green. Any advice about how to properly wrap the texture around a 3ds export model ?   I need to open window pop-up from Silverlight Out-of-Browser application. I've added parameter <param name="enablehtmlaccess" value="true" /> in Index.html, but executing this from code behind: HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri(myUrl), "_blank", myFeatures); still returns error: Silverlight OOB Error: The DOM/scripting bridge is disabled. I've read about this post, does it mean that I can't open pop-up from OOB? Why I need to do this, because actually I've shown the HTML page in OOB Silverlight by WebBrowser control within ChildWindow but when I click an anchor in HTML page, which linked to _blank page, it jumps to my default browser. It doesn't meet the requirement, except launch that HTML index page also in default browser at the first time, triggered from button control in OOB Silverlight. Is that possible? Please advice, thanks.

• Launching my deployed my app gets "has stopped working" error. How do I debug this?

  I deployed a VB.Net app and ran it and I get 'AppName has stopped working" "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" along with a Cancel button under Windows 7. Under XP I am only getting the option to Send the error report to Microsoft or not. There is no apparent way to hook into a debugger. I am not getting any exception data. I have put msgboxes at the very start of my code and they are not hit so it is failing before any of my code is even executing. I have checked all dependencies that I can think of. I developed the app on VS2008 Windows 7 and deploying to Windows 7 and WinXP. I need some advice - how do I debug this? Thanks, Brad
