• New to Ubuntu - 12.04.1 Kernel Panic on Installation

  I'm a complete Ubuntu and even Linux newbie. I'm learning here, so I'm grateful for any info to help me learn more about this. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with a Pentium 4 and 1GB of RAM. It's older but it's only going to be doing some small stuff for me when I get it up and going. I've tried installing several versions of Linux (but I really, really want Ubuntu) and I keep getting a similar kernel panic message. The problem is I don't have a clue what that means or how to begin fixing it. I would appreciate any help to get my machine up and going. I have already tried Installing alternate Ubuntu versions Burning multiple 12.04.1 disks Installing other versions of Linux I have a picture of the screen to share; however, I can't post due to the fact that I don't have enough reputation points on this forum because I'm a newbie. • SQL SERVER – Enable PowerPivot Plugin in Excel

  Recently I had interesting experience at one conference. My PowerPivot plugin got disabled and I had no clue how to enable the same. After while, I figured out how to enable the same. Once I got back from the event, I searched online and realize that many other people online are facing the same problem. Here is how I solved the problem. When I started Excel it did not load PowerPivot plugin. I found in option>> Add in the plug in to be disabled. I enabled the plugin and it worked very well. Let us see that with images. • Is it possible to know impressions of other websites?

  Google Webmasters's dashboard gives you a big number which is called impressions, and by definition that I've seen in Google Analytics, it means the total number of times your site has been become eligible for SERPs. I just don't have an idea how to invest on this number, and how much its increase or decrease mean to me, because I can't compare it with other websites. I mean, if the impressions of say site a.com is 150,000, and mine is 50,000, then maybe I can confer that I need to triple my efforts to reach to a.com. But by seeing 50,000 alone I have no clue at all of how to interpret it. Is there any service or other way to know about the impressions Google gives to other sites?

• Aw, Snap! in Google Chrome [on hold]

  Just wondering if anyone else's experiencing the "Aw, Snap!" bug in Google Chrome. I'm developing a brand new engine which occasionaly triggers this bug and as far as I know, there's nothing one can do to find out what actually triggered the issue. I've also tested my engine with Firefox, which runs just fine. Anyway, just wanted to know if someone else is facing this while developing games for Google Chrome and has a clue about what can be done to avoid it. I'm using plain JavaScript and the audio and canvas elements from HTML5. Thanks!

• Problem with installing programs

  I am unable to install programs for the Ubuntu 10.10 system. These download ok, but when attempting to install them, the following message is displayed: AN ERROR OCCURRED WHILE OPENING THE ARCHIVE END-OF-CENTRAL-DIRECTORY SIGNATURE NOT FOUND etc....... ZIPINFO: CANNOT FIND ZIPFILE DIRECTORY IN etc...... As I am new to Ubuntu and also fairly "green" as far as computer terminology is concerned, I have no idea what this means and don't have a clue on how to fix it. Can you help please? • Texturing a mesh generated from voxel data

  I have implemented the Marching Cubes algorithm to display an isosurface based on voxel data. Currently, it is displayed with triplanar texturing. I'm working with unity, so I have a material with the triplanar shader attached. Now, the whole isosurface is rendered using this material. And thats my problem: I want the texture to represent the voxel data. I'm storing a material value for every point in the grid, and based on this value, I want the texture of the isosurface to change. Sadly, I have no clue how to do this. So if the voxel is sand, I want sand to be displayed; if it's stone, then there should be stone. Right now, everything is displayed as sand. Thanks in advance!

• My events don't show up in the goal funnels or conversion funnels

  I have an event set up on a website and I'd like to track the effect this event has on conversion rate. The event seems to be working fine - I can see it on Top Events with all the labels, etc. But when going into Goal Flow and selecting 'Event Category' these events don't show up. I have this running for about a week. And I have made multiple checks to verify that I have events that triggered the conversion goal. Any clue about what I'm doing wrong?

• Exporting XNA class library as a DLL file

  I have downloaded an open source project that I intend to use with my current game. The download came with all the class files from the original project as well as a pre-compiled DLL file representing the project. I was able to easily link this DLL with my current project and get it working just fine, no problems there. The problem I now have is that I want to make a couple of changes to the original libraries (extend its functionality a bit to better suit my needs) and re-export the class library as a DLL again, but I have no clue how to do this. Is there some simple way in VS where I can just take the class library and export/compile it as a DLL file again or is there more to it than that? This seems like something that should be pretty simple but my efforts to find an answer have so far come up with nothing. Thanks in advance.

• Ouya / Android : button mapping bitwise

  I am programming a game with the Gameplay3d Engine. But the Android site has no gamepad support and that is what I need to port my game to Ouya. So I implemented a simple gamepad support and it supports 2 gamepads. So my problem is that I put the button stats in a float array for every gamepad. But the Gameplay3d engine saves their stats in a unsigned int _buttons variable. It is set with bitwise operations and I have no clue how to translate my array to this.

• Install unetbootin on Ubuntu 12.04

  I'm trying to install UNetbootin on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I downloaded the executable file from this link and followed the instructions below: If using Linux, make the file executable (using either the command chmod +x ./unetbootin-linux, or going to Properties-Permissions and checking "Execute"), then start the application, you will be prompted for your password to grant the application administrative rights, then the main dialog will appear, where you select a distribution and install target (USB Drive or Hard Disk), then reboot when prompted.\ So I typed on my terminal sudo chmod +x unetbootin-linux-584 and tried to execute the binary file with ./unetbootin-linux-584 but got this output: ./unetbootin-linux-584: error while loading shared libraries: libXrandr.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory However when I checked for libraries libXrandr on my system I actually found them $> locate libXrandr /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXrandr.so.2 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXrandr.so.2.2.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXrandr_ltsq.so.2 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libXrandr_ltsq.so.2.2.0 so I really don't have a clue of what's the problem and how can I fix it, any ideas?

• Why does quickly package --extras fail (where quickly package doesn't)?

When I run package --extras on a clean template it runs fine. soundboardconfig.py is an unmodified appnameconfig.py the template makes. I'm not sure if my full source code is needed for this or not, but can be provided. EDIT: Forgot to mention quickly package creates a working package, only --extras fails.

• Rotate a vector by given degrees (errors when value over 90)

  I created a function to rotate a vector by a given number of degrees. It seems to work fine when given values in the range -90 to +90. Beyond this, the amount of rotation decreases, i.e., I think objects are rotating the same amount for 80 and 100 degrees. I think this diagram might be a clue to my problem, but I don't quite understand what it's showing. Must I use a different trig function depending on the radians value? The programming examples I've been able to find look similar to mine (not varying the trig functions). • Ubuntu freezes/crash after wake when upgraded to 13.10

  Back on 13.04 it didn't occurred. I've upgraded to 13.10, systems apparently working fine, but, when I put it to sleep(using or not using extended monitor) and try to wake up, I see the screen(both), without lock-screen, but completely freeze, Neither tty open, nor the keyboard works. So, only option remains is to force shut-down. Any clue how to investigate the cause or fix it? Thanks in advance, any info that'll help you could ask! • Cannot add DataTables.net javascript into Joomla 1.5

  I've been having this problem where i couldn't add Datatables.net javascript into my Joomla article. I have been trying to include it through Jumi. To say that my editor strips of the tag is somewhat not right as I have been able to execute Google Chart API in Joomla which also uses javascript. Any clue why? • Keyword does not work in dash

  Since the last update of my OS ubuntu 11.10, I am not able to type in the dash. In any other application (like Firefox for this message), the keyboard is working fine, but in the dash "window" of unity (I am not sure what it is called officially), the keyboard is buggy. Sometimes I manage to enter one or two characters, but most of the time nothing appears as if the key-press signal was not received. Before the update, I actually was working with gnome-classic (I had removed unity from oneiric). The update seemed to have reinstalled unity, but something apparently is missing or damaged. Does anybody have a clue about what could be done to repair the dash?

• First mouse click not detected

  Since a few days my mouse reacts different on a click. The first click is not working properly, it seems as it is interpreted as a hoover, the second click is interpreted as the first 'real' click. I tried switching left and right buttons, but behaviour stays the same. Tried restarting unity, implemented ctrl_alt_bksp, but didn't help either. I am running 14.04 Ubuntu, and have all packages up-to-date using apt-get update/upgrade. Is there anybody with a clue? Thanks in advance! Patrick

• Ubuntu One under KDE

  Currently, while Ubuntu One can be installed under KDE, Dolphin does not know about it, so it cannot set folders other than Ubuntu One to sync. There is a command line utility, "u1sdtool", which performs most if not all the functions you need. Setting the keyring password to be the same as your login won't prevent Ubuntu One asking you for it again on login. If you want to change it, install Seahorse, look for it in your menus as "Passwords and Keys", and right click over "Passwords: default", then select "Change Password". The various deleting tricks I've read about don't work for me. There is an ubuntuone-client-kde being developed, but no clue as to when it will appear in a stable repo. Any further advice will be welcomed by me and doubtless a few other KDE users.

  Whats the best way to get started on iPhone development if you are an expeienced C++ or C# programmer? Most books either assume you know nothing or something. What are the steps to achieve this? For eg: first learn objective C (let's say), next learn cocoa... I am interested in books/resources. I read Getting started with iPhone development from Oreilly (the missing manuals book) but that just provided an over view on the programming and concentrated more on getting your app into the app store. I need need resources that will help be start coding. Other questions: How much of objective C do you need to know? How do go ahead with learning the cocoa framework? Can I directly start on cocoa touch or do I need to know the MAC cocoa framework first? Inputs from someone who was in the same situation (Know c++/c# but no clue about mac programming/objective c/cocoa) would help greatly.

• Detect duplicate in a subset from a set of elements

  I have a set of numbers say : 1 1 2 8 5 6 6 7 8 8 4 2... I want to detect the duplicate element in subsets(of given size say k) of the above numbers... For example : Consider the increasing subsets(for example consider k=3) Subset 1 :{1,1,2} Subset 2 :{1,2,8} Subset 3 :{2,8,5} Subset 4 :{8,5,6} Subset 5 :{5,6,6} Subset 6 :{6,6,7} .... .... So my algorithm should detect that subset 1,5,6 contains duplicates.. My approach : 1)Copy the 1st k elements to a temporary array(vector) 2) using #include file in C++ STL...using unique() I would determine if there's any change in size of vector.. Any other clue how to approach this problem..

• while upgrading a virtual machine do I need to install a bootloader

  I have a virtualization server which is having a few virtual machines running at top of it. All this was done using Ubuntu server edition with KVM and using virt-manager on SSH connection. These VMs are Lucid 10.04 64 bit Vms. When I upgrade them via apt-get upgrade on an SSH connection in between the ncurses screen, it asks me if it should install a bootloader and to select Yes or No for it. I have no clue what should I select here and I cancel the upgrade.Since it is a production machine I can not specify any thing like this. So let me know what will be a correct.
