My first Windows Phone 7 App: Getting SharePoint Content

Earlier this week at the Mix10 conference, Microsoft announced the developer story of the Windows Phone 7 Series. As expected, its all about Silverlight! For all the details I highly recommend to watch the recorded keynotes (day 1, day 2). Tonight I could resist trying to build my very first Windows Phone 7 application; the traditional Hello World thingy. Because the developer tools (Visual Studio 2010 and the free Visual Studio 2010 Express) have pretty nice templates, that wasnt much of a challenge....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? Negative downtime, 200% uptime reported by uprecords/uptimed

I'm curious as to how I could have negative downtime that keeps increasing, as well as uptime beyond 100%. Swept AABB vs Line Segment 2D

I've really exhausted as much as Google has to give, I've spent a solid week googling every combination of words for an "AABBvsLine sweep", downloaded countless collision demos, dissected SAT intersection examples and an AABBvsAABB sweep trying to figure out how to approach this. I've not found a single thing covering this specific pairing. Can anyone shed any light on how to get the hit time of a swept AABB vs a Line segment in 2D? I'm still getting familiar with the SAT but I do know how to implement it to a degree, I'm just not sure how to extract the hit time from the velocity in the non axis aligned separating axes for the sweep. I really would appreciate anything at the moment, some code or even some helpful links, I'm at my wits end!

If you were going to set up a Email Alerts for the customers of your website to subscribe to, what rules of etiquette ought to be followed? I can think of a few off the top of my head: Users can Opt-Out Text Only (Or tasteful Remote Images) Not sent out more than once a week Clients have fine-grained control over what they receive emails about (Only receive what they are interested in) What other points should I consider? From a programming standpoint, what is the best method for setting up and running email notifications? Should I use an ASP.NET Service? A Windows Service? What are the pitfalls to either? How should I log emails that are sent? I don't care if they're received, but I do need to be able to prove that I did or did not send an email.

Oracle Response to Apache Departure from JCP

Last month Oracle renominated Apache to the Java Executive Committee because we valued their active participation and perspective on Java. Earlier this week, by an overwhelming majority, the Java Executive Committee voted to move Java forward by formally initiating work on both Java SE 7 and SE 8 based on their technical merits. Apache voted against initiating technical committee work on both SE 7 and SE 8, effectively voting against moving Java forward. Now, despite supporting the technical direction, Apache have announced that they are quitting the Executive Committee. Oracle has a responsibility to move Java forward and to maintain the uniformity of the Java standard for the millions of Java developers and the majority of Executive Committee members agree. We encourage Apache to reconsider its position and remain a part of the process to move Java forward. ASF and many open source projects within it are an important part of the overall Java ecosystem. Polishing the MonologFX API

Earlier this week, I released "into the wild" a new JavaFX 2.x dialog library, MonologFX, that incorporated some elements of DialogFX and new features I'd been working on over time. While I did try to get the API to a point of reasonable completion (nothing is ever truly "finished", of course!), there was one bit of functionality that I'd included without providing any real "polish": that of the button icons. Good friend and fellow JFXtras teammate José Pereda Llamas suggested I fix that oversight and provide an update (thanks much, José!), thus this post. What You Said: How You Keep Your Email SPAM Free and Tidy

Earlier this week we asked you to share your favorite tips and tricks for keeping your inbox tidy. Now we’re back to share your–rather aggressive–SPAM dodging tricks. HTG readers are serious about beating back SPAM. While some readers such as TechGeek01 took a fairly laid back approach to junk mail: I usually just read emails, and delete them when my inbox gets kinda full. As for spam, I mark it as such, and the automated spam filter usually catches it the next time. It’s a fairly simple method, I know, but it’s efficient, and takes almost no effort, other than a monthly cleaning. For other readers it was outright war. ArchersCall uses a system of layers and whitelists: I have a triple system and rarely see spam. IOUC Summit: Open Arms and Cheese Shoes

Last week's International Oracle User Group Committee (IOUC) Summit at Oracle HQ was a high point of the past year, for a number of reasons: A "quorum" of Java User Group leaders, several Java Champions among them, were in attendance (Bert Breeman, Stephan Janssen, Dan Sline, Stephen Chin, Bruno Souza, Van Riper, and others), and it was great to get face time with them. Their guidance and advice about JavaOne and other things are always much appreciated. Mix in some Oracle ACE Directors (Debra Lilley, Dan Morgan, Sten Vesterli, and others), and you really have the making of a dynamic group. Stephan describes it best: "We (the JUG Leaders) discovered that behind the more formal dress code the ACE directors are actually as crazy as we are." (See link below for more.) Thanks to Bert's (NLJug) kindness, I am now the proud owner of a bonafide, straight-from-the-NL cheese shoe. How the heck did he get this through security? Blue people on flash videos (Youtube, Vimeo, etc...)

After a recent update I am seeing EVERYONE in any video blue. Only the people are blue. First I was thinking it was an April Fools joke about the song Blue from Eiffel 65 but it has been 4 days already. I tested on another 2 PCs, same problem. It started about a week ago I think. I am using Flash 11.2.202.228 with Firefox 11. The problem is not there if I use Google Chrome. In Chrome the Flash Player is 11.2.31.118

Open XML SDK 2 Released

It is a very powerful tool for generating documents without using the Office DLLs. It is also the main technology that I have been working with for the last six months. C# Adds Optional and Named Arguments

Earlier this month Microsoft released Visual Studio 2010, the .NET Framework 4.0 (which includes ASP.NET 4.0), and new versions of their core programming languages: C# 4.0 and Visual Basic 10. In designing the latest versions of C# and VB, Microsoft has worked to bring the two languages into closer parity. Certain features available in C# were missing in VB, and vice-a-versa. How important is positive feedback in code reviews?

Is it important to point out the good parts of the code during a code review and the reasons why it is good? Positive feedback might be just as useful for the developer being reviewed and for the others that participate in the review. We are doing reviews using an online tool, so developers can open reviews for their committed code and others can review their code within a given time period (e.g. 1 week). Others can comment on the code or other reviewer's comments. Should there be a balance between positive and negative feedback?
