• Need an algorithm to group several parameters of a person under the persons name

  Hi. I have a bunch of names in alphabetical order with multiple instances of the same name all in alphabetical order so that the names are all grouped together. Beside each name, after a coma, I have a role that has been assigned to them, one name-role pair per line, something like whats shown below name1,role1 name1,role2 name1,role3 name1,role8 name2,role8 name2,role2 name2,role4 name3,role1 name4,role5 name4,role1 ... .. . I am looking for an algorithm to take the above .csv file as input create an output .csv file in the following format name1,role1,role2,role3,role8 name2,role8,role2,role4 name3,role1 name4,role5,role1 ... .. . So basically I want each name to appear only once and then the roles to be printed in csv format next to the names for all names and roles in the input file. The algorithm should be language independent. I would appreciate it if it does NOT use OOP principles :-) I am a newbie.

• Machine Learning Algorithm for Peer-to-Peer Nodes

  I want to apply machine learning to a classification problem in a parallel environment. Several independent nodes, each with multiple on/off sensors, can communicate their sensor data with the goal of classifying an event as defined by a heuristic, training data or both. Each peer will be measuring the same data from their unique perspective and will attempt to classify the result while taking into account that any neighbouring node (or its sensors or just the connection to the node) could be faulty. Nodes should function as equal peers and determine the most likely classification by communicating their results. Ultimately each node should make a decision based on their own sensor data and their peers' data. If it matters, false positives are OK for certain classifications (albeit undesirable) but false negatives would be totally unacceptable. Given that each final classification will receive good or bad feedback, what would be an appropriate machine learning algorithm to approach this problem with if the nodes could communicate with each other to determine the most likely classification?

  Hi, I am really confused about these three terms. My understanding is that: in the Factory pattern, there is no concrete factory. The factory builds the new objects according to the parameters. in Abstract Factory pattern, there are multiple concrete factories. The client has to create different concrete factories explicitly. Is that right? What are the other differences? Furthermore, what is the Factory Method pattern? Is it same as the Factory pattern?

• Virtual dedicated surver repetitive draining RAM, OOM constantly

  My linux (fedora red hat 7) virtual dedicated server has been experiencing OOM multiple times a day for the past several days. I thought the issue was with spamd/spamassassin but after disabling this the errors remains. The highest usage displayed on ps faux --cumulative: USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 28412 8.7 0.5 309572 109308 ? Ssl 22:09 0:00 /usr/sbin/named I'm not running any java applications so I'm not sure why the top issue is showing up. It is frustrating as I barely have anything running on the server and use the tiniest fraction of bandwidth. • HTML5 Cache manifest file itself is not cached, and called at each resource load

  We have a web app that runs on the iPhone.The manifest file is ok, and the resources(html, css, js) are cached correctly.The page sits in the home screen. The trouble is, when the page loads a resource from the cache, there is as well a GET call to the server to read the Cache Manifest file.The server is configured to send the correct header (max-age=31536000; public, etc...) and caches well all other files except the cache manifest itself. Is this a normal behavior? It looks there is a slight lag, because of that call, for each resource load.Any idea, if these multiple calls can get a status 304 or even better avoided?

• What's a good way to copy files from a PC to a Windows Mobile device?

  I have a C# application running on a server, and it needs to copy files out to multiple Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. These devices are connected to the network directly via Ethernet-enabled cradles (so they are not connected to a PC via ActiveSync). What different options do I have for doing this? I know RAPI can do this, but I'm not sure if it can copy something directly over the network like this. Also, I know RAPI uses ActiveSync DLLs and thus requires ActiveSync to be installed, and we would prefer to avoid doing this if possible. Is WMI a possibility? Can we use ordinary File.IO if we can somehow get the IP address of each device? Code samples or general knowledge would be most welcome.

• Secondary Domain Adds Extra Folder in URL during Postbacks

  My ASP.NET Website (C#, 3.5 framework, IIS7) is hosted at GoDaddy. There are multiple sites on the account. Currently when I perform postbacks or Response.Redirects on a secondary web site, the following URL appears in the address bar: www.mywebsite.com/webfolder/default.aspx Where the "webfolder" is the sub-directory on the server where the web site is hosted (i.e. SeverRoot/webfolder). The site seems to work with or without the folder in the URL. Is there a way to remove the folder from the URLs during postback? I think I have to use URL Rewriting (which GoDaddy supports using Microsoft's Rewrite Module) but I'm not sure how.

• How to Filter more than one field using WPF AutoCompleteBox

  i am trying to customize the suggestions on the AutoCompleteBox in the WPF Tool kit. Right now i have a last name field which when the user enters characters a query runs that retrieves the top 10 records based on that last name. i would also like to filter by first name, i tried splitting out the comma and searching by the last name and the characters entered in the first name. however, as soon as a space or comma is entered into the autocompletebox, the suggest functionality stops working, which I believe is because the ValueMemberPath property is set to be last name. Is there a work around for this, or a way to modify the ValueMemberPath to handle multiple values? Thanks!

• How to Play PC Games on Your TV

  No need to wait for Valve’s Steam Machines — connect your Windows gaming PC to your TV and use powerful PC graphics in the living room today. It’s easy — you don’t need any unusual hardware or special software. This is ideal if you’re already a PC gamer who wants to play your games on a larger screen. It’s also convenient if you want to play multiplayer PC games with controllers in your living rom. HDMI Cables and Controllers You’ll need an HDMI cable to connect your PC to your television. This requires a TV with HDMI-in, a PC with HDMI-out, and an HDMI cable. Modern TVs and PCs have had HDMI built in for years, so you should already be good to go. If you don’t have a spare HDMI cable lying around, you may have to buy one or repurpose one of your existing HDMI cables. Just don’t buy the expensive HDMI cables — even a cheap HDMI cable will work just as well as a more expensive one. Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI-out port on your PC and one end into the HDMI-In port on your TV. Switch your TV’s input to the appropriate HDMI port and you’ll see your PC’s desktop appear on your TV.  Your TV becomes just another external monitor. If you have your TV and PC far away from each other in different rooms, this won’t work. If you have a reasonably powerful laptop, you can just plug that into your TV — or you can unplug your desktop PC and hook it up next to your TV. Now you’ll just need an input device. You probably don’t want to sit directly in front of your TV with a wired keyboard and mouse! A wireless keyboard and wireless mouse can be convenient and may be ideal for some games. However, you’ll probably want a game controller like console players use. Better yet, get multiple game controllers so you can play local-multiplayer PC games with other people. The Xbox 360 controller is the ideal controller for PC gaming. Windows supports these controllers natively, and many PC games are designed specifically for these controllers. Note that Xbox One controllers aren’t yet supported on Windows because Microsoft hasn’t released drivers for them. Yes, you could use a third-party controller or go through the process of pairing a PlayStation controller with your PC using unofficial tools, but it’s better to get an Xbox 360 controller. Just plug one or more Xbox controllers into your PC’s USB ports and they’ll work without any setup required. While many PC games to support controllers, bear in mind that some games require a keyboard and mouse. A TV-Optimized Interface Use Steam’s Big Picture interface to more easily browse and launch games. This interface was designed for using on a television with controllers and even has an integrated web browser you can use with your controller. It will be used on the Valve’s Steam Machine consoles as the default TV interface. You can use a mouse with it too, of course. There’s also nothing stopping you from just using your Windows desktop with a mouse and keyboard — aside from how inconvenient it will be. To launch Big Picture Mode, open Steam and click the Big Picture button at the top-right corner of your screen. You can also press the glowing Xbox logo button in the middle of an Xbox 360 Controller to launch the Big Picture interface if Steam is open. Another Option: In-Home Streaming If you want to leave your PC in one room of your home and play PC games on a TV in a different room, you can consider using local streaming to stream games over your home network from your gaming PC to your television. Bear in mind that the game won’t be as smooth and responsive as it would if you were sitting in front of your PC. You’ll also need a modern router with fast wireless network speeds to keep up with the game streaming. Steam’s built-in In-Home Streaming feature is now available to everyone. You could plug a laptop with less-powerful graphics hardware into your TV and use it to stream games from your powerful desktop gaming rig. You could also use an older desktop PC you have lying around. To stream a game, log into Steam on your gaming PC and log into Steam with the same account on another computer on your home network. You’ll be able to view the library of installed games on your other PC and start streaming them. NVIDIA also has their own GameStream solution that allows you to stream games from a PC with powerful NVIDIA graphics hardware. However, you’ll need an NVIDIA Shield handheld gaming console to do this. At the moment, NVIDIA’s game streaming solution can only stream to the NVIDIA Shield. However, the NVIDIA Shield device can be connected to your TV so you can play that streaming game on your TV. Valve’s Steam Machines are supposed to bring PC gaming to the living room and they’ll do it using HDMI cables, a custom Steam controller, the Big Picture interface, and in-home streaming for compatibility with Windows games. You can do all of this yourself today — you’ll just need an Xbox 360 controller instead of the not-yet-released Steam controller. Whereby categories have a hierachly structure like: Man Shoes Sport Casual Watches Women Shoes Sport Casual Watches Tables: Sale: id name 1 Sale1 Product: id saleidfk name 1 1 a 2 1 b 3 1 c 4 1 d 5 1 e ProductCategory : productid categoryid 1 3 2 3 3 4 4 5 5 10 Category: id ParentCategoryIdFk name 1 null Men 2 1 Shoes 3 2 Sport 4 2 Casual 5 1 Watches 6 null Women 7 6 Shoes 8 7 Sport 9 7 Casual 10 6 Watches Question: Now on my website I want to create a control where only the categories are shown of a certain sale and where the categories are filled with the products of the sale. I also want to include the hierachly structure of the categories. So if we have a leave node, recusivly go up to the top node.   I'm starting on a javascript MMORPG that will actually work smoothly. Currently, I created a demo to prove that I can move characters around and have them chat with each other, as well as see eachother move around live. http://set.rentfox.net/ Now Javascript timers are something I have not used extensively, but from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong, is that having multiple setIntervals happening at the same time doesn't really work well b/c it's all on a single thread. Lets say I wanted to have 10 different people nuking fireballs at a monster by using sprite background positioning with setInterval -- that animation would require 10 setIntervals doing repainting of the DOM for sprite background-position shifts. Wouldn't that be a big buggy? I was wondering if there was a way around all this, perhaps using Canvas, so that animations can all happen concurrently without creating an event queue and I don't have to worry about timers. Hope that makes sense, and please let me know if I need to clarify further.

Before going to be in production I supposed to do a testing of this solution environment. Is there any suggestion to created a testing environment? To give more input to my environment; kannel is using an smpp connection to deliver messages to end client. So, I think i need to mimic some smpp server for kannel.

  Hi There. I am having trouble wrapping my head around how to make editable background images in my custom Drupal 6 theme. My client wants to have a different background image for each main section (which use multiple content types: page, blog, image gallery)... I am wondering, is there a way to make a custom content type into a dynamic background image block? I am using the Image, Image Cache, Views, CCK, Image Assist, Panels, Filefield, and Imagefield modules. What I'd like to do is add a background image field to various content types that allows a user to reference an image from the content library or upload a new image (similar to ImageAssist), and have it apply to a region in my template. Any suggestions on the best approach for this? Thank you!

• How to avoid SQLiteException locking errors

  I'm developing an android app. It has multiple threads reading from and writing to the android SQLite db. I am receiving the following error: SQLiteException: error code 5: database is locked I understand the SQLite locks the entire db on inserting/updating, but these errors only seems to happen when inserting/updating while I'm running a select query. The select query returns a cursor which is being left open quite a wile (a few seconds some times) while I iterate over it. If the select query is not running, I never get the locks. I'm surprised that the select could be locking the db.... is this possible, or is something else going on? What's the best way to avoid such locks? Thanks TAO

  Hi, this may be a weird problem but I’m not sure the best way to go about it.. I am using JQuery ajax tabs. The tab section is dynamic so multiple tabs can be added, as the content is loaded via Ajax the same content can be loaded into different tabs. The other important detail is that i am using the Cache option so the tabs maintain state. Now problems arise when more than one tab has been loaded. It looks like HTML items such as forms and divs now have duplicated id's within the DOM, so Ajax queries can no longer distinguish between the elements.. The result is that any JavaScript/Ajax breaks. Does anyone have any suggestions for way to tackle such a problem? Thanks in advance..

  Hey. I currently have this code: UIImage *image = [[UIImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:[imagesPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"/%@.png", [postsArrayID objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]]]; It's loading in an image to set in a UITableViewCell. This obviously leaks a lot of memory (I do release it, two lines down after setting the cells image to be that image), and I'm not sure if it caches the image at all. Is there another way, that doesen't leak so much, I can use to load in images multiple times, like in a tableView, from the Documents-directory of my app? Thanks.

• Google Maps, Ruby on Rails, Zoom level with one marker

  I am adding google maps support with apneadiving / Google-Maps-for-Rails (thanks awesome gem) I am finding one slight glitch, however, which very likely is my fault. auto_zoom works great when there are multiple markers. However, when there is only one marker it is zoomed in to the max level which is not pretty. "zoom" will only work when auto_zoom is false, so that's not what I want. So therefore you could use "maxZoom" but now users cannot zoom in manually beyond that point which is not what I want. Is there a way around this? Is my explanation making sense? Is this a limitation of Google Maps API? Thanks...

  My current project uses NUnit for unit tests and to drive UATs written with Selenium. Developers normally run tests using ReSharper's test runner in VS.Net 2003 and our build box kicks them off via NAnt. We would like to run the UAT tests in parallel so that we can take advantage of Selenium Grid/RCs so that they will be able to run much faster. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might be achieved? and/or best practices for testing Selenium tests against multiple browsers environments without writing duplicate tests automatically? • Are there clean ways to do these Quartz Triggers?

  I'm using Quartz to schedule some jobs but I have a few scenarios that I'm not sure how to resolve. 1) Lets say I have a job that is scheduled to run every 5 minutes. Generally that works well but periodically the job takes more than 5 minutes and I don't really want multiple instances of the job running simultaneously. 2) I have a job that can take between 1 and 60 minutes to complete. I want it to run continuously but pause for 10 minutes between runs, regardless of how long it took previously. I like using Quartz for this rather than some sort of loop because if a job crashes Quartz will still spin up a new one based on the schedule. I am using Quartz in Java right now.

• Pass elements of a list as arguments to a function in python

  I'm building a simple interpreter in python and I'm having trouble handling differing numbers of arguments to my functions. My current method is to get a list of the commands/arguments as follows. args = str(raw_input('>> ')).split() com = args.pop(0) Then to execute com, I check to see if it is in my dictionary of command- code mappings and if it is I call the function I have stored there. For a command with no arguments, this would look like: commands[com]() However, if a command had multiple arguments, I would want this: commands[com](args[0],args[1]) Is there some trick where I could pass some (or all) of the elements of my arg list to the function that I'm trying to call? Or is there a better way of implementing this without having to use python's cmd class?

• Is my approach correct to replicate this form with Reportlab?

  I need to generate the form seen here using Python/reportlab. http://www.flickr.com/photos/49740282@N06/4563137758/sizes/o/ I am attempting to do this by creating a custom flowable for the header at the top (with the boxes drawn) and then having a table flowable for the jewelry table below. What shows as the JEWELRY table for this example could potentially be multiple tables. I am having trouble getting my drawn header to "flow". It gets drawn, but then my table data overlays it instead of appearing below it. This is my first project with reportlab. Before I really get into debugging this, I would like to know from someone with reportlab experience if my approach is correct here. Thanks!
