  I have set of two lenova laptops in which Fedora core 13 is installed. In one machine, the monitor is detected properly such that It is possible to connect another monitor. But In another laptop, monitor is shown as unknown monitor. I tried to fix it by reinstalling xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686. But the problem remains same(unknown monitor). it is not possible to connect another monitor with this setting. Laptop model: G460. Graphics card: Intel Graphics Media accelerator HD. Thanks!

• Hyper-V management remotely

  I'll tell you in advance that I'm newbie in the topic. I have a Win8 (Home) machine with Hyper-V installed behind a router. The router has a public IP and a domain attached. I have another Win8 (Work) machine also installed Hyper-V. I want to access to my home Hyper-V via Hyper-V Manager so I can manage my virtual machines from work. I found this article but I don't know if it's applicable to me. I thought that a simple port forwarding should work and I only need to do is grant the Work HV manager my domain and the port I choose and if it's pop a login form I only need to fill the user data of my Home computer? How can I solve this? My thoughts revolve around: - Port forwarding - set domain+port and set my home user - Set up a VPN and use the local ip address of my home computer (it looks like a little cumbersome and my router only support PPTP) I'm open to any other solution too. • Which VNC for Mac to WinXP Home control?

I'd like to be able to connect into the XP machine from the Mac over VNC, but not through the Web method, where performance seems to be a bit iffy. I've done some research, and it seems everyone is interested in the XP-Mac connection, where I'm looking to go in the other direction. • Monitor resolution messed up somehow

  I purchased the Westinghouse 22" LCD LCM-22w3 a few years ago, and now it's been acting up on me. I just booted into Windows 7(without changing any settings), and the default resolution is 1600x1024, and it allows me to select a refresh rate of up to 85 Hz(it didn't let me do that). I usually have my resolution set to 1680x1050 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz. Now, that resolution does not even appear in the list. Does anyone have any idea of what could be the problem and how to fix it? Edit: I am not sure if this will help, but when I go to change the screen resolution, the monitor is known as "Generic Non-PnP Monitor". It used to be referred to as "Generic PnP Monitor). I tried to disable Generic Non-PnP Monitor, but when I restart, it uses that monitor again. Edit 2: I created a custom .inf file using Powerstrip, but that does not work either. The monitor settings are being stubborn.

  Does anyone know how to configure more addresses for remote access to Outlook on our SBS 2008? Currently you can go to either 'https://remote.site.co.uk/remote' to acces the remote web workspace or 'https://remote.site.co.uk/owa' to go straight to remote exchange access. I would like to set it up so that by going to 'https://remote.site.co.uk/exchange' it takes you to same place that '/owa' would. Does anybody know if this is possible, and if so how? Many thanks

• Ubuntu does not recognize my built-in monitor.

  I've recently discovered of a boot problem Ubuntu has with my laptop. I have successfully installed Ubuntu on two other computers, and I've never experienced this problem. What happens is, after the live boot CD loads, the screen goes completely blank. Although, I suspected that there was no problem booting, so I loaded with BIOS only, which worked perfectly fine. Of course, not being very proficient with this, I have no idea what needs to be done to fix the problem. I have switchable graphics cards(the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, and some low-end Intel card), and an Intel i5 quad core processor. I was booting with the Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit desktop distribution. If there's any more information you need from me, please let me know. EDIT: I was able to look into this a bit more, thanks to one of the comments provided, and I have some new information. Ubuntu does seem to be able to recognize both of my graphics cards. The problem I found was that, in the Xorg.0 log, it mentions that there were "no screens found." I'm using a notebook, so the screen is built in. Does anyone know of a way to get Ubuntu to recognize the monitor?

• How to target SCOM 2007 R2 monitor to monitor only one server

  Hi, This might be basic, but hopefully someone can help me: We have a well-working SCOM 2007 R2 implementation monitoring our Microsoft infrastructure. Now, on one of these servers there's an event (logged to the eventlog) that I need to be alerted on. I have created a group and put this one windows server in it. Then, I created a monitor with simple event detection, entered the event id and used the group name as "monitor target". This doesnt work - the monitor doesn't show up in health explorer at all. However, If I create the monitor with "Windows computers" as target it works, but that means I'll have to disable the monitor, and then enable it for the group, which is cumbersome and slightly illogical to me. Is this by design, or am I doing something wrong?

• After upgrading to 12.04 from 10.10 my mythbuntu standard MCEUSB remote no longer works

  I had no problems using my Windows Media Center Remote with 10.10 Mythbuntu, but after upgrading, it no longer affects Mythbuntu. I have verified and re-installed it in Mythbuntu Control Centre. I have used irw to verify the ir buttons actions are properly received by the HTPC. • Problem with wake after suspend using USB remote.

  Hi, I'm a linux newbie looking for some help. I'm currently setting up an XBMC HTPC using a laptop and 10.10 and all works great except for waking from resume using the power button on the remote. The suspend works from remote works fine as does the resume using the power button on the laptop. I've checked /proc/acpi/wakeup which initially showed the following.   Coming from Windows, so that is what my expectations are based on. I have a Ubuntu desktop edition instance running as a virtual machine on a server. I would like to use it as my primary open source dev environment but the VNC tools I have used don't seem to be as rich as "Remote Desktop Connection" in Windows. The two things that are missing for me: connecting/logging into a non-console user sessions dynamically resizing the graphical resolution based on the size of the remote desktop window device sharing (USB devices plugged into client shared with remote) Is there an appropriate client that I can run on Windows to connect to my ubuntu dev instance that provides these capabilities?

• Philips Monitor problems - vertical lines on screen

  I have an old CRT Philips Monitor 17'' and it was working well. There were problems with the electrical power and the monitor started to make some sound and a smoke was getting out of it. I quickly switched it off the power, and in the morning when the power was ok i started the monitor and it appeared to be working and it worked for a couple of minutes when i find out some smell was coming from it, and after 5 minutes the screen i was working shut down and on the monitor some vertical lines appeared - and nothing else. I thought it was the OS, so i rebooted the pc and while it was booting i realized the monitor didn't show the bios info etc, but the same vertical lines on the whole screen were on it, sometimes their color was changing and they were blinking, but no screen appeared - only those vertical lines. After a day, the monitor was ok again - i turned it on and no there were no lines, everything was working fine. The same for the next 2 days. My question is: If anyone had ever had the same problem, can you help me ? THe monitor may be ok now but i am afraid it can get back those lines again. I don't know what to do, if you know please tell me whether should i take it to the service or not. Thank you.

• Forcing users to change password on first login - Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Services

  I'm setting up a demo lab environment in which each demo lab user is assigned 4 accounts to use in the lab. Users access the lab via Remote Desktop to the "client" machine in the lab - exposed at demolab.mydomain.com. The Client machine is a Windows 2008 Server R2 Enterprise Edition server The Remote Desktop Services role is configured on this server Remote Connection settings are configured to allow users to connect with any version of the Remote Desktop Client All accounts are members of the local Administrators and Remote Desktop Users groups All accounts are configured to be forced to change the default password after first login The user is instructed to remote into the lab with an account designated as their main account, and establish 3 more remote desktop sessions within the lab using their 3 other assigned demo lab accounts. When establishing the initial remote desktop connection to the lab using their main account, the user sees the change password dialog as expected. However, after logging in and trying to establish remote desktop connections to the server with their three other accounts, they are prompted that they need to change the password after logging in but can't continue with the login process - they don't see the expected change password experience. After logging in with a primary accounts, it doesn't make a difference if I try establishing a Remote Desktop connection to the environment using the name of the server, e.g. Client, or demolab.mydomain.com. I experimented with changing the settings for Remote Connections to require NLA but that didn't make a different. Appreciate any tips. Thanks

• How to render remote assistance to a person using Live Messenger?

  There is a feature within Windows Live Messenger v9 that allows a person to ask for remote assistance. BBut as I understand it, this works only if the router is UPnP enabled on both ends. Today I tried this with a friend during an active chat session, and nothing happened. I suspect a router problem. as I am remote, I cannot configure the router for them. What's a good way to render remote assistance? Here's the scenario: it will be based on invitation only (it's not a remote desktop or "logmein" situation). It's a younger person, a computer novice, on the other end of the wire. I'll be assiting with their use of applications on the PC. I'd l ike to be able to SEE the screen, and also use the mouse and keyboard. I have used Ultra-Vnc on the target machine and vncviewer on my machine, on a LAN. It works well. But I don't think I can use that, because it's my kids' computer in my ex-wife's place, and I don't want her to accuse me of spying on her computer. That's why I need it to be invitation only. Advice please. Is there an easy way for me to set up Remote Assistance? IS there some other tool I can use?

• How to connect through a proxy using Remote Desktop?

  So I've got a home server running Windows Server 2003. I use a dual network card setup and Routing and Remote Access to link the internal, private network to the external connection. The external connection hooks directly to my cable modem (so no routers or other devices sitting between). The problem I'm having is that I can't connect remotely from a location outside the house (so connecting to the server's external connection) to the server using either Remote Desktop or VNC. I have enabled both ports in Routing and Remote Access's firewall to allow access, and I have enabled Remote Desktop in Windows Server 2003. The odd thing is that I can access my home server's SVN repository and I can even ping the server's IP. I am using the IP to attempt to connect, though I use a dyndns.com provided name to connect to my SVN repository, so it shouldn't make a difference (I know the IP is getting resolved correctly). Any ideas on where to start diagnosing this one? I haven't seen anything in my server's event log. If any other info is needed, let me know. Thanks. UPDATE: One last piece of information: We use a proxy server at work, which I'm nearly 100% sure is the culprit. I have a workaround--if I connect to our VPN (even though I'm already inside the building) I am able to connect to my home server. This is with VNC. However, is there a way to connect through a proxy using Remote Desktop? ONE MORE UPDATE: Indeed, it was the http proxy I'm sitting behind at work that was causing the issue. An acceptable workaround is to use my VPN connection to bypass the proxy, and I'm in!

• Why no icons for pcmanfm when run from remote x server

  pcmanfm works fine when run from a local console, but does not show file icons when run from a remote x session (ssh -X user@machine). Well, that's not quite true - icons for shell scripts show up OK, there are no icons for regular files and folders. There are a load of errors in the X console window "g_object_unref ... G_IS_OBJECT". Why are there no icons for pcmanfm when I run it from a remote x server?

According to Dell's site, I should be able to rotate my Dell P2310H monitor by installing drivers from their website, but they don't have drivers for Windows Server 2003. I let Windows Update search for the driver (with the driver CD that came with the monitor in my drive) and it did install drivers, but I still don't see any options for rotating. Some people say that the ATI Catalyst Control Center allows for monitor rotation, but I've never been able to run that software on Windows Server 2003. A google search reports that others have the same problem. Has anyone successfully figured out how to rotate a monitor on Windows Server 2003 with an ATI card?
