  • C#: Storting Instance of Objects in (Hashtable)

    - by DaGambit
Hi I tried filling a Hashtable in the following way: ResearchCourse resCourse= new ResearchCourse();//Class Instance resCourse.CID="RC1000"; resCourse.CName="Rocket Science"; TaughtCourse tauCourse= new TaughtCourse();//Class Instance tauCourse.CID="TC1000"; tauCourse.CName="Marketing"; Hashtable catalog = new Hashtable(); catalog.Add("1", "resCourse.CID"); catalog.Add("2", "tauCourse.CID"); foreach (DictionaryEntry de in catalog) { Console.WriteLine("{0}, {1}", de.Key, de.Value); } Output Result to Console was: 1, resCourse.CID 2, tauCourse.CID Expected Result to be: 1, RC1000 2, TC2000 What am I misunderstanding about Hashtables? What is an easy way for the Hashtable to store the class instance and its values?

  • What else I must do allow my method to handle any type of objects

    - by NewHelpNeeder
    So to allow any type object I must use generics in my code. I have rewrote this method to do so, but then when I create an object, for example Milk, it won't let me pass it to my method. Ether there's something wrong with my generic revision, or Milk object I created is not good. How should I pass my object correctly and add it to linked list? This is a method that causes error when I insert an item: public void insertFirst(T dd) // insert at front of list { Link newLink = new Link(dd); // make new link if( isEmpty() ) // if empty list, last = newLink; // newLink <-- last else first.previous = newLink; // newLink <-- old first newLink.next = first; // newLink --> old first first = newLink; // first --> newLink } This is my class I try to insert into linked list: class Milk { String brand; double size; double price; Milk(String a, double b, double c) { brand = a; size = b; price = c; } } This is test method to insert the data: public static void main(String[] args) { // make a new list DoublyLinkedList theList = new DoublyLinkedList(); // this causes: // The method insertFirst(Comparable) in the type DoublyLinkedList is not applicable for the arguments (Milk) theList.insertFirst(new Milk("brand", 1, 2)); // insert at front theList.displayForward(); // display list forward theList.displayBackward(); // display list backward } // end main() } // end class DoublyLinkedApp Declarations: class Link<T extends Comparable<T>> {} class DoublyLinkedList<T extends Comparable<T>> {}

  • PHP OOP: Parenting objects/functions?

    - by Industrial
Hi everyone, How is parenting functions in PHP done properly according to the following example? Can I make sure that my array isn't overwritten and the previous values inside array lost, on each addArray call? function arraybase() { $this->array = new ArrayObject(); return $this; } function addArray($value) { parent::$this->arraybase(); $this->array->append($value); return $this; } $this->addArray('1')->addArray('2')->addArray('3'); // outputs: Array ( [0] => 3 ) Thanks a lot!

  • IEnumerator seems to be effecting all objects, and not one at a time

    - by PFranchise
Hey, I am trying to alter an attribute of an object. I am setting it to the value of that same attribute stored on another table. There is a one to many relationship between the two. The product end is the one and the versions is the many. Right now, both these methods that I have tried have set all the products returned equal to the final version object. So, in this case they are all the same. I am not sure where the issue lies. Here are my two code snipets, both yield the same result. int x = 1 IEnumerator<Product> ie = productQuery.GetEnumerator(); while (ie.MoveNext()) { ie.Current.RSTATE = ie.Current.Versions.First(o => o.VersionNumber == x).RSTATE; x++; } and foreach (var product in productQuery) { product.RSTATE = product.Versions.Single(o => o.VersionNumber == x).RSTATE; x++; } The versions table holds information for previous products, each is distinguished by the version number. I know that it will start at 1 and go until it reaches the current version, based on my query returning the proper number of products. Thanks for any advice.

  • I need a dictionary-like mapping between characters and other kinds of objects. Which class would be

    - by nullPointerException
This is in Squeak/Pharo. If I want to have a mapping between Character objects like $a and $b to other kinds of objects, and want to look up those other objects based on the Character, what is the best class to use? Dictionary is an obvious choice, but seems wasteful to be hashing character objects which are basically already numbers. I guess what I want is a kind of array where the character value (number) is used as an index/offset, but I am not sure if this is possible with Unicode.

  • can't create partial objects with accepts_nested_attributes_for

    - by Isaac Cambron
I'm trying to build a form that allows users to update some records. They can't update every field, though, so I'm going to do some explicit processing (in the controller for now) to update the model vis-a-vis the form. Here's how I'm trying to do it: Family model: class Family < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :people, dependent: :destroy accepts_nested_attributes_for :people, allow_destroy: true, reject_if: ->(p){p[:name].blank?} end In the controller def check edited_family = Family.new(params[:family]) #compare to the one we have in the db #update each person as needed/allowed #save it end Form: = form_for current_family, url: check_rsvp_path, method: :post do |f| = f.fields_for :people do |person_fields| - if person_fields.object.user_editable = person_fields.text_field :name, class: "person-label" - else %p.person-label= person_fields.object.name The problem is, I guess, that Family.new(params[:family]) tries to pull the people out of the database, and I get this: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound in RsvpsController#check Couldn't find Person with ID=7 for Family with ID= That's, I guess, because I'm not adding a field for family id to the nested form, which I suppose I could do, but I don't actually need it to load anything from the database for this anyway, so I'd rather not. I could also hack around this by just digging through the params hash myself for the data I need, but that doesn't feel a slick. It seems nicest to just create an object out of the params hash and then work with it. Is there a better way? How can I just create the nested object?

  • Static selection and Ruby on Rails objects

    - by Dave
Hi all- I have a simple problem, but am having trouble wrapping my head around it. I have an video object that should have one or more "genres". This list of genres should be prepopulated and then the user should just select one or more using autocomplete or some such. Here is the question: Is it worth creating a table with genres for the static selection? Or should it just be included in the presentation layer? If there is a static table, how do we name it correctly. I envision something like this class Video < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :genres ... end class Genre < ... belongs_to :video ... end But then we get a table called genre, that basically maps all the selected genres to their parent videos. There would need to be some static table to reference the static genres. Is this the best way to do it? Sorry if this was rambl-y a little stream of conciousness. Thanks!

  • Passing derived objects in a constructure

    - by Clarence Klopfstein
This is a bit of a convoluted question, hopefully I can make it clear. I am finding that this may not be possible, but am trying to see if anybody has a solution. I have four classes, two are core classes and two are those core classes extended: extUser Extends coreUser extSecurity Extends coreSecurity In the constructor for coreUser you have this: public coreUser(string id, ref coreSecurity cs) When trying to extend coreUser you would have this: public extUser(string id ref extSecurity es) : base(id, ref es) This fails because es is of type, extSecurity and the base class expects a type of coreSecurity. I've not found anyway to cast this to allow for me to override this base class in C#. In VB it works just fine. Ideas?

  • Mock Objects properties not changing

    - by frictionlesspulley
I am new to using Mock test in .Net. I am testing out a financial transaction which is of the following nature: int amt =20; //sets all the props and func and returns a FinaceAccount. //Note I did not SetUp the amt of the account. var account =GetFinanceAccount() //service layer to be tested _financeService.tranx(account,amt); //checks if the amt was added to the account.amt //here the amt comes out same as that set in GetFinanceAccount. Assert.AreEqual(account.amt ,amt) I know that the function tranx works correctly but there is an issue with the test. Are there any GOOD reference material on Mocking in .Net

  • Intersection() and Except() is too slow with large collections of custom objects

    - by Theo
    I am importing data from another database. My process is importing data from a remote DB into a List<DataModel> named remoteData and also importing data from the local DB into a List<DataModel> named localData. I am then using LINQ to create a list of records that are different so that I can update the local DB to match the data pulled from remote DB. Like this: var outdatedData = this.localData.Intersect(this.remoteData, new OutdatedDataComparer()).ToList(); I am then using LINQ to create a list of records that no longer exist in remoteData, but do exist in localData, so that I delete them from local database. Like this: var oldData = this.localData.Except(this.remoteData, new MatchingDataComparer()).ToList(); I am then using LINQ to do the opposite of the above to add the new data to the local database. Like this: var newData = this.remoteData.Except(this.localData, new MatchingDataComparer()).ToList(); Each collection imports about 70k records, and each of the 3 LINQ operation take between 5 - 10 minutes to complete. How can I make this faster? Here is the object the collections are using: internal class DataModel { public string Key1{ get; set; } public string Key2{ get; set; } public string Value1{ get; set; } public string Value2{ get; set; } public byte? Value3{ get; set; } } The comparer used to check for outdated records: class OutdatedDataComparer : IEqualityComparer<DataModel> { public bool Equals(DataModel x, DataModel y) { var e = string.Equals(x.Key1, y.Key1) && string.Equals(x.Key2, y.Key2) && ( !string.Equals(x.Value1, y.Value1) || !string.Equals(x.Value2, y.Value2) || x.Value3 != y.Value3 ); return e; } public int GetHashCode(DataModel obj) { return 0; } } The comparer used to find old and new records: internal class MatchingDataComparer : IEqualityComparer<DataModel> { public bool Equals(DataModel x, DataModel y) { return string.Equals(x.Key1, y.Key1) && string.Equals(x.Key2, y.Key2); } public int GetHashCode(DataModel obj) { return 0; } }

  • Binding multiple objects in Grails

    - by WaZ
I have there domain classes: :: Person. (Person.ID, Name,Address) :: Designation.(Designation.ID, Title, Band) :: SalarySlip (Person.ID, Designation.ID, totalIncome, Tax etc etc.) In the update method the person controller when I assign a person a designation from a list of designation values I want to insert a new record inside SalarySlip. Something like: def update = { def SalarySlipInstance = new SalarySlip() SalarySlipInstance.Person.ID = Params.ID //is this correct? SalarySlipInstance.Designation.ID = ?? //since the value is coming from a list. How can I bind this field? } Much Appreciated, Thanks, WB

  • DDD: Where to create entity objects?

    - by ciscoheat
I have three entities that must interact: User, SupportTicketand PhoneConversation. When someone calls in requesting help, the User should have a SupportTicket assigned to him, with a PhoneConversation assigned to the Ticked describing the call. My question is: In what entity should I put the method CreatePhoneSupportTicket() that creates a new SupportTicket and a PhoneConversation, relates them to each other and finally relates the SupportTicket to the User? I'm guessing it can't be on the user because that would violate the SRP (the user does a few more things). But the method itself does more than one thing, it should create both a SupportTicket and a PhoneConversation. Is this a situation when a Service is a better solution then putting methods on entities? Thanks for your help!

  • Rails - using :include to find objects based on their child's attributes

    - by adam
I have a sentence and correction model class Sentence < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :correction class Correction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :sentence and I'm trying find all sentences which don't have a correction. To do this I'm simply looking for corrections which don't exist i.e. whose id = nil. But it is failing and i can't figure out why Sentence.find :all, :include => :correction, :conditions => {:correction => {:id => nil}} Perhaps its the syntax or maybe just the overall approach. Can anyone help?

  • Decorator Design Pattern Use With Service Objects (wSingleton)

    - by Dustin
I'm working on a project where I need to add some functionality to a service object and using a decorator to add it in seems like a good fit. However, I've only ever used decorators with simple beans, never on a singleton like a service object. Has anyone ever done this before and what are the pros and cons? In this case I don't think creating a subclass will work so a decorator seems to be a good fit. What are your thoughts on doing this?

  • Why should I prune old objects from Active Directory?

    - by Nic
What is the point of pruning old objects from Active Directory, especially computer accounts? If a computer is wiped or destroyed, then the stale computer account doesn't pose any security risk because it can't be used any more. And I can't imagine that stale objects affect performance very much, because if they aren't being changed then they aren't being replicated. So, what is the real motivation to keep Active Directory clean of stale objects?

  • JSP::Confused with the session objects

    - by Legend
I just started exploring Java Servlets and JSP and am a little confused about the sessions object. Inside a servlet I have this: public class SampleServlet extends HttpServlet { public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws IOException { HttpSession session = request.getSession(true); session.setAttribute("_session", "_value"); response.sendRedirect("page2.jsp"); } } Now, inside page2.jsp, there is a session object as well, but when I do this <% out.print(session.getAttribute("_session")) %> it gives me an error. Can someone tell me the right way of doing this? As to what I am trying to do, I want to share some session variables.

  • How do games move around objects (in general) (OGL)

    - by user146780
I'm sure there's not just 1 answer to this but, do game engines actually change the vectors in memory, or use gltransformations? Because pushing and popping the matrix all the time seems inefficient, but if you keep modifying the verticies you cant make use of display lists. So I'm wondering how it's done in general. Thanks

  • C#, Using Custom Generic Collection faster with objects than List

    - by Kaminari
Hello, I'm using for now List< to iterate through some object collection and find matching element, The problem is that object has only 2 significant values Name and Link (strings) but has some other values wich I dont want to compare. I'm thinkig about using something like HashSet (wich is exactly what I'm searching for - fast) from .NET 3.5 but target framework has to be 2.0. There is something called Power Collections here: http://powercollections.codeplex.com/ But maybe there is other way? If not, can you suggest me a suitable custom collection?

  • Performance of Serialized Objects in C++

    - by jm1234567890
Hi Everyone, I'm wondering if there is a fast way to dump an STL set to disk and then read it back later. The internal structure of a set is a binary tree, so if I serialize it naively, when I read it back the program will have to go though the process of inserting each element again. I think this is slow even if it is read back in correct order, correct me if I am wrong. Is there a way to "dump" the memory containing the set into disk and then read it back later? That is, keep everything in binary format, thus avoiding the re-insertion. Do the boost serialization tools do this? Thanks! EDIT: oh I should probably read, http://www.parashift.com/c++-faq-lite/serialization.html I will read it now... no it doesn't really help

  • Adding an keyUp-event to form objects

    - by reporter
Hello folks, I've got the issue to add a browser event to some input fields. The challenge I have to face is, that one parameter of my target function is the 'event'-variable and the second one an object. For a better understanding here some codes:The HTML object: <div id="1_dateFieldAdvanced" class="xp set"> <div id="1_dateFieldAdvanced_label" class="label">Birthday</div> <div id="1_dateFieldAdvanced_value" class="value date"> <input class="day" name="dayOfBirth" value="66" maxlength="2" type="text"> <input class="month" name="monthOfBirth" value="67" maxlength="2" type="text"> <input class="year" name="yearOfBirth" value="" maxlength="4" type="text"> </div> </div> The source code of target method is like below: function advancedDateFields(currentFieldAsObject, nextField, currentValueLength, ev){} Unfortunatly the HTML and the Javascript code is generated automatically, so I'm unable to refactore the code. My question is, how can I pass the key word 'event' and the other parameters? My tries did always fail. :-(

  • How to select all ActiveX objects in an area using a mouse in Excel?

    - by enderland
Because of this problem with ActiveX objects changing size, I am not grouping my ActiveX objects in my Excel worksheet. Grouping them causes my solution hack to not work which is quite annoying. However, I often times want to be able to essentially use the mouse and select a region and then select all ActiveX objects contained in the region. This would also be useful for easily selecting objects to group them initially. Basically: Use mouse to select area Automatically select all ActiveX components in region I'm fine with a VBA solution if needed. How can I do this?

  • Returning objects with dynamic memory

    - by Caulibrot
I'm having trouble figuring out a way to return an object (declared locally within the function) which has dynamic memory attached to it. The problem is the destructor, which runs and deletes the dynamic memory when the object goes out of scope, i.e. when I return it and want to use the data in the memory that has been deleted! I'm doing this for an overloaded addition operator. I'm trying to do something like: MyObj operator+( const MyObj& x, const MyObj& y ) { MyObj z; // code to add x and y and store in dynamic memory of z return z; } My destructor is simply: MyObj::~MyObj() { delete [] ptr; } Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
