• using AudioQueues with AudioFileReadBytes

  Hey Im trying to work with Audio queues to play a very big mp3 file (arround 23 hours long). when audio queue asks for buffers though callback, im using AudioFileReadBytes() API to read the bytes from audio file and feed the queue. startQueue fails with the error : prime failed any inputs????? Also I succeeded playing file using AudioFileReadPackets API instead of AudioFileReadBytes(). But the problem with API is that when I seek (fast forward) by a long interval, say 9 hours (for example fast forward from 32 mins playtime to 9:32 mins) then AudioFileReadPackets() takes a long time (almost 2 mins) to read from new location. any comments would be greatly appreciated.

• UIButton Origin and Device Orientation

  Hey there, I might be crazy, but for some reason this problem is stumping me. I have a view controller that is set to auto rotate to orientation. Inside I've got two subviews. One is a uibutton. All I want is for my button's origin to stay locked to the bottom-left in portrait and bottom-right in landscape (so it basically stays in the same place). It should also stay in place for portrait upside down and landscape right. Any ideas? Thanks, Howie

• Python - Check if numbers in list are factors of a number

  Hey, I have a list of numbers (integers) (say, from 1 to 10). They're not necessarily consecutive, but they are in ascending order. I've prompted the user multiple times to enter a choice of the available numbers. When that number is entered, it is removed from the list along with any of its factors that may be there. I've prevented the user from selecting prime numbers. However, at some point in time, there may be non-prime numbers there, which have no factors remaining. I'm relatively new to Python, so I'm having trouble implementing: Checking if the number selected has no factors remaining (even if it is not prime). Checking if only prime numbers remain, or numbers without factors. I'm thinking of using for statements, but I'm not sure exactly how to implement them. Can anyone offer advice, or code? Thanks in advance... PS. In case anyone's wondering, I'm doing an implementation of the game of Taxman in Python.

• Polygon triangulation

  Hey, I am working on nesting of sheet metal parts and am implementing Minkowski Sums to find No Fit Polygons for nesting. The problem is I can give only convex sets as input to the code which calculates Minkowski sums for me. Hence I need to break a concave polygon, with holes into Convex sets. I am open to triangulation also, but I am looking for a working code on VC++ (6.0). I am slightly running short on time as my whole code is ready and just waiting for input in the form of convex sets. I would really appreciate if somebody with prior experience can help me in this. I have gone through other posts but did not find anything matching to this. I am a student of mechanical engineering and really dun have much idea about computer languages. • PECL install fails

  Hey! I have browsed every Google result, read all the forum posts about this error, but I cannot solve it. When using PECL install for anything, I always end up getting this error: checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs. Everything else succeeds up to that point them bam! I'm using CentOS 4.3, PEAR is the latest stable version, GCC is a stable and recent version. Everything is working as it should, but the C compiler always seems to error. I've tried to make tmp have the right privilages for the operation by temporarily enabling it using: mount -o remount,exec,suid /tmp But that doesn't work. I've literally tried everything that has been suggested by to no avail. Any ideas?

• Sending Facebook notifications

  Hey i have a little facebook iframe application written with rails and the facebooker plugin. I can loop through the users friends and see whether they also have this application. To do this I use a fql qeury, and my own html (no fbml). Now i want to create a button right beside every friend who doesn't have this app, that sends an invite massage. Is it possible to do this without this FBML/JS voodoo? I looked through the RESTful api but the only thing i could found was this deprecated method :( Can someone provide me an code example on how to do this? I really don't want to use this FBML stuff because it doesn't fit into the ui concept of the app, but if that the only way, please explain how to do this (every fbml tag I've tried is just invisible :( ) Thanks a lot.

• My C# and DLL Data Woes

  Hey guys, I'm a very beginner C# coder. So, if I get some of the terms incorrect, please be easy on me. I'm trying to see if it is possible to pull data from a DLL. I did some research and found that you can store application resources within a DLL. What I couldn't find, was the information to tell me how to do that. There is a MS article that explains how to access resources within a satellite DLL, but I honestly don't know if that is what I'm looking for. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165653.aspx I did try some of the codes involved, but there are some "FileNotFoundExceptions" going on. The rest of the DLL information is showing up: classes, objects, etc. I just added the DLL as a resource in my Visual Studio Project and added it with "using". • SO_LINGER and closing sockets(WINSOCK)

  hey. im writing a multithreaded winsock application and im having some issues with closing the sockets. first of all, is there a limit for a number of simultaneously open sockets? lets say like 32 sockets all in once. i establish a connection on one of the sockets, and passing information and it all goes right. problem is when i disconnect the socket and then reconnect to the same destination, i get a RST from the server after my SYN. i dont have the code for the server app so i cant debug it. when i used SO_LINGER and it sent a RST flag at the end of each session - it worked. but i dont want to end my connections this way. when not using SO_LINGER a FIN flag was sent but it seems the connection was not really closed. any help? thanks

  Hey everyone, Is there a relatively simpler (when compared with writing a parser) way to evaluate boolean expressions in Java? I do not want to use the JEP library. I have a String expression something like: (x 4 || x < 8 && p 6) [ I will replace the variables with values. Is there a way by which I can evaluate this expression? • Thread and two dimensional array in objective C?

  Hey, guys, I am just starting to wrap my head around objective C and I am doing a little project on Iphone. And I just encountered a weird problem. I had to deal with images in my program so I have a lot local variables declared like temp[width][height]. If I am not using NSThread to perform image processing, it works all fine. However, if I use NSThread, it'll keep giving me EXC_BAD_ACCESS on whenever I try to access a 2-D array declared like temp[widht][height]. So I have to allocate memory from heap in order to have a 2-D array. That'll solve the problem but I still don't get it. My first thought would be stack over flow, but it worked all fine with one thread. I just don't get it.

• Recognizing when to use the mod operator

  I have a quick question about the mod operator. I know what it does; it calculates the remainder of a division. My question is, how can I identify a situation where I would need to use the mod operator? I know I can use the mod operator to see whether a number is even or odd and prime or composite, but that's about it. I don't often think in terms of remainders. I'm sure the mod operator is useful and I would like to learn to take advantage of it. I just have problems identifying where the mod operator is applicable. In various programming situations, it is difficult for me to see a problem and realize "hey! the remainder of division would work here!" Any tips or strategies? Thanks

  Hey, I am currently developing a vbs script, which installs SQL server 2008 + SP1. After the install I want to change the default settings in the Ssms, such as "Prevent saving changes that require table recreation" and such on. I can't figure out, where Ssms hides its settings. Currently I am looking at 1) My Documents\SQL Server Management Studio\ 2) HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell\Profile But whenever I change a "setting" in the vssettings-file in 1), Ssms thinks it is first time it runs, and overwrite. How can I change the Ssms setting manual, without doing it from the Ssms itself?

• What's the best JSF implementation?

  Hey everyone, I currently have a medium size Java web application sitting on top of Spring MVC. As much as I like (no sarcasm) coding straight HTML, CSS and JS, it's not possible for me to develop as fast as I'd like. I'm looking at different RAD frameworks to speed up my development. I'm looking at JSF implementations and component libraries, Flex, GWT and a few others. As of now, Apache MyFaces (with ICEFaces) seems to be the front runner in my mind, but I'm curious to find out what you all think of that specific implementation and if the Sun implementation is any better? What's important to me is something that is stable, has an active community and that it doesn't look like there is another technology in the near future that is going to eclipse JSF (which would drive me to use a different RAD framework). • trying to decide between asp.net and jsp

  Hey Guys, I am wondering if anyone can shed some lights on the situation. I am about to start a project and trying to figure out what solution is best to go with asp.net or java jsp pages I have personally worked alot with .net and am really happy with the framework and Visual studio as IDE I find it easy to work with and there is a massive community support behind .net, i can get alot done quickly I have not every written anything use java jsp, there will be a learning curve here , so my experience is limited here. however after seeing jira i am very impressed with its capabilities, it has changed alot since the old days ( java 1.2 ) that i used to work with, and the fact that it runs under linux is a huge plus, so i am trying to decide is the learning curve, worth the price ? so given the situation above what would you recommended?   Hey Guys (and Ladies) I am looking at getting the image name from an image with a src loaded dynamically. Basically what I am doing is using the Google chat badge on a site to live chatting. And else where on the page, I have an image saying Live Chat:Online or Live Chat:Offline. And I want this to change depending on whether I am available to chat or not. Does this make sense? Anyway, the easiest way I figure to do this would be check the img url. If the img is offline.gif then obviously I am offline. An example of a dynamically loaded img would be something like <img src="http://www.google.com/talk/service/badge/Show?encrypted_acount_id_here" /> Once this image has loaded, it loads one of the following images "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/offlinef.gif" "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/idlef.gif" "http://www.google.com/talk/service/resources/onlinef.gif" Hopefully this make sense now. • iPhone provisioning profile suddenly stops working (not expired)

  Hey there! We have a couple of iPhones in our office. All of them have provisioning profiles installed on them. One of the phones (my bosses :S) all of a sudden won't allow me to install apps to it, complaining that a valid provisioning profile cannot be found. The profile isn't expired, and the problem is, I'm guessing, not with the XCode files, as I can install the same project to all the other phones. Does anyone know why this might have occurred or how I can fix this? Thanks! Tristan

So far I have a CSS class for normal and a CSS class for when you hover each item in the list. I want to have a new class for when each list item is selected. So for example in services, the user clicks on "family planning" and when they get to the family planning page....the family planning list item has a grey background. • Jquery: Preload an image on request with a callback function?

  Hey, I'm helping out a friend with a website he's developing and we are having trouble with preloading images on request. Basically, when the user clicks on a thumbnail of the product a <div> slides down that includes a scrolling carrousel of large images. In total there are about 20MB of images that could be loaded in (if you did them all) so preloading them on the page load would not be an option. Is there a way that we could call a javascript function that begins to preload about 4 images and then when it's done it has a callback function? Thanks! P.S. We are using jQuery on the page...

It works fine for insert but doesn't work for update, the database doesn't get called, so it's clearly not tracking the changes, as it's "detached". • How does TransactionScope guarantee data integrity across multiple databases?

  Hey guys, Can someone tell me the principle of how TransactionScope guarantees data integrity across multiple databases? I imagine it first sends the commands to the databases and then waits for the databases to respond before sending them a message to apply the command sent earlier. However when execution is stopped abruptly when sending those apply messages we could still end up with a database that has applied the command and one that has not. Can anyone shed some light on this? Edit: I guess what Im asking is can I rely on TransactionScope to guarantee data integrity when writing to multiple databases in case of a power outage or a sudden shutdown. • Python "Every Other Element" Idiom

  Hey guys, I feel like I spend a lot of time writing code in Python, but not enough time creating Pythonic code. Recently I ran into a funny little problem that I thought might have an easy, idiomatic solution. Paraphrasing the original, I needed to collect every sequential pair in a list. For example, given the list [1,2,3,4,5,6], I wanted to compute [(1,2),(3,4),(5,6)]. I came up with a quick solution at the time that looked like translated Java. Revisiting the question, the best I could do was l = [1,2,3,4,5,6] [(l[2*x],l[2*x+1]) for x in range(len(l)/2)] which has the side effect of tossing out the last number in the case that the length isn't even. Is there a more idiomatic approach that I'm missing, or is this the best I'm going to get?
