• If I run two monitors from two different graphic cards, can I still have Twinview?

  I am planning to get a second 2560x1440 monitor for home. The trouble is, I only have 1xDVI, 1xVGA on my graphics card (a 250 GT). I don't want to buy a new graphics card until the prices for the 500 series have stabilized, so probably not before summer (or will it happen earlier? I don't remember how it was for other series, and I couldn't find long-term price history for video cards). The solution I had in mind is to get the 7600 GS from my old PC, which also has 1xDVI, 1xVGA, and run each monitor on a separate card. I have never done that, and I was wondering 1. If I will be able to run the monitors in Twinview then, or will I be stuck with separate X sessions, and 2. Whether there are some other disadvantages as compared to a single-head graphics card. (I am using the proprietary driver because I need compiz). As an aside, how do I find out whether the DVI port on the old graphics card is dual link?

• Upgraded to a GTX 580 - no video signal on boot

  I have: New Corsair 550w PSU (should be more than enough) AsRock H61M u3s3 mobo (with latest updated BIOS) Just replaced my faithful HD 7790 GPU with a refurbished EVGA GTX 580 1.5GB. When I boot, it sounds like the PC boots to windows, and the 580's fan is spinning, but I can't get any video signal from the card. Old card and integrated graphics still work fine (when I replace and use those instead). I am using the DVI ports on the card with a DVI-VGA adapter until I can get my hands on a mini HDMI adapter tomorrow. Anyone ever heard of a GPU needed something special to make the VGA signal work? Hold down a key on startup or something? I can't even find a manual for this card.

• Windows 7/8 can't connect to an N Router

  I have a router running OpenWRT backfire, with N and A/B/G being broadcast. A linux laptop, and a Mac laptop can see the N network and connect to it (or at least they could last weekend). But there is now a Windows 7 Desktop with a B/G/N wireless card, and a Windows 8 Laptop with a B/G/N wireless card that can't see the N network only the B/G broadcast. The B/G and N have different SSID's and Encryption ( WEP and WPA2 PSK respectively ). The N SSID isn't even visible. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to troubleshoot further? • Network configuration with limited hardware

  I have cable internet and I have two PC. One of them has wireless and ethernet, the other pc has ethernet only. Also, I have a dsl modem that has wireless builtin (some common speedstream model). My goal is to connect all of them so that both have internet access. As I understand, I have two options: connect speedstream to the cable and then connect other PC's to speedstream; OR, connect pc with wireless to the cable and then connect the other pc that has ethernet only using ethernet+wireless through speestream. First one seems to be easy, but it doesn't seem to work. What about the other choice? Is it possible to do it?

There is a wireless network where this computer is, but no wireless adapter in the computer. The one running Debian sid has a decent graphics card, the Windows 7 machine has no graphics card and a weak processor. The two are connected over a fast local network. Are there any OpenGL implementations, where Windows 7 would use the Debian machine's graphics card to do OpenGL rendering "over the network"?

  My desktop crashed so I am migrated over to a laptop. I have wireless in my home so i am trying to be able to use to laptop in any room without any other connections (wireless printer, wireless mouse, etc) The one issue i have is that my desktop had 2 external hard drives (USB) connected to them and i am trying to figure out the best way to treat these as external drives without having to plug them into the laptop directly.   Are there any mobile-friendly Credit Card billing solutions for mobile sites similar to Bango? The advantages of Bango I have seen compared to regular Credit Card solutions that make it considerably "mobile-friendly" are: 1) It does not require the user to enter their full name and billing address to make a payment. The user is only required to enter their Credit Card number, expiration date, and CVC code (if they are in the U.S., they will also have to enter their Zip Code). That is significantly less input than is normally required for Credit Card payments, which is a big plus on small mobile key pads. After a user makes an initial Credit Card payment, their details are stored by Bango, and the next time the user needs to make a payment with the same Credit Card, they just have to click a single link and it processes the payment on their stored Credit Card. Needless to say, this is very convenient for mobile users as it is analogous to Direct Carrier Billing as far as the user is concerned since they won't need to input any details. The downside with Bango is that their fees are higher than others, all payments must be processed via their site and branding, there is a high minimum ($1.99) and a low maximum ($30) on how much you can charge users, and you need to pay a monthly fee on top of the high transaction costs. It is due to the downsides mentioned above that I am looking for an alternative solution that also does the advantages 1) and 2) above. Is there anything like that? I looked at JunglePay and they do neither 1) nor 2).

• Meraki wireless access point disconnects clients

  We have a Meraki MR16 Cloud Managed AP and it disconnects certain clients. The clients with Intel wireless cards work without any disconnects. The Meraki reports the follow in its event log: Sep 4 09:55:47 WPA authentication Sep 4 09:55:47 802.11 association channel: 11, rssi: 64 Sep 4 09:55:38 802.11 disassociation client has left AP Sep 4 09:55:38 WPA deauthentication vap: 0, radio: 0, aid: 1633956416 An example wireless network card which the Meraki disconnects is Realtek RTL8191SE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. The realtek laptop is sat 2 meters away from the AP and has a lot of signal and the Meraki reports minimal interference. Any ideas why it disconnects non-intel wireless network cards?

• How to bridge multiple wireless access points (and internet entry points) into one network

  I have two DSL lines coming in to wireless access points and then running to a RV082 Gateway/Bridge. The gateway then runs to a switch, which runs to multiple PCs and a Printer (See picture below). Normally, I would set up the wireless access points behind the gateway, but they are also the modems for the dsl. I have found that I can not print to the network printer if I am connected to the wireless network, but only if I am connected to the wired network. How can I configure the Gateway and APs (Routers) so that the PCs and Printer are all on the same internal network? I have tried turning DHCP off or redirect on the APs and redirect them to the Gateway. However, neither of these worked. Furthermore, I tried pinging the Gateway from the AP but got no response.

• Refresh devices - reconnect CF card drive by script (unplug-plug equivalent)

  Hello I plug a completely clean CF-card into my USB card-writer. Then I dd a mbr block of 512 bytes size to the device, which contains the partition table and the definition of one partition. Problem: While "fdisk -l /dev/sdx" correctly displays the partition, it happens that there is no device like "/dev/sdx1" after these operations (as it was not present before). Unplugging and plugging the card-writer solves the problem and makes the device(s) appear. Since I use this procedure in a script, manually unplugging and re-plugging is no option whatsoever. Is there a way to "refresh" the devices or to "unplug and re-plug" the drive by script such that /dev/sdx1 appears? Thanks for any help, Chris

• Buying Video Card for 1600x900 monitor?

  I just bought a monitor for a relative's computer (Intel 82915G chipset) which should produce 1600x900. Though the current card can produce 1600x1200, there's no way (that I know of) to force it to produce 1600x900. Assuming buying a card would be a solution, how would one find a cheap video card that can do 1600x900? They don't seem to list the modes in most ads. If I'm missing something in Windows, please let me know, but I've looked around quite a bit and tried many things (including unsupported resolutions, etc).

Basically I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, in fact i'd rather to spend as little as possible and get low end or mid range card, I'm not really playing games all that much so pretty much anything will do, I'd prefer 2xx series though. Current Mac Pro sells w/ GT120, Apple sells upgrade kit for $149 (which is okay, I just not sure if I'll be able to use this card on such an old Mac Pro)

• Recommendation for PCI SATA addon card?

  I have a couple of dead PCs from my wife's office that have working SATA HDDs. Sorry, I don't know if they're SATA I or II, just that they're SATA. Unfortunately, all my spare hardware at home is pretty old; all I have is IDE support. I was thinking I could get a PCI addon card on the cheap that would support SATA and put together a budget server of sorts to play with and be able to use those drives. So I've got a couple questions: After some searching it looks like I can get an addon card for ~20 bucks, but it looks like they're all SATA I? Would that matter? It looks like going to SATAII bumps the price up to $40-$60 or so. Are there any recommendations on a card to get?

• How to go about scheduling a task in windows 7 to change wireless connection

  This may or not be something that can be done. I cannot find anything on the wireless connection manager built into windows 7 let alone methods for passing params into it. Problem is as follows: I have 2 wireless routers. One provides internet access, the other provides sole access to the local network. Every day at 4am the main system creates a backup in 2 locations. One is a External usb drive, the other is a location on the network. This is all cool if it is remembered to change over to the local network router before leaving. But if it is forgotten the roof will collapse, the walls will burn, and I will be... well you get the idea. Solution: there is already a custom event that fires a automated backup program at 4am everyday. I need someway to force the wireless network to use the correct connection at say 3:58am everyday. Any ideas????

  We're looking at replacing our campus-wide magnetic swipe card system with something more robust. The "programmer" side of me says there's got to be an open-source, scalable solution that already does this, but all I've been able to find are proprietary vendor-specific solutions. Ideally, it'd have the following: Based on some open standard that allows us to select from a wide selection of card readers (like IMAP or HTTP) Support different kinds of card access (magnetic strip, RFIDs, etc.) Future-proof (to the extent possible) The lack of information I'm finding leads me to believe I'm not searching for the right things... or such a solution doesn't exist. Is there not some basic, open-source solution to this (like MySQL for databases, or Moodle for an LMS, or Apache for a web server)?

  I ran into some problems with my ATI Radeon x1200. I want it to support vertex shader 3.0, but it only does 2.0. This is because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 only works with 3.0. So, I want a new video card. Can someone help me, with a more clean look to it? I bet if I would stick to some seller, I would end up with a video card that does not support what I want, or is too expansive. I really do not want it to be above $75, if possible.   My company of about 60 people currently uses a Magicard Pronto ID Card printer and the Magicard ID card software. The printer is would be OK (not great) if they released 64 bit drivers for it, but Magicard ID is without a doubt one of the worst pieces of software I have ever used, ever. It would be OK for occasional hiring, but my company is looking to add a lot of people rather quickly. Does anybody know of decent ID-card printing software, and possibly a replacement printer? I might just "accidentally" run over this one with my truck a few times.

• Ubuntu problem not connecting to wireless or wired network

  I recently installed openvpn and things were working. But I got a weird screen after a few hours and on restart my wired and wireless connections are not working. I tried both wired and wireless and both are not working. Usually if I ever have a problem with wireless, the wired always work! My /etc/network/interfaces is looking wrong. • Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file

  Is there a way to enable/disable a wireless network interface via the command line (so I can put it in a bat file)? When I'm in the office I use a wired connection, but Windows still occasionally bugs me about my wireless connection not being connected (even though I turned off the option for notifying me when there's no connectivity). I'm guessing the only way to stop it from bugging me is to disable the interface, but I'd rather not have to go into the network settings every time I need to do so. I'd like to set up a bat file or a shortcut that I can use to enable/disable the wireless (preferably a single one that toggles the current state), and then just set up a keyboard shortcut for that. I just have no idea how to do so from the command line.

• Using a CF card as an IDE HDD

  I have an old Sony laptop (Vaio TR1-MP) that I like. The HDD has died and since it's a hard-to-find 1.8" IDE hard drive I'm considering buying one of those little CF card adaptors and a 16gb CF card. The total cost of that is about £30 and replacement HDDs for this model are far pricier. Has anyone replaced their HDD with a CF card in this way, and, crucially, is the performance utterly horrible afterwards? ;-) I've seen a couple of threads which hint it's possible but the advice eventually given was just to buy a SSD, but I'm not even sure if its possible to get a 1.8" SSD with an IDE connector that'll fit my laptop. (I freely admit that the most sensible thing to do would be to bin it and just buy a cheap netbook which would be smaller, faster and lighter than the sony, but it does have a very nice widescreen display and dammit I just like it !) • Cannot install wireless lan service on windows 2012 RTM offline

  I'm having trouble installing the wireless lan service offline with a fresh installed windows 2012 server RTM. I tried "install-windowsfeature wireless-networking" in the non-gui mode and using the server manager in the gui mode to enable the wireless lan service, but both of them show a "failure configuring windows updates" message after the installation restarted the system. I checked the event log and I think messages about "The WLAN Autoconfig service depends on the following service: nativewifip. This service might not be installed" are the source of the issue. Google shows it is a service called "native wifi filter", but I cannot find anywhere to install that service. I don't have a Ethernet adapter for that computer, so have to install everything offline before the wifi's working.

• When RDP as a Domain User, Smart Card Requested

  My W8 machine is connected to domain zen. If I rdp to the W8 machine, I can log in as a local user without problems. If I try to log in as a domain user, I am prompted for a smart card instead of a password. Any ideas why? Note that Interactive login: require smart card is disabled in group policy: And here is the output from rsop.msc: Some additional information on this one. If my connecting machine is on the same domain/network as the W8 machine, then I am prompted for a password as usual. If the machine is remote, on a different domain, then I am prompted for a smart card. In addition, the machine I am connecting from that gets the smartcard prompt is an XP box. I haven't isolated exactly which of these factors triggers the different response.
