  • How to best show progress info when using ADO.NET?

    - by Yadyn
I want to show the user detailed progress information when performing potentially lengthy database operations. Specifically, when inserting/updating data that may be on the order of hundreds of KB or MB. Currently, I'm using in-memory DataTables and DataRows which are then synced with the database via TableAdapter.Update calls. This works fine and dandy, but the single call leaves little opportunity to glean any kind of progress info to show to the user. I have no idea how much data is passing through the network to the remote DB or its progress. Basically, all I know is when Update returns and it is assumed complete (barring any errors or exceptions). But this means all I can show is 0% and then a pause and then 100%. I can count the number of rows, even going so far to cound how many are actually Modified or Added, and I could even maybe calculate per DataRow its estimated size based on the datatype of each column, using sizeof for value types like int and checking length for things like strings or byte arrays. With that, I could probably determine, before updating, an estimated total transfer size, but I'm still stuck without any progress info once Update is called on the TableAdapter. Am I stuck just using an indeterminate progress bar or mouse waiting cursor? Would I need to radically change our data access layer to be able to hook into this kind of information? Even if I can't get it down to the precise KB transferred (like a web browser file download progress bar), could I at least know when each DataRow/DataTable finishes or something? How do you best show this kind of progress info using ADO.NET?

  • making java SingleFrameApplication to appear second

    - by Karel Bílek
Sorry if this question will sound too chaotic, feel free to edit it. I have an application made entirely in netbeans, which uses SingleFrameApplication and auto-generated the GUI code, named "MyApp", and FrameView, named "MyView". Now, the MyApp somehow has the main() function, but the MyView has all the graphic elements.. I don't entirely understand how that happens, so used it as black box (it somehow created the window, I didn't have to care why). But now, I need the window to be only a window, opened by another JFrame. I don't know, how to accomplish that. MyApp, which is extending SingleFrameApplication, have these methods: public class MyApp extends SingleFrameApplication { @Override protected void startup() { show(new MyView(this)); } @Override protected void configureWindow(java.awt.Window root) { } public static MyApp getApplication() { return Application.getInstance(MyApp.class); } public static void main(String[] args) { launch(MyApp.class, args); } } MyView has these methods: public class MyView extends FrameView { public MyView(SingleFrameApplication app) { super(app); initComponents(); } private void initComponents() { //all the GUI stuff is somehow defined here } } Now, I have no clue how the two classes work, I just want this window, defined in MyView, to appear after another window, "ordinary" JFrame. How can I call this MyApp/MyView?

  • IUsable: controlling resources in a better way than IDisposable

    - by Ilya Ryzhenkov
I wish we have "Usable" pattern in C#, when code block of using construct would be passed to a function as delegate: class Usable : IUsable { public void Use(Action action) // implements IUsable { // acquire resources action(); // release resources } } and in user code: using (new Usable()) { // this code block is converted to delegate and passed to Use method above } Pros: Controlled execution, exceptions The fact of using "Usable" is visible in call stack Cons: Cost of delegate Do you think it is feasible and useful, and if it doesn't have any problems from the language point of view? Are there any pitfalls you can see? EDIT: David Schmitt proposed the following using(new Usable(delegate() { // actions here }) {} It can work in the sample scenario like that, but usually you have resource already allocated and want it to look like this: using (Repository.GlobalResource) { // actions here } Where GlobalResource (yes, I know global resources are bad) implements IUsable. You can rewrite is as short as Repository.GlobalResource.Use(() => { // actions here }); But it looks a little bit weird (and more weird if you implement interface explicitly), and this is so often case in various flavours, that I thought it deserve to be new syntactic sugar in a language.

  • asynchronous pages

    - by lockedscope
I have just read the multi-threading and custom threading in asp.net articles. http://www.williablog.net/williablog/post/2008/12/16/Custom-Threading-in-ASPNET.aspx http://www.williablog.net/williablog/post/2008/12/16/Multi-Threading-in-ASPNET.aspx I have couple of questions. What does he mean by returning a thread to the pool? Is that thread completely removed from memory or put in to a state that it does not scheduled to CPU(is it in sleep state or whatever)? If that thread is removed from memory how could it survive after async point? How this mechanism works? Are every objects(pages class, request, response etc.) are copied to somewhere else before they are disposed? (Or, is it just waiting in a sleep state and then its waked when async call ends?) He is saying that; "Having said that, making pages asynchronous is not really about improving performance, it is about improving scalability" then he is saying; "I'm sorry to say that it will do nothing for scalability or performance." So which one is true? or for which case(s) are they true?

  • ASP.NET MVC and NHibernate coupling

    - by Ben
I have just started learning NHibernate. Over the past few months I have been using IoC / DI (structuremap) and the repository pattern and it has made my applications much more loosely coupled and easier to test. When switching my persistence layer to NHibernate I decided to stick with my repositories. Currently I am creating a new session on each method call but of course this means that I can not benefit from lazy loading. Therefore I wish to implement session-per-request but in doing so this will make my web project dependent on NHibernate (perhaps this is not such a bad thing?). I was planning to inject ISession into my repositories and create and dispose sessions on beginrequest/endrequest events (see http://ayende.com/Blog/archive/2009/08/05/do-you-need-a-framework.aspx) Is this a good approach? Presumably I cannot use session-per-request without having a reference to NHibernate in my web project? Having the web project dependent on NHibernate prompts my next (few) questions - why even bother with the repository? Since my web app is calling services that talk to the repositories, why not ditch the repositories and just add my NHibernate persistance code inside the services? And finally, is there really any need to split out into so many projects. Is a web project and an infrastructure project sufficient? I realise that I have veered off a bit from my original question but it seems that everyone seems to have their own opinion on these topics. Some people use the repository pattern with NHibernate, some don't. Some people stick their mapping files with the related classes, others have a separate project for this. Many thanks, Ben

  • Setting database-agnostic default column timestamp using Hibernate

    - by unsquared
I'm working on a java project full of Hibernate (3.3.1) mapping files that have the following sort of declaration for most domain objects. <property name="dateCreated" generated="insert"> <column name="date_created" default="getdate()" /> </property> The problem here is that getdate() is an MSSQL specific function, and when I'm using something like H2 to test subsections of the project, H2 screams that getdate() isn't a recognized function. It's own timestamping function is current_timestamp(). I'd like to be able to keep working with H2 for testing, and wanted to know whether there was a way of telling Hibernate "use this database's own mechanism for retrieving the current timestamp". With H2, I've come up with the following solution. CREATE ALIAS getdate AS $$ java.util.Date now() { return new java.util.Date(); } $$; CALL getdate(); It works, but is obviously H2 specific. I've tried extending H2Dialect and registering the function getdate(), but that doesn't seem to be invoked when Hibernate is creating tables. Is it possible to abstract the idea of a default timestamp away from the specific database engine?

  • Stored insert procedure in plpgsql

    - by crazyphoton
I want to do something like this in PostgreSQL. I tried this: CREATE or replace FUNCTION create_patient(_name text, _email text, _phone text, _password text, _field1 text, _field2 text, _field3 timestamp, _field4 text, OUT _pid integer, OUT _id integer) RETURNS record AS $$ DECLARE _id integer; _type text; _pid integer; BEGIN _type := 'patient'; INSERT into patients (name, email, phone, field1, field2, field3) values (_name, _email, _phone, _field1, _field2, _field3) RETURNING id into _pid; INSERT into users (username, password, type, pid, phone, language) values (_email, _password, _type, _pid, _phone, _field4) RETURNING id into _id; END; $$ LANGUAGE plpgsql; But there are a lot of instances where I would not want to specify some of field1/field2/field3/field4 and want the unspecified fields to use the default value in the table. Currently that is not possible, because to call this function I need to specify all fields. TLDR; Is there a simple way to create a wrapper procedure for INSERT in PL/pgSQL where I can specify which fields I want to insert?

  • SendMessage to window created by AllocateHWND cause deadlock

    - by user2704265
    In my Delphi project, I derive a thread class TMyThread, and follow the advice from forums to use AllocateHWnd to create a window handle. In TMyThread object, I call SendMessage to send message to the window handle. When the messages sent are in small volume, then the application works well. However, when the messages are in large volume, the application will deadlock and lose responses. I think may be the message queue is full as in LogWndProc, there are only codes to process the message, but no codes to remove the messages from the queue, that may cause all the processed messages still exist in the queue and the queue becomes full. Is that correct? The codes are attached below: var hLogWnd: HWND = 0; procedure TForm1.FormCreate(Sender: TObject); begin hLogWnd := AllocateHWnd(LogWndProc); end; procedure TForm1.FormDestroy(Sender: TObject); begin if hLogWnd <> 0 then DeallocateHWnd(hLogWnd); end; procedure TForm1.LogWndProc(var Message: TMessage); var S: PString; begin if Message.Msg = WM_UPDATEDATA then begin S := PString(msg.LParam); try List1.Items.Add(S^); finally Dispose(S); end; end else Message.Result := DefWindowProc(hLogWnd, Message.Msg, Message.WParam, Message.LParam); end; procedure TMyThread.SendLog(I: Integer); var Log: PString; begin New(Log); Log^ := 'Log: current stag is ' + IntToStr(I); SendMessage(hLogWnd, WM_UPDATEDATA, 0, LPARAM(Log)); Dispose(Log); end;

  • Should this even be a has_many :through association?

    - by GoodGets
A Post belongs_to a User, and a User has_many Posts. A Post also belongs_to a Topic, and a Topic has_many Posts. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :posts end class Topic < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :posts end class Post < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :topic end Well, that's pretty simple and very easy to set up, but when I display a Topic, I not only want all of the Posts for that Topic, but also the user_name and the user_photo of the User that made that Post. However, those attributes are stored in the User model and not tied to the Topic. So how would I go about setting that up? Maybe it can already be called since the Post model has two foreign keys, one for the User and one for the Topic? Or, maybe this is some sort of "one-way" has_many through assiociation. Like the Post would be the join model, and a Topic would has_many :users, :through = :posts. But the reverse of this is not true. Like a User does NOT has_many :topics. So would this even need to be has_many :though association? I guess I'm just a little confused on what the controller would look like to call both the Post and the User of that Post for a give Topic. Edit: Seriously, thank you to all that weighed in. I chose tal's answer because I used his code for my controller; however, I could have just as easily chosen either j.'s or tim's instead. Thank you both as well. This was so damn simple to implement, and I think today marks the day that I'm beginning to fall in love with rails.

  • VS 2008 designer and usercontrol.

    - by Ram
Hello, I have created a custom data grid control. I dragged it on windows form and set its properties like column and all & ran the project. It built successfully and I am able to view the grid control on the form. Now if i try to view that form in designer, I am getting following error.. However I can see the code for the grid in the designer file. Any pointer on this would be a great help. I have customized grid for my custom requirements like I have added custom text box n all. I have defined 3 constructors public GridControl() public GridControl(IContainer container) protected GridControl(SerializationInfo info, StreamingContext context)

  • Threading is slow and unpredictable?

    - by Jake
I've created the basis of a ray tracer, here's my testing function for drawing the scene: public void Trace(int start, int jump, Sphere testSphere) { for (int x = start; x < scene.SceneWidth; x += jump) { for (int y = 0; y < scene.SceneHeight; y++) { Ray fired = Ray.FireThroughPixel(scene, x, y); if (testSphere.Intersects(fired)) sceneRenderer.SetPixel(x, y, Color.Red); else sceneRenderer.SetPixel(x, y, Color.Black); } } } SetPixel simply sets a value in a single dimensional array of colours. If I call the function normally by just directly calling it it runs at a constant 55fps. If I do: Thread t1 = new Thread(() => Trace(0, 1, testSphere)); t1.Start(); t1.Join(); It runs at a constant 50fps which is fine and understandable, but when I do: Thread t1 = new Thread(() => Trace(0, 2, testSphere)); Thread t2 = new Thread(() => Trace(1, 2, testSphere)); t1.Start(); t2.Start(); t1.Join(); t2.Join(); It runs all over the place, rapidly moving between 30-40 fps and sometimes going out of that range up to 50 or down to 20, it's not constant at all. Why is it running slower than it would if I ran the whole thing on a single thread? I'm running on a quad core i5 2500k.

  • Java JSTL / EL: nesting

    I really don't know how to name this question, it's great if anyone with 2K+ rep can edit this title to better reflect my question (the fact that I can't name this easily is probably why I can't Google the solution). I've got this, which is working: <c:choose> <c:when test="${sometest}"> Hello, world! </c:when> <c:otherwise> <fmt:message key="${page.title}" /> </c:otherwise> </c:choose> And I want to change it to this: <c:choose> <c:when test="${sometest}"> <c:set var="somevar" scope="page" value="Hello, world!"/> </c:when> <c:otherwise> <c:set var="somevar" scope="page" value="<fmt:message key="${page.title}">" </c:otherwise> </c:choose But of course the following line ain't correct: <c:set var="somevar" scope="page" value="<fmt:message key="${page.title}">" How can I assign to the somevar variable the string resulting from a call?

  • AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges and osascript failing

    - by cygnl7
I'm attempting to execute an uninstaller (written in AppleScript) through AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges. I'm setting up my rights after creating an empty auth ref like so: char *tool = "/usr/bin/osascript"; AuthorizationItem items = {kAuthorizationRightExecute, strlen(tool), tool, 0}; AuthorizationRights rights = {sizeof(items)/sizeof(AuthorizationItem), &items}; AuthorizationFlags flags = kAuthorizationFlagDefaults | kAuthorizationFlagExtendRights | kAuthorizationFlagPreAuthorize | kAuthorizationFlagInteractionAllowed; status = AuthorizationCopyRights(authorizationRef, &rights, NULL, flags, NULL); Later I call: status = AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges(authorizationRef, tool, kAuthorizationFlagDefaults, (char *const *)args, NULL); On Snow Leopard this works fine, but on Leopard I get the following in syslog.log: Apr 19 15:30:09 hostname /usr/bin/osascript[39226]: OpenScripting.framework - 'gdut' event blocked in process with mixed credentials (issetugid=0 uid=501 euid=0 gid=20 egid=20) Apr 19 15:30:12: --- last message repeated 1 time --- ... • How can I load a Class contained in a website from a DLL referenced by that website???

    - by Morgeh
Ok so this is alittle bit obscure and I'm not sure its the best way of doing what I'm trying to do but here goes. Basically I have a Presentation Layer Dll in my web site which handles the Model View Presenter classes. The presentation layer also handles login for my website and then calls off to a web service. Currently whenever the presentation layer calls to a model it verifies the users details and if they are invalid it calls to a loginHandler which redirects the user to the login page. However I cannot dynamically load a new istance of the Login Page in my website from within my Presentation layer. I've tried to use reflection to dynamically load the class but Since the method call is in the presentation assembly it is only looking within that assembly while the page I want to load is in the website. heres the reflection code that loads the View: public ILoginView LoadView() { string viewName = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["LoginView"].ToString(); Type type = Type.GetType(viewName, true); object newInstance = Activator.CreateInstance(type); return newInstance as ILoginView; } Anyone got any suggestions on how to search within the website assembly? Ideal I don't want to tie this implementation into the website specifically as the presentation layer is also used in a WPF application.

  • How do I fix my "Stream closed" error in spring-ws?

    - by mcherm
I have working code using the spring-ws library to respond to soap requests. I moved this code to a different project (I'm merging projects) and now it is failing. I would like to figure out the reason for the failure. The symptom I get is this: when the HTTP request arrives, spring begins handling the call. Then I get the following exception: org.springframework.ws.soap.saaj.SaajSoapEnvelopeException: Could not access envelope: java.io.IOException: Stream closed; nested exception is javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.io.IOException: Stream closed at org.springframework.ws.soap.saaj.SaajSoapMessage.getEnvelope(SaajSoapMessage.java:109) <<more lines that don't matter>> Caused by: java.io.IOException: Stream closed at java.io.PushbackInputStream.ensureOpen(PushbackInputStream.java:57) at java.io.PushbackInputStream.read(PushbackInputStream.java:116) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLEntityManager$RewindableInputStream.read(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLEntityManager.setupCurrentEntity(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.impl.XMLVersionDetector.determineDocVersion(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.parsers.XML11Configuration.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.parsers.XML11Configuration.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.parsers.XMLParser.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.parsers.AbstractSAXParser.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserImpl$JAXPSAXParser.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.xerces.jaxp.SAXParserImpl.parse(Unknown Source) at org.apache.axis.encoding.DeserializationContext.parse(DeserializationContext.java:227) at org.apache.axis.SOAPPart.getAsSOAPEnvelope(SOAPPart.java:696) ... 30 more Examining it in a debugger, it appears that spring successfully handles HTTP headers, but then when it begins to process the contents of the SOAP message itself, it chokes when reading the very first character of the body. Some googling for the error message suggests that the problem is that a PushbackInputStream which is apparently used for reading from the socket is read twice or perhaps has close() called and then is read afterward. It is happening inside of spring-ws, not my code, and since it worked fine before I moved the code to a new project it must have something to do with versions of spring, or something it uses like axis or xerces. But I can't find any differences in versions of these! Has anyone encountered this error before? Or do you have any suggestions of approaches I could take in troubleshooting this?

  • NSString to NSURL objects

    - by user337844
    Hello, I have an array that I populated with my plist file, which looks something like this: <array> <string>http://www.apple.com</string> <string>http://www.google.com</string> <string>http://www.amazon.com</string> </array> So, I'm looking to convert these NSString objects to NSURL objects when I call them in my didSelectRowAtIndexPath method. Any ideas? This is what I have right now: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSInteger row = [indexPath row]; if (self.viewController == nil) { TemplateViewController *details = [[TemplateViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TemplateViewController" bundle:nil]; self.viewController = details; [details release]; } NSString *tempURLString = [tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]; NSURL *loadingUrl = [NSURL URLWithString:tempURLString]; [tieroneurlArray addObject:loadingUrl]; viewController.title = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", [tieroneArray objectAtIndex:row]]; [self.viewController setTableURL:[tieroneurlArray objectAtIndex:row]]; TemplateAppAppDelegate *delegate = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; [delegate.templateNavController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; } And this is how I load the array with the plist: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1Names" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; NSString *tableURL = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"tier1URL" ofType:@"plist"]; tieroneurlArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:tableURL]; }

Any idea of what I am doing wrong? <type 'exceptions.ImportError'>: cannot import name loads Traceback (most recent call last): File "/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.334374478538362709/hello.py", line 6, in <module> from whoosh import store File "/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.334374478538362709/whoosh/__init__.py", line 17, in <module> from whoosh.index import open_dir, create_in File "/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.334374478538362709/whoosh/index.py", line 31, in <module> from whoosh import fields, store File "/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.334374478538362709/whoosh/store.py", line 27, in <module> from whoosh import tables File "/base/data/home/apps/myapp/1.334374478538362709/whoosh/tables.py", line 43, in <module> from marshal import loads Here is the import I have in my Python file. # Whoosh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- sys.path.append(os.path.abspath(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), '..', 'utils'))) from whoosh.fields import Schema, STORED, ID, KEYWORD, TEXT from whoosh.index import getdatastoreindex from whoosh.qparser import QueryParser, MultifieldParser Thank you in advance for your help!

  • Mocking inter-method dependencies

    - by Zecrates
I've recently started using mock objects in my tests, but I'm still very inexperienced with them and unsure of how to use them in some cases. At the moment I'm struggling with how to mock inter-method dependencies (calling method A has an effect on the results of method B), and whether it should even be mocked (in the sense of using a mocking framework) at all? Take for example a Java Iterator? It is easy enough to mock the next() call to return the correct values, but how do I mock hasNext(), which depends on how many times next() has been called? Currently I'm using a List.Iterator as I could find no way to properly mock one. Does Martin Fowler's distinction between mocks and stubs come into play here? Should I rather write my own IteratorMock? Also consider the following example. The method to be tested calls mockObject.setX() and later on mockObject.getX(). Is there any way that I can create such a mock (without writing my own) which will allow the returned value of getX to depend on what was passed to setX?

  • Running Flask framework on App Engine: Could not find module app.cgi

    - by Linc
I'm running this Flask example app on App Engine: http://github.com/gigq/flasktodo You can see on the github page that app.cgi is in the main directory for this project. However, when I run this code I get an error complaining about a missing app.cgi: ERROR 2010-05-01 16:43:47,006 dev_appserver.py:2109] Encountered error loading module "app.cgi": <type 'exceptions.ImportError'>: Could not find module app.cgi Traceback (most recent call last): File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 2096, in LoadTargetModule module_code = import_hook.get_code(module_fullname) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1279, in Decorate return func(self, *args, **kwargs) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1956, in get_code full_path, search_path, submodule = self.GetModuleInfo(fullname) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1279, in Decorate return func(self, *args, **kwargs) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1908, in GetModuleInfo submodule, search_path = self.GetParentSearchPath(fullname) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1279, in Decorate return func(self, *args, **kwargs) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1887, in GetParentSearchPath parent_package = self.GetParentPackage(fullname) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1279, in Decorate return func(self, *args, **kwargs) File "/opt/google_appengine/google/appengine/tools/dev_appserver.py", line 1864, in GetParentPackage raise ImportError('Could not find module %s' % fullname) ImportError: Could not find module app.cgi How do I indicate to dev_appserver.py where to look to find it?

  • Converting a Linq expression tree that relies on SqlMethods.Like() for use with the Entity Framework

    - by JohnnyO
I recently switched from using Linq to Sql to the Entity Framework. One of the things that I've been really struggling with is getting a general purpose IQueryable extension method that was built for Linq to Sql to work with the Entity Framework. This extension method has a dependency on the Like() method of SqlMethods, which is Linq to Sql specific. What I really like about this extension method is that it allows me to dynamically construct a Sql Like statement on any object at runtime, by simply passing in a property name (as string) and a query clause (also as string). Such an extension method is very convenient for using grids like flexigrid or jqgrid. Here is the Linq to Sql version (taken from this tutorial: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/MVCFlexigrid.aspx): public static IQueryable<T> Like<T>(this IQueryable<T> source, string propertyName, string keyword) { var type = typeof(T); var property = type.GetProperty(propertyName); var parameter = Expression.Parameter(type, "p"); var propertyAccess = Expression.MakeMemberAccess(parameter, property); var constant = Expression.Constant("%" + keyword + "%"); var like = typeof(SqlMethods).GetMethod("Like", new Type[] { typeof(string), typeof(string) }); MethodCallExpression methodExp = Expression.Call(null, like, propertyAccess, constant); Expression<Func<T, bool>> lambda = Expression.Lambda<Func<T, bool>>(methodExp, parameter); return source.Where(lambda); } With this extension method, I can simply do the following: someList.Like("FirstName", "mike"); or anotherList.Like("ProductName", "widget"); Is there an equivalent way to do this with Entity Framework? Thanks in advance.

  • Jquery: Create hidden attributes? I need to reduce tag bulkyness.

    - by Dan
I'm sure we've all done this before: <a id="232" rel="link_to_user" name="user_details" class="list hoverable clickable selectable"> USER #232 </a> But then we say, oh my, I need more ways to store tracking info about this div! <a id="232-343-22" rel="link_to_user:fotomeshed" name="user_details" class="groupcolor-45 elements-698 list hoverable clickable selectable"> User: John Doe </a> And the sickness keeps growing. We just keep on packing it inside that poor little element and it's attributes. All so we can keep track of who it is. So with my limited knowledge of JS, someone please tell me how to do something like this: <a id="33">USER #33</a> $(#33).attr({title:'User Record','username':'john', 'group_color':'green', 'element_num':78}); So here we just added what I would call invisible attributes, because we just played God and made those attributes up on the fly like it was no problem. The cool part is that these would be kept in their own little object somewhere in variable land. NOT in the tag itself. Then later on, in a code nested far far away, be able to say, oh, i wonder what group_color John is... user_group_color = $(table).find(a['username':'john']).attr('group_color'); THEN BAM!!!! POW!!!! alert(user_group_color + " is a bitchin color!"); You get to know his group color... all without adding a bunch of bloated element tracking nonsense into our tags. So does this sort of thing exist? If not, how do I make it?

  • What does "active directory integration" mean in your .NET app?

    - by flipdoubt
Our marketing department comes back with "active directory integration" being a key customer request, but our company does not seem to have the attention span to (1) decide on what functional changes we want to make toward this end, (2) interview a broad range of customer to identify the most requested functional changes, and (3) still have this be the "hot potato" issue next week. To help me get beyond the broad topic of "active directory integration," what does it mean in your .NET app, both ASP.NET and WinForms? Here are some sample changes I have to consider: When creating and managing users in your app, are administrators presented with a list of all AD users or just a group of AD users? When creating new security groups within your app (we call them Departments, like "Human Resources"), should this create new AD groups? Do administrators assign users to security groups within your app or outside via AD? Does it matter? Is the user signed on to your app by virtue of being signed on to Windows? If not, do you track users with your own user table and some kind of foreign key into AD? What foreign key do you use to link app users to AD users? Do you have to prove your login process protects user passwords? What foreign key do you use to link app security groups to AD security groups? If you have a WinForms component to your app (we have both ASP.NET and WinForms), do you use the Membership Provider in your WinForms app? Currently, our Membership and Role management predates the framework's version, so we do not use the Membership Provider. Am I missing any other areas of functional changes? Followup question Do apps that support "active directory integration" have the ability to authenticate users against more than one domain? Not that one user would authenticate to more than one domain but that different users of the same system would authenticate against different domains.

  • iphone-AVAudio Player Crashes

    - by user2779450
I have an app that uses an avaudio player for two things. One of them is to play an explosion sound when a uiimageview collision is detected, and the other is to play a lazer sound when a button is pressed. I declared the audioplayer in the .h class, and I call it each time the button is clicked by doing this: NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:[[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"/lazer" ofType:@"mp3"]]; NSError *error; audioPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL:url error:&error]; if (error) { NSLog(@"Error in audioPlayer: %@", [error localizedDescription]); } else { [audioPlayer prepareToPlay]; } [audioPlayer play]; This works fine, but after many uses of the game, the audio will stop play when i hit the button, and when a collision is detected, the game crashes. Here is my crash log: 2013-09-18 18:09:19.618 BattleShip[506:907] 18:09:19.617 shm_open failed: "AppleAudioQueue.41.2619" (23) flags=0x2 errno=24 (lldb) Suggestions? Could there be something to do with repeatedly creating an audio player? Alternatives maybe?
