• Using PHP to place database rows into an array?

  I was just wondering how i would be able to code perform an SQL query and then place each row into a new array, for example, lets say a table looked like the following: $people= mysql_query("SELECT * FROM friends") Output: | ID | Name | Age | --1----tom----32 --2----dan----22 --3----pat----52 --4----nik----32 --5----dre----65 How could i create a multidimensional array that works in the following way, the first rows second column data could be accessed using $people[0][1] and fifth rows third column could be accessed using $people[4][2]. How would i go about constructing this type of array? Sorry if this is a strange question, its just that i am new to PHP+SQL and would like to know how to directly access data. Performance and speed is not a issue as i am just writing small test scripts to get to grips with the language.

  I'm using Python 2.x [not negotiable] to read XML documents [created by others] that allow the content of many elements to contain characters that are not valid XML characters by escaping them using the _xHHHH_ convention e.g. ASCII BEL aka U+0007 is represented by the 7-character sequence u"_x0007_". Neither the functionality that allows representation of any old character in the document nor the manner of escaping is negotiable. I'm parsing the documents using cElementTree or lxml [semi-negotiable].   Hello! I have the coordinates of my marker. Now I want to get the address of the marker. So I searched the web and found google maps reserve geocode.   Hi all, I'm planning to create a simple web based interface that stores administration input in json format (for use later by an applicaiton running on the same host) example json output is here: http://www.json.org/example.html The content would be user contacts (email, name, phone number, photo etc..) There would need to be a conf file per logged in user. and an administrator user for viewing all config files in his group. I'm wondering what technology is best to create this framework.   Yes, I know this subject has been covered before (here, here, here, here), but AFAIK, all solutions save one choke on a list like this: L = [[[1, 2, 3], [4, 5]], 6] where the desired output is [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] or perhaps even better, an iterator. The only solution I saw that works for an arbitrary nesting is from @Alabaster Codify here: def flatten(x): result = [] for el in x: if hasattr(el, "__iter__") and not isinstance(el, basestring): result.extend(flatten(el)) else: result.append(el) return result flatten(L) So to my question: is this the best model? • Open Source Log Aggregators?

  I have sixteen servers using Log4J logs, accessible by ssh. I want to see the output of all logs on my desktop machine. Apache Chainsaw can presumably do this, but the documentation isn't getting me there. "Put all the jars into your ~/.chainsaw directory", got that. "Chainsaw will automatically use the functionality in those JARs"? Nope. Chainsaw isn't picking up log4j-chainsaw-vfs.jar, by the look of it, so sftp is out. Any suggestions other than Chainsaw?

• UTF-8 xml file shows Gibberish

  I have a UTF-8 encoded xml file, which was exported from a Wordpress MySQL database. While the file is saved as UTF-8, and the encoding is UTF-8, I get gibberish instead of the Hebrew text that is supposed to be in there, which looks like this: ™×•×˜×•×ª How can I find the original encoding or charset and convert the text into proper Hebrew? PHP's mb_detect_encoding($str); returns UTF-8 Tried all sorts of php encoding functions, with different settings and input/output charsets, but they all just print different looking gibberish blocks, like: ÃâÃËÃâ¢Ãâ¢ÃËà and ?? ××©×ž× ...Any Ideas how to go about this?

• How to stop HTML text in textarea to be interpreted as code

  I have a textarea that users can edit. After the edit I save the text in a PHP variable $bio. When I want to display it I do this: <?php $bio = nl2br($bio); echo $bio; ?> But if a user for example types an HTML command like "strong" in their text my site will actually output the text as bold. Which is nothing I want. How can I print/echo the $bio on the screen just as text and not as HTML code? Thanks in advance!

• Problems with NSTask in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

  Has anyone else seen or heard of any issues with NSTask in 10.6? This code worked fine yesterday, and is not working today. NSTask *task = [converter task]; [task waitUntilExit]; NSLog(@"Task did complete"); The task does what it's supposed to do (I checked the output and it's fine), but the program will wait indefinitely at the waitUntilExit method. I have a few unit tests that use similar code, they all had passed previously, but as of yesterday, they are no longer working.

• How can I programmatically find the IP address/netmask/gateway configured for a specific network dev

  Hi I would like to write a piece of code which checks, for each network device (e.g. eth0, lo, master devices) some statistics and configuration data about that device. I could find the statistics data (and most of the configuration data) in /sys/class/net/..., however, I couldn't find any C/C++ API or any entry in procfs/sysfs listing the inet addr, netmask and gateway. Some alternatives I checked: parsing the output from ifconfig/route/some other utilities: I don't want to start a subprocess every time I need to do the inspection. parsing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/: will give me only the start-up configuration, and not the current state. Also, since this code is intended for a product in my workplace, where every external library is inspected thoroughly (meaning it will take me forever to add any external library) I prefer solutions which rely on Linux native API and not external libraries.   Hi, I am new to the world of Ruby and Rails. I have seen rails cast 190 and I just started playing with it. I used selector gadget to find out the CSS and XPath I have the following code.. require 'rubygems' require 'nokogiri' require 'open-uri' url = "http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rss" doc = Nokogiri::HTML(open(url)) doc.xpath('//a').each do |paragraph| puts paragraph.text end When I extracted text from a normal HTML page with css, I could get the extracted text on the console. But when I try to do the same either with CSS or XPath for the RSS Feed for the following URL mentioned in the code above, I dont get any output. How do you extract text from RSS feeds?? I also have another silly question. Is there a way to extract text from 2 different feeds and display it on the console something like url1 = "http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rss" url2 = "http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/rss" Looking forward for your help and suggestions Thank You Gautam

• PDF writeHTML for rendering tables

  I'm using TCPDF and following this example which uses writeHTML and heredoc syntax to write a table. http://www.tcpdf.org/examples/example_048.phps I'm trying to do though is switch the font using setFont before writing each column. This means I have to break the html and write it on different pieces (see pseudo code). But once I break the HTML like that, it doesn't work, I think because it becomes invalid. writeHTML <tr> writeHTML first column setFont() writeHTML second column writeHTML </tr> I want to use writeHTML because it helps me write the table without having to manually construct. But how can I make modifications before I output each cell?

• xerces serialization in Java 6

  In Java 6, the entire xerces XML parser/serializer implementation is now in the Java runtime (rt.jar). The packages have been moved under the com.sun.* namespace, which places them off-limits for explicit reference within client code. This is not a problem when using the parser, which is instantiated via javax API-defined factories. However, our code also uses xerces serialization (org.apache.xml.serialize.* ). AFAICT, there are no javax.xml API-defined factories for creating instances of Serializer and OutputFormat. This seems to imply that the only way to get one is to explicitly call the com.sun.org.apache.xml.serialize.* APIs. I've found the serialization classes in javax.xml.stream, but they don't seem to provide any output-formatting control like the xerces OutputFormat class. Question: Is there a way to access the xerces serialization functionality (which is in rt.jar) via a javax standard API, without including xerces.jar and also without explicitly instantiating com.sun.* classes? If not, is there an javax API-compliant way to achieve the same effect?

• Removing stopwords,but should return as a line

  My question may appear silly. But as I am a rookie in Python , help me out. I have to pass a line to a stopword removal function. It works fine. But my problem is return of the function is appending the words. I want it as like follows: line = " I am feeling good , but I cant talk" Let "I,but,cant" are stopwords. After passing to the function , my output should be as "am feeling good , talk". What I a getting now is [['am','feeling','good','talk']]. Help me.

• Uploadify uploadSettings with scripData does not work

  Hi everyone, I am sending a file to my Java Servlet via jQuery Uploadify, there are no problems while sending the actual file. But when I try to send some scriptData with file along, to process on Servlet it just does not send anything. Here is the JS code: $("button").click(function(){ $("#uploadify").uploadifySettings('scriptData', {'length':'0.2'}); $('#uploadify').uploadifyUpload(); }); $('#uploadify').uploadify({ 'uploader': 'assets/uploadify/uploadify.swf', 'script': 'upload', 'folder': '/uploads' }); And here is the Servlet code on the server side: out.println(res.getParameter("length")); Only output I get is null, while expecting "0.2". I just cannot get what's wrong and any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
