• How can I connect to server using SSL(secure socket layer) on .NET Compact Framework

  Hello. I want to change .NET framework v3.5 to .NET compact framework v3.5. But I can't change SSL Stream class to compact framework version. For resolving this problem, I already read some article and msdn library. http://blogs.msdn.com/cgarcia/archive/2009/08/21/enable-ssl-for-managed-socket-on-windows-mobile.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/cgarcia/archive/2009/08/22/getting-a-managed-socket-to-talk-ssl.aspx http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa916117.aspx but I got an error that is "Unkown error 0x0ffffff", when invoking 'socket.connect(endPoint)' method based on thease article. In order to find the proper method, I try to use TcpClient class. but i can't solve this problem. When I try to connect to server on .NET compact framework, TcpClient class didn't work(Smart Device project and windows ce). As you can see below, I've got the error. In other hand, this code is work on .NET framework(C# console project). I can't understand why this socket can not access to server. Thanks for reading my question.

• Alternatives to storing Moose object using Apache::Session with CODE references

  I have a Moose class that i would like to store using Apache::Session::File. However, Apache::Session::File by default will not store it and instead i get the error message: (in cleanup) Can't store CODE items at blib\lib\Storable.pm (autosplit into blib\lib\auto\Storable\_freeze.al)... This problem can be circumvented by setting $Storable::Deparse = 1; $Storable::Eval = 1; in order to allow CODE references to be serialized. The offending method in the Moose class is listed below, which retrieves a column from a mysql database: sub _build_cell_generic { my ($self,$col) = @_; my $sth = $self->call_dbh('prepare','select '.$col.' from '.$self->TABLE.' where CI = ? and LAC = ? and IMPORTDATE = ?'); $sth->execute($self->CI,$self->LAC,$self->IMPORTDATE); my $val = $sth->fetchrow_array; $sth->finish; return defined $val ? $val : undef; } So presumably the dbh object (isa DBIx::Connector) contains CODE references. Is there a better alternative in order to allow serialization of this Moose class than setting $Storable::Deparse and $Storable::Eval ?

  I just started using a PHP framework, Kohana (V2.3.4) and I am trying to set up a config file for each of my controllers. I never used a framework before, so obviously Kohana is new to me. I was wondering how I should set up my controllers to read my config file. For example, I have an article controller and a config file for that controller. The problem is this ModelForm is that each field defined in the model will be displayed on the template. I would like to remove them from the form if they are not needed: exemple : if the user has no right on the model Company, it won't be used it in the rendered form in the template. The problem of that is you have to put the list of fields in the Meta class of the form with fields or exclude attribute, but i don't know how to manage them dynamically. Any Idea?? • How does one properly redefine self while avoiding the "Multiple methods named ..." warning?

  In Apple's The Objective-C Programming Language: Defining a Class the section named "Redifining self" recommends that that class methods allocate and return instances use 'self' only to allocate an instance and then refer only to that instance. Thus, I have a number of subclasses, that have class methods along the lines of: + (id)scrollViewWithFrame: (NSRect)rectFrame { id newInstance = [[[self alloc] initWithFrame:rectFrame] autorelease]; [newInstance setHasHorizontalScroller: YES]; [newInstance setHasVerticalScroller: YES]; [newInstance setBorderType: NSNoBorder]; [newInstance setAutoresizingMask: (NSViewWidthSizable | NSViewHeightSizable)]; return newInstance; } The above is, of course, a subclass of NSScrollView. Unfortunately, Xcode 3.x all these NSView subclasses now raise warnings: "Warning: Multiple methods named '-setAutoresizingMask' found". I believe it has something to do with GCC 4.2, the settings of which I have not changed. The warning is correct, of course, since NSView and its various subclasses all implement setAutoresizingMask, but it is also unnecessary. Since they're only warnings, I ignore them but there is a risk that in between the thirty or so unnecessary ones, a really useful warning lurks which I simply don't see. So, what to do? I do want to adhere to good coding practices and I want to build warning-free apps -- how can I do both?

  I am using JDBC to connect to MySQL for a small application. In order to test without altering the real database, I'm using HSQL in memory for JUnit tests. I'm using Spring for DI and DAOs. Here is how I'm configuring my HSQL DataSource <bean id="mockDataSource" class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.SingleConnectionDataSource"> <property name="driverClassName" value="org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver"/> <property name="url" value="jdbc:hsqldb:mem:mockSeo"/> <property name="username" value="sa"/> </bean> This works fine for my JUnit tests which use the mock DB. But when I try to run a main method, I find the following error: Error creating bean with name 'mockDataSource' defined in class path resource [beans.xml]: Error setting property values; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.PropertyBatchUpdateException; nested PropertyAccessExceptions (1) are: PropertyAccessException 1: org.springframework.beans.MethodInvocationException: Property 'driverClassName' threw exception; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalStateException: Could not load JDBC driver class [org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver] I'm running from Eclipse, and I'm using the Maven plugin. Is there a reason why this would work as a Test, but not as a main()? I know that the main method itself is not the problem, because it works if I remove all references to the HSQL DataSource from my Spring Configuration file.

• Exporting static data in a DLL

  I have a DLL which contains a class with static members. I use __declspec(dllexport) in order to make use of this class's methods. But when I link it to another project and try to compile it, I get "unresolved external symbol" errors for the static data. e.g. In DLL, Test.h class __declspec(dllexport) Test{ protected: static int d; public: static void m(){} } In DLL, Test.cpp #include "Test.h" int Test::d; In the application which uses Test, I call m(). I also tried using __declspec(dllexport) for each method separately but I still get the same link errors for the static members. If I check the DLL (the .lib) using dumpbin, I could see that the symbols have been exported. For instance, the app gives the following error at link time: 1>Main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "protected: static int CalcEngine::i_MatrixRow" (?i_MatrixRow@CalcEngine@@1HA) But the dumpbin of the .lib contains: Version : 0 Machine : 14C (x86) TimeDateStamp: 4BA3611A Fri Mar 19 17:03:46 2010 SizeOfData : 0000002C DLL name : CalcEngine.dll Symbol name : ?i_MatrixRow@CalcEngine@@1HA (protected: static int CalcEngine::i_MatrixRow) Type : data Name type : name Hint : 31 Name : ?i_MatrixRow@CalcEngine@@1HA I can't figure out how to solve this.   I'm confused regarding each() and .each()... I think I need to use both, but I'm not sure how... Basically, I have a series of checkboxes and when they're checked, I want to get the id of the closest table row and add it to an array that I can then serialize and pass to a function. So, the html looks like this: <tr id="t1"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="232" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr id="t2"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="234" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr id="t3"><td><input type="checkbox" name="did[]" value="676" class="bd" /></td></tr> <tr><td><button id="tsid" name="tsid" type="button">Send</button></td></tr> And, when (and if) the checkbox is selected, I want to get the closest tr id and store it in an array: var trids = [] And then serialize the input data and the trids array... This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the web.config file is missing. So I guess I need to use some sort of directive to tell the complier to expect content between the tags. Any ideas?

  I wanted to learn how to create python packages, so I visited http://docs.python.org/distutils/index.html. For this exercise I'm using Python 2.6.2 on Windows XP. I followed along with the simple example and created a small test project: person/ setup.py person/ __init__.py person.py My person.py file is simple: class Person(object): def __init__(self, name="", age=0): self.name = name self.age = age def sound_off(self): print "%s %d" % (self.name, self.age) And my setup.py file is: from distutils.core import setup setup(name='person', version='0.1', packages=['person'], ) I ran python setup.py sdist and it created MANIFEST, dist/ and build/. Next I ran python setup.py install and it installed it to my site packages directory. I run the python console and can import the person module, but I cannot import the Person class. >>>import person >>>from person import Person Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ImportError: cannot import name Person I checked the files added to site-packages and checked the sys.path in the console, they seem ok. Why can't I import the Person class. Where did I go wrong?

  Hi. I have a web layout of a for that looks something like this <html> <head> </head> <body> <div id="posts"> <div id="post1" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> <div id="post2" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> <!-- 96 more posts --> <div id="post99" class="post" > <!--stuff 1--> </div> </div> </body> </html> I would like to be able to load and render the page with a blank , and then have a function called when the page is loaded which goes in and load up the posts and updates the page dynamically. In Rails, I tried using "link_to_remote" to update with all of the elements. I also tweaked the posts controller to render the collection of posts if it was an ajax request (request.xhr?). It worked fine and very fast. However the update of the blank div is triggered by clicking the link. I would like the same action to happen when the page is loaded so that I don't have to put in a link. Is there a Rails Ajax helper or RJS function or something in Rails that I could use to trigger the loading of the "posts" after the page has loaded and rendered (without the posts)? (If putsch comes to shove, I will just copy the generated JS code from the link_to_remote call and have it called from the onload handler on the body).

I sometimes need to create other repository instances within controllers, to pick up data from other places, can I do this using the CW IoC, if so then how? I have been playing around with the creation of new controller classes, as they should auto-register with my existing code (if I can get this working, I can register them properly later) but when I try to instantiate them there is an obvious objection as I can't supply a repos class for the constructor (I was pretty sure that was the wrong way to go about it anyway). • Extend base type and automatically update audit information on Entity

  I have an entity model that has audit information on every table (50+ tables) CreateDate CreateUser UpdateDate UpdateUser Currently we are programatically updating audit information. Ex: if(changed){ entity.UpdatedOn = DateTime.Now; entity.UpdatedBy = Environment.UserName; context.SaveChanges(); } But I am looking for a more automated solution. During save changes, if an entity is created/updated I would like to automatically update these fields before sending them to the database for storage. Any suggestion on how i could do this? I would prefer to not do any reflection, so using a text template is not out of the question. A solution has been proposed to override SaveChanges and do it there, but in order to achieve this i would either have to use reflection (in which I don't want to do ) or derive a base class. Assuming i go down this route how would I achieve this? For example EXAMPLE_DB_TABLE CODE NAME --Audit Tables CREATE_DATE CREATE_USER UPDATE_DATE UPDATE_USER And if i create a base class public abstract class IUpdatable{ public virtual DateTime CreateDate {set;} public virtual string CreateUser { set;} public virtual DateTime UpdateDate { set;} public virtual string UpdateUser { set;} } The end goal is to be able to do something like... public overrride void SaveChanges(){ //Go through state manager and update audit infromation //FOREACH changed entity in state manager if(entity is IUpdatable){ //If state is created... update create audit. //if state is updated... update update audit } } But I am not sure how I go about generating the code that would extend the interface.

• Write a compiler for a language that looks ahead and multiple files?

  In my language I can use a class variable in my method when the definition appears below the method. It can also call methods below my method and etc. There are no 'headers'. Take this C# example. class A { public void callMethods() { print(); B b; b.notYetSeen(); public void print() { Console.Write("v = {0}", v); } int v=9; } class B { public void notYetSeen() { Console.Write("notYetSeen()\n"); } } How should I compile that? what i was thinking is: pass1: convert everything to an AST pass2: go through all classes and build a list of define classes/variable/etc pass3: go through code and check if there's any errors such as undefined variable, wrong use etc and create my output But it seems like for this to work I have to do pass 1 and 2 for ALL files before doing pass3. Also it feels like a lot of work to do until I find a syntax error (other than the obvious that can be done at parse time such as forgetting to close a brace or writing 0xLETTERS instead of a hex value). My gut says there is some other way. Note: I am using bison/flex to generate my compiler.

• Can't operator == be applied to generic types in C#?

  According to the documentation of the == operator in MSDN, For predefined value types, the equality operator (==) returns true if the values of its operands are equal, false otherwise. For reference types other than string, == returns true if its two operands refer to the same object. For the string type, == compares the values of the strings. User-defined value types can overload the == operator (see operator). So can user-defined reference types, although by default == behaves as described above for both predefined and user-defined reference types. So why does this code snippet fail to compile? void Compare<T>(T x, T y) { return x == y; } I get the error Operator '==' cannot be applied to operands of type 'T' and 'T'. I wonder why, since as far as I understand the == operator is predefined for all types? Edit: Thanks everybody. I didn't notice at first that the statement was about reference types only. I also thought that bit-by-bit comparison is provided for all value types, which I now know is not correct. But, in case I'm using a reference type, would the the == operator use the predefined reference comparison, or would it use the overloaded version of the operator if a type defined one? Edit 2: Through trial and error, we learned that the == operator will use the predefined reference comparison when using an unrestricted generic type. Actually, the compiler will use the best method it can find for the restricted type argument, but will look no further. For example, the code below will always print true, even when Test.test<B>(new B(), new B()) is called: class A { public static bool operator==(A x, A y) { return true; } } class B : A { public static bool operator==(B x, B y) { return false; } } class Test { void test<T>(T a, T b) where T : A { Console.WriteLine(a == b); } }

• How Does a COM Program Locate a .NET DLL Registered for COM Interop?

  One customer wants to consume our .NET DLLs from VB6. They are designed to support reverse interop and all works fine... except: There are two separate VB6 programs in two different directories. It seems it's necessary to do one of: Copy the .NET DLL into both directories, or Install the .NET DLL in the GAC This is the customer's observation and also supported by the RegAsm documentation: After registering an assembly using Regasm.exe, you can install it in the global assembly cache so that it can be activated from any COM client. If the assembly is only going to be activated by a single application, you can place it in that application's directory. I'm confused on this point. First point of confusion: As far as I understand, the COM runtime locates the DLL using the Prog ID / Class ID. When I look in the registry at the Class ID entry, I see the full path to the .NET DLL in the CodeBase key. Why is it that a COM program using the Prog ID / Class ID doesn't locate the .NET DLL using the CodeBase? Second point of confusion: The GAC is specific to .NET. How is it involved in resolving COM references?

• GAE modeling relationship options

  Hi there, I need to model the following situation and I can't seem to find a consistent example on how to do it "correctly" for the google app engine. Suppose I've got a simple situation like the following: [Company] 1 ----- M [Stare] A company has one to many stores. Each store has an address made up of a address line 1, city, state, country, postcode etc. Ok. Lets say we need to create say an "Audit". An Audit is for a company and can be across one to many stares. So something like: [Audit] 1 ------ 1 [Company] 1 ------ M [Store] Now we need to query all of the "audits" based on the Store "addresses" in order to send the "Auditors" to the right locations. There seem to be numerous articles like this one: http://code.google.com/appengine/articles/modeling.html Which give examples of creating a "ContactCompany" model class. However they also say that you should use this kind of relationship only when you "really need to" and with "care" for performance. I've also read - frequently - that you should denormalize as much as possible thereby moving all of the "query-able" data into the Audit class. So what would you suggest as the best way to solve this? I've seen that there is an Expando class but I'm not sure if that is the "best" option for this. Any help or thoughts on this would be totally appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matt

• Implementing IDisposable on a subclass when the parent also implements IDisposable

  I have a parent and child class that both need to implement IDisposable. Where should virtual (and base.Dispose()?) calls come into play? When I just override the Dispose(bool disposing) call, it feels really strange stating that I implement IDisposable without having an explicit Dispose() function (just utilizing the inherited one), but having everything else. • Issue intercepting property in Silverlight application

  I am using Ninject as DI container in a Silverlight application. Now I am extending the application to support interception and started integrating DynamicProxy2 extension for Ninject. I am trying to intercept call to properties on a ViewModel and ending up getting following exception: “Attempt to access the method failed: System.Reflection.Emit.DynamicMethod..ctor(System.String, System.Type, System.Type[], System.Reflection.Module, Boolean)” This exception is thrown when invocation.Proceed() method is called.
