• How can one convert a Word form to a PDF form while preserving fields?

  I have a Word source document which I'm using to create a PDF form. The first go-round, everything is fine because I can let Acrobat Pro auto-create all the fields. That feature is actually pretty awesome. However, after spending a bunch of time adjusting field sizes and alignments and formats and so on, I want to edit the source document, and now I'm faced with the prospect of doing all that over again. Isn't there some way to add the fields in the source document using the Developer ribbon and have those fields be preserved in the conversion to PDF? If not, what other ways are there to avoid this kind of redundant effort?

• How do I make a Windows virtual machine replicate to another datacenter/cloud?

  We have a Windows 2008 VM running IIS and SQL Server Express (it's an all-in-one web application). We need to have another copy at our secondary datacenter site. What is the best way to do this? It doesn't have to be running all the time but it has to have almost the latest copy of the current VM. I took a look at VMWare Fault Tolerance and after the heart attack at the price I starting looking for another solution. If need be I wouldn't mind copying it over to a cloud VM provider, if I can find one that lets me copy my own VMs up and start them up without any conversion process.

• Upgrading from MySQL Server to MariaDB

  I've heard that MariaDB has better performance than MySQL-Server. I'm running software that makes an intensive use of MySQL, thats why I want to try upgrading to MariaDB. Please tell me your experiences doing this conversion, and instructions or tips. Also, which files I should take care of for making a backup of MySQL-Server, so if something goes wrong with MariaDB, I could rollback to MySQL without issues? • Converting NTFS to ZFS (or other)

  Are there any benefits of converting HDDs that are running NTFS on a Linux machine to ZFS? Is there a way to do such conversion in Linux without losing the data? What about the stability of ZFS on Linux, does FUSE really work well in this case? People say that the only way to get the real full ZFS support is to install Solaris. I understand that the best choice for Linux would be ext4, but I really havent found a way how to convert to ext4 from NTFS without sacrificing all the data. On the other hand I have doubts whether changing from NTFS to ZFS while using Linux is really wise. Thanks for any tips.

Context: __ Playing around with RFID reader in serial, using python to output to console through uinput/ The thing is, doing the conversion from fake-rfid-keyboard-codes to code sent to uinput/, I would better know if I am using a QWERTY or an AZERTY ('a' becoming 'q', etc...) Back here in Belgium, especially during the event I am working on we are highly susceptible to have both keyboard layouts, I have to support both 'on-the-fly' __ Thanx !

• IDE Motherboard to Boot from a SATA 1T Hdd

  I want to use my SATA HDD in my very old ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard (made in 2003). I intended to buy a cheap adapter for this. Say something similar to this one: http://www.cooldrives.com/satoidecofor.html But would there be any issue if I want to boot from this SATA drive? My impression is that these kind of adapters convert SATA signal and commands to PATA directly and such a low level conversion should be transparent to the motherboard and BIOS - in case the BIOS doesn't support SATA. And, for my motherboard, it sure doesn't. Does anyone ever used such a kind of adapter to support a boot drive? Any success sorry?

• Extract first page from multiple pdfs

  Have got about 500 PDFs to go through and extract the first page of. They then need to go through some time consuming conversion process so was hoping to try and save some time by have a batch process to extract just the first page from the 500 pdfs and place it in a new pdf. Have had a poke around Acrobat but can find no real method of doing this for multiple files. Does anyone know any other programs or methods that this could be achieved? Free and open source are obviously more favourable :) EDIT: Have actually had some success using GhostScript to extract just one page. Am now looking at how to batch that and take the list of files and use those.

• Batch Convert .mkv to .mp4 with VLC

  i want to batch convert all .mkv file in a folder into .mp4 with vlc. it should use the original video-/audio-stream and if possible the .ass subtitle of the .mkv. so its not really a convert, its more changing the container. (my player cant read the mkv) if i do this conversion by hand (manually) it works, but i have a lot of mkv to convert, so it would take a lot of time. i have searched the internet for a batch file to do this and i found a few and tried to modify them to my wish, but all attempts i tried just created a .mp4 file that doesn't contain the audio-stream and the video-stream also cannot be rendered by all my mediaplayers on the pc. so i would be very thankful, if you could tell me how the batch have to look like, so it works with original video-/audio-stream (maybe .ass subtitle)

  Possible Duplicate: How do I convert SWF into a PDF? I have a number of graphics and text only SWF and FLA files that I'd like to convert to PDF preserving the text and formatting. Printing to PDF from Flash Player seems to flatten everything into an image without preserving the text. I've got a large number of those files, so it would be quite nice to have a automatable/console utility to do the job. Appreciate any help or pointers. Thanks! EDIT: It seems like most SWF files were created with pdf2swf, so I'm hoping there is a similar tool for doing a reverse conversion.

• How do I create email addresses for all my users using my domain ([email protected])?

  My client wants to create email addresses for all their dotnetnuke users using their domain. The point is to keep the user's email addresses 'private' while still allowing communication through a public email address that they can control. It's not necessary to have a full webmail interface (although that would be nice). I'm thinking it would be enough just to forward any mail on and just act as a gateway. So if an email was sent to [email protected], it would be forwarded on to the email address associated with the dotnetnuke account with username 'rwain'. Is this possible to do in a shared hosting environment? Or do I need to create some custom mail server that does a conversion of the email address and forwards it?

  I have a monitor that I want to use as my 'TV' for my gaming system. I connect it via HDMI, so sound and video go through the monitor, but I want sound to my headphones, which travels via optical (S/PDIF) cable. The monitor (Dell U2713HM) has a 3.5mm audio jack on it for line out, but I couldn't find anything that simply plugs in an converts the analog audio signal to a digital one so I can plug in a S/PDIF cable. What sort of device do I need to do this? (I am not asking for shopping recommendations, merely what options allow this conversion. I would prefer the smallest option, as space is limited).

We have always relied on a vendor for split-path testing (aka "AB Testing"). If you're not familiar with that term, it's a form of marketing research in which you slightly modify one of your web pages (usually one nearest the point of conversion), say for instance, by changing the position of the "Buy Now" button or its color/contrast/texture, then serving one of those two pages to a given user based on random selection.   Hi I have an project in FCE which was recorded in MPEG-4 video in 1280 x 960 (1,4MB/s) and whenever I import those mov files to FCE thez show just fine. but when i add the clips to the timeline (sequence) the quality is cropped - instead of HD i can onlz export the timeline with quicktime conversion and a resolution of 720 x 480. can anybody help me out and tell me how i can export the timeline in full HD quality (as the raw material itself is)? tried the quick setup and exporting as divx and AIC which doesnt reallz work. the actual video size is HD, but qualitz of the video is like SD...

  I have some videos from a few years ago,with various formats, such as avi, mpg, wmv, rm, rmvb, .... Their sizes are huge(more than 500 MB, and sometimes 1GB). Given there may likely be some advance in data compression, I would like to know which file formats and compression methods are recommended these days, by the standard that without losing obvious data, while achieving big size reduction. How can I perform the file format conversion and data compression in Ubuntu 12.04? Command line and batch ways would be the most convenient, although GUI ways are also appreciated. • Notepad++'s pesky EOL Format switching -- how to remove the invisible (default?) keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+M, Ctrl+J

  Notepad++ lets the user specify whether the end of lines (EOL) format for a file should be entirely in Windows, Unix, or Mac formats. Notepad++ also remember the last one encountered in a file and uses that EOL format when a new file is created. But Notepad++ seems to have some pesky default keyboard shortcuts built-in that can create MIXED format files, creating havoc with this otherwise quite reasonable situation. Specifically: - Ctrl+M puts a Mac style EOL, i.e. (0x0D only), - Ctrl+J puts a UNIX style EOL, i.e. (0x0A only), The hazard is that rapid typing and using the keyboard heavily with other shortcut commands could inadvertantly mean typing oone of these above, each time turning at least one line in the file into another EOL format. So my Question: How can I turn OFF these apparently built-in keyboard shortcuts. Please Note: I've already scanned through Settings > Shortcut Mapper and could not find Ctrl+M or Ctrl+J listed for EOL conversion. Thanks,

• Outlook can not recognize PDF v1.7 attachments - those become corrupted after receiving on linux client

  MS Outlook cannot recognize PDF format 1.7 when sending it as an attachment. Therefore it's sent as: Content-Type: application/pdf; Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable When receiving such an e-mail under Linux (Thunderbird), the PDF content is being parsed as a plain text and converted. This results in a corrupted file loosing all the bytes 0x0a (LF) which are being removed by the EOL conversion. It's definitely a problem of Outlook which is IMO hard to fix and deploy. Is there a way to fix that on Thunderbird's site?

• Recover a Parallel Desktop 3 virtual machine in VirtualBox

  I have an old HDD image file that was used with Parallels Desktop 3. Ideally I'd like to use it in VirtualBox (conversion). In all the tutorials I found (like this one or that one) the VM must be started: there's the problem. I don't have the machine where Parallel 3 was installed anymore. I tried installing the trial version of the last version of Parallels (9) but it seem it doesn't offer the possibility to import an old VM. So here's the question: Given I can't boot the VM with Parallels Desktop, is there a way to convert the image file to another format that is bootable in VirtualBox? If it changes anything, the host is MacOS X 10.9, the guest is Windows XP.

• How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. SELECT FloatTable.DateAndTime, TagTable.TagName FROM master.dbo.FloatTable FloatTable, master.dbo.TagTable TagTable WHERE FloatTable.TagIndex = TagTable.TagIndex AND ((FloatTable.DateAndTime={ts '2012-06-01 00:00:00'})) Any assistance would be much appreciated. But at the same time their site says that Protune is for video only: To record Protune footage, you’ll need to turn Protune ON in your camera’s settings menu. What for is Protune? Photo? Video? Or both?

Can I just alter the myISAM tables to InnoDB without shutting down MySQL? What are the recommend procedures here? How long will such a conversion take?   I believe that the .NET Framework will optimize certain binaries targeting features specific to the machine it's installed on. After changing the CPU from an Intel Nehalem to a Haswell chip, should the optimization be run again manually? If so, what is the process for that? Between generations here are some notable additions: Westmere: AES instruction set Sandy Bridge: Advanced Vector Extensions Ivy Bridge: RdRand (hardware random number generator), F16C (16-bit Floating-point conversion instructions) Haswell: Haswell New Instructions (includes Advanced Vector Extensions 2 (AVX2), gather, BMI1, BMI2, ABM and FMA3 support) So my, albeit naive, thought process was that the optimizations could take advantage of these in general cases. For example, perhaps calls to the Random library could utilize the hardware-RNG on Ivy Bridge and later models.

• How to display downloaded youtube annotations ( not captions) on offline video player?

  i need to display the annotations for some of my downloaded youtube videos. It's also important to make them closeable. Making them clickable would also be nice. What i found out so far: From what i understand there there is a vlc plugin/extension that could also render the annotations but i'm having a hard time finding it. Mplayer might also be an option but i'd have to convert the xml files to .bmp and then use a bmov filter to play them. Any suggestions welcome. Edit: to further clarify i would like to display/overlay annotations from a youtube xml file (i'm willing to go through a conversion step if i have to) pretty much the same way i can display subtitles from a srt or sub file. Edit2: I'm open to using other players too ( if vlc is not a feasible option for what i want)

• Is it safe to Update and/or Insert records into an accounting software's database? (Pastel Evolution)

  Our CRM system can post transactions to our accounts software (Pastel Evolution), but it doesn't perform the required currency conversion. Both systems have different "base" currencies (because of our location), so the figure thats sent to Pastel evolution is right, but it is reflected in the wrong currency. The CRM uses an ODBC connection to post figures to Evolution. I can make a tool which sits between the two systems which can update and/or insert the transactions into Pastel, by mimicking what the CRM would have done if it was doing the POST. Is it safe for me to mimic and/or update these transactions directly in the Pastel database? Is it common for important validation to be performed in the ODBC layer, and if so, can I tap into an applications ODBC, or is there a custom driver built by the CRM to communicate with the DB?

• Converted VmWare Image does not boot in Virtual Box

  I have a .vddx virtual image which boots in VmWare, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with Sun Virtual Box. In Sun Virtual Box, I created a new Virtual Machine and pointed it at the vddx file from VmWare. When I try to boot the virtual machine, Sun Virtual Box says that the volume is not bootable. VmWare is able to boot from this virtual machine. Does anyone have any suggestions about what might be causing the problem? Is there a conversion utility that I need to run? Any debugging options that I could turn on?
