• XAML : How to change background color only in Design mode?

  I have a control with white text foreground color and transparent background color. Later on this usercontrol will be added into a different control that carries the real background color. However during designing this, control due white foreground on white background in VS 2010, I can't obviously see anything. In there anyway to define a different color for just the design time? I have tried this: if (System.ComponentModel.DesignerProperties.IsInDesignTool) { LayoutRoot.Background = new SolidColorBrush(Colors.Blue); } But this doesn't work. Any tips? Thanks, Kave

  I know that peripheral devices such as a hard driver, a floppy driver, etc are controlled by reading/writing certain control registers on their device controllers. I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.

  If there is a view controller that wants to execute a number of block based tasks one at a time, how can the control be given back to the view controller after a completion block has executed. Lets say ViewControllerOne wants to execute a number of tasks, each relying on the result of the previous one, how would this control be given back to the viewcontroller after each completion block has been executed? I started thinking about this and I was heading towards a deeply nested block pattern that will surely only cause confusion to whoever else reads or tests it. A task executes and the completion block returns the result or error which is needed by the next task, which has its own completion task, that the next task relies on and so forth. How can the control be managed in one place, the viewcontroller? Would the completion block just call the next function that handles the next task, using a pointer to the view controller?

  When i try to run something with wine, nothing happens! i have many problems with ubuntu so i have tried to get windows 8 back on the computer, but because ubuntu cant run exe files i cant open the installer. evenmore my computer cant boot from a CD/DVD anymore after i installed ubuntu, i turns op with a black screen with a blinking marker at the upper left corner of the screen and after 10 minutes it says something like " cant boot from the selected mediadevice - select another" so how to get windows back?

• Making CopySourceAsHtml add-on work with VS2010

  As there are still bloggers who use CopySourceAsHtml add-on for Visual Studio to get syntax highlighted code to their blog posts and there is no guidance in CSAH site how to make it work with Visual Studio 2010 I will give my guidance here. Almost all code in this blog is syntax highlighted by this add-on (read more from my post Visual Studio add-in: CopySourceAsHTML). Last version of CSAH is available for VS2008 but it is easy to make it work with VS2010. Just follow these steps. Close VS2010 if it is opened. Goto folder MyDocuments\Visual Studio 2010. Move to AddIns subfolder (create it if there is no such subfolder). Create file called CopySourceAsHtml.AddIn and open it in text editor.   I've seen in WPF where you can bind control values to properties of other controls. How is that binding accomplished in C++? For example, if I have a class called Car and a guage control called RPM, how do I tie the value of RPM to the member variable Car.RPM, so that when Car.RPM changes, it is automatically (as in without a specific update call coded by me) reflected by the RPM control? General answers or directions to pertinent resources would be fine also, as I'm just beginning to dabble in C++ and haven't had much Google luck with this particular question.

  this is my first question I've posted. I've used this site to look at other questions to help with similar problems I've had. After some cursory looking I couldn't find quite the answer I was looking for so I decided to finally succumb and create an account. I am fairly new to java, only a few weeks into my first class. Anyway, my project is to create a program which takes any amount of students and their grades, and then assign them a letter grade. The catch is, however, that it is on a sort of curve and the other grades' letter are dependent on the the highest. Anything equal to or 10 points below the best grade is an a, anything 11-20 points below is a b, and so on. I am to use an array, but I get this error when ran "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException." I will go ahead and post my code down below.   I'm trying to hide all panels on a page, when a button click occurs. This is on a web content form, within a master page. The contentplageholder is named: MainContent So I have: foreach (Control c in Page.Form.FindControl("MainContent").Controls) { if (c is Panel) { c.Visible = false; } } This never find any panels. The panels are within an Update Panel, and I tried foreach(Control c in updatePanel.Controls) { } and this didn't work either. • Object Oriented Design of a Small Java Game

  This is the problem i am dealing with. I have to make a simple game of NIM. I am learning java using a book so far i have only coded programs that deal with 2 classes. This program would have about 4 classes i guess including the main class. My problem is i am having a difficult time designing classes how they will interact with each other. I really want to think and use a object oriented approach. So the first thing i did was design the Pile CLASS as it seemed the easiest and made the most sense to me in terms of what methods go in it. By that i mean i am not asking for anyone to write code for me as that defeats the purpose of learning i was just wondering how would i design the player class and what would go on it. My guess is that the player class would contain method for choosing move for computer and also receiving the move human user makes. Lastly i am guessing in the Game class i am guessing the turns would be handeled. I am really lost right now so i was wondering if someone can help me think through this problem it would be great. Starting with the player class would be appreciated. I know there are some solutions for this problem online but i refuse to look at because i want to develop my own approach to such problems and i am confident if i can get through this problem i can solve other problems. I apologize if this question is a bit poor but in specific i need help in designing the Player class.

• MVC Serve audio files while preventing direct linking using HttpResponseBase

  I need to be able to serve audio files to an mvc app while preventing direct access. Ideally the page would render with a player control so the user can start/stop the audio linked to the database record (audio files are in a folder not the db). I have a controller action like this: Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = "audio/wav"; Response.TransmitFile(audioFilename); Response.End(); return Response; and the view uses the RenderAction method <% Html.RenderAction("ServeAudioFile"); %> this works but it won't display inline on the existing view, it opens a new page with just the media control. Am I totally barking up the wrong tree or is there a way to embed the response in the existing view? works exactly as I would like but I can't control access to the file.

  When Rhythmbox is not active/not focused and when I am on some other application window. How to skip/stop/resume songs that are playing in Rhythmbox. Is there any shortcut key to do that? I know when I am on Ubuntu desktop I can press Alt+10 to get the focus of indicator applets from there I can navigate to Rhythmbox and use arrow keys to skip it ( <- / - ) but is there any other direct shortcut to do this? • Lining up the text in a tool tip, with the text in a combobox

  I see a lot of programs where if the text doesn't fit inside the bounds of the control, you can put your mouse over the control and the tooltip text will show you the full unclipped text, and also the tooltip text lines up completly with the text in the control. I'm trying to do that with a combobox in VB 2005 (.net version 2.0). In the tooltip draw event I've tried setting the tooltip location to the location of the AssociatedControl.DisplayRectangle, and the AssociatedControl.ClientRectangle. Each of these seem to put the tooltip text in the top left corner of the combobox, just slightly offset from the text in the combobox. Is there some type of padding I need to account for? or what's going on here?

• Is it bad practice to assign a css class for the sole purpose of finding it with jQuery?

  I'm using ASP.NET, not the newest one with that clientIdMode stuff. So, the control ids are generated and funky. There are lots of ways of passing ids around, but lately I've been assigning a 'fake' css class to the control I'm interested in. Then in a js file I use jQuery to find the control. Is this bad practice? It seems a lot like the ajaxControlToolkit's behaviorId to me... Is the behaviorId bad practice as well?
