  • JSF - database character encoding

    Hi there, I have a Java Web application using GlassFish 3, JSF2.0 (facelets) and JPA (EclipseLink). The problem I'm facing, is that if I'm saving entities to the database with the update() method, String data loses integrity; '?' is shown instead of some characters. The server, pages and database is/are configured to use UTF-8. After I post form data, the next page shows the data correctly. Furthermore it "seems" in debug that the String property of the current entity stores the correct value too. Dunno if NetBeans debug can be trusted; might be that it decodes correctly, however it's incorrect. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! Daniel

    I have this class that contains vars for db connection; Public Shared s As String Public Shared con As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("foo").ToString() Public Shared c As New SqlConnection(con) Public Shared x As New SqlCommand(s, c) I import this to my page like this; Imports DBVars I'm then able to access these vars from my page. But if I try to import them into a user control the variables are not available. Am I making an error or is this expected? Thanks.

Is the use of ifstream here efficient? Can I do better? I'm reading about mmap() implementations but I'm not understanding them 100%. The input file is simply text strings with *nix line terminations.

  • Error 500 on template.render() with jinja2

    I am working on playing with some Python to create a webapp. At first I put the HTML in a string, using %s to fill certain elements. That all worked perfectly. Now I want to put the HTML in a template, so I followed this tutorial. My code looks like this (I deleted irrelevant code for this error): import codecs import cgi import os import jinja2 jinja_environment = jinja2.Environment(loader=jinja2.FileSystemLoader(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__)))) class Rot13Handler(webapp2.RequestHandler): def get(self): template = jinja_environment.get_template('rot13.html') self.response.out.write(template.render({'text': ''})) When I replace just template.render({'text': ''}) a random string, the program works fine. I did add the latest jinja2 library to my app.yaml, and naturally my rot13.html does exist with the {{ text }} added. So could anyone please help me in the right direction? I don't know why it's going wrong.

    Hello Im building a new version of an iPhone application and Im wondering if I should review how my app communicates with the server. My iPhone client sends and receives XML over HTTP requests. To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object?     I need to make a Function that receives a Session Key and a Session Value and call this function on a normal HTML onClick event. When this function is called the Session variable is assigned the Key I sent with the Value I sent.     Hello everyone, I have two servlets: LoginServlet and MailServlet. LoginServlet queries a mysql table using jdbc to get a string(eMail). What I want is to forward this string to MailServlet which in turn will send an email to that e-mail ID sent by LoginServlet. My question is how do I call and send the variable eMail to MailServlet, from LoginServlet? I thought of creating an instance of the MailServlet as : MailServlet servlet = new MailServlet(); And then use the servlet object to call the function doGet() in MailServlet. But I am feeling that there is some error in this as this is not the right way to call a servlet. So how do I call and pass a variable to MailServlet?

    Hi, I' m implementing a custom STL map. I need to make sure that any data type (basic or user defined) key will work with it. I declared the Map class as a template which has two parameters for the key and the value. My question is if I need to use a string as the key type, how can I overload the < and operators for string type keys only?? In template specialization we have to specialize the whole class with the type we need as I understand it. Is there any way I can do this in a better way?? What if I add a separate Key class and use it as the template type for Key? Thank You!!

    I tried importing a database dump from a SQL file and the insert failed when inserting the string Mér into a field defined as varying(3). I didn't capture the exact error, but it pointed to that specific value with the constraint of varying(3). Given that I considered this unimportant to what I was doing at the time, I just changed the value to Mer, it worked, and I moved on. Is a varying field with its limit taking into account length of the byte string? What really boggles my mind is that this was dumped from another PostgreSQL database. So it doesn't make sense how a constraint could allow the value to be written initially.
