  I've got a problem with the Entity Framework and the ForeignKeys. I've got a table "BC_Message_Assets" which has 3 FK's (MessageId, AssetId and StatusId). I create my "MessageAsset" like this MessageAsset messageAsset = new MessageAsset(); messageAsset.MessageStatusReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.MessageStatusSet", "Id", 1); messageAsset.AssetReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.AssetSet", "Id", 1); messageAsset.MessageReference.EntityKey = new EntityKey("MyEntities.MessageSet", "Id", messageId); context.AddToMessageAssetSet(messageAsset); context.SaveChanges(); But I got the following exception : The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint \"FK_BC_Message_Assets_BC_Assets\". The conflict occurred in database \"Test\", table \"dbo.BC_Assets\", column 'Id'.\r\nThe statement has been terminated. When I look at the query, I notice that the parameter value for AssetId is "0" despite that I provided "1" to the EntityKey. Here's the generated query : exec sp_executesql N'insert [dbo].[BC_Message_Assets]([MessageId], [AssetId], [CompletionTime], [StatusId]) values (@0, @1, null, @2) ',N'@0 int,@1 int,@2 int',@0=47,@1=0,@2=1 I can't explain what happens. I hardcoded "1" in the EntityKey and I received "0" in the query ?

• input type file alternative and file upload best practice

  Background: I am working on a file upload page that will extend an existing web portal. This page will allow for an end user to upload files from there local computer to our network (the files will not be stored on the web server, rather a remote workstation). The end user will have the ability to view the data that they have submitted by hyper-linking the files that have been uploaded on this page. Question 1: Is there an ASP.net alternative to the <input type="file" runat="server" /> HTML tag? The reason for asking is i would rather use an image button and display the file as an asp label on the portal to keep with a consistent style. Question 2: So i understand that giving the end user the ability to upload files to the server and then turn around to show them the data that they posted poses a security threat. So far i am using the id.PostedFile.ContentType and the file extension to reject the data if its not an accepted format (i.e. "text/plain", "application/pdf", "application/vnd.ms-excel", or "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet"). Also the location where the files are uploaded to has a sufficient amount of virus and malware protection and this is not a concern. What, from the C# point of view, additional steps should i take to ensure that the end user cant take advantage and compromise the system in regards to allowing them to upload files?

• iPad: Move UIView with animation, then move it back

  I have the following code in a UIView subclass that will move it off the screen with an animation: float currentX = xposition; //variables that store where the UIView is located float currentY = yposition; float targetX = -5.0f - self.width; float targetY = -5.0f - self.height; moveX = targetX - currentX; //stored as an instance variable so I can hang on to it and move it back moveY = targetY - currentY; [UIView beginAnimations:@"UIBase Hide" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; self.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(moveX,moveY); [UIView commitAnimations]; It works just great. I've changed targetX/Y to 0 to see if it does indeed move to the specified point, and it does. The problem is when I try and move the view back to where it was originally: moveX = -moveX; moveY = -moveY; [UIView beginAnimations:@"UIBase Show" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:duration]; self.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(moveX,moveY); [UIView commitAnimations]; This puts the UIView about 3x as far as it should. So the view usually gets put off the right side of the screen (depending on where it is). Is there something with the CGAffineTransforMakeTranslation function that I should know? I read the documentation, and from what I can tell, it should be doing what I'm expecting it to do. Anyone have a suggestion of how to fix this? Thanks.

• Client-Server Networking Between PHP Client and Java Server

  Hi there, I have a university project which is already 99% completed. It consists of two parts-website (PHP) and desktop (Java). People have their accounts on the website and they wish to query different information regarding their accounts. They send an SMS which is received by desktop application which queries database of website (MySQL) and sends the reply accordingly. This part is working superbly. The problem is that some times website wishes to instruct the desktop application to send a specific SMS to a particular number. Apparently there seems no way other than putting all the load to the DB server... This is how I made it work. Website puts SMS jobs in a specific table. Java application polls this table again and again and if it finds a job, it executes it. Even this part is working correctly but unfortunately it is not acceptable by my university to poll the DB like this. :( The other approach I could think of is to use client-server one. I tried making Java server and its PHP client. So that whenever an SMS is to be sent, the website opens a socket connection to desktop application and sends two strings (cell # and SMS message). Unfortunately I am unable to do this. I was successfully to make a Java server which works fine when connected by a Java client, similarly my PHP client connects correctly to a PHP server, but when I try to cross them, they start hating each other... PHP shows no error but Java gives StreamCorruptedException when it tries to read header of input stream. Could someone please tell what I can try to make PHP client and Java server work together? Or if the said purpose can be achieved by another means, how? Regards, Yasir

But there is a problem in application while running sometimes it throws system out of memory exception. I am very frustrating with this. Also I am unable to simulate the issue. • Program and debugger quit without indication of problem

  OK, not quite a Heisenbug but similar in nature. I'm developing a WPF application. When debugging, the logic reaches a certain point, then the application quits for no reason. VS debugger catches nothing and the only indication of a problem is the following in the output window: The program '[6228] SomeApp.vshost.exe: Managed (v4.0.30319)' has exited with code 1073741855 (0x4000001f). When debugging the release version, or indeed running the debug build out of the debugger (in fact all combos that aren't running the debug version in debugger), everything works fine. I'm trying to catch unhandled exceptions with the following code: AppDomain .CurrentDomain .UnhandledException += (sender, e) => { Debug.WriteLine("Unhandled Exception " + e.ExceptionObject); }; Application .Current .DispatcherUnhandledException += (sender1, e1) => { Debug.WriteLine("DispatcherUnhandledException " + e1.Exception); }; ...but I'm not catching anything. I'm considering peppering the app with debug output statements, but it's highly asynchronous so reading this will be both arduous and tedious. So tell me, if you can... how do I start figuring WTF is going on?

• Click in a ListView item changes status of elements inside the item?

  Hi, I don't know exactly how to explain this problem, but I'll try. I have a ListView with several items. Each item has inside a TextView and two ImageView. I want the ImageView change when I click on them, and I want to open a context menu when I press for a long time into the ListView item. For the ImageView, everything works properly. For the whole item, I can show the context menu after a long press, but my problem is that the ImageView changes as well when I am pressing the TextView, for example. • WF 4.0 can't get to resume workflow on the staging/production environment

  I have developed various registeration workflows using WF4.0. Each work flow has various bookmarks. I am using the registeration wf for an asp.net application. I tested the asp.net application locally and it is working fine( Starting WF, Persisting to db and resuming bookmarks). When I try to test it on the staging server, everything goes messy. • PInvoke Unbalances the stack

  Good afternoon, I have been working on a dll that can use CORBA to communicate to an application that is network aware. The code works fine if I run it as a C++ console application. However, I have gotten stuck on exporting the methods as a dll. The methods seems to export fine, and if I call a method with no parameters then it works as expected. I'm hung up on passing a C# string to a C++ method. My C++ method header looks like this: bool __declspec(dllexport) SpiceStart(char* installPath) My C# DLL import code is as follows: [DllImportAttribute("SchemSipc.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] private static extern bool SpiceStart(string installPath); I call the method like so: bool success = SpiceStart(@"c:\sedatools"); The call to SpiceStart throws the exception "PInvokeStackImbalance", which "is likely because the managed PInvoke signature does not match the unmanaged target signature." Does anyone have any suggestions? If I remove the char* and string from the parameters, then the method runs just fine. However, I'd like to be able to pass the installation path of the application to the dll from C#. Thanks in advance, Giawa

• CGContextSetShadow() - shadow direction reversed between iOS 3.0 and 4.0?

  I've been using CGContextSetShadowWithColor() in my Quartz drawing code on the iPhone to generate the "stomped in" look for text and other things (in drawRect: and drawLayer:inContext:). Worked perfectly, but when running the exact same code against iOS 3.2 and now iOS 4.0 I noticed that the shadows are all in the opposite direction. E.g. in the following code I set a black shadow to be 1 pixel above the text, which gave it a "pressed in" look, and now this shadow is 1px below the text, giving it a standard shadow. ... CGContextSetShadowWithColor(context, CGSizeMake(0.f, 1.f), 0.5f, shadowColor); CGContextShowGlyphsAtPoint(context, origin.x, origin.y, glyphs, length); ... Now I don't know whether I am (or have been) doing something wrong or whether there has been a change to the handling of this setting. I haven't applied any transformation that would explain this to me, at least not knowingly. I've flipped the text matrix in one instance, but not in others and this behavior is consistent. Plus I wasn't able to find anything about this in the SDK Release Notes, so it looks like it's probably me. What might be the issue?

• WPF ToolTip Style with dynamic LayoutTransform

  I have an app that scales it's UI and I want to scale the ToolTips with it. I have tried doing this: <Style TargetType="{x:Type ToolTip}"> <Setter Property="LayoutTransform" Value="{DynamicResource scaleTransf}"/> ... </Style> ...where scaleTransf is a resource that I change via code: Application.Current.Resources["scaleTransf"] = new ScaleTransform(...); Most of the ToolTips do get scaled in size but some of them that are created by C# code don't get scaled. I've checked and it seems that I don't set their Style or LayoutTransform by code, so I don't really understand what is going wrong... Moreover, I have the impression that the above XAML code worked fine a few days ago. :( Is there sth I can do to make it work all the time without setting the LayoutTransform in code-behind? EDIT : The ToolTips that don't change scale are the ones that have become visible before.   I have Bitnami Rails stack installed on my Mac. To better explain my problem i created a simple scaffold based rails app with mysql as the backend. I can get to perform simple POST and GET requests for a while and after a few requests the app just hangs indefinitely. No exception caught or anything worthwhile in the development log to report this strange behavior. • Jmock mock DAO object

  Hi all, I wrote a method that retrieves certain list of strings, given a correct string key. Now when I create a list(the one to be retrieved by method descibed in previous sentence) and create test I can easily get results and test passes successfully. Now on the other hand if I save the content of this list to database in 2 columns, key and value I wrote a class which retrieves this items with method inside it. And when I print it out to console the expected results are correct, now I initialize my DAO from application context where inside its bean it gets session and because of DAO works. Now I'm trying to write a test which will mock the DAO, because I'm running test localy not on the server .. so I told jmock to mock it : private MyDAO myDAO; in the setup() myDAO = context.mock(MyDAO.class); I think I'm mocking it correctly or not, how can I mock this data from database? what is the best way? Is there somewhere good Jmock documentation? on their official site its not very good and clear, you have to know what you seek in order to find it, can't discover something cool in the mean time.

• Structuring projects & dependencies of large winforms applications in C#

  UPDATE: This is one of my most-visited questions, and yet I still haven't really found a satisfactory solution for my project. One idea I read in an answer to another question is to create a tool which can build solutions 'on the fly' for projects that you pick from a list. I have yet to try that though. How do you structure a very large application? Multiple smallish projects/assemblies in one big solution? A few big projects? One solution per project? And how do you manage dependencies in the case where you don't have one solution. Note: I'm looking for advice based on experience, not answers you found on Google (I can do that myself). I'm currently working on an application which has upward of 80 dlls, each in its own solution. Managing the dependencies is almost a full time job. There is a custom in-house 'source control' with added functionality for copying dependency dlls all over the place. Seems like a sub-optimum solution to me, but is there a better way? Working on a solution with 80 projects would be pretty rough in practice, I fear. (Context: winforms, not web) EDIT: (If you think this is a different question, leave me a comment) It seems to me that there are interdependencies between: Project/Solution structure for an application Folder/File structure Branch structure for source control (if you use branching) But I have great difficulty separating these out to consider them individually, if that is even possible.   Hi, I'm trying to get started with JAVA/Eclipse/Spring MVC but can't seem to find a "dummies" or "step-by-step" guide for setting everything up and creating the simplest proof-of-concept application. I found http://static.springsource.org/docs/...-step-by-step/ but there seem to be differences between Spring 2.5 and Spring 3 so i'm looking for something for Spring 3. Also, the tutorial for Spring 2.5 focuses on building the application usign Ant - This i will certainly be doing for releasing but when working within Eclipse i want to have set up the project so that i can use breakpoints/debugging and this is not covered at all. I've downloaded Eclipse, Tomcat and the Spring 3 Framework but that's about it and within the downloaded Spring Framework documentation it states: 2.3 New getting started tutorial There is now a new getting started tutorial for developing a basic Spring 3.0 MVC web application. This tutorial is a separate document that can be found at the Spring Documentation page However, i can't seem to find such a tutorial on the linked page. My main problem at the moment, as seems to be the case for many people trying to get started with Spring, is that i can't seem to get everything set up. I've got a copy of Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow and i've also found this tutorial but i don't know if the setups they describe are still relevant and whether they will allow debugging. • Creating Array of settings names and values using ADO.NET Entities

  I'm using an ADO.NET Entities (.edmx) data-model along with MVC2 to build an application. I have a DB table where I want to store settings for method that run elsewhere. MVC2 allows me to create a view, editor, etc. to update this table which is great, but now when I want to do simple assignments based on column titles I'm a bit confused. For example, I would like to easily build an array that I could offset into the record's value based on it's "Title" Column: var entities = new ManagerEntities(); Setting[] settings = entities.settings.ToArray(); This returns something like: Settings[0].[SettingTitle][SettingValue] However, I would like to more easily index into the value than having to loop through all the returned settings, when they're already index. string URL_ID_NEED = [NeededUrl][http://www.url.com] Am I missing something relatively simple?
