• linux ssh -X graphical applications will not start when system load is high

  So I am using ssh -X to access a server. I am at a Xubuntu desktop accessing a Ubuntu server that is in the next room. Usually everything works fine, but when the system load gets high, any graphical applications I have freeze and fail to be restarted. This happens even if the process that is causing the high load has been niced to a low priority with "nice -n 19". And even though the system load is high, the command line works fine with no delay, and other applications I have running on the server (e.g. virtual machines) run fine. But any graphical application running through X dies. When the graphical applications fail they usually give out an error message that suggests a time-out. It seems that something connected to X has a low priority and times out. But what is it, and how does one fix it?

  I have seen lately a concept of installing open web applications in Firefox and Google Chrome just like extensions here . While the site says it as a installable websites. It looks very similar to bookmarks to me. When you click either bookmarks or this installed applications, it opens new tab and the site or application can be viewed. My question is what is the main difference between normal web application like Gmail, or Super user or Facebook and these installable websites? Also what is the advantage in using this installable web apps from normal web applications which we can access by entering url in the browser address bar? I hope this is the right place to post this question. If not please guide me accordingly.

For applications that can't be re-IP'd (many exist in this category), the general answer is to nuke and pave (or extend a clusterable application, then remove the segment that needs to be "moved"). For "normal" applications (httpd, mail, directory services, etc), what are the checks ou perform before, during, and after a move to ensure the health of the migrated app/server? • Unable to access Citrix XenApp 6 published applications externally

  We are trying to use a trial of Citrix XenApp 6 Fundamentals to virtualise a couple of applications as a proof of concept. We haven't ever used it before so I confess to be a noob with it. We can connect to the XenApp web interface, and the iPad app will connect and list the applications, but the applications themselves will not load. I discovered in the .ica file that it was attempting to connect to the internal IP address of the server instead of its static external. I have been following various threads on Citrix but nothing seems to have fixed it for me. The server is deployed on an EC2 instance with a static elastic IP. All the ports are opened and I can telnet into the XenApp server on 1493 and I get the ICA response. I have also run on ALTADDR and provided the external IP address. Does anyone have any ideas?

• MVVM Prism Nested Regions Can't Find Child Regions

  I have a Menu (Telerik RadMenu) that has nested regions defined in the Shell. In my modules I will register the modules menu or toolbar items with these regions. Everything works fine for the root regions, but when I try and add something to a child region, such as the File region on the Menu, I get the error "The exception message was: The region manager does not contain the FileMenuRegion region." However like I said if I change this code regionManager.Regions[RegionNames.FileMenuRegion].Add(menuItem); to this regionManager.Regions[RegionNames.MainMenuRegion].Add(menuItem); everything works fine. Below is the XAML for my menu so you can see the region names and how they are constructed. Any help would greatly be appreciated as this is bewildering and driving me crazy. • jQuery Select Menu Replacement

  I have a select drop-down that selects a theme for the current page the user is on: <select id="style" name="acct-stylenum"> <option value="1" selected="true">Light</option> <option value="2">Dark</option> </select> Now what I would like to do is add two divs that will also control this select menu. I would much rather have the user select between two images than a select menu. The divs are as follows: <div class="style-box light"></div> <div class="style-box dark"></div> I would like to use jQuery to make the select menu hidden but still use its input. Also I would like the divs to control the menus value and show a selected state. Please let me know the easiest way this can be done using jQuery or JavaScript. Thanks in advance. -B

• Cocoa Application with Menubar but no Dock Icon / switch menu

  Hi, This is yet one more of those "how to switch from running with a dock icon to running without one" questions with a twist.. I don't want the dock icon but I do want a menu bar when the application is at the front. Is that possible? Running an application with LSUIElement set to 1 in the plist will launch the application without a dock icon, not showing up in the command-tab switch list and without a menu. You can switch from that mode to the "normal" mode with all three switched on via SetSystemModeUI from 10.2 onwards and via NSApplication setApplicationActivationPolicy since 10.6, but crucially there is no way back to the previous mode (go figure). So one way around this would be to launch with LSUIElement = 1 and then activate the menu bar when the application gets the focus and deactivate it on the application losing the focus.. alas I can't find a way of doing that.   Hey guys, I need to create a custom menu item for Visual Studio 2010 Add-in in C#, but I have had no luck in coming with a solution anytime soon. I am aware that there was a similar post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2486818/visual-studio-add-in-adding-a-context-menu-item-to-solution-explorer But it did not help, as the blog follows the process through the integration package, and the video is done through VB. I had attempted to convert the VB syntax to the C# syntax, but about half way through the video, the Add-in methods has significantly changed from 2005 to 2010, as some of the methods have removed or changed. Is there any good tutorials on making a custom menu item on the Solution Explorer in the lastest Visual Studio in C#, and is there a good website that could be used as a reference for looking over the VS add-in API? I've used Microsoft's main website, however it is confusing and wordy, which is difficult to understand and find the methods, properties, or commands that I am looking for. Any help would be appreicated, Thanks in advance.

• Suggestion for dragster/dropzone like dock menu

  I'd like to create a dragster/dropzone like dock menu. Looks a bit like a stack with a nsview in it. After a lot if documentation searching and googling I've found a way to determine a dock icon's location. (http://cocoadev.com/forums/comments.php?DiscussionID=1431) Is nzbdrop creating a view which just looks like an stack to display it's menu or is there a better way of creating this? Additional info: I'm not looking for the drop like functionality just the nice way the DropBox window is displayed as an bubble/stack menu on top of it's app icon.

• Transparent PNG menu item backgrounds in IE6 with rollovers

  Hi I have been trying to do this for what feels like all my life I have a list menu with block display links, each link has a sliding doors png background image. I have used this javascript (http://www.ideashower.com/our_solutions/png-hover/) to implement the alphaimageloader fix for ie6 using a transparent gif. When I test it for the first time it works but if I click to a different page and then click back it doesn't work anymore - the menu completely disappears, I can get it to work again by duplicating the transparent gif and changing it's name, but again if I go to another page and then come back to it, it stops working and the menu dissappears. Is this a server caching issue or something like that. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated! Thanks

• Handling Hide/Show dock icon menu in AIR on OS X

  I'm trying to figure out how to access the Show/Hide option that OS X automatically adds to the dock icon menu. The problem is that no matter what I do to hide my app, the dock icon menu will always show Hide and only if I click that option does it switch to Show. I want to have my app toggle visibility using the Invoke event but if a user hides the app that way and then right clicks the dock icon, they won't see Show, just Hide. Is there an event I can monitor for it? Or that I can trigger? I just want to have that menu option status be synced to whatever visibility status I set programatically. This has been driving me nuts!

  Hi all, I'm having some trouble changing an image being displayed on a page by way of a dropdown menu selection. This works fine.. getting the dropdown menu to give me an alert when I make a selection. Even though the menu is embedded within a division, paragraph, and label tag, it still works. "availableImages" is the name of my menu. function imageSelect() { var index = document.getElementById("myForm").availableImages.selectedIndex; var value = document.getElementById("myForm").availableImages.options[index].value; alert("test " + value); // alert box pops up upon list item selection } However, within the same division, I am having an issue with changing the source of my image tag...   Hello all, My software has two .EXE files : A.exe and B.exe. After installed on Window 7, the shortcut to A.exe is always shown in the start menu. (I don't know if 'Start menu' is the correct name or not, what I mean is the area above 'All Programs'). • Dealing with Unity's Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars under Free Pascal/Lazarus

  I've had some problems under the IDE that were fixed with unsettings and disabling Global menu and the Overlay Scrollbars. I've reported the problem in Lazarus' Mantis: #0021465, #0021467. There is also this bug report talking a bit more about it: #0019266 Their solution was to use unsettings to turn off Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars. I've had a quick search about the problem and there's an open bug report at Launchpad: overlay scrolling is broken in lazarus. So, is the problem related to "lib overlay scrollbar"? If it is, is there a solution via code, to avoid turning off both the Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars? If NOT, is there anyone taking notice and fixing the issue? Many thanks, Gus

• FlexNativeMenu Problem in Air Application

  I am trying to add a flexnativemenu to my air application and I have some problems... When I set it in the windowApplication, I get null errors in child controls so I tried to set this.menu = myMainMenu (which is my flexnativemenu) in the creation complete event but the menu doesn't show up... I tried to show an alert message before setting the menu and the menu appeared in the application. Is there a method I can call to force the application to "redraw" itself in the creationComplete event??? Thanks!

• CSS border and the :hover dynamic pseudo-class

  Hi All, I have built a persistent dropline menu with two levels using only CSS. It is pretty standard. It is a nested set of UL's and the UL's :hover state is what shows and hides the sub menu levels. Something like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | | Pets | *Colors* | Cars | | Red | Orange | Green | Blue| Yellow | I then added a 1px border at the bottom of the first level UL element. Like this: | *Pets* | Colors | Cars | -------------------------------------- | Cats | Dogs | Birds| Goats | Sheep | When I hover over a first level item (Pets), and then move the mouse down to the second level (Cats), the entire second level disappears. I finally figured out that the UL's 1px border is not included in the hover area for the UL. Can I add a border to the bottom of a dropline menu level without messing up the menu hovering? Thanks!

• AutoCompleteExtender positioning menu incorrectly when scrolled

  We have an AutoCompleteExtender linked to a TextBox. Both controls are placed inside an UpdatePanel, and the UpdatePanel is displayed as a pop-up dialog using a Javascript library (Ext.BasicDialog). The pop-up is a div on the page, not a separate window. The problem is that when the user scrolls inside the pop-up, the AutoCompleteExtender shows its menu in the wrong place. It looks like it is taking the visible distance from the top of the popup and positioning the menu from the top of the inner html of the popup (which is not visible) We are using Version 1.0.20229.20821 of the AjaxControlToolkit, and we are targetting ASP.NET Framework vewrsion 2.0. • datatables.net plugin hides table behind left menu

  I had a page that works perfectly in IE. Then I added the wonderful jQuery plugin datatables.net to it using this code in DOMReady with this code $('#articlestable-container table').dataTable({ "bPaginate": true, "bLengthChange": false, "bFilter": true, "bSort": false, "bInfo": false, "bAutoWidth": false }); Everything is fine in Webkit and Firefox browsers. See the image. But in IE, the table hides the menu that ideally should come over the table like this. As you can see, the sub-menu gets rendered behind the table. I don't think z-index is the culprit here. The sub-menu has z-index: 9999; anyway. What could be wrong? Any pointers to solve this will be very helpful.

• Auto-complete/suggestion popup menu in GtkTextView

  I'm trying to create a system that will allow me to respond to the current text and auto-complete/suggest what should come next. For example if the user starts to type "Batm" then the system would respond with a menu showing the full completed word "Batman". Think of an IDE like Eclipse or Visual Studio and you get the idea. I understand how to create a popup menu in Gtk+ but what I don't understand is the following: How do I grab the word that the user is currently typing from a GtkTextView (or SourceView) so that I can do a lookup and offer suggestions? How do I position the menu in such a way that it sits next to the current text item (like it would in an IDE)?   So, I'm having a problem whereby for some reason I can only add one instance of a .tooltipseperator to a drop down menu. E.g. I have to create a new .tooltipseperator if I want to add another to a different menu list.
