  I was writing a simple Grails app and I have a spot in a gsp where one of my java beans in modified. <g:each in="${myList}" status="i" var="myVar"> // if the user performs some view action, update one of the myVar elements </g:each> This works, but I don't think it's quite threadsafe. myList is an http request variable but in cases of pages that use ajax (or other client side manipulations), it is possible for two threads to be modifying the same request scope variable The Spring AbstractController class provides a setSynchronizeOnSession method. Does grails provide any equivalent functionality? If not, what's the best way to protect this non-threadsafe mutation? thanks, Jeff

• What are the virtues of using XML comments in .NET?

  I can't understand the virtues of using XML comments. I know they can be converted into nice documentation external to the code, but the same can be achieved with the much more concise DOxygen syntax. In my opinion the XML comments are wrong, because: They obfuscate the comments and the code in general. (They are more difficult to read by humans). Less code can be viewed on a single screen, because "summary" and "/summary" take additional lines. They suggest that all method parameters have to be commented, whereas 90% of them are obvious and SHOULD be left not commented. The only problem I have with this is that my point of view seems to be in minority. Why?

• How does twitter server get to know single tweet ID from URL fragment segment?

  Each tweet has a single URL such as http://twitter.com/#!/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720. The tweet identification (/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720) is in the URL fragment segment which is not actually sent to server. Originally, I thought it works this way: The URL response doesn't have this tweet specific info. It is JavaScript module that extracts tweet id from current browser URL and fetch tweet payload with AJAX. The page content is then updated with the tweet payload. To my surprise, it is doesn't work this way! With Firebug, you can view that response of http://twitter.com/#!/DeliciousHot/status/23189589820702720 has tweet payload "10 Signs of a True Gentleman" text in inline JavaScript. The tweet payload is not fetched by another AJAX. So, how does Twitter server get to know the expected tweet ID even it is in URL fragment segment?

  Goodafternoon All! I have an issue in my application.My iphone application crashes at mid of running or during the application launch at times both in iPhone and simulator. I know that memory management is not proper or is it because os some other reason. My application is using a web service that pulls the data and displays it in the view,the working of web service is proper,because i see the data coming from the service in my app. Can anybody suggest how to manage memory properly (i.e,) where i have to release the objects,what are the objects that has to be released and the objects that should not be released. • Validating a Postscript without trying to print it?

  Saving data to Postscript in my app results in a Postscript file which I can view without issues in GhostView, but when I try to print it, the printer isn't able to print it because it seems to be invalid. Is there a way to validate / find errors in Postscript files without actually sending it to a printer? Preferred would be some kind of Java API/library, but a program which does the same would be fine as well. Edit #1 : no I don't know why it's invalid, nor even necessarily if it's invalid, but would like to be able to validate it outside of ghostview, or figure out what's going on when it can't print. Answer : Well using the ps2ps trick I was able to see the output that Postscript does and there check the difference. The difference was that I am not allowed to have a decimal number for the width or height of images in the Postscript, but rather only integers. So I still didn't find a way to validate, but this way was good enough for my problem. Thanks.

  I have several UISliders in my application which all work fine until I call the following code: ... frame = CGRectMake(43, 210, 201, 23); mySlider = [[UISlider alloc] initWithFrame:frame]; [mySlider addTarget:self action:@selector(sliderUpdate:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; mySlider.minimumValue = 0.0; mySlider.maximumValue = 1.0; mySlider.continuous = YES; tempNum = [myArray objectAtIndex:2]; mySlider.value = [tempNum floatValue]; // only breaks if value is 0 [self.view addSubview:mySlider]; ... For some reason the slider doesn't show up unless mySlider.value is set to greater than 0. The only workaround I've found so far is to set it to an extremely small value (such as 0.000000001), which makes the slider appear as expected. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening and how it can be fixed?

• What databse uses these specific type of .dat and .idx files?

  I'm trying to figure out what type of database uses these specific .dat and .idx files. When I view the .dat files using a binary file reader I see Record Schema followed by somewhat decipherable data names. A little further down I see Key Schema whch apears to be a comma separated list of clear text references. Each .dat file has a matching .idx file. Each .dat file contains the phrase "Record Schema" and "Key Schema" as described above. How would I convert these files so I can use them in an SQL database?

• jQuery click event to make a div slide down and push next div out of viewport

  I'm trying to figure out how to make jQuery slide #content2 down and replace content1 with it while making it look like #content1 is actually being pushed down by #content1 removing it from view... Then the same button that was clicked to make #content2 replace #content1 would also need to do the reverse effect by replacing #content2 with #content1 making them slide up and push each other out of the way...   Hello, I have a Java application, and use OJB as my ORM technology. I have an Oracle XE installation locally to develop against. The problem is when I need to debug a problem, I like looking at the SQL output. Here is an example of SQL I can view through the "Top SQL" interface in Oracle XE: select a_bunch_of_fields from KREW_DOC_TYP_T A0 WHERE ((UPPER(A0.DOC_TYP_NM) LIKE :1) AND A0.ACTV_IND = :2) AND A0.CUR_IND = :3 The problem is I would like to see the real value instead of ":1". Of course there are obvious things, such as using SSL and logging all access, but I'm wondering just where above these basic steps people consider the bar to be set.   I am saving pictures under my web folder in the folder: web/media/photo In the template that displays the photo, I have the following snippet: <?php echo link_to(image_tag('media/photo/filename.jpg', '@some_url); ?> When I display the view, although the photo is displayed correctly and the link works, I get the following error in my php_errors.log file: Action "media/photo" does not exist. Why is symfony trying to parse the path to the image as a url? Does anyone know how to fix this?

  Situation: On my site, I have a comment model, with a deleted field. Users cannot see deleted comments, but I would like to allow admins to see deleted comments, if they choose to. This will be accomplished by having a scope for users with the admin role which allows them to view comments with the deleted field set to false, as well as true. Question: Is Cancan's accessible_by method my best choice for doing so? From what I've read, it sounds like it will facilitate exactly what I'm trying to do, but, I don't want to implement something that is inefficient, if there is a better method.

• ASP.NET MVC 2 - ViewData empty after POST

  I don't really know where to look for an error... the situation: I have an ASPX view which contains a form and a few input's, and when I click the submit button everything is POST'ed to one of my ASP.NET MVC actions. When I set a breakpoint there, it is hit correctly. When I use FireBug to see what is sent to the action, I correctly see data1=abc&data2=something&data3=1234. However, nothing is arriving in my action method. ViewData is empty, there is no ViewData["data1"] or anything else that would show that data arrived. How can this be? Where can I start looking for the error?

The issue is, it will block the dev server by asking for user input from the terminal. How can I pass it the '--noinput' option to prevent asking me anything? I have other ways of marking users as super-user, so there's no need for the user input, but I really need to call syncdb (and flush) programmatically, without logging on to the server via ssh. Any help is appreciated.

• iOS CollectionView with horizontal paging instead of vertical scrolling

  I'm working on a project for a client. It's an iPad pdf reader. The client wants a collection view, but instead of scrolling vertically, he wants it to use a page control. It's pretty hard to explain, but what I basically want is all the PDFs on the device in a grid, like on the iBooks app. When that grid overflows, I want to use a page control to display the extra elements on a second page (like in the weather app). My thoughts on this were: - Create a page control with one page. - On that page, create a UICollectionView. - If the number of elements is greater than 9 add a page to the page control and add another UICollectionView, until there are enough pages to display all elements. However, this seems horribly inefficient, so my question is if there's a better way to do this.

I'm using the following code to generate section headers: -(NSString*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0) { NSString *header = @"Header 1"; return header; } if (section == 1) { NSString *header = @"Header 2"; return header; } else { NSString *header = @"Header 3"; return header; } } When my table is displayed, there are two headers for each section - one with white text on a gray bar that stretches across the screen (like the letter separators in the Contacts app), and one in gray text on the table background (which is the one I want). Both headers have identical text. Where is the first header coming from?

I need that when I have no ID in the DB to show "ERROR". I have also tried to use rescue ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound but same happens. All help is appreciated.
